RAM Mounts Universal X-Grip IV Cell Phone Holder
After 18 months, still hasn't dropped my phone..
It's a crazy thing to learn to trust a RAM mount because it leaves your device so exposed, but dang!, it just works perfect.
Mounted via the steering stem on my '14 Street Triple, lots of Seattle traffic / rain and the results are that it's a reliable and fast way to mount a device. Works especially well with my Sena helmet communicator so I can answer the phone (distracting) and listen to music (awesome).
Buy it. Don't fear.

Best Phone Mount I've used so far
Can't say enough great things about this phone mount because it has exceeded my expectations. The only thing I can say negative about it is that you kinda have to figure out what it is that you need (accessory wise) because there are SO many and you can easily pick the wrong ones because the descriptions of them are somewhat ambiguous. Other than that, this mount is rock solid and I love it.

Not Secure, Depresses Buttons
Hit a bump on the interstate and phone was flipped (luckily) into my lap. The tether may solve that problem.
The X-pads depress volume and sleep mode buttons if not positioned just so.
Phone is not held upright. Can pivot around 20 degrees or so when phone is mounted.

This isn't my first RAM X-grip, but the last one I had was the normal size one that usually comes with the kits. It fit my Motorola Droid, but I upgraded to a Samsung Note 3 and it just BARELY fit, so an upgrade was due.
This one fits the Note 3 beautifully.
My last RAM mount never failed me, and so far this one hasn't failed me.
Based on reviews, I mimicked some other users and mounted the phone in the holder, held it in my hand, and shook it violently as hard as I could, no failure.
I don't see where other people are having failures, unless it is based in user error.
But even so, it seems the current ones are packaged with a rubber-band like bungee device. You install it over the ball before you put the mount on the RAM arm, and when you place your phone into the holder you can stretch the device over the corners and it presses the phone into the holder.
I guess you could say it's like a belt and suspenders.
It's a little tight going around my Note 3, but I just grab opposing corners rather than all four and it functions as intended. If you distrust the regular grip, this is a great way to really fasten it down for the interstate.

Holds like a champ!
This thing is awesome. Mount and dismount your phone in seconds. Holds my phone in place even when coming down hard from a wheelie which I was really happy about! I purchased the handle bar mount that using the existing m8 bolt to mount your bars. Perfect placement and it's not going anywhere. Just wish I could keep the glare off my phone!

Ordered this along with the mounting kit and 2 inch arm. I was very happy to find that Ram Mounts made a grip big enough to house a Galaxy note 4 with an OtterBox. This grip holds strong though. I placed my phone in it and started trying to thrown the phone out of the grip. After about 8 times, one of which I wound up and threw like I was an MLB pitcher that the phone finally came free of the grip. If I needed another one then I would definitely purchase again.

I am not sure what some of the people who commented that their phones have flown out are doing wrong, but it's not the device. I have a Nexus 6 and it fits perfect! I've had my RAM for 2000 miles going over bumps at 85 mph at times and I have never had a scare. Feet are secure with no extra glue or rubber bands, etc. I do pay close attention to how it's seated in the cradle before I take off. I make sure it's evenly gripped by all 4 feet and pull at it to make sure it is secure. I was concerned with the negative posts when I was thinking about purchasing, but I am glad I didn't listen. I will be getting an adapter for the car as well, this is the best phone cradle that I've had so far. Very happy with this purchase.
