Arai Vector 2 Helmet - Solid Videos

Shape: Intermediate Oval

What's this?

Arai Vector 2 Helmet

The Arai Vector 2 Helmet is the successor to Arai's hugely popular Vector model. Features for the Arai Vector 2 Helmet include an SAI face shield which provides a wider field of vision. A replaceable interior liner has been modified to improve air flow around the head and to provide a more comfortable fit eliminating pressure points. The ventilation system has been revamped with a larger size switch and larger rear duct which will create 50% more vacuum. The Arai Vector 2  has been created for the rider who doesn't need bells and whistles, but still demands a finely crafted and protective helmet.

Features:

  • Complex Laminate Construction (CLC) shell that combines excellent shell integrity with light weight
  • Arai's exclusive multi-density, single piece hybrid EPS liner
    • Arai's multi-density EPS liner is like no other, comprised of up to 5 different densities in some models which is molded into a single piece
    • The single-piece hybrid liner and its unique benefit: the direct-fused contact area that each EPS call shares with its neighboring cells creates a mutual support - as one cell is crushed under impact, the surrounding cells assist with the energy absorption. (Liner pieces that are simply fitted or glued together cannot rely on such a high-level support bond.)
  • ACF-2 front intake vent has an oversized intake opening for better airflow, and a sliding-door mechanism to more completely close it
  • Brow Vent Face Shield Ventilation System provides cooling air in upper face area without holes in critical forehead area of the shell or in the impact-absorbing liner material
  • Extreme peripheral view - same wider field of side to side visibility as the Corsair V racing helmet (an additional 5mm on each side when compared to to previous Vector model)
  • Tuned rear vent/wing - Air inlets provide improved interior ventilation and heat removal
  • Hyper-Ridge band - newly sculpted lower reinforcement band provides stability and lower center of gravity for a lightweight feeling.
  • Larger side exhaust ports to increase airflow and minimize noise
  • Dual pivot chin vent to direct air to the rider or the shield for de-misting
  • Reinforced shell ridges with integrated side exhaust vents
  • Larger bottom opening for easier on and off
  • Removable/replaceable cheek pads with 5mm peel-away layer
  • 5mm peel away temple pads
  • Meets or exceeds Snell M2015 and DOT standards

Note: Frost indicates a Matte finish while Diamond refers to a metallic finish with metal flake.

Arai Vector 2 VS Shoei RF 1200
There is something called "confirmation bias" where a person positively will rate an item higher then it really is to justify their purchase. In my case I was absolutely hoping to prove to myself that my Shoei RF1200 was a superior helmet to the Arai Vector 2 because I was very satisfied with my Shoei, but I wanted to see what all fuss was about with Arai, so I gave it a go.
I must say, I now know why everyone seems to love Arai helmets. It' hard to describe, but this helmet is greater then the sum of its parts. I look for some key ingredients when I purchase a helmet and those are:
1.) It needs to be light
2.) It needs to flow a ton of air (I live in the dessert and it's hot)
3.) It needs to not make my head look like I have a fish bowl on top of me. Large profile helmets look ridiculous
4.) It needs to have a very wide field of vision
5.) It needs to fit properly.

I don't really care so much about a quiet helmet because I wear ear plugs, but the Arai is still pretty quiet, but the Shoei might edge it in quietness (very close IMO).

The Arai meets all of the above criteria and right when you put it on you know there is something different about this lid. The fit is perfect for me. When you set the Arai next to my Shoei RF1200, the Arai looks to be a tiny tad larger, but when you put the Arai on my head, it actually "smaller" then the Shoei RF1200, and the only thing I can conclude is that the base of the Arai is wider at the neck preventing that "light bulb" shape look causing me to look like the Great Gazzoo.

The air flow in insane. Seriously, this is where it blows my Shoei out of the water. I ride in 100 degree temps and when I am going down the road at 65 mph, I literally can feel my lips blowing due to the amour of air coming in, it's that good!
If I get up to speed (over 85mph), my eyes will water from the wind coming in through the eye ports!

Which bring me to the next huge thing is the visor on the Arai has these little air vents that click open and pipe a good amount of air right at my eyebrow location. This must be some sort of patent for Arai, because why every helmet manufacturer doesn't do this is beyond me?

At speed in full tuck, I give the edge to the Shoei for buffeting less then the Vector 2, but at the 3/4 or upright position i give the edge to Arai Vector 2.

When side checking to change lanes, I give the edge to Arai.

On fit and finish, I give the win to Arai. I got the Vector 2 Crutchlow lid so it's fairly high viz and has a matte finish to it. My Shoei RF1200 is very nice and it's a shiny finish so it's not really an apples to apples comparison on exterior finish. But I like the vents and buckle better on the Arai.

One area that the Shoei seems to excel is the changing of the visor. The Arai gets some getting used to and I know this operator error on my part, but I had a heck of time changing out my shield to dark smoke on my Vector 2. I have seem guys at the track change out their shields in 3 seconds so I just have to get the hang of it. But the Arai has a wider field of vision then my Shoei RF1200.

It's tough to cough up 5 bills for a lid, but I'm kind of a gear nut so I put money into helmets and don't feel one bit bad about it, because in an "OFF" I think this lid will pay me back in spades.

Can't believe I waited 2 years....
...to get an Arai. The difference between this helmet and the HJS Carbon F-15 is remarkable. I ride a Harley and a Ducati and the aerodynamics of the Arai is amazing. Riding the Harley with no windshield, there is zero force on my head at 80 mph. I never realized how loud other helmets were until wearing this one. The large fit tight but that problem was eliminated by taking out the extra head and cheek pads.
Wider vision, great airflow and balance that greatly reduces neck fatigue. I will buy nothing but Arai's from now on.

Arai Quality at a Fair Price.
I've only ridden with this helmet for 200-300 miles but I really like it. I've been riding with a modular for the last 10 years and decided I needed to go with a safer helmet. I also purchased the shade system and pinlock insert and both work very well. I have always worn a large and after watching the fitment video and checking out Arai's website I realized I was probably wearing too big of a lid. I gave the medium a try, and yes it was tight at first, but after a couple of hours it is incredibly comfortable. I did have to adjust the top liner but that's the beauty of this helmet, Arai built that function in. One of the most important things to me was being able to wear my glasses and even though this helmet fits snug they've made it very glasses friendly. Great product and great tips on fitment from RevZilla.

Nice looking, comfortable and good features.
I have been using it for a week. It's a great helmet.
I am upgrading from an AGV K3.

The Vector 2 is a great upgrade, I like the shield locking mechanism, the vents and the shape, it's simple and for using it on an upright position or 3/4. It's very round, reminds me of helmets from the 80's or 90's just round and simple, I like that, not too flashy, aggressive or race looking.

Learning to remove shield mechanism is a nightmare, because you don't see anything while changing it and you always think you broke something, or that it will wear out quickly, I trust it won't but who knows. After a week I got it mastered, but you still have to use some force, it's not a gentle maneuver and it sounds like things are breaking every time, let's hope the design doesn't allow for the shield or the mechanism to break, it supposedly allows you to change it while being worn but I haven't tried it.

On the upside, the shield-holding mechanism is enclosed, and because the shield can be locked on the front, in the event of a crash I think it will stay on, unlike other helmets like the AGV K3.

The inside of the helmet is very soft, the cheek pads and neck roll are quite big and it's a little hard to get your head in at first. There is a huge gap where your ear is, so they won't hurt if you wear the helmet for an extended period of time and it also means you will have no problem wearing glasses, which you can't do in some other helmets.

The only bad thing I found was that the Arai logo on the front is not painted, it's just a sticker and it gives it a cheap feel since the logo and DOT/SNELL certification on the back are painted and embossed, but then I just removed the front sticker and the helmet is even better looking and I'm not a moving billboard. Maybe it's a "feature" so if you don't like it you can remove it, but then why put it on? They still give you extra stickers, it just made it look cheaper than it really is.

I've been using it in cool weather and it probably let's more air in your head than you would want it to, even with the vents closed.

Overall it's an amazing helmet, if you can afford it, get one, they are supposed to be the best (they are the preferred brand by F1 drivers, albeit they use the high end ones and safety may not translate towards the bottom end).
Still it is claimed their low end helmets (like Vector 2) provide the same safety as the high end ones, but the cost difference lies in the exotic materials used, weight and other features which don't really make them safer and are geared towards competitive racing.

I got the solid black in glossy, it's a little scratch prone, but it's not that noticeable, and it just looks cool without looking like a power ranger.

Pros:

Shield locking
Covered shield mechanism
Eyebrow vents on the shield
Comfortable and soft
Good airflow
DOT and SNELL
You can wear glasses (you can't on the AGV K3)
Not race looking (this is good if you ride any other bike than super sport bikes like a ninja or an R6 and the likes)

Cons:

Shield mechanism hard to learn to use (they include a dvd for this) and may wear out.

Huge fan of Arai helmets!
This is my second Arai helmet and I normally wear a medium size: it fits like a dream. The vents work extremely well and I wore it during some humid temps, I was quite comfortable. I didn't find the helmet to be excessively noisy. And I can't help but love the diamond paint finish in dark blue. Feels slightly retro to me.

Can't go wrong with an Arai. Bought this for my son, he loves it, and can wear it for hours and it isn't uncomfortable. Quiet compared to his speed and strength helmet.

Good for the right fit...
...unfortunately I am apparently not. When I first received the helmet, I wore it for about an hour around the house. It was quiet, the vents worked, the field of vision was incredible and it is SO LIGHT. I had been shopping a while for helmets since mine (an icon) was giving me a slight hotspot after long rides and this one was the only "better" brand in my price range that didn't press on my head in store. After feeling confident it fit I rode to work (10 mins away) and around town with it, loving how much of an upgrade it was to my cheapo icon. It's noisy/whistley with the vents open but that's the trade-off for great airflow.
Then I went on a proper ride.
2 hours in and the hotspot on my forehead was KILLING me! Now if I ride for more than an hour I constantly have to shift it to different points on my head just for some relief, it's terrible and I obviously can't return it and I'm not spending another $450 dollars anytime soon. I'll probably cut out the scratchy padding on the forehead and replace it with some sort of moleskin strip or gel-type thing to see if that helps any.
All and all, it's a great helmet, don't get me wrong. Just make sure at speed, when the wind will be pressing it to your face, it definitely fits.

Arai is all you need. Amazing helmet!
When it comes to helmets, there are so many manufactures that offer their idea of what a helmet should be. Arai is what everyone tries to accomplish. They are the bench-marking helmet manufacture. I will not own any other brand of helmet. Once you ride with one, you'll forever be hooked with the brand.

Great entry-level to the mid-price range!
First time rider, but not a first time helmet user.

I definitely have an intermediate oval head, but slightly "filled" cheeks. I got the XL that came with 20mm cheek pads (despite the manual saying it'd come with 25mm). Regardless, I was able to pull off 5mm and it is PERFECT.

I also just went with the Diamond Black - gloss finish with metallic flakes. Just enough "pop", but nothing flashy. The SAI lens system took a bit of time to get used to, but switching lenses is simple and quick.

Air flow is great. I live in tropical weather, where heat AND humidity is a factor and I have no problems staying cool with this helmet.

Again, for under $500, it's great quality with decent amount of "features" and design advantages. Love mine and looking forward to keeping this in use for a long time.

fantastic helmet... if sized properly it is incredibly comfortable
really love this helmet. based on advice from others i went with a small over a medium, even though the small felt very snug all over. I am sure glad i chose the small, as it has broken in perfectly and now feels comfortably snug and secure all over. i guess this model fits my head shape perfectly because there are no hot spots or pressure points. i have had it for about 3 months, wearing it often. recently had a few 12 hour marathon days and even by the end of the day when i had aches and pains all over, my helmet still felt super comfortable! super happy with this purchase!

I had an Arai helmet before - an Astral-x. I was impressed with the overall quality, and it's very comfortable. Now its time for a replacement, going with another Arai was a no brainer. I have been riding since 1974 and have never had a high quality proper fitting helmet. With all of the texting drivers I have become more concerned for my safety. I began researching helmets and thought I had decided on a Shoei RF1200. After trying one on I wasn't sold on the fit so I decided to look at Arai helmets based on all the positive reviews. Once I pur the Vector 2 on my head I was amazed at the comfortable snug fit plus my prescription glasses fit. I just completed my order, can't wait.

I'm an Asian woman with big round head with chubby cheeks. When I tried an RX-Q for the first time, it was a whole new world. I tired many other brands but none of them weren't even close to the Arai quality. RX-Q was too expensive for a beginner rider like myself, so I was happy to find out about Vector 2 which is cheaper but still provide comfort and safety. Not sure how its weight will be a problem in the future, but so far I'm super excited to own this helmet very soon.

I chose the Vector 2 because it fits my head wonderfully and has really great reviews. The video review on your site also helped in my decision. After watching the video, I spoke with an Arai rep at a dealer event and he gave me an up close demo of the features of the helmet. Plus I know I'm super safe w/ an Arai! Hey,
Does this helmet have a speaker cutout/hole to fit speakers ? I'm using a sena 20s and their speakers are a tad large and current helmet can't fit my head in with the speakers

Thanks

BEST ANSWER: Black is matte black, pearl black is glossy, and diamond has the metal appearance you're talking about.
what is difference between aria's diamond black and pearl black?
A shopper on Jul 14, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Both colors options will have a metallic flake, however the Diamond Black will have a larger flake whereas the Pearl Black will have a finer/smaller flake.
I have a naked bike (Monster 696) and rides my bike all year round. I currently have a HJC FG17 helmet which i'm looking to replace, because of the large amount of wind blowing at my eyes & face through the Chin curtain. Since I easily get dried eyes, that actually bothers me alot.

I'm looking into Arai range of helmets but kinda curious about their wind protection from the chin area. I tried the fitting of a Corsair at a local store which fitted me very well. I'm not that concern about wind noise but just the wind not blowing at my face (okay for the eye brows and above). Which model from Arai fits the best? Any other recommended helmets?

BEST ANSWER: Bell include a standard removable chin curtain with their Star helmets (at least in Australia perhaps check box contents in US) that is quite effective. I have a Bell Star Carbon and an Arai Vector 2. The bell is light but very noisy in comparison to the Arai. Different design brief though...
Is the Arai logo removable on this helmet?
A shopper on Oct 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes but it will be difficult. The sticker is adhered pretty well.
I have heard that this finish smudges easily, what is the best way to clean (or keep clean) this finish?
A shopper on Aug 2, 2011
BEST ANSWER: I've been wearing a black frost Quantum II for about a year now, and find it stays much cleaner than my gloss coat Quantum ever did, mostly because dead bug guts don't adhere to the surface as easily. When it needs some cleaning, about two minutes with a paper towel and Windex is all it takes.

On other thing to note - if you're like me and peel the stickers off, you'll find the matte finish will be and remain slightly less, um...matte-y (for lack of a better term) underneath.
Does the Arai Vector 2 work with pin lock visor inserts?
A shopper on Jul 24, 2011
BEST ANSWER: Hi Judy!

I have the Arai Vector 2 and I just purchased the Arai SAI Max Vision Pinlock Shield and Inserts with brow vents. They are compatible and work very well with each other. I highly recommend the Arai Max Vision Shields and Inserts if you haven't picked them up already.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Bill
I've tried an xxs in this and quite a few other helmets (even in the kids range). To me this one felt the best but the guy that was fitting me said they were all too big. When he moved the helmet up and down apparently it moved too much. Is there any way I can make it fit better?
A C on Apr 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. You need to keep trying helmets from different manufacturers and see which one fits your head shape the closest.
Is this helmet bluetooth compatible?
A shopper on Apr 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Do not know.
I just ordered an Arai Vector 2 in the color "Black Diamond". When reviewing the photos on Revzilla, both the color "Black Diamond" & "Pearl Black" had a reflective shimmer to them and look about identical. What is the difference as I can't seem to find any clear difference between the two. I recently bought a Ducati Sport 1000 S in black, and I'd like my helmet to match my bike. My bike doesn't have a metallic shimmer in the black paint-job, so which is the better color to choose?

BEST ANSWER: I purchased the white pearl Vector 2 last Summer. There are very small metallic flakes in the finish. You really have to look closely to see them. (They might show up more with the black color.) Have you called a rep at Revzilla? When I ordered mine, I called and the rep did a great job explaining the difference so I could make my decision. When the helmet arrived it was just as described. I have been extremely happy with this helmet. It is comfortable and when using earplugs very little wind noise. I hope this helps.
