Dainese Theodore D-Dry Jacket 4.6 5 7 7
It's awesome! I'm 6', 180 lbs and have an athletic build. I ordered the jacket in a 54 and it fits perfect! Love it. It looks and feels awesome. Mind you, this is my first ever motorcycle jacket, so I can't compare it to anything. Just took my 675 out in 45 degree temp' and was absolutely comfortable with a t-shirt on underneath. 65-70 mph riding, windy. Def' don't buy for summer riding. This thing is WARM. FYI... I was in a motorcycle accident. 45 mph slide on my arms, shoulder and hands. The pain, you don't ever want to experience this. I work in construction. Never felt pain like that ever in my life. Will never ride without a jacket and gloves again, ever. Had my helmet on. Saved my skull. Thank God I was only half dumb. November 29, 2012
Great looks. Odd functionality Love Dianese in general - one of the few companies that seem to be making an effort to create protective motorcycle stuff that doesn't look like protective motorcycle stuff. I get that functionality requires certain things but saying it necessitates sacrificing form is just lazy in any industry. The Theodore looks awesome. One of few jackets that I'd feel comfortable wearing off the bike into an atmosphere that wasn't a bunch of riders (out to meet friends, dinner, work, etc....). I love that it's longer than most moto jackets (if you don't ride a sport bike, having a short coat doesn't seem to be a necessity and just makes you look weird off the bike so it's frustrating to me that so many coats are either short or awkwardly long like a touring jacket). The armor in the theodore seems to be standard Dianese. Well designed to appear low profile. Nothing chunky or bulging. Had a Rev' It airwave and the shoulders were super boxy looking and made the jacket something I'd never wear so I returned it. I really like the way Dianese does their elbow armor - it extends down the forearm quite a ways. A few things seem to be missing. There aren't any vents at all on the jacket. Underarm vents and something along the front would get the jacket higher into the temperature range. Also missing is a zipper to connect the jacket to pants. I realize the jacket isn't meant to be very technical but the zipper for pants seems like it'd be trivial to add and allows a rider who doesn't want to dress like a commuting motorcyclist to still be a commuting motorcyclist with a touch more style and with the safety of knowing their jacket wont ride up in a slide and will keep them drier in a downpour. Also of note is the collar. It's just bizarre. I'm not sure how Dianese arrived at the construction here but it's very wide and doesn't close around the neck at all. It allows a ton of air to circulate into the jacket which might be a nice feature if it were an intentional option and not something that you have no control over. The zipper also stops at the top of your sternum and because of the odd shaped loose collar, the flap allows air to flow here at speed. Not a great feature in a cold weather coat that's also meant to be waterproof. All in all, it's a great looking, protective coat with a weird collar and some oddly missing features. A couple tweaks and it could be a legitimate piece of motorcycle gear that ALSO looks awesome. November 28, 2012
Perfect jacket for those with understated style. I get tons of compliments on this jacket from those who ride (particularly girls on scooters) and tons of surprised post-hug reactions from friends/family when they realize I'm wearing an armored moto jacket. This thing is stylish. My favorite things? The tall collar, large armor coverage, lack of conspicuous logos and surprising weather resistance. My least favorite things? The material isn't the most confidence inspiring for high speeds. I've gone down in gravel at around 15mph and the forearm material tore easily. Fortunately, the elbow pads cover most of the forearm and and shoulder pads also have good coverage to make up for some of it. In short: this is an awesome jacket for day to day around the town riding hopping between cafes, clubs, bars, etc. Although I've worn it on longer tours and even some fire roads, I'd suggest something made from a more durable material. Great looking, warm This jacket looks good enough that I might wear it even when I'm not riding, with the protectors removed. I'm really happy with how it looks. Performance: Well, I haven't been in a crash with it yet (knock on wood), but the included shoulder and elbow protectors seem pretty solid, and the shell provides great wind protection. Sizing: I got the size 46, and I'm 5' 8" with a 35" chest, and it fits fine with the liner in. The chest is a little loose when the liner's out, but if I'd gotten the 44, the sleeves might have been too short. (Anyway, I couldn't find the 44 in stock anywhere.) March 27, 2012
Another great product from Dianese! This has to be the best "non sporty" looking protective jackets out there. You can literally where this jacket wherever you go and it does not look like a motorcycle/protective jacket at all. I was actually surprised by the sizing though. I weigh 168 and am 5'9 and ordered a 54 which i thought was going to be big on me given that the guy in the video was 6 something and weighed closer to 200 and was wearing a 54. I ordered it anyway because it was the only size that they had in stock in that gull grey and am very happy with the fit. I would say it runs a little small to the measurements given. Ive been riding around NYC in 30 degree weather with a small hoody underneath and I am not cold at all. This jacket is the best! January 3, 2012
I love this jacket. Since I live in the Philadelphia area, I came into the Revzilla showroom looking for a new winter jacket. I tried on a few including the Dainese Theodore. Unfortunately, I couldn't try on my size in this jacket because it wasn't in stock. I tried on a size smaller just in case and was amazed at the comfort, warmth, and style. I told the salesperson that if they had had my size in the Theodore in stock, I would have bought it but instead left with a different jacket. That night, as I was sitting at home, I realized I would regret it if I didn't order the Theodore. I came back the next day to exchange it and found that my size had just come in that day. For the next few days I left my car at work and rode around in my new favorite jacket. The liner in this jacket is so cozy comfortable, it is unbelievable. Anyone looking for a cold weather jacket is doing themselves a disservice if they don't try this on. I constantly get compliments on how great the jacket looks. One common comment is that people wouldn't even know it was a motorcycle jacket if I didn't just get off my bike. This is not the jacket for people who want to be flashy and conspicuous - it is slick and understated. My only (slight) gripe with the jacket is that the collar lets some airflow in the top. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this jacket. It makes riding in chilly weather much more comfortable. October 23, 2011
excellent you can wear off the bike. great fit. good for cold weather. September 12, 2011

The pictures show what appears to be a sweatshirt like cuff at the wrists, but in the video it is not there. Did they ditch the cuffs on the production models?

In the video it looks like more of a lighter grey as opposed to the product image which resembles a darker almost charcoal grey.

Answer:
The Dark Gull Grey is the one from the video. It is a little lighter and has a bit more sheen in person than Dainese's pictures of the jacket, but that could just be dependent on the light hitting it.

I am looking for a jacket that can take me to the depths of the winter, that I could walk around in AND not kill my bank acct. I don't see myself out an about when the weather hits below 10 degrees F, that being said with appropriate layers I am looking for a jacket to keep me warm enough that riding in 20 degree weather does not mean that when I get off my bike I'm an ice icicle.

Answer:
Not sure it would be the best option for 20degree weather. It would probably be fine into the low 50's on a bike but not much more than that in our opinion.

Answer:
If you order a large enough size, you could probably layer enough under it to make it work, but the baggier you go with this jacket the worse it'll look when it's not winter. I wore a thin down jacket (similar to those thin Patagonia puffy coats) under mine (in addition to the included down liner) during Seattle's last winter and was fine in temperatures down to 30° on my 8 mile freeway commute. Not sure I'd go any longer distances with it though. If you're riding in temperatures colder than that, maybe it's time to invest in some heated gear?

Elbow and shoulder protection. Also has a pocket for a back protector. Dianese elbow protection is great in that it extends quite far down the forearm.

Answer:
I wear it in Seattle year round. For shorter rides in the rain, it'll resist the weather okay. If you're doing any more than 15 miles each way and it's coming down, I'd suggest a stronger rain layer. Since we rarely deal with (below) freezing temperatures, it's plenty warm if you layer under it. I wear the included down liner and thin down jacket with it and have been plenty warm on my morning commutes.

Answer:
It's not made completely clear, but when Dainese says that it has "composite protection," followed by numbers and letters... It is referring to it's elbow and shoulder protection.

You also asked about rain and cold. I have a D-Dry paint and jacket system that I love, but if I know that it's gonna be a rough weather day, I reach for the Revit gear in the closet. Revzilla sells this stuff, they also have some pieces from Held and Klim. It's all great stuff, but the Revit is generally less expensive than the rest with the same quality. Look under their Adventure Rider category to find this stuff.
