Excellent versatility Great shorts that allow you to wear whatever pants you want. On the warm side for sure: you'll have some crotch pot cookin' goin on. September 8, 2015
Most useful protective shorts I've found I tried a few other options but all were too uncomfortable for cruiser riding. They claim the armor will stiffen on impact. I hope that is the case because it feels pretty thin but I know a lot of great things have come from those material engineers. I hope this is one of them. The shorts are very comfortable and easy to wear which means I "will" wear them where I would not wear the others I tried. And as they say, gear is only good if you will wear it. So, I'd recommend these to anyone looking for some reasonable protection. I'm 5'10" 190lbs and the large fit well. June 12, 2015
Casual fit under jeans, with good protective quality Tried the force field shorts, which had more protection, but I felt like an nfl linebacker. This is great product that will fit under jeans and is fairly discrete and comfortable to wear with a whole day if riding. Would definately recommend. December 1, 2014
they're OK They're very good quality base layer shorts, but there are a few issues. First, the gaps in the padded areas are begging to be exploited by branches or any other hazards, leaving a sense of vulnerability - strange from a piece of protection. Second, the padded seat looks to be designed for a bicycle seat. It doesn't reach the 'sitting bones' but sits in there where a bicycle seat would be. I can't say it's totally ineffective on a motorbike, though. Next, these are warm. I'd say wear them when it's cold out. Also, the silicone strip around the thighs are good at ripping leg hairs at inopportune moments. It must be another reason why bicycle guys shave their legs. And then the price... But they're comfortable (in the cool weather) and I like the way they beef up existing hip protection. I wear them. Buy a pair if you're in a splurging mood. October 18, 2014
great product... great product...not cheap but you are getting what you're paying for. very comfortable high quality. October 6, 2014
Very comfortable and protective Another good product from Klim (very comfortable). I am a 38 (jeans and chino pants) so I was between LG or XL because I read some reviews saying they were kind of tight. Call Revzilla and they told to buy the same size of my underpants (LG). I am happy I followed Revzilla advise because they fit perfect. I use the Tactical shorts under Traverse Klim pants size 36 Thanks Klim & Revzilla! September 20, 2014
far better than built in armour I wasn't confident that the built in armour in my motorcycle pants would stay in place in the event I came off the bike. It felt loose and moved around easily. I purchased the shorts, along with some Thor knee armour, and removed the built in armour. I am completely confident that the undergarments will stay in place if I ever come of. A solid investment in proper Ppe. Completely happy with my purchase. September 8, 2014
Just what I was looking for Another well-thought-out product from Klim. Great quality, comfort, protection, no surprises on the sizing...what more can I say. The only negative I can think of is the gap between the two thigh pads makes them visible sometimes through kevlar jeans. But if there was no gap they probably wouldn't be comfortable. All in all, awesome product. July 14, 2014

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Chris Y: Good compromise between too much bulk and no armor. Nov 3, 2015
Orin P: When I wear my m/c jeans I rock these underneath. And just to feel and know you have that protection in case of a get off. I have some peace of mind I have something better then nothing. I need to buy another pair of these. The price point I could say expensive but I love my skin. So $100 bucks its a good middle ground of a price. Those skin graphs no thank you. Oct 23, 2015

Richard M: Kim quality and value. Aug 9, 2015
JOHN B: Best ones made, tried them all... Aug 6, 2015
Charles C: I considered the new Dainise shorts but you were out of my size. My riding partner wears these KLIM shorts and finds them very comfortable. I expect the protection level will be a bit of a compromise due to soft type armor padding, but it's many times better than the lack of any armor I'm currently wearing. KLIM is a quality brand with solid design engineering behind their products..I'll feel a lot safer riding using this product along with the ICON Leather Hypersport pants. Jul 10, 2015
Peter H: I wanted further padding/protection to wear under riding jeans/pants, as they did not seem to offer as much protection as more street-dedicated clothing. May 6, 2015
michael b: These offer great protection, and unlike forcefield wearable under jeans. You can wear these all day and
not be uncomfortable. Klim make good products and the price was very affordable. Would highly recommend these shorts.

Gerald M: Protection of tail bone - am hoping that I can sit on my recumbent without pain. Jan 23, 2014
Alexander H: Wanted something to help protect me for when I don't have riding pants. Looks cool and I love Klim products. Dec 15, 2013
Dennis P: I ride in very technical steep and rocky terrain. These offer padding at crucial hip and tail bone areas. Also, no chaffing. Nov 18, 2013
Mark Anthony R: As an upgrade to my existing armourd shorts which are just thin foam, but in tandem with Kevlar reiforced jeans offer better protection. This is a step up again as I am upgrading each piece of my protection from head to toe. Klim tactical shorts offer better (real) armour and hence are an upgrade and should reduce impact impact force. I also liked them because they should fit under my Kevlar reinforced jeans as they are not to bulky.

A shopper asked: I am a 36 in some things and a 34 in others. This being an underwater, should the mediums do the trick? Sep 30, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
Gary V: I have a 32/33 inch waist and I wear a Medium. The shorts are neither too loose nor too tight. They do have a tendency to slip down a bit in the waist as my suit or pants pull down on them from bending/crouching.

If you're a 34 inch waist you would probably be at the upper end of the range for a Medium. At a 36, I'd venture to say you're likely to be a Large.

To be on the safe side, order both sizes and return the one that doesn't fit.

A shopper asked: With all the questions concerning briefs and this product I would like to know will I still be going "COMMANDO" if I don't wear briefs under the Klim Tactical shorts? Mar 11, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
Nathan B: These shorts have a bacteria resistance padding throughout the groin; think of these are armored mountain biking shorts. If you want to go "commando" there will not be an issue. Just make sure you get the right size as you do not want these shorts loose otherwise the riding experience will be less than comfortable. Mar 15, 2014

Brad B: I wear underarmour boxer briefs under mine so I can wash them less often on trips. The UA shorts dry much faster than the chamois liner. Apr 1, 2014

A shopper asked: I've been looking at the sizing guide and I feel like I'm stuck between SM and MD, and don't know which to order!

183cm 70kg (6 ft 155lbs) lean build. I typically wear size 31/32 jeans. Which falls right between SM and MD.

Any suggestions?

Bryan G: If you are at all used to snug biking shorts (as I am), go with the small - they will be tight, but this keeps your junk in place, and they will stretch out with time.

I first got x-large (6'4", 205lbs, 35" waist), and found them very comfy, but wanted the more snug fit. My next pair was better at a large.

I love these shorts - can wear them all day long and don,'t have to be shifting my genitals to avoid tank smash.

Good luck!

David S: I'd go with the small. I went a half size smaller and was satisfied with the decision. I'd rather have a base layer snug and not loose.

If you make the wrong choice, Revzilla will exchange it without a hassle.

A shopper asked: I'm new to biking properly (wore shorts and a t-shirt and sometimes flipflops for 2 years because I simply didn't know any better.....laid the bike down and as a result, I'll be getting some proper gear!) and I'm looking for something that will last, and protect against abrasions....how well does this poron stand up in a slide at speed? Thanks! Nov 27, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Ross E: First, I love these shorts, but as far as abrasion resistance, I don't expect they would resist much. They are essentially Lycra. I don't know if poron is suppose to be abrasion resistant or not. Inwear then under my rising pants which have the abrasion resistance built into them. I like these because of the extra padding on the hips and thighs, but mparky because of the padding in the groin. I ride a BMW 1200 GS which is a bit notorious for being hard on the groin. These really make the ride much more comfortable. Nov 27, 2014
Reply to Ross Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Ian S: These shorts are best worn under leather. the shorts themselves do not resist abrasion. they are however the best protection I have found in a short. the soft tight fitting material will not rub your skin raw in a crash and the padded inserts do a good job distributing any impact. wade m: i've never done a speed slide on the asphalt, only crashing in rocks etc... off road. the short story is without proper protection, and this is an undergarment, things will get messy. this does the job. Nov 27, 2014

Kevin M: Fortunately I have not had to test the product. However, I'm confident that it's a helluva a lot better than not wearing the gear. I like them. Nov 27, 2014

Joseph R asked: About how thick are pads on the thighs and coccyx? Nov 21, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Steven B: Joseph,
I can help you out here. I ride a BMW R1200GS, lots of long mileage days, but not an Iron Butt guy. That's why I bought these great padded compression shorts. The actual armour throughout is 1/4 inch thick, and it is the awesome "Poron XRD Extreme Impact" protection stuff, not just cheap foam rubber. Research the product on-line and see how it it holds up - amazing. The crotch area where you are sitting and where your junk is resting is a nicely padded soft thick material worthy of a long day in the saddle. At the top rear waistband is another lower tailbone 1/2 inch padded Poron piece. You don't need underwear when you wear these shorts. And they hold up amazingly wash after wash. I have a custom seat from Don Weber in Oregon, yet these shorts make a day in the saddle a day of fun riding, and offer the high level of protection that I want. Steve - Colorado

Albert G: Just over a 1/4 inch. Firm for protection but flexible. Don't notice it over properly sized pants. Nov 23, 2014
Reply to Albert Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Jeremy F: The chevron pads are `1/2in thick. The butt pad is more like a big sponge. It's also 1/2 in thick, but much less firm. It more for comfort than protection. Nov 21, 2014

Patrick C: about an inch thick at the hips and thighs and maybe a quarter inch in the seat and coccyx. Nov 30, 2014

Ariana D asked: I want something to wear under my summer mesh overpants for added protection on the street. Are these a good choice, and would their padding do much to protect my hips if I went down? Jan 22, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Ross E: There is padding in these shorts as you can see. The padding is essentially a dense foam sort of like a really dense memory foam. It might help a little with impact, but I wouldn't consider it great protection. The short would offer no real abrasion resistance but I assume your over pants would. That said I love my pair, they make 6 hours in the saddle easy. It the extra padding in the seat and crouch that makes them worth their weight in gold to me. If I am going on any ride that is two hours or more these are a must for me. Hope that helps. Jan 22, 2015

Ian S: I have three different brands of padded shorts and these are by far the best. they are the ones I pick to wear under my street pants. the hip protection is very good, the best of the three I have. Jan 22, 2015

Norman R: Klim tactial shorts are good addition. However take it from someone who has went down at 55; feet, hands, elbows, knees and head need robust protection. You would be hamburger in mesh pants. Jan 22, 2015

A S asked: Hey all...how well does this poron stuff protect against abrasion during a slide at speed? I'm new to riding the right way (wore shorts, a t shirt, and sometimes flip flops for a couple of years because I simply didn't know any better....laid the bike down and as a result, I'm going to get some proper gear!).......looking for something to keep my skin on if I fall......Thanks! Nov 27, 2014

Nicholas S: Far better than nothing: the padding is pretty avg. tho. Bohn is pretty good stuff, I took the long underwear, cut it off at the knee, since I had over pants with knee armor. If you choose to wear just regular pants (e.g. Jeans), your knees are still vulnerable. There are other products that you can find - many more expensive - that will have more protection than Klims. Think of your tailbone too! Nov 27, 2014

Antonio F G: First of all I'd congratulate you for your choice, it couldn't be better. I always wear my Klim Aggressor brief under the Klim Tactical Short, and the Klim Base Layer over all. I am into long all terrain rides, and Klim has been very responsive!!!!!!

I am 34 inch waist, 200 lbs, 6ft even. I wear size "L" in mine KLIM Tactical shorts, the KLIM Aggressor Briefs, and the Base Layer!!!!!!

I'd say you're probably size "M"

I hope I could help you......

RevZilla: Klim recommends that you follow the care tag on the garment, which recommends wearing nothing but the shorts and riding your B.A. Adventure Bike through a raging river torrent, then dry them over a huge bon-fire next to your bear steaks.

Or, you could machine wash on gentle/cold, and hang dry.

RevZilla: Based on the Klim size chart and the measurement that you provided we would recommend the size SM. If you are expecting your son to grow quickly, the MD may be a better choice since it will allow for some growth. Below you will find the recommendation from the Klim size chart:

XS: waist 24-27
S: waist 28-31
M: waist 32-35
L: waist 36-39
XL: waist 40-43
2XL: waist 44-47
3XL: waist 48-51
4XL: waist 52-55
