Cardo Scala Rider G9x Headset
Use With Ear Buds
I had the G9 version but was disappointed with the audio quality, namely the volume level. I also did not like that I could not wear ear plugs anymore because I would not be able to hear the sound. The new G9X addressed both of those issues for me with the versatility to where ear buds for both sound clarity and hopefully sound noise protection. I still installed the speakers but I don't think I will ever use them. Now with the ear buds, I don't even have to have the volume at the maximum level anymore. The G9X has a lot of features, like the G9, but I probably won't use most of them. Because of this, the functionality of the unit is not too complicated. Just read the manual and familiarize yourself with the product. It starts to be intuitive once you use it. Overall the unit is a high quality piece and I feel like it can withstand any weather conditions I ride in. I would recommend it-with ear buds.

I purchased the g9x this spring, riding with friend is much easier with this device! I had some issues with sound quality and volume, but I swapped the provided speakers with a set tracks hd's and the sound is clean. I would recommend this product with alternate speakers~

The 9x is much improved over my previous "4". It is easier to use because of the additional button and where it is placed. The two ridges added to separates the buttons make it much easier to find the correct buttons with you gloves on.
I really like the feature that when your buddy is out of intercom range it defaults to the cellphone and calls them. When one of us takes a wrong off ramp, we don't play hide and seek any more.
Sound volume is improved, quality is as good as you're going to get without going to inner ear inserts.
I don't usually ride with more than one other so can't speak to the 1+8 feature.
The new boom Mike setup for modular helmets is a great improvement.
Not sure about quality at this point. Lost connection on one speaker recently but it came back...hmmm. In the past they have been very efficient with warrantee claims...(the old boom mikes used to break off after a few thousand miles of windage stress.)
Can now connect to my cell and iPad or GPS simultaneously which although it sounds over the top,mis actually useful and handy.
I never ride without it.

Too many features for my old brain to figure out. This is much harder than programming my VCR.
It works great in the driveway. As soon as we get on the road, I can no longer communicate with the other bike. When we stop as a stoplight, I pull up next to the other bike, open my face shield and try to talk to him, the Scala says "Ok. Radio on." Then it blasts loud static into my ears.
The buttons are too difficult to operate with gloves on.
The right earphone only works sometimes. It is often crackley.
Maybe eventually I will be able to get the darn thing to work, but right now it is an endless source of frustration.

Own the G9. Upgraded to the G9x. Nice improvement. Only issue I have with it, is they have too many buttons. Wish they could make it simpler. Great Volume, Great Battery life, Nice FM radio reception. Pretty easy computer interface (won't work on Mac unless you have PC emulator of some sort).

In direct contrast to what others have said, I don't find sound quality to be bad on this. I had a G9 previously, and the G9x sounds markedly better to me. Of course, you're not going to get excellent sound quality when you're blasting it over wind noise and wearing ear plugs, but I can clearly hear what I'm listening to, so it works for me!
My G9 was lost in a crash when it popped off the helmet dock. So seeing that the G9x added a locking tab to hold it in place was nice.
It's not the easiest to use. Once it's working, it's fine, but I never seem to be able to get these things to pair properly. I've only ever used Cardo headsets though, so I don't really have much to compare to, unfortunately.

This product is made to be used on motorcycles! The speakers are weak, and whenever turned up loud enough to hear the treble is painful! If you're planning on listening to music, don't even think about it. If you've got a silent moped or something where you might not have to turn the sound up very loud then you might be okay, but on my GSX-R, the sound is terrible. Also, I've got an Icon Airframe helmet if it makes a difference.

Good communications device
Good stereo play from mobile phone. Easy to use. Excellent call quality. AGC can get a bit loud at speeds over 50. Haven't had the chance to link bike to bike and hope it's not an issue.
