Stylist Jacket for Winter Riding
I bought it to wear during my 20 minute commutes to school in the morning. The weather is about high 30's so it is pretty cold! The jacket keeps me perfect warm with a shirt and light sweater under it! You can definitely wear it around and it looks like a normal winter jacket.
Protection is average with basic shoulder and elbow armor. It has slots for back and chest. There are no ventilation on the jacket and I haven't tested it during the summer but you can take the thermal liner out. I'm guessing it will still be pretty hot.
Overall, great jacket for the price. The only issue I have with fit is that I wish the neck had more room. After it is velcroed, it is really tight.

100% good 90% of the time.
Ordered the jacket and received it just in time for a trip to the Barber Vintage weekend in Leeds, AL. I was in need of a new waterproof jacket for riding. The jacket wil serve as my warmer weather and/or rain jacket. I wear it with some low cost waterproof over-pant bottoms.
I almost always am a fine fit for a US medium. I'll bump up a size for european products or "race cut" clothing (like bicycling jerseys)...even two sizes on occasion. Without the liner, the jacket works great. With the liner zippered in, I would definitely urge a buyer to order one size up.
And I don't particularly like the liner. It's cheesy. No way would I wear it on its own. The sleeves are much too short, the body is too short, and it looks unfinished.
-And what ventilation? No vents. No zips. And very windproof.
But I'm very satisfied. Couldn't be more pleased.
I would pay the same price in a heartbeat, knowing I will never use the liner. Liner out, I can layer comfortably with both a wicking long sleeve T and a wool sweater (and scarf). Actually, liner out, I can even wear the jacket with my heated long sleeve jacket liner over a t-shirt and be decently comfortable (and warm!).
Favorite features are the 3! folds of fabric that cover the front zipper, ensuring water- and draft-free riding. The jacket also has a great zippered pocket for wallet, phone, etc. that is tucked under the main zipper flap BUT on the outside of the main zipper. You essentially have an inside pocket that's NOT on the inside. I COULD PAY FOR GAS AND NEVER UNZIP MY JACKET. Great when I'm freezing! (Highlighted in red in the video aka "napoleon pocket".)
You get a jacket with (almost) all of the swag of the classic belted waxed cotton jackets with more user-friendly features, stellar water and wind protection, and a MUCH lower price.....liner be damned.
-Worn exclusicvely during a 1900 mi jaunt (with heavy rain), all highway, on unfaired standards. Northeast to Alabama and back.

Great all weather casual jacket
The Astars Messenger jacket is exctly as described. Great waterproof protection, subdued casual styling that looks just as good on or off the bike, and comfortable, unobtrusive armor. The front pockets are convenient for keys, wallet, tools or anything else you need to fall easily at hand. The interior pocket works great for cell phones or an IPod and keeps them dry even in steady downpours. The high collar and velcro sleeves do a good job keeping the wind and rain out but your wrists might get a bit chilly once it drops down into the 40's or less, that being said I have ridden in 35 degree pouring rain for an hour or so with just a sweatshirt and the thermal liner without being too uncomfortable. This isn't quite warm enough to be a 4 season jacket without some serious layers underneath but it will work well between 40-90 degrees without being too hot or cold. The Messenger is definitely not a summer jacket for warmer climates though as airflow is almost non existent. All in all an excellent jacket for the money that works great in most weather and offers good armor coverage without being uncomfortable.
