Beware the zipper.. I bought this for my boyfriend last Christmas. He wears an extra large and it fits him spot on (he has a 42" chest I think). It keeps him warm and dry for his short commutes in the rain and looks super-fantastic as well. The issue is the outer zipper. It seems to be very small in comparison to other jackets and comes apart at the bottom on him. This has happened several times now while he is riding. Will likely have to get zipper replaced with something that holds in place. I wish I could recommend the jacket. This is disappointing and would be a great jacket if it wasn't for that issue. Good but not great Fits true to alpinestars sizing guide. The biggest issue I have is with the collar, it's uncomfortable and tends to dig into my neck while riding. I have to unzip the top and unbuckle the collar to ride with any comfort. July 2, 2014
Great jacket This was a slam dunk purchase for me. Fits me very well, with nice adjustment options in the waist and on the arms. Very warm, even riding on the highway in 35 degree weather. Really great quality jacket for a terrific price. Highly recommended. March 27, 2014
Good but has issues I have had minor issues with the jacket. I have only rode in the winter but I suggest wearing something warm under it because I road for an hour in the rain and was shivering. It did keep me dry. I have had an issue with zipping the liner but nothing serious. It also irritates my neck and it keeps getting stuck to my helmet. I bought 2 jackets before this one and am way happier with it. I like the look and it has held up better than previous jackets. The first one I bought the velcro ripped the first day I wore it and the second one I bought had bad zippers. Overall I really like the jacket. Just put an extra layer on in colder weather. Great fit and looks Width of my Chest is 38, Sleeve is 35 / 26 depending from where you measure, and Waist is 33.5 I got the Medium size and fits perfect without both the liners I love it .. its great from all aspects except: -the main zippers sometimes get stuck with the fabric so you'd have to fiddle to get it back on track, -if i have both liners installed it becomes a bit uncomfortable cuz they are kind of loose and the neck presses into my adamsapple. - the white area gets dirty pretty easy and it shows But in all honesty, all those things don't matter .. the jacket is great in every other way. Not too bad. Not too great Got this jacked a couple weeks ago and I do like it for the most part. It fits like my other Alpinestars jacket. It's warm and keeps me dry. It does its job; however, i'm not in love with it for a couple of reasons. The neck gator thing is ok. The bad part is the teeth side keeps getting stuck to the bottom of my helmet. My Shoei helmet is cloth on the bottom and so it keeps sticking to my jacket. Not cool. The other thing is that the 3 different layers don't zip very well. It definitely feels like i'm wearing multiple layers that don't fit like a single unit. It's also strange that the parts connect with a buttons. Why not zippers? Not a huge fan of this design because it's cumbersome if you want to put the layers back on...so i just leave them all on and use it only for cold days. Is it 4 season? Sure. But then again I'd get the same affect if I wore my other jacket and just put a sweater on underneath it and a rainproof coat over my jacket or something. February 13, 2014
Beauty jacket with some issues. The photos of this jacket do not do it justice. It is a great fit and looks killer. I do agree with another review here about the liner system, it feels like 3 different jackets when youre getting it off the hanger and putting it on. These are minor to the functionality provided. Very happy so far. February 6, 2014
Great jacket with great features! Got this jacket for commuting in the pacific northwest. Rode in it the first night I got it. It was pouring and about 30° with wind chill. Matched with my A*s Polar Gore Tex gloves I was completely dry and incredibly warm. The fit on the XL I ordered is very good. I measure, according to A*s size chart, a medium hip, large waist, XL chest and 4XL arm length. The only part that doesn't quite fit is the sleeves but I assumed it wouldn't. With gauntlet gloves there is no skin showing and no wind through the wrist area. This is a great jacket and I would definitely buy it again. January 7, 2014

Jorna T: It's a nice looking 4 season coat that has venting and adjustments but isn't "bulky" or "boxy" like some of the other touring jackets. Jun 26, 2014

A shopper asked: I know the question about water proof has been asked, but I want to clarify. It seems to imply that the liner is what makes this jacket water proof (or resistant). I want to know specifically if it can handle some rain without a liner in it. I would not expect it to handle an all day or very hard rain, but if I get caught out in a short duration light rainfall, will it keep the rain out without the liner?

Also, does it have a zipper for attaching it to the pants that mates with the Andes pants zipper that is nearly 360 degrees?

Philip S: This jacket will NOT keep the rain out without the liner. It's just like any other textile jacket without the liner.

I usually keep the liner in my backpack on days with a small chance of rain & if it does catch me while out on the road, I just pull under some shelter and zip the liner in. Putting the liner in took a little while to get used to since there are several zippers & I kept getting them mixed up and thought that there was something wrong with the jacket. I was just using the wrong zippers. On one side of the jacket, the rain liner zipper is on the rain liner, on the other side, the zipper is on the actual jacket. I don't understand why they made it that way, but whatever, it works & keeps me completely dry!

It DOES have a zipper in the back for pants.

John H: Yes, it is water-resistant without the liner. I've ridden through some moderate rain without the liner, and it's done a fair job. And yes it does have a waist zipper -- I've connected it to the Astars Switch pants with no issues, and I assume it'd work just as easily for other Astars pants. Really love this jacket. It even works well in warmer temps with the vents open. May 26, 2014

Nate B: In my experience Not really. The outter shell is like a canvas material and is great for spring riding but it in rainy riding conditions soaks up water enough that you will feel damp if not wet with out the water proof liner. Good thing though is if its a light passing shower your riding through with out the liner, the jacket dries up pretty quick. Hope this help. May 28, 2014

Jim S: Thanks for those quick responses. I am getting ready to exchange the Andes pants as the sizing was not right, even after consulting with the guys at Revzilla. Fortunately, they are great to deal with - I won't mail order riding gear from anyone else on line! Looks like I'll be ordering a new Jacket soon too. May 26, 2014

Nicolas V: The jacket is quite thick with 2 liners. If you leave the rain one out, it will still take a significant amount of rain to soak you. I rode in pouring rain for about 10 min and was still dry.

I can't tell about the pant fitting, I do not own these pants

A shopper asked: I'm a fairly tall guy about 6'3" 6'4". I'm just wondering if the jacket will come down my back far enough to keep me warm and dry. instead of riding up like some jackets do? Jun 11, 2014

Jon R: I'm 6-feet and wear the XL; as Michael A said, it hits about mid-zipper on jeans. It's definitely not a sport cut jacket. I'd say it is in between sport cut and touring. Unlike touring jackets I've tried, this one doesn't bunch up in the front when sitting, and unlike sportier jackets, it doesn't ride up in the back. I think it is a very good length. Note also that if you have appropriate pants, there is a zipper in the bottom rear so you can zip the jacket and pants together to eliminate any worries about the jacket riding up. Jun 13, 2014

Philip S: You can buy a spoiler for this jacket that comes down about 6-8 inches more in the back. Sizing on the spoilers are weird though. I believe I had to buy a Large spoiler to match my Medium jacket. That doesn't work with all sizes though but you can always return for a different size and only have to pay return shipping for the original item. Jul 1, 2014

Michael A: I'm 5'8, the jacket comes down way farther then some other jackets I've owned, for me it comes down to about mid zipper on my regular jeans. For someone who is 6'3, depending on how long your torso is, it's probably gonna be right on the belt line of your jeans.

Hope this helps.

Andrew H asked: I noticed this is listed as an all weather jacket. Would it be comfortable when it gets up to 75-80F? I would love to be able to where it all year. It's fairly mild where I'd be wearing it, I'd say from mid 30s in winter to 85F in summer. Dec 9, 2013

Jon R: I live in Texas and have been riding in 80+ F degree weather for a few months now; lately we've seen temps in the low- to mid-90s. I've found the jacket to be acceptable in the 80s and not too bad in the 90s but then my commute is only around 20 minutes.

Unlike say a mesh jacket, this jacket doesn't breath well (but then you're also better protected), so it is all about the vents -- they're located in good positions and they do work, but they're heavily depending on you moving and flowing air through them; if you sit still in this jacket too much (as I have to in traffic sometimes) you do start to get uncomfortable. I'm actually looking at summer mesh jackets right now as the temps around here are only going to get higher and I can see this jacket not really working well once we're regularly in the 100s.

However, I will say this jacket is very good in cooler weather. I wore it down into the 30s and 40s on numerous occasions this winter and was not uncomfortable; in fact, I was very impressed. I recommend using the winter liner that comes with it; anytime I tried using some kind of pullover or other garment in its place (even multiple layers) they simply didn't compare to the default liner's ability to keep out the cold.

Justin B: Yes, I bought this jacket when it was in the 80s and 90s, and was so comfortable with the ventilation system opened up. Airflow design works really well. And now I am wearing it in the 30s and 40s and it keeps me very warm. Would recommend to anyone. Great jacket! Dec 21, 2013

Olan H: I wouldn't consider it waterproof, but it is pretty water resistant. I've ridden in some small down pours with it already and it's handled it well. Oct 21, 2013

A shopper asked: Is the chest armor upgradable too? The description only mentions "CE certified Bio Armor back protector insert available as accessory". Alpine Stars offers some nicer chest pads and I'd want to know if they will fit in the compartments on the "Megaton" before buying. Sep 17, 2013
