Cardo Scala Rider G9x Headset
best bang for your buck
I have had this product for 1 year. I wanted to give you guys a honest review now that the luster has worn off.
First I rate the Cardo Scala Rider G9x Headset as far above average of all the blue tooth setups I have ever used. Ease of install/setup and cleaning is really easy.
Charging is easy and hassle free. Removing the modular takes no time. After 1 year the battery lasts hours I recharge once a week and I ride daily around 2 hours a day.
I have had the unit die on a ride do to my fault but charged it with an USB external battery pack while riding.
I have considered buying one more unit for my girlfriend to use.

G9x has great features
Pairing with multiple G9 riders the first time is very aggravating. We have four riders and I being the newest when pairing took forever.
Once paired, the G9 works flawlessly. Reading the directions four or five times shouldn't be the norm. Luckily one of our riders must comprehend better than I do.
When riding solo I am able to listen to music, however I don't recommend this.
One will most likely buy a ridged boom as the flexible boom will have to be tape to the inside of your helmet area on your ear strapping.
I have not tried the modular helmet yet. I am sure this will be an adventure.
Overall when riding with others, this is a must have.

Not Well Suited For Modular Helmets
I've had my g9x for about 2 months. Overall the system works well, but because I have a modular helmet I must use the included boom mic which fell apart within about 3 weeks. I bought a replacement boom mic and this time I used gaffers tape to hold the mic assembly in place, hopefully it will stay together this time. I bought my g9x to use when I ride with a friend who has had one for a bit over 1 year, unfortunately his g9x completely failed last week and I don't think he's going to buy another.

Great sound and durability
I abuse electronics. I don't use headsets for talking to other bikes. I use them for bluetooth for Garmin and IPhone6s. I have done 600 miles offroad with this new G9x and I love it. It is plenty loud, even with earplugs. On the road I really like the mic operated volume control when speed increases. Really easy for using the FM radio controls and answering the phone. My phone and GPS connect to it seamlessly. I will probably buy another instead of reinstalling it on other helmets. Good purchase.

learning curve , one Scala kept falling off, connection very bad replaced new one - crackling sound not great
We bought a pair together , after learning how to use it properly it was okay, but One of them never fit properly in its holder and kept loosing its connection , and also we had wrap an elastic around it so it would l=not fall off while we were driving , after it feel off twice. lucky we found it on the road . we had to replace this one in the middle of long road trip as there ended up being no connection , the new one we bought would for no good reason get very crackly that I could not comprehend what my husband was saying for 10 minutes or so and then return to normal . Mine never had any problems. I am not sure what is going on with the other one .

Pretty good sound, clear calls, fit great on Icon airframe
First time owner of one of these Bluetooth headsets. Got the scala cause my friend has one and my skullcandy snowboard helmet speakers crush my ears do to being too thick.
So far its been great for the commute to work( I have yet to ride with him since purchase) Although it lacks bass tones, the sound is good enough for me. I'm excited to just have tunes. They have good clarity in the mid to upper range. Audiophiles may have a problem with the sound quality though. Definitely loud enough. Received a few phone calls, and my friends can't believe I'm on my bike. They say the sound clarity is great.
Installation is pretty straight forward. You just have to anticipate where the wires will go, that's what took the most time. About 40min total including opening the package. (This kit will fit a lot of different helmets) The clamp works on my icon airframe helmet and the speakers are thin so your head doesn't get crushed. Overall, a great fit. I did have to tuck a few wires to get a clean install.
Setting it up was easy. Learning all the functions is another story... It does a ton of stuff. Works great with the phone. Don't bother with the app though, just set it up on online when you register it.
Oh, and if you like to rock out in your helmet, turn off the voice commands, I ended up going from phone to fm radio, to off, and then back to fm radio. You can setup your fm presets online after registration as said above.
