I live in Boston and ride year round. I bought the Kilimanjaro this fall and have been delighted with it. Warm and dry with just a sweater worn beneath. My typical commute is short (30-40 minutes on secondary roads at 30-50 MPH) but I rode 1.5 hours on the interstate thiis past weekend (~75MPH) and was... warm and dry; the temperature was in the low 30s F. I have ridden in driving rain and light snow and the jacket has performed fantastically. Sure I might wish I had top of the line Motoraad or Klim but this jacket gets the job done. Couldn't be happier. Besides, I think that I would confused by a jacket that had any more features than this one. You could start snapping and ziping at breakfast and not be done until noon. There is a zipped stash pocket beside the main zipper and conceiled by the storm flap that is extremely useful and accessible. It's these small things that make the jacket an asset rather than just needed protection.

I purchased the jacket for my Father's Birthday present. The jacket showed up on time and before his Birthday (as promised), it was packaged nicely, and was in perfect condition.
The present was a hit,,, my father now has a jacket that is stylish, useful, and I no longer have to worry about him taking a fall on the road unprotected.
Thanks Revzilla!!

I'm loving my new jacket. I'm 5-9 with pretty big shoulders, the Medium fits me perfectly. Jacket feels durable, and it very warm. I've been riding to work everyday (morning temp is 37-45 lately). I wish my gloves were this warm to match it.

As others have noted, this is an excellent product, extraordinary for the sale price. While I have only used it for less than a month, here are some observations:
Pros: Good wind protection, better than other textile jackets I have tried. there is adequate ventilation for 80 to 85 degrees. It is comfortable to wear and a nice comfortable lining touch around the neck. I trust the jackets durability as fall protection, as well, tho fortunately not street tested. The fit is true to size. Plenty of pockets that are easily available and weather protected. My primary choice for most all rides.
Cons: Sleeves really are a bit long. I was surprised that the warmth lining did not provide the insulation for even 40 degrees. It will need to be supplemented for colder weather. They would do well to offer a zip in upgrade for colder climates.

This is not a summer riding jacket, particularly in the humid mid atlantic. However, for cool or wet days, it can't be beat. If you take out the interior thermal liner (which can also be worn stand alone as a pretty spiffy light jacket), it can do the job of keeping you completely (and i mean completely) dry while not baking you inside. The vents work, but you *must* open the back vent also in order to get good air flow. With the liner in (for cold weather riding) it can feel a bit bulky, but not to the point of making it uncomfortable or awkward to operate the bike. I got this on a clearance deal for like 180 and at that price it is an absolute steal.

I purchased this on sale and am very pleased. I have about 4000 miles on it now. I have ridden in heat, rain, and cold since August and stayed dry and comfy. I left Durango CO 2 weeks ago at 40 degrees and rode to the TX panhandle at 90 degrees in one day. The liner kept me warm in the AM and after I removed it and opened the vents after mid-day I was comfy cool into the evening.

I picked up this jacket to complement my winter motorcycle gear. It definitely has enough ventilation that it would work for spring and fall, but summer this jacket would probably be too hot. For winter though, it has a really nice full sleeve length liner plus the benefit of being waterproof. With a simple neck liner, this baby is great down to the 40's and not too bulky. Has a lot of really nice textile overlays on the outside to reinforce the jacket. Arm length feels slightly too long by about an inch, inch and a half, everything else is spot on for sizing. Feels like a very protective, comfortable, solid jacket.

This jacket is very well made but the pockets are hard to get in and out of and the jacket is bulky. This would be a good jacket for a long cold ride - definitely not for warmer weather even without the liner.

Hi,
I am 50 yrs old 183cms and 205kgs. I am getting back into some basic endure off road riding. i ride a DRZ 400e and BMW R1200 Gs. I have purchased a forcefield body armour shirt .

Now I need a jacket that will be a good outer-layer but also keep you cool as I live in australia so it gets hot and steamy! I was looking at the Klim Traverse jacket. Would this be comfortable , can I wear Leatt Neck brace with this jacket and thirdly do I size this with the Protection shirt on as it is going to add some bulk.

You may recommend another product also as I am not up to date with what's out there now.

Thanks

Shane

Answer:
Well... I cannot expand on many of your questions but.... I bought mine in 2004. I wear a medium men's in all jackets, Some are a bit loose, but many are just right. This jacket is fine for my type of fit. It keeps the COLD off my body just fine with a gator at the neck. I ride down to 20 degrees-F..... or lower... as long as there is no Ice or Snow in the forecast. With NORMAL sweat-shirt and T-shirt under-layers I am totally good to go. Now... when it is over 70 degrees-F... I open the jacket to let the ventilation work... as designed.... I am totally comfortable. I'm 5'-10'' and 175 LBS. I grew-up in PA. and am used to cool weather so, you may have a different comfort level than I. I hope this helps you. I LOVE this jacket.... if that's any idea. Also... I'm 46 if that's any help.

Answer:
Firstgear follows traditional US sizing guidelines, while Rev'IT sizing seems more suited to...well, narrow-butted Europeans.

Anyway, go grab a mid-weight sweater or sweatshirt and put your Sirocco on over it to get an idea of how a Gerbing's or other electric heated jacket may feel. Before you do, completely loosen the arm and waist cinch straps. If the fit is snug or needs slight cinching at the waist and/or arms, in all likelihood you'll be just fine in the large Kilamanjaro. However, if it's tight or even the slightest bit uncomfortable, get the Kilamanjaro in XL. If you do and it feels big, you'll be able to cinch up it up easily enough to get a proper, crash-worthy fit.

One other thing to note: if you've never been fitted for heated gear before, make sure whatever you buy fits snugly to your entire body. Voids between the jacket and your body will draw cold air and greatly reduce the effectiveness of the heating elements.
