Sena SMH10-11 Universal Bluetooth Headset 4.8 5 52 52
Great Device This is my second SMH10. The sound quality is great with this thing. Easily links up with the smart phone to listen to music or take calls when riding. May 14, 2013
Sound quality and control is spot on This has sound clarity which is beyond belief; however, volume for music isn't perfect with road noise/loud pipes. Phone calls could not be better, no issue hearing or listening on either end of the call. Phone calls have been at all speeds from stop and go traffic to open highway at 75 mph. Large control knob make it easy to operate and answer calls. Pairing with Bluetooth to IPhone 5 was simple. Have not utilized this product with other riders yet. I use this product with a Shoie NeoTec and a Harley Road Glide. Overall excellent product. May 13, 2013
Sena SMH10-11 make sense for motorcycling sound system Picked up this unit with all the grate reviews it already has. Still tinkering with it and still need to get it on the highway but I'm sure this unit will keep impressing me as I learn more about it. Installation took me 20min(?) and it was easy. I followed the book guides but you could do it without. Pairing to my phone (iPhone 4s) was so simple. I put on some music then loaded GPS and it all worked. The music dimmed then the GPS instruction were announced and the music commenced. May 12, 2013
Awesome Bluetooth Purchased my Sena SMH10-11 from Revzilla last week when I took it out of the box it was a matter of 5 minutes to install the hardware onto my helmet and about 2 minutes to sync the device with my iPhone 4. Then I was off riding and testing out the sound quality and ease of use. I use a a GPS APP called CoPilot Live and it works great along with a number of other motorcycle specific APPS. The sound quality is 9/10 iTunes sound great at all rising speeds. I did add the optional earphone pads to bring the speakers closer to my ears in the helmet. I do get a small amount of wind noise in my helmet as it is a modular, I am sure that when I get the second speaker and mic kit to install in my full face helmet this noise will be reduced. Pro: Great sound on all APPS Ease to install Size of unit easy to work with gloves on Long battery power life Cons: The sound could use a bit more bass Awesome product! Cheers! Michael May 6, 2013
Very practical and easy to use. Just two buttons to sequence and operate which is quiet easy to do even with gloves on. Nice crisp sound and fast pairing with another unit or with your blue tooth devices. May 6, 2013
It's True... thing works right. Let me start off this review by saying this is my second Bluetooth helmet system. Since the purchase of my new bike I have been looking for a Bluetooth system that will be easy to use and connects me to my mobile devices and allows me to chat with friends. I purchased a new helmet from a local store and was talked into buying a UClear HCB100. Just after two rides I knew I needed something better. Watching Anthony's YouTube review as well as others, I took the plunge when I also purchase a new HJC Symax III from Revzilla. I have not installed a helmet comm set before, the UClear unit was installed by the vendor so I was a bit concern I would screw it up with the Sena. I received the helmet and SMH10 in less than two days after ordering it. I watched the install video Revzilla has and also reviewed the Symax III product video. Knowing I can taken down the helmet's interior made the install so easy. After clapping down the main unit onto the helmet side, which took less than three minutes, installing the speakers was easy. Sena sends you everything you need for any helmet you may have. It also includes what I call speaker pads which elevates the speaker further off the side of the helmet ear well, I also use them. Once I had the speakers mounted routing the wires was easy. Replaced the Cheek pads, and guess what it looks like a pro job. Read the manual and got the URL for Sena and registered the unit. Once registered I was able to update the firmware. Sena has download device manager application that helps ID the device and manage the firmware. Once updated and charged I paired the unit to my Android phone in less than a minute. Sound quality is very good, heck excellent compared to the HBC. Looking forward to hooking up with my riding friend who also bought one from Revzilla as well. BLUF: Easy install, Easy firmware update, Easy use, Sounds great GET ONE. May 5, 2013
awsome This is great. I'm sure you've read the reviews so don't need the product info. But I have to say the sound quality out of the speakers blew me away. They sound terrific whether your on the phone/intercom or listening to music. The mics are also top notch and do a great job even at high speed. Once you get one of these you'll wonder why you hadn't already had one. I can't recommend these enough. May 2, 2013
Sena SMH10-11 - Excellent, Easy, Worth it. I reviewed everything I could find about ways to connect to my phone, gps, and other riders. Based on the reviews, and the Revzilla video I picked the Sena SMH10-11 for my new Schuberth C3 Pro helmet. I tried a bunch of helmets to find the most comfortable, most quiet one - then wanted a good, clear bluetooth connection. The Sena unit was easily to pair and operate - I tried it before putting it on the helmet. I used the adhesive bracket as Schuberth has a sunshield control in the way of the clamp version. The separate boom mic was excellent as I could adjust it to perfectly fit - no problem. Sound is great - far better than I expected. I wear ear plugs for any faster rides, and could still hear the music well. The jog dial is pretty simple, and easy with both winter and summer gloves. The unit feels very solid - but time will tell on durability. Thanks to RevZilla for steering me away from the standard SMH10 - as the attached boom mic would not have worked nearly as well given where the unit has to be attached on this helmet. Oh, and no noticeable wind noise due to the exterior object on my helmet at 80mph. The Schuberth bluetooth system didn't have stellar reviews, and is dedicated to this helmet - while the Sena can be moved to others as desired. John - '01 GS April 29, 2013

Answer:
No. Bluetooth system intercom capabilities are limited to the same brand. If your friends have N-com, you'll need an N-com in order to communicate by intercom. Nonetheless, you could always use the Bluetooth to call them by phone.

Answer:
As far as we know the microphones are going to work exactly the same if they are located in the same position. The smaller wired mic could potentially be mounted closer to the inner materials of the helmet, so theoretically it could cause less wind noise. Otherwise they are the same mic though and we would say that in most cases the end result would be the same.

Answer:
The Sena SMH10-11 can be installed on almost any modular helmet using the sticky mount (or the clamp mount in some cases). Thanks to the partial boom microphone with the wire on the back half, the 10-11 kit can be moved around on the shell to make sure that it doesn't block anything functional on the helmet. Once the clamp is either installed or clamped to the shell, simply run the partial boom mic into the helmet and wedge the circular shaped piece behind a cheekpad (some people also Velcro this in place). This set up allows the user to still have the flexibility of the boom to adjust the microphone, and the clamp can be positioned to make sure ti doesn't interfere with the chin bar hinge or internal sun visor actuator.

Answer:
This particular iteration of the SMH10 was developed for use with full face or 3/4 helmets, however Sena does make the SMH10H, which was designed specifically for use with half helmets. One thing to note is that when the muzzle is engaged the boom will be difficult to use.

I have an HJC IS-16 (full-face). There are little 'curtain's in the ear pockets and behind them maybe 1/4 inch of air before I get to the hard foam shell. Do the speakers fit this style helmet or do I need to get a BT specific helmet?

Answer:
Those pockets were not designed to hold speakers, rather to leave room for larger ear sizes. If you have smaller ears, you might be able to fit a set of small speakers in the pockets. However, your best bet would be to go with the Bluetooth ready HJC IS-MAX BT Multi Helmet to avoid any issues.

Answer:
The Sena SMH10 does have the ability to be updated using certain versions of the MAC operating systems. Currently, Sena offers a software manager on their website for Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 and Lion 10.7.

On a related note, the Sena SMH10-11 is the same exact device as the regular Sena SMH-10. The difference between the two kits is that the "universal headset" comes with the "Sena SMH-10 Helmet Clamp Kit - Attachable Boom and Wired Microphone" instead of the "Sena SMH-10 Helmet Clamp Kit - Boom Microphone" that is included in the regular SMH-10 (see linked products below).

The "Sena SMH-10 Helmet Clamp Kit - Attachable Boom and Wired Microphone" that comes with the SMH10-11 allows the user to mount the clamp further back on the helmet shell. This is ideal for a helmet like the Schuberth C3 for example, which has the slider for the internal sun-visor located on the left side of the helmet where the regular "Sena SMH-10 Helmet Clamp Kit - Boom Microphone" would be mounted normally.

Answer:
Yes. If your version has a micro usb connection. Sena has not created an application for 10.8 (mountain lion), but 10.7 does work in it's place. It is a bit cumbersome. You will likely have to change security settings of your mac to allow the install as Sena is not a Mac or affiliate developer (I had to do this, then reverted back to a safer setting). Sena provides a video on how to update or you can find it on youtube. Current firmware available as of 10-7 is 4.1.1 and I purchased mine with 4.0. I don't see a reason to upgrade until technology changes or Sena publishes a need to do so. I did not gain anything other than access to change default settings for various things. I chose to keep the defaults, imagine most would do the same.

Answer:
I'm pretty sure the first answerer, Gnads, is incorrect on his point A.

Based on other reviews found online, and this VERY helpful video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNe9DEHcpXY the only difference between the SMH10 and the SMH10-11 is the 10-11 comes with the A302 base which allows you to use the wired (stick-on) microphone, and allows the boom mic to be placed remotely so that the clip can be located anywhere on the helmet you need (useful for modulars). The SMH10 includes the A301 base which has a fixed boom mic.

This unit DOES NOT allow for earbud use (see RevZilla review by IRideaWee) To use earbuds (or any 3.5mm headphone) you need to purchase the A303 base for fixed-boom-only, or the A304 base which also supports the wired and remote boom microphones.

The "brain" unit is sold on its own under the model SMH10-M01 and is compatible with all the A30X bases (but is not sold by RevZilla, as far as I can tell)

In summary:
A301 / SMH10 : Fixed boom, hardwired speakers
A302 / SMH10-11 : Wired/Remote Boom, hardwired speakers
A303 : Fixed boom, 3.5mm speaker connection
A304 : Wired/Remote Boom, 3.5mm speaker connection

Answer:
the 11 is universal. The mike is not attached to the main unit. You have the option for a small wire and mike-great for full faced helmets, or use the velcro boom. I have used both configurations depending on the helmet used. Additional kits, about $30 are available to duplicate the mikes on other helmets or revert back to a fixed mike. Sena makes it easy to adjust to your needs. I prefer the universal approach. Either way, sound is great and set up is easy.

Answer:
It's a universal mic, so you can attach a boom mic or stick on a tiny wired mic. Whatever you prefer.
