Shoei CW-1 Spectra Faceshield

The new Shoei Spectra CW-1 Face Shields fits Shoei QwestShoei RF1100 and Shoei X-12 Helmets

Features:

  • Q.R.S.A. (Quick-Release Self-Adjusting) base plate allows for tool-less shield removal and installation. The spring-loaded base plate (U.S. patent pending 11/799935) pullsthe shield back to contact the window beading evenly and ensures a proper seal
  • The CW-1, three-dimensionally curved shield is both wider and taller than the CX-1V it replaces
  • Scratch-resistant coating
  • 99.9% protection from harmful UV A and B rays
  • A pre-set lever can easily lock the shield in place to prevent the shield from opening unexpectedly, as well as prop the shield open to increase airflow

Note: Due to manufacturer restrictions, Shoei products can only be shipped to addresses within the United States

Good looks at a price This is the third Spectra Shield I've bought in two years. The first one lasted an entire season. The second, about two weeks before getting a nice scratch across the center--don't ask me how, it just sort of magically appeared. I guess what's important is why I bought yet one more of these ridiculously expensive shields. First, well they look so amazingly cool on my helmet. Second although my version looks like a blue mirror on the outside, on the inside everything is filtered to a slightly dimmed yellow, which is absolutely fantastic when it's bright outside. Last, even at night, the reduction in brightness isn't so great that you can't ride with the visor down, as with some tinted visors. Still, it is really easy to scratch the reflective tinted coating, so either be very careful with it or know what the next winning lottery number will be. May 20, 2013
Perfect visor Loving this visor, strikes a good balance between privacy and visibility. Not too dark, not too light. Great for day and dawn/dusk riding. Becomes a little too impairing at night. Revzilla experience was excellent as always. May 20, 2013
Looks great on any helmet I got this when I got my Marquez helmet because I already had the dark shield with my flat black x12. It's not as dark on the inside and my other one and I like that because if your going in a long ride during the day and you lose track of time it's not as hard to see and most of all it looks very cool May 13, 2013
A little pricey, but its Shoei quality First, Revzilla did their normal perfect job with my order.. Overall fit and finish was your typical good quality I have come to expect from Shoei.. As another rider already posted I wouldn't mind it to be a little more mirrored but I can live with the way it came..Tear off posts wouldn't be a bad option to add if your lazy like me and don't want to clean visors... If you can live with the price its a nice addition, I figure I already dropped the coin for a X-Twelve so why stop now ?!? April 19, 2013
Great product. Overpriced for what it is. Almost $90 for a visor... really? Might be justified if it were made out of scratch resistant plexiglass... Regardless of the price, this product is as described. Has a nice reflective finish with a light smoke tint. Usable during night rides, but caution is advised, as it does block out a small amount of light. I suppose I wouldn't be griping about the price as much, but when I received the visor, it had a small "chip" near the tab you use to raise/close the visor. Also, the reflective coating is extremely easy to scratch. Even the smallest amount of pressure to remove bugs causes the coating to scratch. I had scuff marks in one area while trying to remove bug residue.(I was using a microfiber eyeglass cleaner square) Apparently, the ease of being scratched is a common issue that's just accepted as a requirement to own mirror finish visors. Hopefully, this visor lasts longer than I suspect it will. April 15, 2013
Good vision, looks awesome I have both the blue and the 'chrome' mirrored shields. The blue one seems to be a little more mirrored, but also seems to pick up bug splatters much more than the silver shield. Neither have scratched enough for me to see from behind the shield, but I can see where the mirrored finish might scratch off along the front, just from normal wear and tear. I would still recommend it, though, because it offers a high degree of vision in both the sunlight and on cloudy days. On top of that, it looks really cool. April 15, 2013
Gold Super fast shipping! I love my cw1 gold, crisp and clean very pleased with my purchase. Only wish it was a little cheaper . Would recommend to anyone. March 18, 2013
Not what I had hoped The good: It does serve the purpose it was made for The bad: The shield is not quite as "mirrored" as I would like... I think there is a little too much luminosity. The price is ridiculous, no reason it should be this expensive. If I had it do over, I would not have bought it. March 15, 2013

Answer:
The only helmets that the CW-1 will fit is the X-12 and the RF-1100 helmet. Those lids are not modular type helmets. They are geared to track riders and posers. As a matter of fact, I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would have a modular helmet. Think about it... You're riding around with the face guard down (the safest position). All of a sudden you think to yourself that... "Hey, maybe this is too safe... After all, look at those Harley guys with their (not DOT approved) helmets... And what about the guys in Utah, they don't even have a helmet law!" So you throw caution to the wind and you raise your face guard on the modular lid. Now if you have to come off the bike your chin can enjoy the asphalt.

By the way, I'm sure that Shoei sells a tinted version for your helmet, just call the guys at Revzilla... They are good with advise and you never get the feeling that they are rushing you off of the phone.

Chrome mirror vs dark smoke, which is darker/better sun protection during the day and which is better during low light/early evening conditions.

thanks.

Answer:
I typically find the dark smoke option to be the darkest for any shield. The Chrome Mirror or Silver color options tend to sit in-between light smoke and dark smoke as far as visibility goes. For cloudy or low light conditions, I would consider an amber or yellow shield as it improves contrast for best visibility in shadows.

Answer:
I've been a big fan of chrome for a long time. Gets a bit toasty in Sydney during summer and I used to have dark smoke on the old BMW hats I had but went to chrome on the Shoei hats. I could not put it down to the visor but it felt better inside, both makes were white (yep, I'm boring) but the Shoei felt better...might be down to the venting but the front of my face felt better in direct sun. I have a chrome visor on my new Qwest and it stays on day or night. However, this is mostly city or suburban riding so street lighting is always on. No doubt if I was out somewhere rural I would be swapping it for a clear visor at night, the light reduction is not severe but I woud prefer the full picture out in the sticks.

i have dark tint (smoke) on my cx-1 shield... and often wear dark oakley (ducati of course) glasses underneath... the dark tints good, it takes the edge off, but it not so dark you need to worry about it on a cloudy day... night time out of the city sucks but cloudy days are fine.

Answer:
The dark smoke is really dark and designed for bright, sunny, daytime riding. If you want a shield that will work best on cloudy days and at dusk, I would not go with a dark smoke. Anytime we choose to use a colored or darkened/tinted shield, it's important that we have a pair of good polycarbonate eyeglasses on if we find ourselves in a situation where we need to ride with the shield partially or wholly in the up position due to low light.
