I've used this helmet for commuting and long (300+ mile) highway trips, and overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Comfortable padding. Chin bar feels sturdy when locked in place and the latch is easy to operate. Changing a visor takes seconds. Turning my head at highway speed doesn't feel uncomfortable. Top vents don't feel like they move a whole lot of air, but they do flow some air. It does get uncomfortably loud at high speed, though - I recommend earplugs for any sustained riding over 65mph, especially without a windshield/screen (but in theory, shouldn't we be wearing them anyway?). For the price, I can't complain.

I've owned a CL MAX for a few years now and just bought a CL MAX2. The MAX2 actually fits a bit tighter - especially the cheek pads on the face. I actually exchanged the Large for an XL which is a better fit. The chin bar on the MAX2 operates much easier than the MAX and can be operated with just one hand. The older MAX required a second hand to stabilize the helmet while opening or closing the chin bar. The fit could be described as a bit more oval than many helmets of similar price - even other HJCs. Airflow has also been improved.

This is my first helmet for my first motorcycle so I don't really have a broad base to compare it too. Nevertheless, this helmet is an amazing value. The face shield firmly holds the position you put it in, the chin bar, when in the up position, stays up and does not flop back down on its own (I've seen that happen to some friends). The helmet flows a descent amount of air however I do not like the fact that too much air comes into the helmet from the chin area. It would be nice to block some of the air coming in from under my chin. It's not as heavy as I thought it would be and I can easily ride for a couple of hours (keep in mind I'm a brand new rider) before it starts to feel a little heavy. All in all, I would 100% recommend this as a 1st helmet. I am very glad I made this choice.

I upgraded from the previous version and I couldn't be happier. This helmet has more padding, better ventilation, and much better design. I purchased this helmet because my last one did its job, protected my head when I was forced to down my bike by a non-attentive lady that felt as if her text message was more important than her 2800lb vehicle. Ohhh, and it was a great price!

I have a large head and have looked for a modular helment for nearly 4 years now. In the past I had to settle for either a 3/4 helmet in 3X or a Full Face 3X Helmet. Any 3X Modular helmet I tried, the few available, did not fit me. They were either the wrong shape or had some obstruction up around the chin area that made them useless for me. So I settled primarily for the Shoei RF1100 in a 3X Full Face. After having an accident and ruining my Shoei rather than my head, I tried the HJC CL-MAX II in a 4X. Wow.. it's a GREAT FIT. While the Shoei 3x is 66cm and the HJC 4X is 67-68cm, the round shape of the HJC seems to account for the extra few centimeters. Anyway, this HJC in a 4X fits me perfect and I could not be happier.
