Bell Transitions SolFX Photochromic Face Shield
wouldn't ride with anything else. makes riding safer and more enjoyable.
This is my second Transition shield, and won't ride with anything else ever again. I commute 100 miles everyday and often ride in the dark at least one way. It's also great in the forested canyons I ride where a clear lens is needed, but getting to those canyons on a sunny day on freeways needs a shaded lens. The tinting does wear out over time. Mine lasted just under 3 years before it wasn't getting dark enough anymore. it takes around 15-20 seconds to transition between phases. Well worth the investment, as long as you don't scratch up your shields every couple months. it'll make your riding safer and more enjoyable
I have had them on a Bell Vortex lids and really like the helmet for it's ventilation and easily replaceable/washable liners. It also buffets less than my past helmets.

The only shield you'll ever need!
It only took me one sunny morning to realize I needed a tinted shield.
This the only shield you'll ever need in virtually all riding conditions. In Southern California it has worked great to reduce the glare and brightness to an acceptable level.
Only thing I didn't care for is that the transitions (R) sticker on the visor left sticky residue. I'm afraid of using something too harsh to remove it and damage the lens. Couldn't they have used a removable sticker like the one that came on the original Bell visor?

Pricey but woeks great, few other alternative
No suprises. It's a face shield. It's a single piece of plastic. Fits or weighs no different than any other Bell shield, except this one turns dark or clear depending on the environment. Very convenient, so let's skip the praise and cut straight to minor complaints:
I agree with the other reviewers, I wish it didn't react to UV light. Dark face shield on a cloudy day doesn't make sense, and there are clear anti-UV coatings available on ordinary face shields, cars, and eye glasses.
I also think this thing doesn't go dark enough. Maybe they could have added on a layer of super light smoke, which won't affect night time vision but can help make it a bit darker in sunny mid day.
Lastly for this price, I think it should come with a microfiber face shield bag. Would cost pennies to make, and would give me a place to stash the helmet's stock clear shield as a back-up in case this one gets damaged.
Having said all that, i gave it 4/5 stars.

Will Never Go Back
I bought the Bell Star Carbon Helmet and at the time this shield came free as a promotion deal. I have to say it was a factor in me choosing that particular helmet and I am glad I did because having a transitions shield is something that once you experience the difference from a standard visor to this visor you will never go back to changing shields again. The shield itself gets plenty dark to cover anything but the harshest and brightest summer days. If it's that sunny out you should be wearing sunglasses regardless so that argument is null and void. Otherwise this thing has performed perfectly and I would HIGHLY recommend the visor along with the helmet I bought to anyone looking to step up to something above and beyond the competition.

I have an over night job and commute 35 miles one way and this thing is so perfect!! i use to have to carry 2 shields around because when i go to work at night its dark out i needed a clear shield but when im leaving in the early morning that sun rise was blinding and i needed a smoked screen but not anymore this one adjust perfectly! everyone i show it two always ask if they can get one for their helmet!

Great shield for all conditions
This shield is a little expensive but I need a shield I can use in all lighting conditions and don't have room to carry a spare shield. This is perfect, It is dark enough that when I lower built in sun visor I can ride directly into sun rise or set with out squinting and at night it is clear enough for those dark back country roads. Only thing is when it is cold the transition takes a little while longer.

Took a chance and it paid off. I love it, I no longer have carry two shields. When transitioned to dark, it does not get crazy dark. That maybe an issue for some, but for me it is just right.
Would highly recommend.

better than sunglass's
transition from light to dark is great. Went from sun into a tunnel at Yosemite and the transition was great.
