Love the speaker size--Don't expect bass--Good value.
The larger speaker size allows you to hear more clearly than the smaller speaker. If you are looking for bass this speaker is not going to do it.

Do the job
I had them in an icon airframe and they were ok until the right speaker went out. Saw these and thought I was upgrading to bigger ones, bought them and they are the same size as the ones from the smh5 kit. Installed them on my new Bell star carbon and they work much better. Even with the thin carbon helmet they are loud enough at highway speed with the Akrpopovick exhaust. If they are turned up all the way at low speed or in neutral they hurt your ears with distortion.

Large?
I ordered some of these Large speakers for my SMH5.

Since the emphasis was on Large, I ordered some of these as a replacement for my SMH5 which I thought would have Small speakers but to my surprise, These Large speakers are the same size as the speakers my SMH5 came with.

So I don't know if Sena originally packaged the SMH5 with small speakers and upgraded all the new SMH5 with Large speakers or my SMH5 came with Large speakers as a mistake.

I'm just going to keep them since the cost of shipping them back would be approximately 33% of the cost of the speakers. I hope I get to use these sometime down the road.

The speakers in the SMH 5 are known to distort. This upgrade gave me the SMH 10 quality sound on the SMH 5

The SMH5 stock speakers need to be turned to max volume to get sound to my ears when wearing filtered earplugs.

Does the locking style connector still fit the old SMH5 unit? I was looking for the smh5-a0305, but that is discontinued. Can I use the smh5-a0306 instead?
A shopper on Jul 14, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The locking connector doesn't actually lock to anything, but fits in the old SMH5 just fine (non FM version confirmed).
Which is better? SMH5-A0306 or A0305? In terms of audio output.
Kelvin C on Sep 4, 2013
BEST ANSWER: They are the same speaker. A0305 is for older models where the plug-harness does not "lock" into the base unit.
These are the same speaker from the SMH-10 unit, but with an SMH-5 plug.
Note that:
The SMH-5 comes with a 32mm speaker. The SMH-10 comes with the "upgraded" 40mm speaker.
The SMH-5-FM also comes with the "upgraded" 40mm speaker.
