Dainese Air-3 Textile Jacket 4.6 5 40 40
Great Summer jacket This jacket is better than the air flux with the Velcro . I just hate Velcro on the neck. Thus jacket uses a button snap on the top with is a lot more comfortable Flows tons of air I'm 5 10, 185lbs, 40 inch chest. I got the size 50 and fits good. I could go to a 48 if I really want a tight snug fit but for a mesh jacket is all about comfort and light so why be so snug right.. If you really want protection. Go for leather. Perf leather Armors are top grade and fit and finish are very good as well Recommend it yes December 7, 2014
This jacket is the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament Champion This jacket got me through August in Texas. In the summer I never had a problem being too hot as long as I was moving. But being the only riding jacket I own I had to layer a rainproof windbreaker underneath when the temps dipped into the 30s during an unseasonably cold week in November. Worked ok. Wouldn't suggest it as a permanent solution but it can be done in a pinch for short rides. I haven't given the protective qualities a thorough field test, so I can't speak to them, the but build quality is very good. On par with the other high end outdoor gear I have. The only annoyance I've had is that the elbow armor pads can make it tricky to put on a backpack. The straps tend to get hung up on the pads as I put my arms through. Then again, thats a problem I'm guessing most armored jackets will have (or I need to refine my technique) so I'm not counting it as a knock. Overall I've been very happy with my decision to pick this up! November 22, 2014
Air Flow!! Literally see through, best for hot weather!! comfortable November 17, 2014
Best textile jacket I've ever owned! From the moment I took it out of the box I knew I had made the right choice. I'm 5'10" 154 lbs, ordered a size 50 and fits great. Feels light, air goes through just as it should and the style is what I like the most. Very comfortable jacket. I might order another one. November 14, 2014
Good flow for not being naked. In any weather that's over say 80 degrees (and especially in the 90 and 100 degree weather we get here in Austin) it's much preferred to be naked while flying down the street, but if you want to keep your skin I'd say this jacket is one of the best and coolest for the job. Multiple layers of mesh mean you don't feel the full force of the wind as you would were it slapping against your bare arms, but the flow is excellent even at lower speeds. During the summer my commute has, until now, been either jacketless or in a perforated leather Dainese. One is not smart and the other had me wringing out my t-shirt once I arrived. Having geared up with this I was very pleasantly surprised that I was completely dry, if a bit warm, even after motoring through town at low speeds for an hour. A helpful Revzillan (Revzillite?) suggested I go a size smaller than my usual as this particular jacket tended to run a bit large. He was right and a 50 versus my usual 52 fits bang-on. Flows a Lot of Air! The Dainese Air-3 exceeds my expectations when it comes to air flow as well as lightness and style. I own several Dainese jackets and have been happy with all of them. The fit of the Air-3 is true to size. I am 5'10" 170 lbs and ordered a size 50. Protection is adequate for a jacket as minimal and lightweight as the Air-3. My only complaint is the sleeve length. Unlike my other Dainese jackets the sleeve length of the Air-3 is a little short by approximately one inch. I live in the Piedmont area of NC/SC and it not only gets hot here, the humidity can be high as well. I would highly recommend the Air-3 to anyone looking to battle high temps and high humidity. First jacket While obviously this jacket doesn't offer as much protection as a full leather, I feel that it offers quite a bit for a summer season jacket. Especially considering the amount of air-flow this jacket gives I am quite pleased. September 8, 2014
Extremely Lightweight with good Armor Great summer jacket. If I had to find any complaint, it would be that it could breath a bit more in the arms? September 8, 2014

J A: good reviews Dec 12, 2014
Dennis O: I was considering the alpine stars GP-2 plus air (or something like that) and read that the build quality was sub par. I would believe it too as the quality of Astars has decreased significantly over the low end of their products. Anyways, I just got paid and decided to raise my budget. Hoping for a jacket to last me a bit. Oct 25, 2014

S I: Really nice looking jacket, figure-hugging and cool in summer. I am 6'1" and 85kg and I bought size 50. Fits well but probably could have gone a size up. Very happy with the purchase. Oct 18, 2013
Henry J: Needed a new summer jacket, so I pulled the trigger based on Dainese quality, styling and customer positive reviews. Sep 19, 2013
A shopper asked: I noticed their connection system is not advertised on this jacket. I was just wondering if it is possible to zip Dainese pants to this. Jan 8, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
RevZilla: No, the Dainese Air-3 Textile Jacket does not come with a connection zipper. If you are looking for a Dainese jacket that offers a connection zipper, I would recommend you to look at the Dainese Spedio D-Dry, the Dainese Air-Frame, or the Dainese Shotgun Jackets. Jan 9, 2013

Diego Lorenzo J asked: Is there a removable liner here for the chillier early mornings to work? Aug 20, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Gevork G: No removable liner. This is strictly a light weight mesh jacket. Awesome for the scorching heat, but terrible for cooler temperatures.

The best way I can describe it is, the mesh sort of acts as an air conditioner. The cold air runs thru and thru.

Mornings in LA are cool again (about 65 F). I've already switched to by leather Dainese.

Hope this helps!

D. Archibald S: It does not have a liner of any kind. This is a strictly summer jacket. I live in Washington, DC and its always hot here in the summer. The first day I wore it, it felt like I wasn't wearing anything. I moved over my back protector from my other Dainese jacket and it fit perfectly. Aug 21, 2013
Miguel D: This jacket does not come with a liner. It is very free flowing for hot weather days. I bought the jacket in June so haven't had a chance to ride in cooler weather with it yet but would imagine you would need a warming layer underneath for chillier days. Aug 21, 2013

A shopper asked: Does using a G2 back protector add any size to the jacket? (will it make the jacket tighter?) May 24, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
David S: Hi
Adding the g2 "shield air" back protector does make the jacket quite a bit tighter. I'm 5'10 170lbs i ordered a size 52 in the air-3 jacket according to the size chart i should be a size 50. With the back protector in and only a t-shirt the jacket is a little snug " mainly in the chest area" but comfortable, sleeve length is prefect. If i were to order it again i might have even gone with a size 54. I would recommend to anyone ordering this jacket with shield air G2 back protector to go at least one size up maybe even two sizes if the want more room.
Hope this helps.

Ivan M: Well, more rigid yes, but not tighter. It's a light well made jacket. You loose a little ventilation, but it's really like wearing a mosquito net from a jacket, so... no worries. you should get the G2 back protector. You never know when you gonna need it!
Hope it helps

A shopper asked: How comfortable is this jacket? I had tried the Air-Flux Textile, which was light and fits good but was very uncomfortable. Mainly, the zipper for the elbow inserts do not have a cover and end up scratching your skin. Does this jacket have a similar problem? May 19, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Yarold B: I've never had this problem. It was very comfortable and fit very well. Sadly, this jacket was cut off of me in a very bad wreck. I can attest that it did it's job very well. It's one of the reasons I am still alive today. If you do decide on this jacket, get the back protector. It's worth the extra money. May 19, 2014

A s: I had an Air-2 and now have an Air-3. The fit and finish are incredibly good. I'm not in front of mine now but I'm. It aware of any issue with the elbow armor pockets or zippers - it's invisible as far as I can tell. It's by far the best highly-ventilated summer jacket I've ever seen or used. The -3 is a slight improvement over the -2 because the side adjustment is snaps instead of Velcro. I haven't seen the Flux jacket but I assume it's just a somewhat cheaper, lower end version. I love the Air Tex!

karamjit s asked: how does this compare to air flux? Is armor held by velcro or part of jacket ? Aug 31, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Steven B: It's part of the jacket. I did have to buy the turtle shell back protector extra. For me. I love the jacket. It's hot as hell in Houston and as long as I am moving it stays cool. Aug 31, 2014

MARCIO B: With regard to the flow of air is well ventilated and is not too hot at the time of use. I bought to use in the summer. Recommend.

The armor is by velcro

Seth P asked: Hey,
I'm 6'1" or 6 foot, 37.6 chest, and 25.5inch arm. . . Should I go for arm length and get the largest size for 25inch arms or just get a size 50? Am I just super lanky or what?
Jul 13, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Joel H: Seth,
I'm sorry but I don't think I'm going to be your best bet at getting a great answer to this question. This is my first motorcycle jacket and until I tried it on in the revzilla store in Philly I did not even know my size (5'10" 190# 34" waist & jacket size 52). The guy in the store (and I'm guessing revzilla's online help too) was really good at talking me through what to look for in a jacket (snug around the abdomen, comfortable when arms are in the riding position not by your side, etc.). As far as this jacket goes, it is much more comfortable then the Dainese that is just a bit cheaper than this model, it is cool enough for riding in Texas heat and comes with shoulder, elbow and forearm pads. Long story short: I love this jacket and think it would be best to get one that fits your arm length and hopefully is snug around the belly.
Hopefully this was helpful.

Miguel D: I'm 5'9" 175lbs, wear 16-32/33 in dress shirts, a 40R in suits and ordered a 50. It fits close to the body but not tight and the arms go down to my wrists with just enough slack to not pull back when I move my arms.
Let me know if you have more Qs or need pics.

ERIC H: The "best" fit will be the Dainese Air Shield G. I have also heard the Forcefield back protector will fit (have not tried myself) but will not be as good of fit as it was not designed specifically for this jacket. Sep 23, 2014

A shopper asked: Hi,
I am hesitating between a Dainese Air-3 and a Super Speed.
I am riding a Ducati MS1200 in a usually 90 degres 85% humidity environment.
I am worried Super Speed is short in air flow and worried Air-3 falls a bit short in protection for longer rides.

What do you recommend ?

With my thanks

Henry J: The Air-3 flow will depend on how loose or tight your fit. With high humidity it may not provide enough flow. The protection in this type of jacket is light weight...recommend using a good back protector. Also...buy the lightest color available for better cooling. Feb 10, 2014
Reply to Henry Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
D. Archibald S: I don't know much about the super speed, but I'm very comfortable with the dianese on any length ride. Washington DC's very hot and humid in the summer and it is my go to jacket. Feb 12, 2014
A shopper asked: Does this jacket have a pocket for a thorax protector? Feb 28, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The Dainese Air-3 Textile Jacket does not contain a chest protector pocket. However, a standalone chest protector such as the Dainese Thorax Pro Chest Protector is a nice alternative for someone looking to add chest protection to this jacket. Mar 1, 2013

Marcio40: There is no chest protector for this jacket.
There is only the guard column.

RevZilla: The Dainese Air-3 Textile Jacket does not have a belt loop attachment. For piece of mind, the belt attachments are not effective anyway as they tend to release quite easily, especially on impact. Feb 19, 2013

SIZING INSTRUCTIONS

We highly recommend finding a cloth tape measure and taking the time to take these measurements. Dainese sizes will not necessarily correlate with fitment in other brands.

  • Chest: Measure from under/top of armpit across chest to under/top of other armpit, then across back to first armpit
  • Waist: Measure at the hourglass of your torso, (circumference measured at your belly button)
  • Hips: pelvic bone to pelvic bone, the widest part of your hips below the waist
  • Inseam: from crotch to big ankle bone
  • Outseam: from waist to big ankle bone
  • Gloves: Using a flexible measuring tape, measure around your hand, behind the knuckles, not including the thumb.
