Fieldsheer Adventure Tour Jacket 4.4 5 16 16
A very good and underrated product. The Fieldsheer Adventure Tour Jacket is a very well made product with beautiful design. The BMW red/blue/white combo is rivals even BMW's offerings. After one year of use I can attest to the quality of the build, everything still works like new, even the reflective material after a couple of washes. Durability is excellent, protection is fine too but as always yo can upgrade to better pads. Airflow is good at road speeds but not when off road, and I guess this holds true for most adv products. Very good looking jacket. Riding in coastal India, at about 28°C ~ 40°C (when it is not raining), this jacket is comfortable and keeps cool ONLY with all vents unzipped. And with heavy rains 22°C, keeps you dry in rain, but at this temperature, its sweaty inside, specially with the vents zipped and the rain liner on. (2 ~ 5 hrs of riding). Monthly rides to the hill stations, at about 20°C ~ 8°C, the jacket keeps you warm enough with the rain layer, but without the thermal layer. (5 ~ 6 hrs of riding). Excellent feel and build quality. Good Jacket, except.. Except the zipper on the liner.... I'm pretty happy with this jacket, I've worn in temps down to about 40F, if it's any colder than that, I just don't ride. The jacket is comfortable, and the protection is decent for most riders, with removable inserts in the shoulders and elbows, and back. There are also several snaps and buckles in the sleeves and sides to cinch in parts that may flap in the wind. It has some vents that you can zip up in the morning, then open for those warm afternoons. It has plenty of pockets, and generally looks good, not too radical, but not too basic. The liner is well connected to the shell, with zippers full length around the front/neck, as well around the cuffs. Possibly the best feature of this jacket isn't a feature at all, it's the fact that Fieldsher recognizes the fact that there are some larger men out there that like to ride, and offer sizes all the way up to 5x and tall sizes!! I wish that some more companies did this, but for now, I'll give Fieldsheer my money! The one major negative issue that I have is that there is 2 zippers, one for the liner (when you have it in), and one for the shell. The one in the liner consistently sucks the material behind it into the zipper. I have to yank the zipper back down to get it un-stuck. Do this over and over and you will understand my frustration. I am also afraid that this will fray the fabric, or pry apart the zipper mechanism, causing a durability issue. Despite this issue, I do reccomend this jacket for commuters and tourers that want to keep their bike on the road for a little longer in the fall, and take it out a little earlier in the spring, then go get a mesh jacket for the summer. Good Quality / Great Value This is only my second try at a textile jacket and the first one (a very cheap jacket) kept me away for more than a decade. I had to upgrade my leather jacket to a year round jacket since I decided to use my bike for commuting. So far, my commutes to work (20 highway miles each way) have been in weather between 40 and 65 degrees. The jacket is more than capable of handling temps down to 40 and is easily opened up and de-layered for use at the higher end of that range. First impression is this jacket will not be usable in the South Carolina summer heat/humidity as the venting is good but not necessarily great. The again, you can get heat stroke in a tee shirt during the summer around here...... I'm 6'2", 215 with a 46 chest and 38-40 waist. The 2XL fits near perfectly in the body/sleeves and will accommodate an additional layer for cold (nothing too thick though). Getting the Velcro on the removable collar to match up has been a little tricky but the collar provides good wind protection once you get it adjusted. All things considered, the jacket is comfortable, feels/looks to be of good quality, has ample adjustments to get the fit right, has plenty of pockets and is more than doing the job. Definitely a good bang for the buck that won't make you feel like you settled for what you could afford. January 28, 2016
Great jacket for the money. Measure well and be satisfied. I fit right on the edge of two sizes so mine fits slightly large - I addressed this with the many cinch straps around the arms and midsection to get a comfortable fit. I have ridden the jacket only a couple of times but so far it's been great. It has a lot of flexibility in layering with removable thermal and waterproof layer - and is a big upgrade in style, fit and armor from my older Kilimanjaro. I ride sport-touring in northern California and I'm looking forward to a lot of enjoyment from this jacket. December 14, 2015
Good overall and leaves some money in pocket Had this jacket for a year now. The good: generous cut in shoulders/back for those that lift weights, highly versatile can go from 25-90 degrees, with liner - good water proofing, many pockets - several waterproof pockets, professional styling, does not show much wear, big/bold reflective panels that look good day or night, great bang-for-buck. The not-so-good: Many liners can be a pain to take out / put in, liners are not good for wearing separately, neck liner is there, but still irritates the beard. Overall - a real 4-season jacket that can be worn to the office, or out and about, perfect for touring or all season commuting. November 27, 2015
Great features for this price point I was torn between this jacket and the Rev'It! Sand 2, but in the end I couldn't personally justify spending ~$200 more on the Sand 2 (including new back protector) when the Fieldsheer offers a lot of the same features. So far the construction seems very good, and the jacket vents well. It's not going to replace my mesh jacket for the summer, but I'm happy with it up to about 90 degrees F. The fit seems to be on the large side. I have a 40 inch chest and fit well into a size small. With both liners in the jacket is snug but not tight or uncomfortable. With the liners out the jacket is roomy. I haven't gotten to test it in very cold weather yet (it's still warm in Texas), but walking around the house with both liners in the jacket is extremely warm. November 9, 2015
Absurd sizing. Received, tried on, found the 4XLT jacket to be SMALLER than my 3XLT Joe rocket jacket. Found a similar jacket by BILT on the rack at cycle gear, tried it on, and it fit. Don't buy this jacket unless you are built like an anorexic athlete, it will be laughably small. November 6, 2015
