Icon Compound Leather & Textile Overpants

Helmet, gloves, jacket, boots - the essential riding gear worn by every motorcycle operator who understands the game and the stakes associated. Too often riding-specific pants are left out, and too often down riders must recover from rashed legs when they could have just walked away and begun the Ebay® search for a new tank and rear sets. The Compound pant is remarkably understated considering the added level of abrasion resistance offered by durable leather / textile construction with removable CE knee impact protectors. Designed to be used as an 'overpant,' the Compound pant fits comfortably over your street denim. Dual full-length side zippers make the on/off process too easy to ignore. If you are running the streets in your mall-bought jeans, we suggest you up your game with the Compound.

Features:

  • ICON OVERPANT FIT PATTERN
  • DURABLE LEATHER AND TEXTILE CHASSIS
  • REMOVABLE/ADJUSTABLE CE KNEE IMPACT PROTECTORS
  • 2-WAY SIDE ZIPPER

Better than road rash! I wonder why people ride in standard jeans; wearing this over them basically solves any road rash issues. Protection is good -- the leather and mesh is excellent, feels thick and solid, like it will save you in a crash. In truth, the leather feels better than that on my jacket! Airflow is excellent, at speed neither your legs, hips, nor crotch warm up. Even in cold temps (50F) it's fine, under that it gets a little chilly but it's not a big deal. Convenience: These may be the ultimate commuter gear. I walk into work, duck into a bathroom, and these are off in ten seconds. I can then stuff them into a backpack and continue my day. Do not need to take boots off; just open the front, unzip the side zippers (there are two, but I use one) and they come off. It even has two additional pockets to store keys and stuff. The only cons are that they do run big -- I do feel like I'm wearing parachute pants sometimes -- and the knee armor seems to sit low, even at the highest spot, though that could be my body dimensions. (240lbs, 6', overw--er, "non-athletic" build. If you're just a tall guy or in better shape yours may fit better?) Overall these are excellent, and I recommend them highly. They are somewhat pricey, but they are cheaper than ER treatment for road rash on your buttocks. November 16, 2012
Very nice pants but they run big These pants are awesome. I have not yet taken them out for a ride but they look great, are very high quality, thick leather, and have large double zippers on side of legs for easy on and off. The knee pads have two adjustable heights in the legs, but still sit a little low on my knees even in the higher position. When sitting on my bike the pants ride up a bit due to leg position so the pads align fine on the bike. There is also a zipper flap you can sew to your jacket so you can connect the jacket and pants on the back side of the waist/lower back. My only negative thing to say is that these run quite large. I knew they would be baggy due to the overpant style that I wanted, but they are still bigger than expected. I wear a size 32 jeans, so I ordered a 32 in these. The front ratchet clasp is as tight as it will go and the two adjustable straps on the sides are as tight as they go and they fit just right. I am still pondering if I should exchange for a size 30 and loosen the 3 positions in the waist. Six of one, half a dozen of the other I guess. Overall I think these are amazing pants! They are my first pair and will most likely be my last pair for years. I am glad I spent the extra money to get some good quality leather pants instead of another pair of snow-pants that are wannabe riding pants with little or no protection and style for street use/commuting to and from work. Great Overpants I was looking for a pair of over pants that I could zip up over my jeans for commuting to work, but also wear without jeans on the weekend fun rides. The Icon Compounds are awesome and fit the bill perfectly. Overall, the pants seem to be well made. They are somewhat heavy (they are leather!) with a sturdy, confidence inspiring feel. The leather appears to be of good quality and the knee pads might do something for you, should you need them. The stitching looks good, but there were several uncut strings hanging from the pants when new, something I didn't expect from a $350 pair of pants. Getting the Compound on over your jeans is a non-issue. Just unbutton the bottom, bring the bottom zipper on each leg up to your hips and step in through the waist. Run the zippers back down your leg, fasten the buttons, click the ratcheting belt mechanism and you're golden. Couldn't be easier. Getting these on or off, even with boots on, is a cinch. Adjustments via the velcro waist adjusters and the ratcheting clasp make it easy to dial in a perfect fit. I ordered my regular sized pants as others have recommended and they fit great. (I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam, ordered a 34") The temps have dropped and these pants, with jeans, keep me warm enough in the mornings (50-55F California mornings). I don't know in what temps I would want something else, but don't see riding in these year-round a problem in my area. The Compound pants also work great in warmer weather without jeans. If these pants didn't have so many uncut strings hanging off them when they first arrived, I'd say they'd be a five star product. Maybe nit-picky, but at the core, this is a safety item and with that, it should be DIALED before being shipped for retail sale. In the end, though, these pants look good, fit great, seem to offer good protection, will work year-round in milder climates and are easy to get in and out of. October 8, 2012
Nice pants; but plan for a larger than expected fit These over pants have a great look, and nice coverage. The airflow appears adequate, and the leather protection & underpass are placed well. Plan on picking a size near your usual pants size as this definitely fit a bit baggy. Overall I would recommend, price does match quality & durability / comfort. July 3, 2012

Answer:
The Icon Compound Overpants are a mixture of textile/leather whereas the Icon Compound Mesh Overpants are a mixture of mesh/leather. That being said, the Compound Overpants will offer more all around protection because of the additional abrasion resistance.
