RAM Mounts Universal X-Grip IV Cell Phone Holder
It works, but GLUE the rubber feet down!!
I originally ordered this for my phone and radar, had to return it because it blocked two crucial areas on my radar, so I found the magnet plate mount by ram and ordered the smaller version of this mount as well for my phone. The MOST important thing you need to do with this mount is GLUE the rubber feet down before you even ride. They will vibrate lose and your device will go bye bye. I have a velcro strap for extra security around my detector as well.

such a simple idea and works perfectly, hard to believe that it can hold a phone so securely. I am using with a Galaxy S4 with an Otterbox, and it fits and holds great. Simple solution at the right price. As usual, great Revzilla service, quick shipping, quality packaging, outstanding communication. Thanks

Large cell phone will fall out
I bought this holder for a long trip where I could use my Samsung Note 2 as a GPS. The note is in an Otter Box case. It worked well at low speed on perfect roads.
As reported in some one else's review, my cell phone fell out of the holder while on a cement highway (think thump, thump, thump as you go over the seams) going through Birmingham Alabama at around 65 mph. Luckily I noticed it beginning to inch its way forward out of the holder and caught it after it hit the handle bar.
The cell phone stayed in my pocket the rest of the trip. I would not recommend this holder for large cell phones in otter box case for more than riding on smooth pavement at lower speeds.

Holds my very large phablet phone, a Nokia Lumia 1520, perfectly, as well as a BMW (Garmin) Navigator V GPS. Any device this thing can't hold shouldn't be on a motorcycle anyways! The rubber "fingers" provide very good grip, even at speed. No worries of anything falling out, ever. Pair this with a RAM mount of your choice and you're good to go!

This product is exactly what I have been looking for.

Excellent product - RAM Mounts are the best and this is the best phone holder out there!
If you lose your phone with this then you must have not tightened your ball down securely. I've taken this thing off-road on my pig of a R1200GS and forgot it was there. The tension on the grips hold my Samsung Galaxy S5 steady and true. I commute daily 40 miles each way through the twisties and the only time it almost came loose is when I didn't put it in flat against the base, it still held it though. I was on some gnarly dirt and rock trails on National Forest roads and it held firm. Just make sure you tighten the ball properly and you've seated your phone properly and it's not going anywhere.

Holds cell Securely
2014 BMW NineT (no windscreen)
I ride hard 100+ mph and this holds the phone tight.
No wiggle no jiggle.
Not sure about the last reviewer who lost his phone.
there are many out there who "just don't get it"
I wanted a flush mount look, but still have the ability to point camera forward if I wanted to shoot a quick video.
So I purchased the X mount with the SML Double socket and the handle bar clamp base with M8 screws.
All my friends are switching over to the same set up.

Not a good idea
Received this a day early (thanks revzilla, at least that part went well). However, using a Ram U-mount and a medium arm, the X-Grip IV let my Note 3 blow off the mount and into traffic. Very much splat.
I would ONLY use this inside a car with the windows rolled up, and even then I'd prefer a car with soft carpet. The mount seems like a fairly good concept, very grippy rubber pads don't let it wiggle, the mount system dampens almost 100% of vibration, and it's easy to adjust. All of which mattered not a single tiny bit when my note 3 went skipping down the road and was promptly run over by a couple dozen cars.
There is no warning whatsoever, it seems rock solid, and then it's gone. I had a fair amount of confidence after installing it and tugging/pulling to see if it would work loose. My confidence was misplaced.
in short THIS MOUNT IS NOT FOR ANY APPLICATION OUTSIDE OF AN ENCLOSED SPACE preferably a room filled with pillows instead of roads made of pavement
