Tour Master Transition Series 4 Jacket

A proper touring jacket must serve multiple purposes as no two days or roads are alike. Transitioning from one climate to another demands different features and the Transition Series 4 delivers. From a cold early morning ride to a humid afternoon ride, opening up the Pipeline vents on the chest, underarms, and back maximize airflow. Should your ride go from warm to downright wet and cold, the jacket's Rainguard barrier, along with the waterproof zippers on the Pipeline vents, and the removable insulated liner will keep you dry and cozy. For further weather protection, the Transition 4 jacket also features Tour Master's patented Aqua-Barrier Under-The-Helmet Hood deploys from the collar. Worn over your head and under the helmet the Aqua-Barrier hood will prevent rain from seeping down the back of your neck.

Features:

  • Carbolex 600 denier outer shell material
  • 1680 denier Ballistic in the elbows
  • Pipeline venting with pinch vents provides excellent ventilation when open and waterproofing when closed
  • Aqua-Barrier under-the-helmet hood to help eliminate seepage in the collar area (US patents #8,156,573 and #7,779,485) and hides under collar
  • Action back rear panel for extra comfort
  • Phoslite 360º reflective piping and Tour Master’s signature reflective rear triangle help increase nighttime visibility
  • The microfiber lined collar and cuffs are soft yet durable
  • Adjustable, elastic and snap sleeve takeup straps at the forearm and bicep help secure elbow armor and material
  • Updated CE-Approved shoulder and elbow armor with an articulated triple-density back protector
  • Waterproof, breathable Rainguard® barrier
  • Removable thermal liner
  • Zippered chest map pocket, fleece-lined hand hand warmer pockets, internal pouch pockets and mobile media pocket, dual zippered fanny pack
  • Adjustable waist belts with TPR pulls help fine-tune the fit
  • Includes a jacket/pant zipper attachment
  • Waterproof front pockets
  • Collar anchor

Great Protection at Competitive Price!
I currently own a 2009 Ninja ZX6R. I’m 5’8”, 170 lbs with athletic, muscled build. I’m 47 years young and have been an avid rider of trails, tracks, and traffic since the age of eight. I have ridden in this gear for a week now during my daily work commute to offer a credible review and help qualify my impressions for the benefit of those reading. My daily ride totals 32 miles round trip with roughly a dozen traffic lights and open highway speeds (55 mph posted, and maybe 25 -30 mph added at times to support my thorough data collection…). My morning runs were made at 6:30 while still dark out, average temps 51F with low 49F. Afternoon departure was 5:30 with average temp 76F and high of 80F.
Tour Master Transition 4 Jacket; Hi-Viz/Black, Medium. I’m not sure that I could have squeezed my shoulders into a small, but the medium gives me good room with the shoulder design that will allow me to wear adequate under layers when the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia temps dip very soon. The cuffs, front closure, and collar are all very comfortable with soft lining and Velcro closures to keep everything properly and securely fastened. I wanted a solid, water resistant, functional four season jacket with removable armor, liner, and overall safety in mind at an affordable price. This jacket is perfect in every way for what I wanted and offers impressive quality at this price. I wore this jacket all week with the liner removed and only a collared golf shirt underneath. Even with a 31 degree swing in temperatures, I was never uncomfortably cold nor hot. I would offer, however, that were I riding in this jacket in temps 85F or higher without steady wind flow, it would likely be uncomfortably hot. I had already planned to buy another mesh jacket specifically for the mid-summer duties when considering my purchase. The visibility during pre-dawn commutes and late evening runs is excellent. In addition to the morning ride, I did wear the jacket every afternoon including the day that reached 80F. The vent system did a fantastic job flowing air while at highway speeds. The front, lateral shoulder vent system on this garment is very functional, maybe even too much so if ‘spirited’ riding is your thing. At speeds above 70mph (again, for test evaluation only), with both front and rear vents fully opened, the jacket flows so much air that the drag is noticeable while on my sport bike. Maybe on bikes with a taller wind screen, this would not be so apparent. That being the only point of mention, I have no negative feedback, and offer this product a highly favorable recommendation. I would absolutely buy this jacket again. Considering the price versus functionality and quality, I consider this a steal. Safe Riding!

FXRG killer
I loved the idea of not having to have multiple jackets, and think ahead of your trip, is it going to rain? Is it going to warm up? This eliminates having to make those choices because it is every single jacket that you need to own in one. The fit is spot on, perfectly snug in the shoulders and arms, with a little extra space in the chest and waist, enough to fit a sweater underneath, although I've been out in mid-40's and with the liner alone I've been totally comfortable. Without the liner the jacket is light and the vent scoops move a huge amount of air. The vents do go through the lining in the jacket so you do get air on skin. The only downside to the venting system is that the openings are entirely covered by a vest if you choose to wear one when you ride, although I don't see how they could have avoided that issue when designing them. I've only tested the waterproofing in light rain but it has performed very well. The features of this jacket really blow me away. Tour Master has really thought this jacket through, both on and off the bike, it is very comfortable, at 6'8" 200lbs with a 42" chest I thought the fit was going to be difficult, but the LGT is perfect, and the waist straps allow you to dial in the fit, I have a very skinny frame and I have not had any issues with wind coming up from my waist. The build quality is outstanding, the material feels very heavy duty, and I look forward to years of continued use!

Big guy big jacket comfortable jacket
I will update after more rides but so far:
Pros: Fits large guys I am 6' 325 and the 5xl fits a little loose.
Plenty of pockets including a key/small document pocket on the left forearm. Lots of insulation and very flexible armor. I will disagree with some of other reviewers though theirs is for the 3 and mine the 4 so may be why# it is a heavy jacket. I wanted a winter jacket and this fits the bill. I rode tonight in 53 degree at speeds up to 70 and no chill. I actually considered taking out the liner it was warm. Several of my coworkers have commented that it looks good.
cons: the neck roll is a little thick but I adjusted to it after about 15 miles so.. also the removable neck wrap takes some adjusting to but is removable so very minor. I chose to leave it in and after a couple of tries was able to make it comfortable.
Final thoughts #for now# A good buy and well worth it! I hope to upload a video or pics in near future.

Good jacket for a great price!
This jacket has a lot of bang for the buck. It looks good, however I had to size up from a large to an XL. I'm 6'2" with an athletic build and I found the arms and neck too narrow and the chest too small on the large. With Revzilla's easy exchange, I sized up to the XL which fit well, even with a heated liner underneath. Can't vouch yet for waterproof qualities but keeping my fingers crossed.

Another winner from Tourmaster
I'm replacing a 6 year old Transition 2 with this.
The T2 did everything I ever asked of it and kept me comfortable in the process. I expect the same from the T4.
First, I am 6' tall 190 lbs, 44" chest and the large fits me perfectly. I have thin arms but the jacket does not flap around in the breeze.
The armor is much more comfortable than the hard plastic stuff in the T2. I upgraded the back protector with a KLIM D3O piece that I cut down to fit in the pocket of my T2. It fits just as well in the T4's pocket.
I have been wearing the T4 for about a month now, for commuting and longish (weekend) trips, including a day in the rain. It has kept me warm in temps down into the 40s without the liner. (I'm a bit of a polar bear, so your mileage may vary).
It is MOSTLY water proof, but I had seepage through the shoulder vents after several hours in the rain. It's fine for short showers, but having experienced the same thing on the T2, I carry a rain jacket with me whenever I travel long distance. Which brings me to the small gripes I have.
Because I carry a rain jacket with a built in hood, I don't see the need for the hood in this jacket. It makes the collar a bit bulky and I may end up cutting it out. Also, there is one less pocket inside the jacket compared to the T2. It's a small thing, but I miss that pocket.
Over all, I'm very happy with my purchase, and for the money I don't think you can beat it.

Outstanding jacket
I bought a large in HV and love it. I'm 6'1 215 and the large fits great while on my Honda Goldwing or Triumph Tiger. Love the protection and visibility. I have had a Tourmaster Air Intake for 10 years with no problems so I went back to Tourmaster for this more advanced and waterproof jacket. Couldn't be more pleased with the product and the service from RevZilla.

Amazing first jacket
I am a new rider and I was looking for a multi-season jacket. The jacket is still cool when I wore it at 80 degrees and keeps me warm down to 35 so far with the liner and neck guard removed. With the liner and neck guard, I can see this jacket easily keeping me warm through East coast winter. vents are great.

It fits true to size. I am 170#, 5'9" athletic build and I wear a medium - it fits perfect.

The armor and fit of the jacket is comfortable in non-riding positions as well which is a big plus - it doesn't feel stiff like some of the leather ones I tried on.

Very good first jacket
6'4'' 175lbs, thin build, 40 chest. 34 waist. Medium tall is perfect fit for me, snug not tight, never balloons up when air enters. I needed something that didn't end at my belly button so touring fits are perfect length for the tall fella. Shoulders, arm length, fit around body is spot on. Hi Viz gets noticed from a long way away, I see cars ready to pull out hit the brakes when they see me. Armor sits on arms very well with the bicep and forearm adjusters - I like these snaps better than velcro. I've ridden all summer with all vents open and all the liners out. The jacket is still heavy to hold, nice thick poly, feels good quality made well. Not that heavy to wear. Has pretty good air flow and feels very protective. When it's above 85-90 this jacket is very hot going under 40 in traffic, even with every vent opened up. The forearms/lower sleeve have no venting so your forearms sweat. My guess is the 65-75 range is going to be perfect sweet spot for this jacket, then below that I'll add the liner back in. I'm still using this even on the hottest days (95+) and I'm not too bothered, but I am hot in there.
I replaced the back protector (throw it out immediately) with a Revit SeeSoft Level CE level 2. But the shape of the pocket is narrow at the top and flairs at the bottom, so I got a new pocket made for the RV5 size. This cost me money and was a hassle finding the mesh fabric. It isn't easy at all to create the new pocket so I believe you can cut the purchased protectors like the revit if you don't want to mess with a new pocket and more $'s.
With this jacket and a mesh jacket, I think it's all I will ever need for year round riding.

This jacket is warm. I know it says 3 season, but really it's the tail end of fall, winter and very early spring. It's awesome, great styling, feels sturdy and well designed, but if you live in a warm climate, you'll sweat. For folks in the Northern latitudes, it's fantastic. I honestly love the jacket, but I can't wear it above 55 degrees. I forgot to mention, it is also really good at visibility (high visibility version). People behind me can really see it, even at night.

I had a Transition 2 and it was a great jacket. It kept me dry in the biggest down pours and when I went down recently it did its job. The Transition 4 basically took all of my minor nit picks and fixed them.

Apparently, a great 3 season jacket. I'm a little disappointed there was no grey/gun metal in LG Tall, but them's the breaks

Had all the features I wanted in a jacket like a hood and hand warmer pockets and was reasonably priced
Craig C on Aug 22, 2016
Absolutely one the best 3+season jackets around, and a great value. If you're looking for a 3/4-length jacket to use from 25 to 90 degrees (F) look at this one. With the removable liner, multiple vents, more pockets to lose stuff in (always hunting thru them), integrated helmet-friendly hoodie and adjustable waist and arms this is the best...

Price and prior ownership of Tourmasrter Jacket but the back armor was poor quality and the only option for upgrading it had to go in upside down.

Awesome features for the price. More comfortable than my Sand 2 adventure jacket.
Edwin A on Jun 30, 2016
Owned a Transition 2, loved it, until a friend lit themselves on fire and I tackled/bear hugged them to put them out, melting the jacket enough that it wasn't waterproof anymore. Wore it from -17F to 60F, and it was 100% comfortable anywhere in the top end of that range. Wanted a new one to replace the old, and it's time for another lap on this thing.

I was looking for a reasonably priced multi-weather, waterproof jacket. I also wanted high visibility, especially for riding in the dusk, dark and or rain. I read a lot of reviews on jackets and in this price range the tour master transition four had very good reviews. Once we have used the jackets I will be glad to provide a review.

Versatility and warm weather comfort

Had features I was looking for like removable liner, zip to pants, decent venting, and comfortable with reasonable armor. I don't trust any drivers, so the hi-viz was a must.

I did pretty extensive research prior to selecting this jacket. My first actual 'riding jacket' though over half a million miles on a bike. I've worn it for a quick 150 mile ride so far in temps ranging from 75 - 45 degrees and found it met my expectations, no rain but warm when cool riding and lots of 'air' in warmer temperatures. Got a big ride coming, so we'll see. Large fit perfectly, 6' 190 lbs and been told I look good in it, always a plus!

I was looking for a good jacket to keep me warm while riding in cold weather. The positive reviews and Tour Master reputation for quality made this an easy decision. Can't wait to get the jacket and try it out!

I tried on a lot of different jackets of all prices and the Transition 4 fit me the best. The sleeves aren't too long!!

Just returned a jacket I recently purchased from you. It was to short. This jacket appears a little longer and will cover my backside better. What sold me on this jacket was the young man doing the online presentation. He is very good and really sold me. Hang on to him.

Had a Tour Master Transition 2 jacket and better than anything other jacket I tried for under $1000.

Over the past eight years or so, I've had great success with my Tour Master Transition 2 jacket and felt it was time for an up-grade...the new Tour Master Transition 4 was an obvious choice!

I was looking for a versatile jacket that I can make last late into the colder Vermont fall and spring. Plus it came in a 5XL and I have a 54inch chest, I'm hoping this will do the trick.
Zachary W on Sep 22, 2015
I wanted a 4 season water resistant jacket for a reasonable price that was also hi-vis.
MICHAEL S on Sep 17, 2015
Seems to be a reasonably priced, good looking, functional jacket to wear through the winter for my commuting.
Brian D on Oct 28, 2016
This is my jacket that I commute with. Very versatile all through the year. Very warm for the winter as well. It has a removable liner and many pockets to put your belongings in. I would recommend this jacket to anyone.

what is the main difference between this and the transition 3?
A shopper on Sep 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: -Collar houses a rain hood
-Quick on/off neck gaiter
-Redesigned wrist closures
-Waist pockets now have lined handwarmer pockets behind them
-Back vents are different (one long horizontal vent on the 3 where the 4 has two vertical vents)
-Updated shoulder and elbow armor
-Styling and cosmetic differences

I picked up a Transition 3 on closeout but may break down and buy this jacket soon. That rain hood looks like a great idea.
One of the first things the "expert" in the video says to do is to replace the back armor. With what? The shape is unique and you only offer the exact same kind of armor that comes with it.

BEST ANSWER: I called. The guy recommended Klim D3O Viper T5 Pro Back Protector (CE2). It can be cut to fit.
How does the material in this jacket (600D Carbolex, 1680 Ballistic) compare with Olympia's 500D Cordura and Ballistic Mesh?
A S on Sep 18, 2015
Sorry if this double posts. How low does this jacket go? Also how does it compare to the Revit outback in both fit and protection? I am looking for a jacket that comes down past my waist and will fit me good (5xl+) Thank you
A shopper on Sep 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Thank you. I purchased it and had my first ride (to work) tonight. It is definitely a beefy jacket and comes down great. For those like me 53.5 chest the 5xl fits good maybe a little loose with all liners in.
will this jacket connect with tour master caliber pants?
neil b on Oct 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi Dan. This should in fact fit the Tourmaster Caliber Pants via the 8" pant/jacket rear zipper. Late reply however for others. Great jacket!
this jacket connect to the tour master caliber pants?
A shopper on Oct 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Not sure if it will or not, didn,t get the pants, just got the jacket, but am very pleased with the jacket! Quality is excellent and very warm!
Hi I am a big guy and ride a Vstar. I'm trying to decide between this and a Revi't Outback. My main concern is will it come down low on me? I currently wear an Olympia airglide 4 and it stops at my navel. Also concerned which one will provide better protection. Thank you.
A shopper on Sep 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: That was one of mine concerns too, so far I have not had a problem with it riding up on me. I have not felt like I'm mooning the world or felt the cold air down my pants. It does a pretty good just to stay in place. One concern for me is I wear a full face and the hood or rain liner feels like a neck roll in football. If I lift my head up, I can feel it back there. I've only rode twice wit the jacket and so far so good! Hope this helps.
