ICON Rimfire Gloves

The Icon 1000 Rimfire is old-world styling, top-shelf materials and cutting edge technology. The Gunn cut pattern imbues the Rimfire with a sophisticated rancher silhouette of years gone by. Constructed of select drum-dyed French cowhide, the Rimfire embodies the meaning of functional elegance. Pre-tensioned elastic in the palm reduces bunching. Integrated D3O® knuckle armor and a cadre of metal palm rivets provide a roadworthy pedigree. The Rimfire is a riding glove that captures the fortitude and grace of a more civilized era.

Classy gloves. Retro good looks, modern protection I am fond of these gloves. It's difficult to replace a good pair of gloves, but I was recently forced to take the plunge when my previous favorites magically disappeared somewhere in Mexico.... I tried on many pairs and spent hours and hours shopping online. I'm really picky. I build bikes and sew leather seats and stuff, and I care a LOT about small details and quality craftsmanship, especially in my leather goods. I was specifically a shopping for a 3- seasons glove that was either brown or natural colored. I wanted a glove that was of leather construction with some modern protection yet retained a classic or retro look. I wanted a glove that was not too bulky and that appeared to be thoughtfully and intentionally well crafted. As I narrowed my selection from the ga'zillions of gloves out there in Internetland to my top three picks, these Icon 1000 Rimfire gloves (Natural/Tan Colored) kept coming up. I was attracted to their craftsmanship and how they would be a quality all-in-glove, equally at home on a sport bike, an adventure dual sport, or a 1970's cafe racer. When I finally was convinced that these were the best gloves for my needs, regardless of price, I then went on to shamelessly shop for the best price. Not suprisingly RevIlla once again had what i wanted at the best price anywhere. Now to balance this review a bit, I am quite fond of these gloves, but they're not perfect. There's some elastic sewn into the fingers on the inside, and while this is executed reasonably well, you can tell it's there, so the integration isn't perfect. And yet they remain very comfortable, and seem to become more so with continued regular use. Having said that, in the last month of ownership I've had three total strangers randomly compliment my cool gloves, which, to be completely honest, is utterly bizzar. I recommend these gloves. Time will prove their endurance, but I believe they're going to last for many many miles, and I'm please with the purchase. November 23, 2015
Be careful with the metal rivets First of all, I'd like to say I really like Icon. I usually don't like to complain or post negative reviews, but these gloves scratched my bar ends. I figured I should at least warn others as you'll only find this out by using them, and obviously, after you've used them they can't be returned. Besides the obvious issue caused by the metal rivets on the palms, I have some minor complaints. The grey color isn't as pictured. It's an odd bluish color. Also, for whatever reason, the left glove came in pristine condition while the right glove was a bit beat-up and had some cosmetic stitching issues. Nothing major. It's no secret that Icon can be really hit or miss with the build quality of their clothing. Another issue with this glove is the protection. It's pretty minimal. They're basically just leather gloves with some foam. Obviously these issues didn't bother me enough to return them outright since I decided to keep and use them. This is mostly because of how comfortable they are. Overall, even if they don't scratch your particular bike, I'd stay away. There are a lot of options in this price range of glove that offer better protection and are more consistent in their build quality, September 6, 2015
Looks good, feels comfortable I tried on the Small and the Medium, they are the same in length, just different in width. I went with the medium and they are fitting well. After getting wet from rain and sweat they start to shape to your hand better. These are some of the best looking gloves I found, they are padded well, and they are not too pricey. On some hot days they can get sweaty, as there isn't much ventilation, but nothing too bad. August 31, 2015
Saved my hands in a nasty fall Wore these gloves for about 8 months with no problems. Had a casual ride home from work turn into a nasty accident and basically hit asphalt hands and head first at about 50mph. Not a scratch on my hands and gloves are still functional, just a couple pulled threads and one of the metal bits came off, will continue to keep as a back up pair and may try another pair of Icons since these performed so well. Only thing that I think could be improved is the articulation but that kind of comes with this style of glove anyways so... Also your hands will freeze if your riding in sub 50f temps, but some glove liners with these were enough to handle the cold early morning commutes, even down to under freezing temps. Overall very happy with these gloves. August 27, 2015
Fantastic glove This is a fantastic glove for cruising around with. Not too many technical features in terms of knuclepads, but the D30 is great, flexible and definitely helps against little road bits. Not too confident in the levels of protection in an off situation, however, the Nomex reinforced steel riveted sliders should definitely save your palms from being eaten up. I bought the tan ones and they age really nicely as they start to get worn in and a little dirtier, I get compliments on these all the time. I have...interesting..hands, and most of the time mediums are too bit and leave the finger tips floppy and smalls are too tight and constrict the blood flow, but the smalls of these gloves are a perfect fit in accordance to the size chart. Looks cool, but does not hold up. These gloves are comfy and they look great! My only initial complaint was wanting the velcro to secure a little tighter around my wrists. Now the main issue is both the protection and durability. I wore them every day for about a year. I never went down, but the fingertips have worn paper thin and the D3O in the knuckles crumbled into tiny pieces. I has to make a slit in the stitching so that I could get the bits out because they had settled in the finger tips. The knuckle padding was just poor design, but I cant even buy it separately to replace it. The wear on the fingertips makes me seriously wonder how the rest of the leather would hold if I actually went down. Overall I'm pretty disappointed in them May 10, 2015
Super Comfy, Looks great! Excellent gloves, great fitting even though i have long fingers they still fit well Super comfy and the tan color looks great. February 23, 2015
Style, Comfort and Protection Excellent style and D30 protection. Gloves are midweight and without a doubt bad@** matched with the black Chapter jacket. I would definitely recommend these gloves to anyone. Only downside, the gloves fit a bit large for me (1/4"-1/8") in the fingers, but fit perfectly in width. I used liners underneath for cold weather protection and it gave me the snug feel I was looking for. December 25, 2014

A shopper asked: I am assuming that this glove does not have touchscreen compatibility since it was not specifically mentioned. It would be great if Icon who is using the Touchtec made nice gloves like these using that product. I use my phone as my MP3 player and GPS and it would be nice not to have to remove my gloves and put them back on to use it. Mar 5, 2012

TxDrifter: I was aware that the ICON Justice glove has TouchTec built in when I asked the question, but it is designed more for street/racing type use and conforms to that look as well. These are much nicer looking and I think might be more comfortable for long range cruiser applications which is the type of riding I do.

I am actually rather surprised that ICON did not choose to utilize TouchTec on these gloves considering the difficulty I am having finding any designed for use in the cruiser space. Even Harley doesn't have a pair yet.

Thanks for answering my question though.

Robert F.: Not surprising these gloves don't have touchscreen capability, but you might want to look into Thumb Dogs - they are essentially fingertip covers that can operate touch screens. Sep 10, 2012

A shopper asked: The reviews by customers say its a decent cold weather glove. Is it water-proof at all?
Jun 18, 2014

John O: No, it is not waterproof, but it could be treated to be waterproof. Since it is aerated it would only slow the penetration into the leather, but that is speculation since I have not tried it. It is a decent for temperatures down to about 50 degrees depending on your tolerance. I have worn liners under them at those levels, but anything below that and you are going to want a different glove. Jun 18, 2014

Philip J: Short anwser, no the Rimfire clove is not water proof.

It will handle LIGHT (with emphasis) rain just fine, but much more than that no.

A shopper asked: Using the size chart around the palm I get about 9" which places me in medium. I'd really like to double check this as I currently wear XL RST gloves and havn't gone below a Large size. I have fairly long thin fingers, I'm 6'0 tall, and from the tip of my middle finger to the bottom of my wrist where the crease is, it's 8 1/4 inches, if that helps. Thanks. Jul 2, 2012

RevZilla: Based on the measurements that you provided we would recommend the size Large as well. One of our Gear Geeks has the same measurements and he fits into a size large in these gloves. While he was also able to get the size medium on, it was very tight initially (it's possible that they could stretch out enough to be comfortable after a few hours of riding, but the Large was a much better fit).

We hope that helps. Please remember that if you ever have any questions about sizing that your Gear Geeks would be more than happy to help over the phone or via email as well.

krakensnackz: From the crease of my wrist/palm, to the tip of my middle finger, measures about 9-3/4". I wear an XL. I'm going to assume that a L would be most comfortable for you, as if anything, you'd prefer them to be a little loose, rather than too tight. Jul 5, 2012

StreetTripleR2012: Personally, I would go with one size up from what is recommended. I followed the chart and I wish I would have went one size up (chart said large when I should have went xl). The fit was tight for me. Hope this helps. Jul 3, 2012

ShadeTree: Whichever size you go with, keep in mind that these are real leather and so they stretch. When I first got mine they felt tight, and I was a smidge concerned. But now they are just perfect. Aug 26, 2012

Calli: My boyfriend has always needed a large in icon gloves. But with the icon rimfire 1000 he needs a medium. So it looks to me like these gloves are running large. Mar 19, 2013

Julian C asked: Just wanted to double check the size too, wrapping the tape measure around my palm just below my knuckles I gets 8 1/2" exactly, and from middle finger to wrist is 8 1/2 also. I'm thinking a large, but wanted to check first? Cheers Jun 18, 2015

Chad B: I went with the exact way the measuring instrustions said to do it and was very happy. I found the fingers very slight bit long at first but after a week or so they fit great.

Great item

Never got it (no matter how many times I clicked "resend email"), so resubmit using a different browser (twice). Same thing. Cedric B asked: The reviews say this glove sizes larger than average. My palm is about 8" wide so the size is supposed to be M but I have short fingers (7" palm height, 3" middle finger length) so I am tempted to go with a size S. I usually wear S for non-bike gloves (North Face, etc.) If you have similar hand/finger measurements can you tell me what size fits you? Jul 27, 2014

Philip J: I'm assuming when you measure your palm, It's from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger. If this is correct, my hand measures about the same as yours and a large fits me perfectly. Jul 27, 2014

Cedric B: Yes, I measured 7" from the wrist line to the tip of the middle finger, and 8" when wrapping the tape around the palm (just under the knuckles). Jul 30, 2014
David R: My experience is that the glove size was correct. I usually wear an XL and bought these in Xl. The fit was perfect for me. Aug 9, 2014
