Icon Turnbuckle Gloves

Sometimes the best way forward is back. Craftsmanship and technologies, once abandoned, can be reexamined and repurposed. The Icon One Thousand Turnbuckle uses such refound tech to its advantage. Custom knit forchettes, circa-OG MX gloves, provide uncompromised fit & feel. When paired with a French cowhide chassis and fingertips, the Turnbuckle provides a handheld barricade against asphalt intrusion. D3O armor integrated into the main knuckle furthers the riding legitimacy of the Turnbuckle platform. What’s old is new again.

  • D3O Armor in knuckles
  • Abrasion resistant premium grade French cowhide chassis
  • Knit nylon finger gussets
  • Perforated panels for increased ventilation
  • Secure wrist closure keeps glove in place
  • Pre-curved palm and finger design

An okay glove but binds at the knuckles. I ended keeping these gloves because I thought they felt comfortable when I first put them on and I got them on sale. However, after a few hours riding my knuckles got sore because the protection armor binds across the middle knuckle. It might just be my hands but I can't recommend them in good faith. April 13, 2015
Comfort level AWESOME i purchased these gloves because of the well known ICON name, but who could imagine the thrill of it all when i first put them on. They feel like butter and offer good tactile response. Haven't rode with these in temps above 80 so i cant mention anything about ventilation. Get these gloves. In fact, get 2 pair. They will be your go-to gloves for the spring/summer and summer/fall. April 13, 2015
Excellent Leather! I LOVE these gloves and can't believe what a great deal they are on closeout! The video review was spot on. These gloves feel so great and have some of the best tactile response I've felt from a glove. Besides being so supple the leather is also pretty thick unlike some other Icon gloves I've tried on and that was my main worry with ordering these but they are great. I'm actually impressed by the D3O armor too. I've had lots of carbon knuckle gloves but for street and highway riding I'm sure these will offer plenty of protection. I know these aren't track ready but I'm not as into track days anymore and just enjoy getting out and riding around on some back roads and I think these are probably some of the best gloves you can get for that purpose. My one complaint is as others have said, the L glove does have a pinky finger that seems maybe 1/8" too long for some reason. Small gripe for how good all of the other features of the glove are though. I still have my old SIDI vertebra boots and an alpinestars leather jacket so these may not be the best match for the rest of my gear but I like them so much I may start loading up on this Icon 1000 gear! Great Summer Gloves I bought these as my first ever pair of motorcycle gloves, and found them to be well worth the purchase. They flow plenty of air on warm days, which is exactly what you want in a light glove like this. Of course due to this, they will absolutely freeze your hands off in the cold, so keep that in mind. The stitching and seams inside the glove bothered me a little at first as I could feel them a bit more than I'd expected, but they're no big deal and something you get used to. The fit in the palm is a bit constricting when I extend my hand fully, but they fit just right when my hand is curled around the handlebars. I may have bought a size too small, but I wouldn't necessarily want to go any larger, as there is already room at the tips of a couple fingers. Overall they fit well, but aren't perfect. Tactile response with these is great. I'd definitely recommend them if their style appeals to you. January 25, 2015
Good riding gloves For the price point and I got them on sale. They are decent gloves. Not as much protection as I expected but for $50 gloves I think are pretty good. I like the style and how they look. However the fingers are little long size wise which is weird. Because all the other icon gloves I've bought fit true to size. January 12, 2015
Stylish I'm going to be honest, my first impression of this glove was that it was extremely light. I own a pair of speed & strength and agv gloves, yet these felt far lighter then what I own. Its french cowhide, so it's a leaner hide then what competitors are using. This glove is full french cowhide and once I got over the slim design, I started to enjoy the gloves. I am glad that they have D30 armor, yet I feel like the glove could have a better wrist support at the strap tends to stress my wrist more than it's already in a supersport. Also this glove does not have a palm 'foam' protector as if you were to fall the shock would go directly to your body, yet the leather will do its job for abrasion purposes. To conclude my rant, I still enjoy the glove. Its fairly light due to the french cowhide, and yet its a cowhide, so it'll save...your hide. The glove is comfortable overall, and feel safe riding with it. This glove was meant to be ridden in the cruiser scene, but I ride it in my supersport because it looks so sick. There are better gloves that offer more protection for a supersport rider, but I know this will protect me. January 11, 2015
Great all around glove. Good fitting, soft leather glove. Break in was quick and painless. January 5, 2015
Great overall performer First pair of street gloves I've bought, I feel they have similarities to the older style motocross gloves from the 90's in regards to style and as far as being thicker and with more padding on the back than today's motocross gloves so I felt right at home with them being a long time ATV'er / dirt biker. Breathability is nice since the material in between the fingers is stretch fabric which vents nicely and the leather is perforated in the thumb and cuff. A little stiff at the beginning but they break in nicely, certain areas of the leather stretch out more than others which can make for a loose fit at the cuff and back of the glove, the closure is a simple velcro strip that performs well, my only gripe with the velcro is that it gets caught right were it changes from velcro hook to loop in the velcro buckle which is sometimes annoying when removing or putting them on but is also good since the velcro never accidentally gets totally removed from the turnbuckle which would be more annoying to try and correct with the other glove on. Leather feels thin but not insecure, I would like more palm protection on these to make them more durable and safe. In regards to my above comment, I will however mention that I was involved in an accident a couple days ago while wearing these, the steel icon logo on both the velcro closure and back of the palm took a lot of tarmac and did so gracefully, my right hand was the one that did most of the contact and the leather on the palm and tips of the fingers did wear but did not wear through. These gloves saved me from having more injuries and road rash, I could not be happier with them, I will probably keep using these but keep an eye on the worn palm. I'm fairly confident that they could take another spill like the last one and still protect me (not that i want to) but that would probably be the end of them. November 26, 2014

Cade H asked: Hi everyone.
I'm really interested in ordering these gloves but I am in Australia and I'm a little concerned with the sizing.
To the sizing chart I am a medium and in my Alpinestars SP-1 and Dainese D-Drys im also a very snug Medium.
Do you think you could give me any guidance from that info?
Thank you very much

Jeffrey R: Hi Cade H,
I purchased these same gloves in April and I wore them all summer here in Rhode Island, USA. They were my primary summer gloves until I started using the ' Held Rodney Gloves' (Tan) late summer. I like the Held better and they fit better. I wear a small in all my gloves including this one. The Icon 1000 fit is snug but not so snug that they cut off circulation. They will stretch a little but not much. Although I like the Held Rodney Glove better, the Icon 1000 gloves are great and look cool in Green. Good ventilation nice summer riding glove.
If you normally take a medium glove, they will probably fit the same as the Alpinestar and Dainese, that is 'snug'.
If you can afford the extra $10 go with the 'Held Rodney Gloves' , you won't be disappointed. Both gloves are a great choice. The Held fits better and is a better built glove in my opinion. Hope this helps...Jeff RI USA

Lindsay H: Hi there,
I'm also from Australia. I bought these gloves in L and they are perfect (on the size chart I would be L too), but in my Alpinestars I buy XL.
I guess it depends on how snug your A* and Daineses are, the mediums in these could end up being the right fit.

Hope this helps.

Adam M: I purchased a pair of mediums from the size chart, but they are actually a little bit loose on my hand. They are still comfortable and I will buy another pair, but I think I'll order a small just to stop the bunching in the palm when working the throttle. Apr 12, 2014

Robert B asked: Question about the sizing here. I have yet to measure my hand to find what exact size I am so I'm seeing if I can get an answer here. I wear my Mechanix gloves in a XL. They fit perfect. I could get away with a Large but it is so snug to the point where I feel that it may tear because at times it is so tight. It feels like a 2nd skin (the point of gloves lol) and since this is my first pair of motorcycle gloves I'd like to make sure I'm getting the right size.

So I guess compared to my work / utiity gloves I use to work on my truck, yard, etc which are all XL, would I want these gloves in a XL as well?

Cheers! -Rob

W S: Yes, I guess. The fingers are a little long and thin, and the glove is fairly elastic. That and the velcro strap allows for a good fit. Good luck! Aug 7, 2014

A shopper asked: I got these as a gift but am thinking of returning them. Here's my issue and hopefully someone can help out:
My hand size is 3 3/4 inches which means a L on this glove side but when I called I was told they fit big so I should order a M @ 3 1/4. Overall, the fit is pretty tight and when I take off the gloves, you see the marks of the stitching on my hand (fingers, and top of hand). Overall, not SUPER tight but tight enough. My main issue is with the fingertips portion. There seems to be extra thick stitching and it really digs into my tips. After 10 minutes of riding, it feels chafed and it burns. Overall, not a pleasant feel but I love the build and the overall glove. So.. will it break in and become soft, do I need another size/brand or do I put them in water and the wear them till they dry? (Note: See attached pic)

GrinningMouths: I experienced this with this glove as well. I ended up returning them due to poor fit and a few other issues. I can say that leather takes a few weeks to break in properly and that your issue might go away, though it sounds like your gloves might be on the tight side. May 12, 2013

Mattheikkila: I had the same issue trying them one large fit the best but because of the stitching I went with and XL. They still fit well but stitching doesn't dig in and I can ride without any issues with fit. May 9, 2013

Kasey B asked: Went for a ride and got my gloves soaked. What should I do? I am currently letting them dry naturally but I am unsure if I should be treating the leather so that it wont degrade the quality. Thanks Nov 10, 2014

Kerry J: It won't hurt the glove but will make them stiff for a while. They will loosen up in time! Nov 19, 2014
