The comfort and fait are one of a kind Best ever and I have had many others before but this one is stylish, fits great and does the job September 8, 2014
Why I bought this Helmet I really like the inexpensive HJC CS-5N Helmet A very good helmet, so why buy an expensive helmet. As you get older protection becomes more important. Pro 1.muti layer foam, special muti material shell. gives you a Snell 2010 rating 2.Shoei Helmet excellent quality 3 Is always a comfort to wear. 4.Windtunnel tested. 5. Good with glasses. Con 1.Helmet is big, slightly bigger than my HJC. Even with 5 different shell sizes and special material shell it has to be big in order to get two layers of foam so your head is better protected. 2.Because of the shape of the shell and 5 sizes of shells It is hard to get on, once on fells great. Conclusion If money is not a problem get a Shoei If not get a HJC CS-5N it is a very good Helmet. September 4, 2014
Excellent product but watch your speed The helmet is an excellent product. The problem I have with this helmet may only affect riders without a windshield. A 3/4 face helmet catches the wind above 60mph. Since I do not have a windshield, I found myself being choked traveling on Rt 295 in New Jersey. Watch your speed. September 1, 2014
Super Comfortable and Flows a ton of air! I stopped in the Revzilla Philadelphia showroom looking for a new 3/4 open face helmet to match my new 2014 Mysterious Red Street Glide Special. After trying a Bell, a Biltwell and a couple others, I could tell that while they looked great, they weren't for me because I was getting hot spots on my forehead after a could minutes of wear. Their helmet guru, Steve, came over and asked if he could assist me. He took one look at my head and knew the Shoe RJ Platinum R would fit my head shape and that I was a size Medium. He brought it out in what they call their "wine" color. Perfect fit, very comfortable and it matches my bike almost exactly. I ordered it a couple weeks later and when I wore it on my first ride, I was astonished at how well it flows air. It was a 90 degree day and my head was dry when I got to work after my 40 minute commute. The helmet is exceptionally comfortable and it is quieter than my previous 3/4 helmet (an Ed Hardy Captain America 3/4 helmet). I noticed I could turn the volume down an average of about 3-5 notches and still hear it just as well, if not better than before. Absolutely love this helmet and highly recommend it. For size comparison, I also have a Bell RS1, Bell Mag9 Sena, an Outlaw USMC Half Helmet, a Schuberth C3 flip face helmet and they are all size Medium, so the Shoei fits true to size. August 18, 2014
Good quality product! Installed my Sena easily! This is a well built helmet. Was surprised at how well it fit my "egg-shaped head". I was concerned that purchasing over the phone might be a detriment to correct sizing but everything workout great! Light weight! I like how the lining removes so easily and yet stays in place. I had to remove it to install my Sena 10. Very satisfied! July 28, 2014
Excellent Helmet I really like this helmet. I have been riding for about 35 years and this is the lightest helmet I have ever owned. The air flow is very good and the visibility is great. I just wish that I could put a shield on it when it is raining... July 7, 2014
Very nice helmet My first Shoei is 5 years old and I just bought 2 new helmets for my wife and I. I normally wear an XL or XXL but after watching the video I ordered a Large. It's a much better fit than my old Shoei. Air flow is adequate but I wish there was just a little more air flow on those hot days. My wife would like a face shield but no face shield is offered for this helmet. June 30, 2014
Great fit! Very comfortable helmet. I've owned many Shoei helmets have not been disappointed with the fit. Road over 300 miles in upper 80's temperatures and the venting system worked great, keeping my head cool. Only minor complaint is that it has some slight wind noise at times, more so than my last version. June 9, 2014

Gary B: Always had HJC helmets and wanted something that fit better. I wore a 3XL. Due to the helmet size I was never able to find a helmet at a dealet to try on for fit. Heard about the Qwest "rounder head shape" fit; tried it on a it was the best fit I ever felt in a helmet. I could wear a 2XL but did not want to purshase a full face helmet. Found this helmet on Revzilla and watched the video and read all the info and found that the fit was similar to the Qwest and purchsed as a result. It fits great! Jun 18, 2014

James S: I have the Neotec and the RJ Platinum-R in large. They seem to fit the same and I really like both helmets. If you get the RJ helmet too big it will seem to lift when you ride. I think that you will be good with the large and I'm sure that you'll love the helmet.
Good luck

My experience with.Shoei is that they run true to size. My melon is shaped likw an egg and Shoei has always fit perfectly.

William L: In my opinion, the only proper way to obtain the proper fit on a helmet is to actually get the helmet on your head and check the fit that way. In doing so, I would always place a Slik over my head first -- to ensure I didn't "sweat up" the inside of the helmet, such that if it is not the proper size, I haven't damaged the helmet for the eventual purchaser. The helmet has got to be snug when you first try it, and needs to be "broken-in" as the interior padding conforms to your skull and face. It may seem a bit uncomfortable at first, but when broken in, should fit properly. If the helmet is even a little bit loose when trying to move it fore-to-aft (once buckled) it is probably too big. That said, if you already own a Shoei in size Large, that is your best starting point, and will likely be a proper fit from the get-go.

And... choose a WHITE helmet for best visibility. Since your helmet is the highest point on the bike, you want the helmet to be the first thing noticed, and WHITE will be much more visible than black or dark colors. It's dangerous enough on the roads; make yourself stand out and be noticed by the cages around you!

David B: I don’t wear MX goggles but I do wear sun glasses with the foam seals around the rims. I am not sure if it would make a good MX helmet. I would buy one that was designed for MXing. I do like my helmet. It is very comfortable. Sep 24, 2013

A shopper asked: I am looking for an open face helmet that is comfortable and does not give me a major sore spot in the top center of my forehead. I have a Harley Davidson open face now that just kills me after an hour in the saddle. My buddy has the same helmet and same problem, so I know its not me. I looked at the video for the Shoei RJ Platinum and the interior padding looks very similar to the HD helmet I have. Can someone advise if this is a problem or comment on a comfortable open face?

Joe G: A couple of things about this helmet, one is the size seems to run alittle big, normally I wear a medium helmet and this Shoei is lose on my head, should have ordered a small. My hat size is 71/8. Secondly, it fits a round head better than an oval shape. My stepson hears it and it makes a sore spot in the center of his forehead. His head shape is more oval than mine.Other than the size I do like the helmet, sturdy visor and quality materials. Hope this helps. Jul 24, 2014

Dominick P: Helmet pinch point have as much to do with head shape as the helmet itself. Personally I find this Keller to be more round them oval for my head but still comfortable for long rides with excellent venting.

Wish I could be more specific, but you really to try it on to be sure.

Steve S: The ear section is recessed and has room for most speakers. Will need to see if your paticular equipment will fit. I used to use a communicator with speakers but now I use molded ear plugs. On my fourth generation of that model helmet. Mar 27, 2014

A shopper asked: How is the fit around the cheeks? I have another brand modular and the cheek shape makes my jaw ache after a while. I want the protection but not have the cheek pads so tight...... Apr 11, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Herbert U: The Shoei RJ Platinum Helmet fits nicely around your cheeks ... snug but not tight. A first, the cheek pads may seem tight but give it a little time for break-in and you will have a nice comfortable fit for many years. I own two Shoei Helmets and this one is my favorite because of the fit and weight. Hope this helps. Apr 15, 2014

Keith W: Mine actually fits me perfectly. I have a fairly large head and would typically where the XXL, but in the shoei I use XL. I don't have chunky cheeks, more the square jaw, and my cheek pads fit perfectly. If I'm not mistaken, you can change cheek pads out in the shoei helmets.

Have query about size. Have tried the Large ( I have 2 Lge full face Shoei's) but the fit feels a bit looser than the full face and I'm concerned about whether I need to go to a Medium for when the helmet 'beds' in? Any advice as to how the helmet wears size wise when used a bit?

James S: I have the RJ Platinum-R and the Neotech in large. The fit feels very similar. You could always replace the cheek pads with the thicker ones as the original ones wear. My original RJ helmet was an XL and it would seem to lift slightly at highway speed so I replaced it with the Large. I hope that this helps and you'll love that helmet. Aug 18, 2014

A shopper asked: I want to order a Shoei RJ Platinum and my head measures 24. I know the fit should be tight because it will loosen. I am afraid that an XL may be too big. The chart states that this helmet fit is toward the larger size. Feedback would be appreciated, Jan 28, 2013

RevZilla: We find the RJ Platinum-R to fit true to Shoei's size chart, though it does have a rounder fit than other Shoei Helmets. At 24 inches, XL would be the appropriate size for you. Jan 31, 2013

Welcome to our detailed breakdown of the Shoei RJ Platinum-R open face helmet. Now, this is going to be a great option from the application side of things for really a cruiser upright riding, touring, for someone who doesn't want a full face helmet that typically just wants a visor. There is no shield available for this guy. So really, a helmet like this is going to cover you with a pair of sunglasses or a pair of Bobster eyewear or something that's suited for motorcycle riding. But you have to think about that going into it.

If we take a peek at this and what's going to make this special in that low $200 price point is really looking at a helmet that's using some of these same protective features that you're seeing in the full faced or higher end models of Shoei's. It's an AIM+ composite shell construction. It's going to be Snell 2005 rated for double impact throughout the shell - obviously not the open face area. If we take a peek at the ventilation system, obviously you have a ton of air coming in through the front. You have a very similar open and close venturi vent system here on the back. The nice part is they've added two little, two positioned chimney vents here on the front, above the visor that are going to vent directly to your scalp. The channel is built in to the inside of that. They are open and closable. But really with a helmet that is full faced like this, in my opinion, having them be open and closable is a bit moot.

The other nice thing is if we look at this, this is that wine red color. You've got 10 available color options here in the RJ Platinum-R. I'm going to pull over our Shoei donut, what we lovingly call our "shonut." We're going to show you the interior guts of this. The first thing you want to think about is fit. It's going to be that intermediate Shoei oval shape. But whenever you discontinue that chin bar there, it's going to be a slightly different level of tightness around the face. So just like a modular, just like any other open faced helmet, if we look at it, it's going to be slightly loose around the outside of the face. The thing I like about this, using their AIM+ shell, is... look how stiff that is. I'm really pushing on that. A lot of times, just see with open face helmets that when you don't have the connected chin bar, you lose a lot of rigidity through the opening.

We look at this nice neck roll, removable cheek pads, fully adjustable liner. It's nice that you use the brow fit system here for the front. What that does is it gets you away from having to have a snap up in the forehead region. It creates a more seamless design. It's the 3D molded comfort liner that comes out and has cut outs for the air channels. The chin straps are going to have a liner connected to them. As we look, you can see the ventilation holes, you can see the EPS, and you can see the channels that run along it.

Again, you're getting a good amount of functional features that when you're riding, it's going to keep you cool, keep you protected, keep you comfortable. When you're comfortable, your gear is not distracting you and you're enjoying your ride more and you're also safer.
