This thing is a truly awesome piece of technology that works exactly as advertised. When compared to my stock visor indoors, I would swear that the Transitions visor is actually slightly MORE clear. The transition from low to bright light is subtle but relatively quick, to the point that I didn't even notice the change. I thought it was defective until I popped my visor up and realized that it was simply exceeding my expectations!
Of course, the price is pretty steep for something that is ultimately not entirely necessary. That being said, if the price isn't an issue for you--stop thinking and buy it!

Great visor doesn't get as dark as dark smoke but very close and the clarity is better its as if the visor is polarized. IMO better overall clarity than a dark smoke and Soooo convenient.

This shield is just perfect!
It was one of the reasons that made me bought the bell star matte carbon and it's beyond expectations.
It ranges from crystal clear to "medium" smoke (you can still see the overall shape of the face). The transition is fast, the quality of vision is high and the fog treatment works great (same level as a Shoei X twelve visor with pin lock)

Gone are the days of carrying multiple shields this is it. Changes from clear to dark VERY quickly change back is a bit slow but not bad and how often (short of driving through a tunnel) would that be an issue. Why more mfg's are not into this is beyond me. I have used down to 50 degrees and change is still quick... Did not have this while driving in the 30's but will add notes if I have the chance. So worth the price, If Bell remains the only manufacturer to offer these i will be with Bell for a very long time.

How durable is this shield? The clear shield that came with my RS1 is getting pretty crazy pitted/scuffed after only about 2k miles of riding. I'd love one of these transitions shields but I cannot justify dropping this much if it's only going to last half a year.

I have a few hundred miles on mine, not seeing any issues. Mostly city traffic and a ton of small / medium bug impacts this spring. No rock have whacked the shield yet though, so cannot speak to how that will work out.

So far this shield is pretty durable. I live in NYC and have been wearing it for a month. It's worth it, I've got hit in the face with a huge amount of gravel from a construction site and not one scratch.

Answer:
It is possible... I had a Star that came with a defective anti-fog. One drop of water and the whole thing crystallized (would have been a nightmare if it was while riding). My Bell Shields will fog (more of a weird haze than true fog. Simply vent for a second to clear but if it is nearing opaque it is either defective or you just have no venting at all (can cause any shield to get fogged or impaired). Make sure to NEVER use regular lens cleaner on the anti-fog side of the shield or its done.

Answer:
I have a Star with the gradient visor, but the same holds true for yours. Visors fog up. I use an antifog treatment, such as Clarify, and that helps. But even with that I often crack the shield up to the defog position with the lever on the side. Fog goes away when I move, which is what is important. Hope this helps and ride safe.

Answer:
I wouldn't. The manufacturer specified warm water and mild soap only and that's what I use. Plexus is a windshield cleaner - likely to include chemicals that could strip off the inside anti-fog coating.

I've never had anything on the shield that warm water and mild dish soap, like palmolive or joy etc didn't easily remove if I give the warm water a little time to soften it up (like bugs).

Also, take seriously the recommendation to avoid paper towels - paper towels will slowly scratch the shield coating.

And NEVER try and clean it or wipe something off it when it's dry.
