Nolan N-Com Basic Kit 2
The Basic kit is mono compared to the Basic Kit 2, which is stereo.
For basic N-COM communication and audio, each helmet must be equipped with a Basic Kit and an N-Com E-box.
Includes earphones, a microphone, and two short wires (that hang from the underside of the helmet, and allow you to plug in various devices). The speakers and microphone are powered by the battery in either a E-Box Intercom 2 Kit or a E-box Bluetooth 2 Kit. The Basic Kit along with an N-COM E-box will permit you to listen to your music player, radar detector, GPS unit, etc., and talk on your cell phone, but you must control volume on the source device and answer the phone by pressing the controls on the phone. For connecting to external audio and communications devices, a Multimedia Wire and/or Cell Phone Wire is needed in addition to the E-Box kit.
Installs in minutes without any tools or modifications.

The install was a bit tedious because of vague directions and poor photos in the instructions. Once I got the unit installed the fit and finish were pretty good.
I synced the Bluetooth up with my iPhone and was very pleased with the call clarity...even @ highway speeds. Unfortunately that pleasure was short lived when I tried to listen to music from my iPhone. It may be stereo but the speakers leave much to be desired. They were definatley not the speakers I had mounted in there at first & are obviously not designed with music in mind.
I guess I do hear the music, and I can make and receive calls with the helmet on, so I guess the flexibility is a big plus. I just wish the speakers were better with music, especially for the price invested!

Very easy to install and works good. Have not had a chance to do a ride yet but we have tested in the house. Thats the only reason for "good" rating because I do not for sure on durability yet.

Fit right into my new N43 Trilogy helmet. Hooked up this and the bluetooth adapter in minutes and was up and running with a new bluetooth helmet. Once installed no increased weight or wires hanging around... everything tucked up good as new.
A must have if you have a Nolan helmet.

The N-Com Basic Kit 2 delivered as promised. I can plug into my GPS to hear directions or music, and the GPS Bluetooth connects my phone to the helmet speakers and microphone. Unfortunately, the volume of the speakers just isn't quite loud enough to overcome road noise and the fact that I wear ear plugs. Yeah... I could lose the ear plugs and hear the music better, but I value the level of hearing I still have.
Installation wasn't horrible, but the instructions could be a little more clear and the illustrations / pictures could have had better definition. It only took a little bit of head scratching to figure things out and everything went back together without a hitch.
Maybe the system would work better on a bike with a full fairing instead of a naked dual sport. Still, I'm happy with the purchase and Nolan did a good job with the engineering of the product to make sure it fit well within the helmet.

Do I need to my the e-box in order to use an MP3 player with the Basic Kit 2? I do not ever plan on using the intercom or mic. I just want to listen to the MP3 player. On the Nolan website, my understanding is NO but Revzilla says YES. Which is it. I do not want to spend another $100 if I do not have to. Thanks

The E-Box kits include the battery, which is what powers the speakers. Without the E-Box, the Basic Kits do not function. Unfortunately, they draw more power than earbuds plugged into an MP3 player would. If you are looking for a cheaper solution, try the Sena SMH-10. You can get an all-in-one unit for much less and it clips on to most any helmet.Age: 25-34

You will require on for each helmet. i.e. one basic kit and one blue tooth kit (for each helmet).A fairly big investment but an excellent product which has worked for me for nearly four years now.
I carry my 15 yr old daughter on the back and sometimes just want to turn it off, but at least I know she is still awake!!!

I'm using the X-cable to plug my N-Com Basic 2 system directly to a Garmin nuvi. With earplugs in and at highway speeds, I can only hear a faint trace of music from the Garmin's .mp3 player. At 45 mph, I can hear the music fairly well. At 35 mph, I'm rockin' out. I've tried it with the ear plugs removed and obviously I can hear the music better. If you have a fairing or a large windscreen, your results might be better.8 months ago

I am sure this product will meet with all your expectations. The volume is generated by the strength of the battery rather than the blue tooth connection. If you are only using the Basic Kit, and plugging your device into the input port, your volume will be governed by the strength of the input signal from the device and the battery strength of the Basic kit.
