  • The ideal balance Independent tests confirm the Pilot Road 2 offers better wet grip and longer tread life than any of its competitors.
  • How did Michelin incorporate these two contradictory traits in one tire? MotoGP-derived 2CT technology makes it possible, using two distinct rubber compounds to achieve what was once thought impossible

19,000 miles on my PR2 rear tire

Pros:
Rugged

In the past 2 years I have installed 5 rear tires on my 02 Yamaha YZF600r. The PR2 being the most current one. It was installed in March of 09 with 59620 miles on the clock. I presently have over 19,000 miles on the tire, odometer now reads over 78700. It is finally due for replacement with another michelin Pilot Road 2CT. By far the best tire I have ever had on any bike. Most of the miles were commuter miles. About 90% commuting , 75% of which was done on the highway. This is a true sport/touring tire. Great grip, handling, comfort, and durability.

7k Little To No Wear

By Dan on October 12, 2009

Comments:

I wouldn't say I was hesitant to try these tires, because if you read around on the forums, this tire is pretty much THE tire for sport touring. Let's just say, it didn't disappoint in over 7k miles of use.

I put these on my '02 VFR and set out for MI from OR on a 6k mile trip. Twisties in OR, and CO and CA. The other 9 states were flat out boring. Boring, but fast. Mix in an average freeway speed of 92 mph and a backroad speed in the high 70's, and you should be blowing through tires quickly, at least cupping right? No.

I recently took the VFR in to my usual shop and the guy was adamant I would need to replace my tires after 6k. I said, "No, really they're like new" and he said that they would need to be replaced. Fine, whatever, I'll show you I thought. I brought it down for a service and he looked at the tires and he said "You're right, you don't need new tires". NO @#$@! I still have nubs in places and I was leaning it all through CO and OR, and flat spots are non existent.

Bottom line. Get this tire. It's grippy enough for street and works awesome in the rain. Never had a slip issue on any corner and it warmed up well in cold morning starts. If you want a race tire, and actually race, get one. If you want real world use and longevity, don't mess around, just get these.

Replaced the stock rear Metz on my Triumph Rocket 3 about 3k ago with a Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and after a little adjustment am happy for the change...then came time to replace the front tire...settled on the Michelin Pilot Road 2 but the largest size available was 150/70/17..a tad smaller than the sock Metz 150/80/17..which by the way is a rear tire on most bikes...after talking to several tire tech's and reading customer reviews on their sport bikes I ordered the Pilot...What a difference over the Metz..handling, layover in the curves..and best of all...has reduced the (common with darksiders) camber wander by 75%...counter steer is almost back to the stock feel..this is I'm sure just a bonus as I did not know what to expect and there were no other applications like this to read about...so far the front tire wear with 500 mile is true and am very happy for this change...only approx. 1/4 " drop in the front under stock..again very happy with this choice........

Rocket ride on rails

By Charles From Phoenix, AZ on February 25, 2009
Sizing:
Fits true to size
Pros:
Comfortable, Rugged, and Great Value
Cons:
Comments:

My Hayabusa eats tires like a child eats candy... but not these tires. After 5000 miles they still look new. The coolest thing that I noticed was how quickly the bike lays over going into curves now. It makes it feel like a 600cc bike with endless power. It was a little discomforting at first as it felt like the bike was gonna fall completely on its side. But it stops falling in just the right angle just as abruptly as it falls out of upright. I feel like I am on rails on even the tightest curve. If you ride as many miles as I do (35 miles one way on combined curves and freeway 5-6 days a week year round) then these are the only tires you should ever use on your busa. Great wear, great traction, great wet weather grip, great stopping power.....this tire is great in every category!!!!!

I moved from the arid state of NM to rainy Western WA a few months ago, and found my original pilot roads didn't want to hold their grip on cold, wet pavement. I have since put over 400 miles on my new Road 2's and couldn't be happier. once I had finally worn through the release compound, I discovered a wet grip like no other. A must have for the sport commuter/tourer.

I'm a newbie, but I bought these Michelin Pilot Road 2s to replace the worn out pair of dunlop/contis I got on my 2000 Bandit 600. They're for commuting and weekend riding. They are much more precise and easy to turn than than the old set, of course, and Revzilla had the best price on the net.
