Alpinestars Cape Town Air Drystar Jacket 4.2 5 22 22
great jacket bad neck It´s an excellent jacket but it has a great problem, the neck it's to high and chokes a little and makes difficult to turn the head with the helmet on, when it´s hot weather it can be fixed leaving the jacket a little bit open in the neck, but in cold weather it's a problem, I have to wear something in the neck, like a scarf. The rest of the jacket it's awesome July 20, 2014
Great Versatility With One Really Dumb Flaw I recently moved from an urban roadster to a touring bike with full faring so needed an every day jacket with great ventilation to compensate for the lack of wind hitting me. The Cape Town seemed to fit the bill and has extensive versatility, but also has one flaw that is so dumb that it's hard to figure out what Alpinestars was thinking: the zippers that hold in either the quilted or Drystar lining are tiny, cheesy, and almost worthless. I've used both linings and in every instance, the zippers pulled apart and I had to fight to detach the lining. For $1 more A stars could have put actual useful zippers on those locations. I'd still recommend it, at least for people who don't really plan to use the liners. July 9, 2014
Great product, very versitile Great 3-season jacket combo - great value for the money. Plus: Styling, reflective accents, and 3/4 coverage. Solid contruction, feels very light when worn. Rain liner can be worn under the jacket without zipping it into place - great for those "pop-up" showers. Large storage pockets. Adjustable arms, waist, wrist, and hips so layering underneath is easy. Minus: (mostly nit-picks) Front zipper area is wide across center of chest; good for blocking rain but blocks a lot of air when riding in the summer heat. Collar is high and may interfere with some helmets. My 1/2 and 3/4's Bell's seem to work fine. Also, a high (wide) collar is good to block rain but is also hot in the summer heat and collects a lot of sweat. The front collar flap is supposed to slide into a "pocket" in the open position - almost impossible to do unless stopped and the pocket is too short to hold the flap securely when in motion. Size runs slightly small. If you have a large waist or muscular arms you probably want to try one on before you buy. Front zipper is left-hand (similar to many women's garments); would prefer right-hand zipper for men's jacket.. CE armour is extra, I suggest bumping the price a few $ and include the CE armour standard. Color options are limited. June 30, 2014
Best all around Jacket Pros 1. to long to list. 2. great price 3. As cool as their air jackets. Con 1. The only way to make it better Needs chest and back protection, but most all jackets do. June 25, 2014
Awesome 3/4 summer mesh jacket I bought this jacket after finally admitting to myself that all the little "zipper vents" on my current jacket just isn't enough in the summer. My original mesh wasn't a 3/4, and I love the coverage going from sitting to standing, not to mention the adv look of 3/4's. This thing flows a TON of air. Took a 1,000 mile pavement trip in 90*+ and I never complained of being hot. Of course you will die in slow moving traffic, but there are no jackets out there that can fix that. I agree the fit is a little odd in the torso. The straps aren't really as long as they should be around the waist, and the bottom is almost too big. Fits me great, but I could totally understand why some body types struggle to squeeze into it (I'm 230lbs, 36" waist and ordered the XXL). The rain liner is short and left me with a wet belly after an hour in a downpour, so be wary to trust it. The insulated layer is kind of thin, but I can't imagine I'd use it anyway...if its not crazy hot, I'd be wearing another jacket. I've never had any complaints about the tall collar, but again, I can see where some of the reviews point it out. For the closeout price well under $200, I just don't think you can beat it. June 24, 2014
Great bang per buck I used the size chart to come up with a 3XL but I wish I had ordered a 2XL now that I used it for a couple days and discovered that the sleeves bunch up around my wrists and the jacket length clauses bunching in the chest area when seated on the bike (GS1200). I would have liked more zippered pockets rather than velcro as well. That said, with the removable rain and cool weather liner it's a great all weather jacket. May 12, 2014
Great all weather jacket I just got this jacket and so far I've tried in rainy, chilly (50F)and 85F hot sunny days and worked out great! All in one week in crazy Houston weather! I have used before Joe Rocket but decided to try a more stylish jacket. I always use a Medium size but this one comes a bit tight specially with all liners on. Also I love the collar but is way to high and rubs my full face helmet (Scorpion). Overall I am happy with the Jacket. April 21, 2014
Great Jacket at a Great Price Got this on sale for $205 instead of the $299 list that it went for last year. Silent another 40 bucks on a good back protector pad. I'm 6'2, 180 pounds and a large fits me perfectly. This jacket is not for guys with big arms or short arms and big chests....or big guts for that matter. I don't exactly have washboard abs, but this jacket is not made for someone with a gut. Great price, great. Jacket removable waterproof liner and separate quilted liner. Very breathable mesh for warm weather. April 20, 2014

A shopper asked: Can the Drystar liner be used without the thermal one? Jul 9, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jean-Pierre F: Yes it can, you can have either one of them or both or none. It is really adaptable to all needs.

Once you take out the Drystar liner though, there's a lot of air circulation even with the thermal still in.

Also, be aware the collar is a bit high and the velcro is very agressive and will catch the bottom of you helmet liner if not attached. It's a minor nuisance if you take in consideration this jacket is very well done when it comes to fit.

Size wise, if you are not slim built, it'll be tight if you follow the size chart. I suggest you take a size up from chart if you're... Humm, well rounder in some area, if you catch my drift.

All in all, a great bang for the buck.

JOCK H: Yes, though inn the video about the product they show a one piece liner that is both thermal and waterproof, when mine came it was two piece, a zip in water proof liner and a thermal liner that can zip out of the waterproof liner. It's a nice jacket for the $. Jul 9, 2014

Arvin L: Yes, you can use the Drystar liner without the micro-fleece thermal liner as depicted in the video review. As a side note, I stay cooler using the Drystar liner vs using my Frogg Toggs Horny Toadz over jacket in warm weather. Jul 10, 2014

Matt B: Yes. And the thermal liner isn't just a vest. It has sleeves. I just wore mine for a 2800 mile trip. The dry star liner works great. I was in the rain for 2 1/2 hours and my torso was completely dry. Great jacket. Jul 19, 2014

The drystar liner zips/velcros into the jacket and the thermal liner zips/velcros into the drystar liner.

Kyle H asked: Is the liner and shell washable? Jun 7, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Kivaan E: The thermal liner definitely is, I wouldn't be in a hurry to try washing the waterproof membrane liner however, I'm unfamiliar with the properties of this material and a quick wipe with a damp cloth cleans it up nively anyway. As for the shell, well machine wash on 'delicate' should be fine but I stick to hand washing simply due to the rigidity and bulkiness of parts of it (not that the jacket is rigid or bulky as such, I've just seen machines destroy synthetic garments that aren't totally supple like a t-shirt etc.). Jun 8, 2014
Reply to Kivaan Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Tim A: The Jacket is washable, just pull out the Armour first, the Waterproof inner liner is washable, however the Thermal liner isn't, I believe it needs to be dry cleaned. Jun 8, 2014

Mohamed H asked: Hi

I have a Alpinestars GP Plus in size Euro 60 and want to get a summer 3/4 length jacket. Is the CT suitable? Also looks like I could go with a 2xl or 3xl. Which would you recommend?

thomas g: Hey Mohamed
I used the sizing chart that Alpinestars provided on Revzilla. I usually wear a large jacket, but ordered the xl per their sizing chart. I live in Texas, and its very hot in the summer. This jacket flows plenty of air. I really like it. It also serves very well as my cold weather jacket, with the rain liner and quilted liner installed.
Hope this helps

Eric S: The CT flows a lot of air; i have been riding in 90+ weather and as long as moving am comfortable. Unfamiliar with euro size but the size chart runs true, I’m 6'1' 260 and wear a 2xl and fits well Jun 18, 2014

SuperFLY91: You should try ICON directly for that one...I doubt any vendors will sell them seperately, but ICON customer service might help. If not, you might be able to find something from Northface or Gander Mountain to wear underneath...good luck! Oct 30, 2012

Grant C: I bought Cape Town Air but discovered very quickly too warm for Florida except for winter quarter of the year, so bought second jacket Alpinestars T-GP-R Air Jacket which flows more air with liner removed. I am able to switch the Bio armor chest and back protectors between the two jackets.
For pants I wanted decent protection that flowed air also. I have been happy with Alpinestars A-10 Air-Flo Pants.
Needless to say when it is hot and you are stationary you will be warm (hot!) no matter what, but as soon as moving both products flow a decent amount of air to keep comfortable.
Separate rain suit is necessary as trade off to flow air.

Mathew D: I got the Rev'it Airwave pants and have been pretty happy with them. When I wear shorts the knee protector is a little rough but not to the point of being uncomfortable. I think they give good airflow for the protection they provide. I also upgraded to the rigid protection in the Cape Town jacket, and while it does reduce airflow I think it was worth it. May 19, 2014
