Nolan N104 Action Helmet

Nolan N104 Helmets represent an evolutionary step for Nolan as they replace the much touted N103 Helmet.  When compared the older N103, the Nolan N104 Helmet offers a helmet which is much lighter (7oz), features a lower profile through the use of multiple shell sizes, better aerodynamics, as well as a much larger viewport for increased visibility. The (patented) chin guard rotation movement with elliptical trajectory makes it possible to keep the total size of the helmet's front section to a minimum, when the chin guard is open. The "sail" effect is consequently highly reduced and riding comfort is still guaranteed, even when the chin guard is lifted. The new ultrawide eyeport is the largest of any Nolan helmet, both vertically and laterally for maximum field of view.

The AIRBOOSTER ventilation system is equipped with an air intake in the chin bar, another intake in the brow and two rear extractors at the rear. The inner comfort lining includes removable cheekpads, inner liner, neckroll and chin curtain and is easily removable and washable as well as antifungal and antibacterial. New, redesigned comfort liner also accommodates eyeglasses much more easily than before.

All Nolan N104 helmets are also N-COM B4 ready (N-COM B4 is designed expressly for the N104 and is sold separately).

Shell Features:

  • Injected polycarbonate GE Lexan shell
  • 7oz lighter than the Nolan N103
  • Two Shell engineering allows Nolan N104 to offer sizes from 2XS to 3XL (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Dimensionally correct sizing allows ample cubic volume in chin/nose area

Faceshield Features:

  • Face shields are now sized to fit the two different shell sizes (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Ultra wide eye port opening is the largest on any Nolan helmet for superior visibility
  • Shield is changed by a simple push button mechanism
  • Pinlock shield included with each helmet
  • VPS (Vision Protection System) is new; slider bar to lower, push button release for instant retraction
  • VPS lens is scratch and fog resistant

Chin Bar Features:

  • Centromatic chin guard opening mechanism requires dual action, simultaneous action to prevent accidental opening
  • Dual action opening mechanism is positioned in the centre of the chin guard and allows for easy, one-handed opening

Ventilation:

  • N104 has new AIRBOOSTER ventilation system, ensures optimal ventilation where is is most required
  • Air intake in the chin guard draws air in and onto the inside of the faceshield
  • 3 position top vent (closed, crown vent, crown/brow vent)
  • 2 venturi exhaust ports at rear of helmet
  • New plastic vent tube channels in EPS disperse cool air throughout the helmet interior

Inner Liner:

  • Features removable cheek pads, inner liner, neck roll and wind protector
  • The inner padding of the new N104 is easily removable and washable and antibacterial
  • The shape of the inner comfort padding facilitates eyeglass wearing
  • Reflective insert at the centre of the roll neck further improves the rider's visibility at night
  • Neck roll can be removed easily, for more comfort in the warmer months

Other Features:

  • N-Com Communication System compatible (sold separately)
  • Features new Microlock2 quick-release retention system
  • Microlock2 consists of a plastic ergonomic opening lever, and of a second aluminium toothed and holding lever
  • Microlock2 minimizes the possibility of unintentional opening while still making it ergonomic and easy to use

Nolan N104 Action Helmet 4.5 5 427 427
Excellent Value for the money Odd fit, I normally wear a medium but the Nolan fit was too tight. The large was too big but I plan to solve this problem by buying medium inserts. Absolutely amazing vision out the front end. Stability is fine for touring but helmet does slightly buffet in crosswinds. I can put the helmet on and off without removing my glasses; wearing my B helmet (AGU) wrecked my other glasses. The shaded vizor worked perfectly and removes the requirement to wear sunglasses....that's a win. Overall I wanted the Schubert C3 but I'm glad I went with the Nolan....Very good helmet for the money. May 24, 2014
First Helmet This is my first helmet so I can't compare well with others. That said, I really love this helmet. I extensively reviewed many many helmets and while I was a little unsure spending over $300 on a first helmet I am very glad I did. This helmet is extremely comfortable. The vision is wide and it feels very quiet with the visor down. However, with the visor down on really hot days I can still get a little warm even with the vents open. Since Nolan generally offers more round helmets I was somewhat concerned since I have a more narrow to intermediate head shape. The 104 still fits perfectly. I would buy again. If you want a modular helmet I strongly recommend this one. May 20, 2014
Good, but didn't quite live up to expectations. This was going to be my first modular helmet purchase. I had a Shoei RF1000 that I had been using for a number of years. That Shoei fit like a glove, so putting on the new Nolan for the first time was kind of a letdown. I bought the size large. It fits the crown of my head near perfectly with no "hot spots". The cheek pads were very tight from the start. They have broken in fairly well. I wold probably prefer them to be a little looser, but they will work. Getting thinner cheek pads in the Large helmet size was not an option. The biggest gripe I have about the fitment is there there is really no "pocket" for my ears to fit into. On all my other helmets there was plenty of padding on the sides of the helmet and they created nice ear pockets. On this helmet, the padding is minimal on the sides and my ears are constantly pressed tight against the hard inner liner of the helmet. It's not bad on short trips, but after an hour or more, then it gets uncomfortable quickly. My Shoei has way more padding in this area. Shoot, even my Fox motocross helmet has better padding. I agree with others who wish the tinted visor was a little darker and that it would come down just a bit more. The first notch of the clear visor is also set to high. The quality of the helmet seems very good. The top vent works very, very well. The padding around the bottom keep out most of the wind and the visor seals great. I can't say I hate this helmet. It has a lot of good qualities. I just doubt I would buy a Nolan again because of the fitment. It wasn't bad enough to make me exchange it, but I'll probably be going back to a Shoei (modular) next time. May 20, 2014
Excellant modular helmet Before this Nolan 104, my primary helmet was a Aria RXQ. So this is a more or less a comparison. I like the 104 better. The modular design allow me to blow my nose while riding among the other advantage of a modular. The real surprise was how light the 104 feels. I love the ratcheting clasp vs fumbling with a D ring. The internal tinted shield is a real plus. I have a round head and the fit is very good but the cheek pad were too thick for my fat face so I had to remove some foam from them to reduce the pressure. The real surprise is how quiet it is. Quieter than my RXQ. The only down side is the ventilation over the head is not so good, clearly not as good as the RXQ. May 19, 2014
Much improved over the N-103 The N-104 is much improved over the N-103 in many ways. Most noticeably its quieter and much improved vision. There is more front to rear room as my chin no longer hits the front chin bar and the Mic is not squashed up against you. The Cons: The fit. If you liked the N-103 sizing, you'll find the same size in the N-104 is much much tighter. Especially as you latch the flip up down, you'll notice the helmet squeeze against your jaw and ears. That really is uncomfortable if you ware glasses as I do. I expected the Large the same as the N-103 Large did. I also hoped that the over tightness would also subside as did with the N-103 but hasn't yet. Had issues adding the B4 N-COM. The ribbon cable kept pulling out of the connecter as i was trying to mount the exterior switch assy. Took many tries of removing it to put the ribbon cable back in place. Then there wasn't quite enough space for the switch assy against the inner hard foam inserts and part of the hard foam insert broke off as I tried to squeeze it all in there. I found inserting the BT kits and head sets for both the N-102 and N-103 fit better. I'm using a large table spoon to compress the inner hard foam to make the fit work. Russ May 15, 2014
Great fit, it really does vent well. I normally wear a size XL. I bought a XXL for best fit. My first modular helmet. I like it. First helmet with the tinted internal sunvisor. I bought the MCS II wired intercom to go in this helmet. It went in easy. Works and sounds great. The helmet outer shell is larger than my past helmets. If I had two of these they would NOT both fit in my Gold Wing center top trunk. I typically ride wearing sunglasses and the clear visor open. The visor kinda clicks a lil bit at the hinge points from wind vibration. May 14, 2014
this product has great features Love the way this helmet fits especially over my braid. This is my 2nd nolan helmet. May 12, 2014
Great helmet snug fit I got. This to replace an 11-year-old Shoei. It is as comfortable and better ventilated than the older Shoei. I did not want to spend $700 for a new Shoei I wear glasses and I can take this helmet on and off without removing my glasses and the sunvisor feature is great it works with my glasses and it does not interfere i'm going to take my revzilla cash and buy another Nolan helmet for my wife May 12, 2014

A shopper asked: Does the face shield protect from UV rays? Mar 4, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
Edward D: Nolan shields are made from polycarbonate which blocks 99% of UVA and UVB rays with frequencies up to 400 nanometers. In other words, yes, whether the shield is clear or tinted your eyes are protected from UV just as if you were wearing the best pair of sunglasses. In fact, better, since with sunglasses, some light gets into your eyes from the sides and top. With a face shield in the closed position, no UV rays hit your pupils. Apr 29, 2014

RevZilla: Everything we have heard about the N104 seems to say that it will be quieter. In addition, it is made for the new B4 bluetooth system that should provide a clearer signal and better sound quality. Mar 21, 2012

JohnnyBravo: The improvements in quietness for the N104 are significant. Depending on what you ride and how much wind protection your bike offers, the usefulness of the com gear may or may not be better. May 27, 2013
