Overall good buy for what you get Bought the jacket for the wife. The ability to convert from mesh to solid jacket is a great feature for someone looking to buy a single jacket for multiple purposes. The fit is a little snug on some areas like the neck for people with a shorter neck. There is enough adjustments to allow for overall comfort with the jacket though. July 23, 2014
I love it! This is the first real riding jacket I have bought and I absolutely love it. I have only worn the mesh as I live in the desert and the airflow is great. I was unsure of what size to get and ended up getting a medium. I have a pear shape, am about 5'4" with a 32 in waist. The great thing about the jacket is that is has zippers to make the waist bigger, so if you are pear shape, this is very helpful. July 14, 2014
Great all weather jacket Buying this jacket would be one of my best decisions re. my gear. Its versatile, comfortable, waterproof and has the option of multiple layers. Im not sure how it would be in very cold weather, but for the climate here it is perfect. June 9, 2014
This is a great all-in-1 jacket! I am a new rider and this is my first jacket. I looked at many, many other jackets and kept coming back to this one, and I am so glad I did! This jacket has great fit and styling and the multiple layers and ways to wear it in any weather! No need to buy 3 other coats! Love it! Thank you Revzilla for Anthony and your product breakdown! Very informative and helpful! Made buying a jacket I could only look at on-line soooo much easier! June 1, 2014
Great Air Flow I purchased this jacket as a beginner rider. I like that this jacket has 3 layers; a thermal, a mesh jacket, and the outer shell. I've ridden in mid-50's temperatures with all of the layers and it kept me warm and comfortable. I've also ridden in 70-80's range with just the mesh and the air flow is great. I have yet to test out the waterproof feature, but other reviews hint that that feature isn't done well. Love the versatility and I recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a nice looking jacket that will also protect you if you go down. May 13, 2014
Not my final choice I am a newbie to motorcycle riding and gear. I narrowed down my choice of jackets to this one and the Olympia Airglide. I usually wear a medium in most styles {5'2, 145 pounds, 36C}, but for the Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket I had to order a size up {large}. I ordered this in Silver/White. The outer textile jacket felt extremely stiff, the bottom hem of the textile did not give around my hips and there was no way to adjust this. The sleeves were also too long. I really wanted to like this jacket as it is very stylish and looks good, but I just didn't feel comfortable. March 24, 2014
Why cant you find womens' jackets like this in stores? This is a great jacket. I got it for my girlfriend who is an occasional passenger on my Tenere. I wanted something that would protect her and offer three season comfort. She is very style conscious and while agreeing with the protection / comfort approach also wanted something that would look good. This jacket does all that. The design - with the mesh inner jacket holding all the armor - is brilliant. We got the black and purple. Both the mesh jacket and the outer jacket look fantastic, and the customizable fit highlights her highlights. I saw the reviews saying the rain protection isn't what it could be. I can't comment on that - I don't plan to bring her along if it's raining. We checked several brick and mortar stores in the area - no women's jacket anyone had in store was close to the features, look, and fit of this jacket. March 23, 2014
Love this jacket! I put this jacket on my wish list last year as I started seriously riding, because everything I tried on locally didn't really fit my body. Delivered as a Christmas present--this jacket was the perfect fit. I'm an average size 12, but have large shoulders, so I usually have to sacrifice style for fit. Not with this jacket, the buckles allow for a fitted waist while allowing room for my shoulders. Now--I didn't mark protect/durability or air flow because I haven't had a chance to ride in it yet. RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
R E: Just feminine enough :) Aug 22, 2014
Byron C: Great jacket. It's actually two jackets in one. My girlfriend liked the video review of it. Aug 22, 2014
Amanda P: 3-in-1! I love how the windproof layer is on the outside, much less hassle for when the temps go up or down during a ride. I currently don't have my own jacket, I ride in either my brother's old Joe Rocket mesh, which is too big for me; or my mom's fake-leather jacket, which fits, but sometimes she's using it! With this I don't need to buy multiple jackets, or wonder which to wear, since I'll be able to keep the extra layers in my saddle bag. I like the style, just hope the size I picked fits. Jun 6, 2014
Michele D: Protection, style, and versitility. Gonna be doing a little bit of traveling with temperature fluctuations. May 27, 2014

Julie S: I needed a new jacket and this one suits all seasons, so should be perfect for my needs. Mar 14, 2014
Dianne D: I wanted something feminine looking that had a lot of versatility. This suits me to a T. I wear this year-round, but in the winter, I do alternate with my other jackets. This one gets used almost exclusively in the summer because of the mesh layer. I really like that the armor is in the mesh layer. I originally purchased the black color because the white/grey was not available. I am not a "black motorcycle gear" kind of person, so when the white/grey color became available I got it instead Mar 1, 2014
Jose Ricardo S: Beautiful Jacket, many options at great price. Very nice quality. Feb 28, 2014

Audrey Q: great value w multi ways to wear the jacket. Very stylish as well. Jan 6, 2014
Ryan R: Wife picked it Dec 13, 2013
Thomas H: My wife likes the versatility of this jacket and the fact the protective layer is in the middle, rather than the third layer. It has worked perfectly in this respect. The warmth and wind protection is perfect and the coolness during warmer rides is the same. The one flaw is the outer shell simply isn't waterproof. First time out the seams leaked like a sieve. However, my wife decided to keep it, and use her own trusted outer shell that is not for motorcycling, rather a good Gortex jacket. Dec 9, 2013

Nishant C: It's an all weather jacket as per the description, lets hope it turns out to be as claimed.

Tonya P: The review showed a model in the jacket that was about my size so I knew that it would fit. The versatility of the out fit... one outfit for several seasons. Sep 18, 2013
Amy J: Reading the reviews and watching the videos it seems that this will be the best versatile jacket to work with the wide temperature ranges that I am going to have to deal with in the Pacific Northwest. I am looking forward to seeing how well I like the fit, feel and protection that this jacket will provide. Sep 2, 2013
Charlotte M: I chose this item because I am a beginner rider looking for a two in one jacket. I love that it has the waterproof outer shell while it also has the all mesh liner that has the armor so you can take the outer shell off on warmer days. Aug 16, 2013
A shopper asked: Is the pocket where you can add a spine protector only part of the outside jacket? So as to say if i purchased this and a c.e. spine protector but im mostly going to be using the 'inner' jacket will there be a place to put the spine protector in that inner mesh jacket? Apr 3, 2014

david c: The mesh jacket has the pocket for the spine protector. It comes with one, probably not as good as you want to buy but yeah, all the protection is in the mesh jacket part. So if you take out the insulated vest, and remove the outer shell you still have all the armor. Apr 4, 2014

Joe H: Just looked at my wife's jacket and all armor is contained in the inner mesh jacket module. The spine protector pocket appears rather small primarily between shoulder blades Apr 3, 2014

William C: The spine protector can be used in either the inner or outer jacket; in fact, it comes pre-installed in the inner jacket, but is easily transfered. Apr 3, 2014

Lisa D: The shoulder, elbow and spine protector pockets are in the inner mesh jacket. Apr 3, 2014

Robert F: Nope. There is a pocket in each of them. Apr 3, 2014

Mark R: All of the armor mounts in the mesh portion of the jacket. Additionally, the jacket comes with a spine protector, so unless you just want a specific spine protector, you do not need to buy one seperately. Apr 4, 2014

A shopper asked: Hi, I'm looking to purchase this Alter Ego 3.0, but I'm a bit confused on the sizing. I'm a 41inch bust, 38 waist, 41 inch hip...according to the sizing chart, I'm all over the place!
To fit my bust I'd be a Large, to fit my waist I'd be a 2Diva, to fit my hip I'd be a large.
So, would I'd best be suited to a LARGE?
I'm a 5'2" broad shouldered woman and do not want to have an issue of taking the inner shell out and having it be too big or vice versa being too small with the vest only.
Thanks!

Michael R: I bought this for my 11 year old daughter. For best results I recommend calling customer support to make sure you get the best fit.

My daughter doesn't have any problems with the jacket fitting in either configuration…it doesn't appear that the outer shell is supposed to be worn alone as the armor is fitted to the mesh jacket. You can pull the armor out and put it in the outer shell but we feel that makes things difficult and time consuming. Just the outer shell would make the jacket a bit sloppy, but again, I don't think it was designed to be worn that way.

When we want to be cooler we take off the outer shell and put it back on for rain or colder temps. as long as the mesh jacket fits the outer shell will fit too. The vest liner does add some bulk, but if you get that to fit then when you take it out the mesh jacket still fits well for us.

I can tell you that we love the jacket. It has good adjustability and can be used for more than just one temp setting. it's a good three season jacket.

Dianne D: My advice is to buy the size that fits your shoulders best because the rest of it is pretty adjustable between zippers and straps. Another consideration is will you ever be wearing extra layers? My bust is 41 & 36 waist, but if I put a measuring tape around my shoulders (above the bust line) I get 45 inches. I went with an x-large because I ride in the winter and I wear extra layers (including a down coat) under it. In the summer, the shoulders are loose, but not dramatically so. The mesh jacket is very comfortable on its own. I think if I were only planning on wearing this jacket in the summer, a Large would have worked for me.

If you only ride in the summer and don't plan on extra layers, you might try a Large and see how it feels. I wouldn't worry too much about the hip measurement because it's not a super-long jacket and there are zippered gussets that you can "let out". RevZilla is very good about returns/exchanges, so if you try the Large and decide it doesn't fit, you can exchange it really easily.

Michael S: My wife is about 38 bust and 31 waist 5'6". She also has broad shoulders and has trouble fitting jackets because of that. She says that the hip measurement doesn't really matter since the jacket is so short. She is smaller up top and larger lower and the jacket fits her well in a Small. This jacket is a bit backwards from most, the inner jacket is the mesh jacket with armor. The outer jacket is a waterproof textile jacket that can be worn separately or over the mesh and can take the back armor piece. She mostly just wears the inner mesh jacket. Feb 23, 2014

A s: I have trouble finding clothes due to chest size (46 inches). I went to the store to try on the jackets since I wanted to be able to zipper the jacket and feel comfortable. Tried on different sizes and styles. The 2Diva is big in the shoulders and sleeves but is comfortable in the chest area. The jacket can be adjustable straps in the hips and waist (5'4", comparable in hips and waist). Tried on the 1Diva and it was a better fit all around but snug in the chest area. Hope this helps. Lisa D: I'm a 34 inch bust and 28 inch waist. I wear a medium and am very happy with it. I first ordered a small (which matched my bust size). It was okay at the waist, but too snug through the shoulders and the sleeve length was too short.

Hope this helps you decide.

A S asked: So, second time I'm asking this (I'm not sure if someone thought it was a bad question so it was taken down, but if I'm spending $225 of my hard earned money on a jacket I sure would like to know what I'm getting before I've paid for it). The stock image of the black/purple is different than others I've found online. Some of them seem to be a bit more blue. Does anyone know what the true color of the jacket is? May 30, 2014

Mark W: I bought this jacket in black for my wife and she loves it. As for the purple one, I'd go with purple. It's always hard to by online when it comes to color. That's the great thing about RevZilla! If it's not to your liking just send it back. It's only 7 bones if you don't like the color. No risk. May 31, 2014

Jason L: A S, I bought this jacket a few months ago for my girl I the purple/black color and the purple is true purple and matches every purple accent on her bike perfectly, and the removable mesh liner is awesome for hot weather and looks great, she's told me she couldn't be happier with it Jun 26, 2014

A S: Thank you! And sorry for sounding like such a tool with my question. I had been on pain killers for an illness and while I was wondering about this, I don't even remember putting these questions on the forum (much less coming off like a jerk). May 31, 2014

david c: I can't speak for what your monitor shows, but the color shown on the Revzilla site is very true to the purple on the jacket. The black is pure black. May 31, 2014

A shopper asked: I live in a climate that has two seasons, Spring, Summer- would this be too warm for me? Jan 28, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: Yes and no. The outer jacket, which is waterproof (read: windproof) will be quite warm for you. The mesh jacket underneath however (you get 2 for 1 with the Alter Ego 3.0), would keep you plenty cool in the heat. Everyone's temperature tolerances are a bit different, but my guess is that the waterproof shell would be a bit much in the summer. Jan 31, 2013

A shopper asked: I have a Cleo (trying to upgrade for more of a 3 season jacket), and I fit into the M size category according to the size chart, but it swallows me when I wear it so I was just wondering if the Alter Ego fit as generously so that I could order the correct size. Jun 1, 2012

A shopper asked: I've seen several pictures of this jacket online and can't get a feel for the true color of the black/purple jacket. I've seen some pictures where it looks more blue or blue/purple. Does anyone know if the true color of the jacket is closer to the stock picture or is it in fact a bit more blue/purple in color? May 29, 2014
