Transitions quick but not dark enough
This visor will be great for those who don't like dark visors or ride in the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest.

If your like me and like dark visors and ride in the early evening or morning when the sun is lower in the sky you will be very disappointed.

It transitions quickly into tint but only reaches at light smoke at best. If you're ever riding into the sun it is hardly better then a clear shield and doesn't compare to a dark smoke tint.

See my photos for a comparison to dark smoke.

Take the plunge!
Finally took the plunge and bought the visor. Works awesome. Yeah, my Bell dark smoke is darker, but when you look in your mirror you can barely see your face through the shield... plenty dark enough. You never even notice it changing on you... very subtle. Just buy it! I keep my dark visor in my bag, but I have yet to switch it out, and THAT'S THE POINT!!!

Skeptic Turned Believer
Does anyone really need one more review on this amazing faceshield? I doubt it. But here's mine anyway. The hardest part is convincing yourself that you're not a fool for dropping over a $100.00 on a faceshield. Once you take a deep breath and hit that purchase button, take some comfort in the knowledge that if the thing didn't work, people would be lining up with flaming torches and pitch forks demanding refunds and crying fraud! This shield is pretty darn cool.

It supposedly has an anti-scratch (haven't had to test that yet) and nutra-fog coatings. I noticed on this cool morning's ride into work, while stopped at a light, the shield started to blur ever so slightly but nothing close to the fogging and "sweating" I've experienced on other shields. You can, of course, use the notched tab on the shield to crack it open if needed and it firmly snaps into place leaving you with about a quarter-inch of air flow. But there's also a lever on the left side where the shield connects to the helmet that allows you to crack open just a hair at the bottom left side of the shield (pretty fancy) or "lock" the shield closed. This isn't unique to the Transition shield but still a cool feature. I can already see that coming in handy when riding in the rain.

Of course, the real reason anyone buys this shield is the Transitions lens technology. It truly works as described. Today's ride was completely overcast but the lens still tinted to a level where my face was somewhat difficult to see while looking at myself in my mirrors. The view out was clear and I would have sworn the lens had no tint at all. I actually checked twice during the ride because I thought there's no way there's any tint. There was. I'm looking forward to seeing how dark it will get in direct, cloudless sunlight.

I park in an underground parking structure. Whereas with my other helmet's dark smoke shield I would have to flip it up for clear view, I was able to keep this shield closed and had no trouble seeing as the lens slowly began to clear. It's definitely not an instantaneous clearing but it worked well and I'm definitely sold on this shield. If you really want the look of a mirrored or super dark shield, then this probably isn't the shield for you. But if you want to do away with the hassle of changing out shields whether as a result of a change in weather, a late night at the office, or a long weekend ride that takes you past sunset, this is a great investment.

A Must Have!
The Photochromic face shield is a 'must have' for any motorcycle rider. There are a couple of points to keep in mind though... Going from clear to full tint is not instantaneous. It takes about a minute to achieve full tinting. Under normal riding conditions, this is not an issue. However, going from full tint to clear, takes a few minutes. When approaching a dark tunnel, the rider may need to raise the visor for optimum vision.

Worth it
I'm a new rider and figured I would get all my gear at once. This piece is an excellent add for my Bell helmet. Adjusts well for changing lighting conditions. Do note that the vizor will not black out completely but I'm not about total darkness. You buy this and you will not squint unless you're looking directly at the sun. Very cool product, superior functionality for a Florida rider. No regrets for spending the money on this investment.

This visor works!
I brought this visor for the crazy Australian sun. Works as intended and is incredibly durable! Does not easily scratch like lots of visors. Once you move under uv light the change is instant and i would 100% recommend this instead of solid black visors

Great all around face shield
I commute to work during the evening and head home early in the morning. The shield becomes dark enough in bright sunlight to the point that the sun no longer bothers you and almost completely obscures your face. Not saying you can stare directly in to the sun and not expect partial/permanent blindness, but it'll give you just that right bit of comfort. I had my doubts on getting this shield as I usually ride with mirrored shields, but I came away thoroughly impressed!

Pricey but worth every single penny.
When my old helmet was past its prime I decided to switch to a Bell RS1. I knew the transitions shield was an option for the RS1 but initially decided against it based on price. Before ordering the helmet, I gave some more thought to ordering the transitions shield along with it and came to the conclusion that I spent much more on damaged and lost shields over the lifetime of my current helmet when I was juggling two (clear & dark smoke). This meant the price of the transitions shield wasn't so excessive over the long term so I decided that I'd give it a try. I was prepared to be "underwhelmed" with the shield because few things live up to the hype these days. I was willing to call it a success if I could "make do" with one shield.

I had my doubts before I tried it but I was wrong. Very wrong, The transitions shield does everything they say it does. It's crystal clear at night and and changes (rapidly) to a dark smoke in full sun, No more "two shields" for me !

It's strange, but I don't really notice "the change" at all. In fact, the 2nd or 3rd day I had it I was wondering if it was working at all. In bright sunlight I was at a stop light, saw my reflection in a truck window, and noticed that the shield looked almost black, yet inside the helmet all I noticed was that the light seemed fine. What I notice most is that "I don't notice". When riding with this shield the light just always seems like "the right light". It's never too dark at night, nor do I ever squint in bright sun.

If you're tired of the inconvenience of carrying two shields, tired of losing or scratching "the other one", and want one single shield to be the "right one" day or night I recommend the transitions shield. Yes it's pricey, but in my opinion it's worth it.

Transitions feature works very well
I love this product. When I was shopping around for a new helmet, I actually chose a Bell (chose the RS-1, love it) solely being that the SolFX was made exclusively for Bell helmets.

I was really excited to try this lens, and I have to say, it met all my expectations. I'm very happy with it. The anti-fog works well, and the transition feature works quickly and functions great. It's definitely pricey for a shield, but well worth it.

I can't imagine going back to carrying spare shields with me and swapping them out at the end of the day.

Bell helmets cost more but they have saved my life on more than 1 occasion. I've split a Bell straight down the middle like an eggshell after bouncing my head down the road at 60+ mph, but I was fine. Will always spend more for Bell helmets and products. Apparently, this visor is made by Oakley and I can attest to their durability too. Dave McMath, Granite Falls, WA

It's nice to only need one face shield. no need to carry a clear one just in case you are out after dark.
Anthony W on Apr 29, 2016
Best Faceshield I ever bought!!! Only trouble is when you're entering tunnels during the day, it doesn't have time to lighten up and darken again. Also, if you break the small tab on the side, it won't seal on your helmet properly. Other than those two reasons, it's great!!
BoyBastos on Apr 25, 2016
I bought this shield to use with my Vortex. It works good and the transition is quick. My one gripe is that it doesn't get as dark as id like for extreme sun situations. But i don't think thats a bell issue really. Id recommend this product.

Roger M on Apr 3, 2016
Have used auto darkening glasses and liked how they worked. Thought I would try the shield on my Bell Helmet. Excellent choice. The shield will work as a visor in the bright sun as it get's really dark. Don't worry you are still able to see through it. Only issue I have is fogging in the cool mornings and it's not the visor, but the helmet not having a notch to keep the visor open just the right amount.

NO need to carry around a second shield. This is so perfect, definitely worth the money. Changes in sunlight and returns clear at night. Perfect. On cloudy days, it dims slightly enough to keep the brightness down just enough to see perfectly.

I purchased this visor with my Bell RS1 and it fogged right away on its first use and still fogs up. Could it be defective?
A shopper on Jan 18, 2012
BEST ANSWER: It is possible... I had a Star that came with a defective anti-fog. One drop of water and the whole thing crystallized (would have been a nightmare if it was while riding). My Bell Shields will fog (more of a weird haze than true fog. Simply vent for a second to clear but if it is nearing opaque it is either defective or you just have no venting at all (can cause any shield to get fogged or impaired). Make sure to NEVER use regular lens cleaner on the anti-fog side of the shield or its done.
Will the Bell Transitions SolFX Photochromic Face Shield fit on the Bell RS-1 Emblem Hi Viz Helmet?
A shopper on Sep 15, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Yes! The Transitions SOLFX Photochromic shield fits - The Star, RS1 and Vortex helmets! All 3 helmets share the same exact face shields! I love this shield and recomend it highly! Enjoy never changing shields ever again!
Is it okay to clean the outside of the shield with Plexus?
A shopper on Oct 20, 2011
BEST ANSWER: I wouldn't. The manufacturer specified warm water and mild soap only and that's what I use. Plexus is a windshield cleaner - likely to include chemicals that could strip off the inside anti-fog coating.

I've never had anything on the shield that warm water and mild dish soap, like palmolive or joy etc didn't easily remove if I give the warm water a little time to soften it up (like bugs).

Also, take seriously the recommendation to avoid paper towels - paper towels will slowly scratch the shield coating.

And NEVER try and clean it or wipe something off it when it's dry.
Hi .im considing buying one of these but wonder how it will work with my transtion lenses on my glasses or should i say how will my glasses work with the face sheild, will i get the added darkness with both shield and my glasses when the sun is in front of me?
thankyou,
Luke
2010 Yamaha R6
A shopper on Oct 20, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I too have transition lenses in my glasses. The shield blocks the UV rays from hitting your glasses so they will not turn darker. But the shield gets really dark during very sunny days and you will have no trouble seeing in direct sunlight. And if you happen to go into a tunnel when the shield is black.....it will quickly lighten in just a few seconds so that you can see again.

It's a great shield and I wouldn't trade it for anything. A definite plus to have because you won't have to carry 2 shields if you are out all day and get back after dark. I highly recommend this product!!!
Will this fit the Bell Revolver?
A shopper on Feb 27, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The Bell Photo chromatic Shield will fit the Bell Revolver. It can be a little fussy in the attachment phase, but it will fit just fine if you are patient. I don't know why this is, for the original shield will pop on and off in seconds. There must be some minor variation in the detents on the shield that make this more difficult than it has to be.
Hi. It,s well known thr transitions performance in day light, but how is it in the night? The photochromic festure reacts fast enough to the lights of the cars when in road?
Julian Andres C on Jul 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Hi Julian, got about three weeks with this shield and i commute 100 miles round trip every day. I ride to work in the afternoon and come back at night. I've been out on sunny days and cloudy days and the shield always feels perfect and at the right amount of "tint". The fact that i don't need to wear sunglasses while riding is awesome. At night it feels just like the clear oem whithout any distortions or glare from headlights. I would highly recommend it! Revzilla's shipping was fast as usual...pull the triggern you won't regret it!
Dennis
I am wondering if it goes all the way black like the sun visor shields - that would be a problem as where I live blacked out sunshields (or windshields for that matter) are illegal. And it's really sunny here too.
A shopper on Feb 4, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The shield does not get really dark. It's a light smoke and helps reduce that drastic bright sun and glare. If you wanna make it darker just wear sunglasses also and it will be just right. I wear sunglasses with mine and its perfect! Hope this helps your choice.
Will this visor fit any other helmets besides bell?
A C on Jan 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This shield is a Bell factory shield. I found a statement of details about this shield that read "Compatible only with the Bell Star, RS-2, Revolver, and Revolver Evo ." That is the best answer I can provide you without contacting Bell. Good luck.
What is the black plastic piece on the side of the shield for?
A shopper on Apr 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: On Bell Star helmets, there is a lever on the left side that can lock and seal the face shield when pushed one way or crack the face shield to increase circulation when pushed the other way. The black plastic piece is what the lever grabs or pushes against to accomplish this.
I don't know how to get rid of the fog. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
A shopper on Oct 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Clean the shield on the inside with dish washing liquid and water so it is very clean. Any tiny particles of dirt, dust, or grease from fingerprints will form a base for fog to form. A spray of isopropyl alcohol before you go out will make it super-clean and should not damage the shield.
Use the breath diverter that came with the helmet and never touch the inside of the shield with anything. When you slow down open the visor a crack to allow air to circulate. When you stop open the visor fully.
If none of this works use antifog.
