I can personally vouch for this boot in a pretty bad crash. A buddy of mine decided to lose control of a cat walk, and ended up flipping his bike end over end, resulting in his bike slamming into the front of mine, immediately sending me over the handlebars and my bike (08 R1) directly on top of me, and both of us sliding off into the ditch *me and the bike*. Thankfully I had these boots on at the time, because the swing arm of the bike had come down on my right foot completely crushing one of the buckles, but doing no damage at all to my foot. The boot was a total loss, but my foot didn't even have bruising! The rest of my right leg was a totally different story... Anyways, yes the boots are kind of a pain to break in, the zipper can be a little weak, but if you keep the straps buckled properly, these babies can save your little piggies!
Yes, I recommend this product.

i bought these as a first boot. I set up my WR250 to ride on the street. Overall the boots were stiff at first and broke in over time about one or two weeks and were very comfortable. I have worn them for around 7,500 miles in the last six months. I have hit orange safety cones, slammed my foot on the ground to keep from falling over, hit the parking apron while drag gin my foot at 10 mph. Dragged the foot to slow down to keep from getting hit. Hit a car, splitting lanes, low speed in city traffic (landed on top of the hood of the car - sorry dude) still on the bike. And ridden on dirt roads (35mph) in Lancaster, CA and fire roads in Tehachapi, CA and the boots have not failed me yet. I have been quite happy with the boots, as a first time boot owner and the buckles allow you to really ratchet down the boot for a tight fit with a lot of ankle support. The shank i believe runs the full length and since i am on my tip toes on the WR250R, I am only 5'8" i like to have the stability in the toe box to keep me perched upright at a stop (light). The weak link in the boot is the zipper, the use a fairly did zipper so with buckles in place you need to draw the boot closed, if you have the buckles tight it will put undue stress on the zipper, which caused the zipper to bend a little and eventually loose a tooth, which caused the boot to pop open at the zipper seam or XYZ. Two points first I think given the weak link of the boot (zipper) you should zip then buckle. The boots are very easy to pop on and off; I was just super lazy, so i would only go so far to zip boots and do nothing else. the back of the boot has a nice large bumper, which makes kicking off the boots easy. Secondly, Icon gives a one year warranty on their products, barring abuse, intentional damage along with crashes - you do need to save the box (?) or at the very least have a copy of the receipt. I did not buy the boots from the big R. I would also recommend rubbing some lip balm on the inside and outside of the zipper to help lubricate the zipper, it takes a lot of abuse and since it is rubbing up against the frame of the bike in my case, might have caused the zipper to fail prematurely. I am also fairly hard on my equipment, so I tend to torture test things under normal riding conditions rather than just wear the boots. If something is going to fail I can usually break it, it is one of my gifts. The fit was good on the shifter and brakes on the WR250R, no need to make any adjustments. If the could just upgrade the zipper, they would have a very good, albeit somewhat clunky boot (good stability and protection). The soles wore exceptionally well, I was quite surprised and if Icon was willing to send me a new zipper I would have had the cobbler sew on a new zipper. However, safety items they do not fix (liability issue?) so they just replace the boot. Hopefully, Icon will make good and approve the credit and give the retailer a replacement Field Armor. That said I went ahead after a lengthy review of just about every boot and several conversations with various manufacturers and bought the Icon Tarmacs. A little less protection overall, but still a quality boot at a good price and after six months of riding I am a bit more competent. The other boot that I think I might get is the Alpine Star SMX-5 as a longer range sport touring boot (for my next bike SV650 or the like? ) and keep the Tarmacs as a short commute, city boot for more casual rides. Lastly, the boots stayed warm in the SoCal winters and didn't get too hot during those hotter San Gabriel summer days. I would also wear the boots nearly all day and I would unzip the boots if I was sitting down at a restaurant or at the Rock Store.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Just got these in the other day. They were a little stiff at first, and even though I picked them up a half size bigger than I normally wear, they have a little toruble zipping up. They are very snug. They were a little harder to manuever around my shifter and foot brake, but after a few rides with them I have gotten the hang of it. Overall good boots thus far, a little heavy and a bit bulky, but solid feel and great ankle support.
Pros Supportive
Cons Cramped, bulky

I had a lowside on the gravel when this bootz, zipper is broken and my huckle-bone cracked. Now staying in hospital. Why this front plastic plate not crossing the zipper? It can increase durability, and riding safety. And now this front plate is just a fake, the weakest element is zipper.
Pros Comfortable, Fashionable
No, I do not recommend this product.

Had to return these for one size bigger. The new boots fit great; broke-in reasonably well in a few days; fit like a glove after a week. Revzilla was great to work with regarding initial product questions and with the return. Thanks guys!

They did NOT work on my ZX-14. There was absolutely NO WAY I could have put the toe under the shifter with these boots, both because of vertical size from sole to top of toe and also because there is no flex in the ankle so no way to angle my foot to fit underneath the shifter. These boots did fit my 11.5 size, but all the inside padding made it VERY cramped on the upper part of the foot/toe area. A 1/2 size larger would probably be best if buying for a wider or "fatter" foot like mine! Gave it 4-stars because of sturdy build and looks/features, but couldn't give it a 5 based on the product details mentioning "street riding specific soles" and because of incapability of use in my application (ZX-14).
Pros Easy On/Off, Rugged, Great Value
Cons Cramped
Yes, I recommend this product.
