This is my third Shoei, and I've yet to be disappointed. Material/Build quality is excellent. Fit is good for my more-oval-than-normal XL head. Visibility/Hearing is great. Haven't been able to check venting or durability yet, and don't really want to check protection level. The Snell certification is definitely worth the few extra bucks for the added peace of mind over a DOT-only bucket. Wanted a flip-up, but didn't want to pay as much as the only other comparable item I could find. Instead, bought the Paulson five-snap shield. It's a tight fit due to the size of the shell, but the T-shaped slots on the side snaps give me just enough play to get it in place and re-install the peak. Sure wish Shoei would make a good flip-up. It would really come in handy during our South Texas summers! Thanks, Revzilla!

Shoei makes superb helmets. I also have a Hornet DS that I wear on my BMW GS. I bought this helmet to replace my aging Seer half helmet. Replacement due to age and desire for more protection in a get off. I wear this helmet on my H-D FXD. I look like a spaceman with an oversized head. It'll do much better than a half helmet but it's goofy looking. I wanted a lower profile helmet but most, like Bell's 500 are Chinese junk and I don't buy stuff made in China if at all avoidable. This Shoei is very well made. I should have ordered a size smaller but I'm not sure it would have completely helped because this helmet fits a round head best, not a long oval. The bottom line: for an open face 3/4 helmet, there is none better. But if you are a smaller person with a small noggin you will look like a spaceman. Trade off for protection....... Don't bother or better yet, if you can stand it, wear a full face helmet!

I tried many helmets and ALL of them either pressed on my forehead or didn't fit snugly on the sides. This helmet fits really well. It's well padded and fits firmly all around.
I like the classic scrambler look of this helment--goes great with my '71 Honda CL450.

If you are looking for an open face helmet this is an excellent choice. Whilst beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it has a good "scrambler" type look whilst still being aerodynamic and remaining comfortably in place at speed. It has a quality appearance and is comfortable and light. Deep sides down to the cheeks help in terms of comfort and stability whilst, perhaps, restricting the view very slightly

This is my first Shoei in 40 years of riding, and definitely won't be my last. My previous helmet was a modular of another brand and now that I have a bike with a fairing and windshield, I wanted to go back to an open face helmet for the warmer weather. After a lot of research, I decided on the Shoei and I'm very glad I did.
Many helmets put pressure on my forehead, but not this one. The fit in my XXL size is spot-on and very comfortable. No pressure at all anywhere. This helmet is very quiet compared to my modular. Hardly any wind noise at all. Part of that may be due to the thick cheek pads. I'm very impressed with how quiet this helmet is at speed. The vents seem to work well. It was 90 degrees this evening when I took off for a ride and while I was a little hot, it was not unbearable at all. I tried the helmet with and without the visor and couldn't tell any difference in buffeting either way (I do have a fairing and shield). Buffeting is very minimal, and due to the shield, not the helmet.
Compared to some of the cheaper brands, this helmet is a little pricey. But I've always believed in the saying that you get what you pay for, and this helmet is worth the extra money.

I wanted a 3/4 helmet for the increased side vision. I have owned Shoei in the past and knew that I really could not go wrong. I chose to order online after hearing and reading about Revzilla's awesome no hassle refund/exchange program. Fortunately I did not need to return or exchange.
Great helmet for those who want to retain their wide angle of vision and don't mind a slightly heavier helmet (not really that heavy but there are lighter helmets out there).

imo open face helmets are generally not safe. However this helmet feels safer then any other I have used. The fit is very good, vision is fine and it's light enough.
Yes I look better in my Bell open face but this helmet is far superior in terms of safety.
