AGV AX-8 EVO Helmet - Solid Colors

The AGV AX-8 EVO Helmet takes one of the most high-end and lightweight dualsport helmets on the market (AX-8) and makes some significant upgrades.

The AGV AX-8 Helmet is AGV's top of the line dirt helmet and is currently being worn by Travis Pastrana. Extraordinarily lightweight, the AX-8 weighs in under 3.1-pounds. New internal padding with increased thickness for improved comfort and greater stability in professional use. New shape of the outer shell in the chin area which, combined with a wider and softer base edge compared to the previous model, reduces interference with any back protector used and decreases risks of impact traumas, thanks to its "shock-absorber" function.

  • SSL (Super Super Light) carbon, Kevlar and fiberglass shell construction.
  • IVS (Integrated Ventilation System) funnels air though channels in the outer shell
  • Dry-Lex internal padding with sanitized treatment
  • Removable and washable cheekpads and internal lining
  • Outer aluminum peak screws
  • 3 shell sizes
  • DOT and ECE 22.05 Certified

AGV AX-8 EVO Helmet - Solid 4.2 5 89 89
Good, but not perfect - A long term review I've had this helmet for about two years now, so I've had plenty of time to see how the helmet has performed, the pros and the cons. In general I'm pretty happy with it, but it's definitely not a perfect helmet. Let's start with the bad: - My biggest complaint with the helmet is that the upper water seal that prevents water from coming inside de helmet from the top is too hard and in time ends up scratching the face visors. I have two visors (clear and smoke), and both have a cloudy mass on top of my eyes because of the scratching. It's manageable, but definitely uncomfortable. (I did read that they fixed the problem eventually, no idea if they actually did) -Noise and wind. This helmet is quite noisy at high speeds, and the shape makes the helmet move when you turn your head. This is with the peak off. Peak + high speeds is out of the question, the wind makes it vibrate at a very obnoxious low frequency. When I go touring, my solution is using some good earplugs and go without a peak, then it is ok. -Safety. I've noticed the helmet doesn't cover as much of the lower-back of the head as other helmets. This is a small cause for concern, however I'm not totally certain it does have an impact on the helmet's safety. Fortunately I haven't had a crash with it yet -Fogging. The visors are supposed to have antifogging coating, but with both shields it fell away very fast even with proper washing care... The solution here is slightly open the visors. It takes some getting used to because it has few stops but you get the hang of it. Not all of it is bad though, it has some very good pros: +Weight. This helmet is LIGHT. I mean super light. It's always come out as the lightest in any direct comparison I've done (with plenty of other moto friends). Once it's on, you basically forget it's there +Vision. The faceshield is huge. It has by far the largest field of view I've seen in any helmet (including Schuberth and Nexxt, which pride themselves in having great fields of view). I love that it doesn't only have lateral FOV, but horizontal. It's super comfortable to just flick your eyes down and see the instrument panel without having the helmet blocking you. +Comfort. The lining is super comfortable, soft and easy to wash. The general fit, strap and weight are superb. This and the amazing field of view add to the experience of not feeling the helmet on your head. +Style. I love this helmet's looks, both the physical design and the paint scheme (I have the white, red and black). I love that it's pretty different from most helmets, it's far from boring but it's not the typical super crowded and blegh raceboi designs. +Versatility. The helmet is designed to have the visor popped out and put some goggles on. I haven't ever done this as I have a dedicated enduro helmet, but it's good to have the option. I also like the option of having the peak. In city riding it's nice to have when the sun is going down, and even to just switch its looks. In the end it's a very cool helmet, with very good features, but it's not the best. The price is a little too high for my liking, however if you manage to find it on discount as I did it's a good option. See the cons, and if you can live with them, go for it, it's a great helmet! Best All-Around Helmet I've Used This helmet is an excellent option for those who want a helmet that can transition between off-road/dual sport adventure riding and atraight road/street riding. I ride a lil kawasaki klr 250, in which case a leave on the beak, pop out the clear visor throw on a pair of goggles and good to go! I also have a Ducati Hypermotard 1100S that I ride mostly on-road, in which case I pop off the beak and throw the clear wind visor back in. This helmet has 3 large vents on the front top, and a large vent on the mouth all of which are closable, and allow for excellent airflow. I have been very pleased with the styling and performance of this helmet. Although transitioning between the two styles of helmet that this contains in one, could be made easier by going with a tooless design as other manufactures have started doing, I can transition this helmet in less than 5 minutes, with tools that I always have in my pack. Overall very pleased! September 14, 2015
Overpriced for what you get Helmet is long and narrow externally. Headchecks at higher speeds catch the wind. Also not as stable as some. And this is with the peak removed. Under chin seal is fiddly to get in and out. Light, good looking and comfortable. If it cost $250 rather than $399 I'd be happier. September 7, 2015
Great helmet, just not "$400 great" I bought this helmet about two months ago and I've done about 1500 miles in it so far. Also, it's worth mentioning that I ride a naked bike (no windscreen). First off, I'd like to go over the positive aspects of the helmet: It's super light, reasonably quiet (compared to my previous helmet-Scorpion EXO150...which is a very loud helmet) and the volume really drops when riding with the chin curtain in, it has good ventilation, and the width of the eye port...wow. Incredibly large field of vision. If I'm looking forward, I can't see the edges of the eye port out of my peripheral vision. So given the positive features, I'm already happy with the helmet. But now, on to the negative stuff: It whistles...It's not a loud whistle, nor is it really maddening or anything, but it whistles at just about any speed above 45 mph. The chin curtain is poorly put together and the fabric started coming off of the plastic bits that hold it in place by the third or fourth time i used it. There's a serious design/engineering oversight where when you open the visor, the top of it rubs against the eye port gasket and now there are two spots on the top of my visor that are scratched, which is super irritating when riding into the sun. Also, according to AGV's size chart, I wear a size large, and when I got my helmet it was too big. I returned it and got a medium which fits fine. The padding inside the hemet certainly leaves something to be desired, especially if you're coming from an Icon, Scorpion, or Shoei helmet. It's reasonably comfortable on long rides but it will beat your ears up if you don't take the time to make sure they're really tucked into place when putting on the helmet. Also, The helmet is listed as being an intermediate oval shape, but I feel its kind of halfway between intermediate and round oval shapes. All in all, I'm happy with the helmet, but for $400, I shouldn't be scratching my visor just from using it normally. August 26, 2015
After a 3300 km road trip I can say it is a great helmet I took the white version of this helmet on a 3300km road trip. On this trip we pretty much hit every weather condition from heat, to down pours and even some snow on a mountain pass. Helmet held up really well. What I liked: -Extremely light for the price. Definitely helped reducing fatigue on long rides. -Visor/peak angle is good. During the day it really help lower glare and cut down on sun directly hitting my face -Visor/peak was okay on highway. Despite the warning found in the box not to exceed 100 km/h and other users reporting vibration, I was regularly riding at 120 km/h and did not experience any noticeable lift or vibrations. This all depends on your bike and wind shield of course. Mind is a Hyperstrada with a Puig touring screen. -Looks cool. I rock the dark shield and it just looks amazing, I get people complementing on how cool my helmet is all the time. What I didn't like: -Helmet is a little hot. Both from the material they chose which felt hot to the touch, to the surprisingly low airflow to the face (compared to my Icon Variant), adds up to a kind of hot helmet for summer. Not unbearable, just not the coolest. -Somewhat load, I rock earplugs or noise isolation earbuds, but wind noise is still pretty harsh for a helmet this price. Though I can see why given all the angles and the peak on this helmet. -My biggest complain, it is almost impossible to fit communicator speakers in. I mean I can put them in but it gets so tight it hurts my ears. So I ended up going with earbuds. Other than that, I would have preferred a ratchet style buckler, but not a big deal. All in all still love this helmet. Not as comfortable as my Arai Signet GT, but way nicer than my Variant. July 31, 2015
Review summary I like it allot. but there's 2 negatives: 1. The upper part of the shield getting scratched from dirt on the seal. When opening and closing the shield, it slides 20-25mm on topp of the seal. so keep the seal clean. 2. Ventilation in the front doesn't close as much as i would like, on cold days i get a running nose cause the cold draft. July 24, 2015
Great at first but then... I watched the reviews and fell in love with the look and specs for this helmet. Bought the helmet and thought, AGV will be a way better improvement than my Vega! Wrong! Immediately after first using it the chin curtain started peeling off! (Cheap glue I guess) I've since crazy glued it 3 times and hot glued it 2 times, but it still doesn't hold well. For the top vent I went to open it, and felt the top screw was loose. It was loose because it broke in half! I tried to drill out the screw because it's plastic, but instead it pushed the whole thing deeper into the helmet. Strike 2. I bought this helmet in a small, it fit snug and seemed great, but now I've had it for 3 months and it is so loose! I tried washing the pads to "fluff them" to perhaps give me a tighter fit, but it's still loose. Strike 3. Lastly, as I read in reviews it is noisy on the freeway, but also when riding on the street too! I can hear a whistling from the visor not sealing and perhaps it's the loose pads that aid in the wind noise, but it is a lot louder than my Vega. Overall I'm disappointed that I spent a good chunk of change for a helmet that should have been an improvement, but instead seemed to be a cheap waste that looks cool :( I don't recommend this helmet. Lightweight and cool but poor vision, hot, and noisy I purchased this helmet last winter and have been using it regularly for about 3 months and about 6k miles. I live in Minnesota so my early riding experiences didn't include much hot weather. My first impression of this helmet was great! It looks awesome and it's lightweight. The problems I have with it are as follows: The AGV helmet is very noisy compared to my HJC full-face (CL-17) that I replaced. The padding is tight enough on my ears that they hurt after about 4 hours of riding. I have not installed the bluetooth yet but Andy's review said he had to cut away some of the foam. The visor is big with plety of open shield to see the instruments but that also means it can't go up high enough when I flip it up. The tips of the shield are right smack in front of my vision. I have to only raise it half-way. The visor is more annoying than the tight ears. This helmet is very noisy going down the road. Another reason i have not installed my bluetooth. The venting is not adequate. I don't need to be in an icebox but when the temps get above ~85 degrees my head is hot in this thing. It will be brutal when it reaches 100. The visor is only attached on either side with nothing in the middle. At highway speeds it vibrates so much it tickles my nose. My plan is to reinforce the visor with a center rib to help eliminate the vibrations. Lastly, the D-ring fasteners on the chin strap are difficult to reach, particularly with a heavy riding coat on. A quick release chin strap would be beneficial. My next helmet will likely be something different. June 23, 2015

Alan H: This helmet is purpose built to accept goggles and keep the strap firmly seated, but it is not set up to take a permanent visor like its DS sibling. Nov 23, 2013
