Vance and Hines Fuelpak 3 For Harley

The Fuel Pack FP3 is revolutionizing fuel management for all new Harley-Davidson models. Connecting wirelessly by Bluetooth to any iPhone or Android smartphone, FP3 makes it simple for a rider to recalibrate a host of engine parameters. Mapping for exhaust systems and other performance upgrades is available from the expansive library of calibrations being developed by Vance & Hines. FP3 also boasts an Autotune feature that changes the air/fuel ratio many times a second, which means your bike actually gets better as you ride it! With the Fuelpak FP3 module plugged-in, live sensor data can be viewed through your smartphone or tablet to display speed, RPM, fuel economy, power, torque, cylinder head temperature, voltage, gear selection and other vital information through the free V&H application's user interface.

Features:

  • Recalibrates ECM by flash tuning
  • Autotune feature for added tuning precision
  • Can display live sensor data while riding
  • Can be removed from bike if live data or autotuning is not needed
  • Instructions included
  • Made in the USA

Fitment Notes & Exceptions

  • You must have an iPhone or Android-based phone or tablet to use this device - it is not compatible with laptop or desktop computers
  • Vance and Hines does not recommend stacking the FP3 onto a piggyback fuel controller
  • There are literally millions of equipment combinations to map and V&H is working rapidly to map popular combos
  • The first time the FP3 is connected to your bike and a map has been flashed, the unit will then be "married" to that VIN and vehicle; the unit may not be used on multiple bikes

Worked great! I had limited time using this because I bought it for my sportser and traded it in a few days later for my FXDB but while I had it I loved it. I got rid of the decel pop, the autotune was an awesome feature, I got some performance increase, smoother powerband. Overall I recommend it to everyone. Also with my revzilla cash I got a sweet deal. As always the shipping was extremely fast and aside from the fact I no longer have the bike I bought it for. I'm sure I'll buy another for my dyna at some point. August 24, 2015
Installed in seconds Runs great, recommended everyone who has custom exhaust and air filter. August 24, 2015
DIY EFI Mapping made easy!!! Outstanding product technology that allowed me to DIY on my 2015 HD Sportster 48. It work great, as designed, easy to follow-instructions, downloaded mapping template and the results were outstanding. See YouTube "Harley-Davidson 48 Before - After Upgrade" for my video. I recommend this product! August 20, 2015
Super Easy to Install and Use I had to say good bye to my old 1st gen android phone as it was too outdated to support the FP3 software, but it was time for that to happen any way. I used this on my 2015 Fat Bob and installation on the bike was about as easy as it gets and there was even room under the side cover for the tuner to stay on the bike. The software download to my new Galaxy S6 phone was fast and painless and the phone found the tuner and connected flawlessly. I re-tuned the stock bike first, then for the addition of a Performance Machine Super Gas air cleaner and finally V&H 3" slip-ons. On the stock bike, the fueling was much improved over the stock settings. I did not notice much change with the addition of the high flow air cleaner alone, but the Super Gas sure looks good. When I added the slip-ons though, there was a clear indication this tuner was working. Originally I mistakenly selected the tune for the slip-ons with competition baffles instead of the standard baffles. After correcting the tune, the exhaust note was definitely changed....I would have never guessed the baffles alone would have that much impact on the tune. I ran the bike for 150 miles performing the autotune on the bike, but I had a hard time getting "green blocks" on the graph anywhere but in the meat of the rev range and it was hard to tell what combination of gear/rpm/throttle positions would provide tuning results where "orange blocks" existed. Detailed riding instructions on getting the best autotune results would be appreciated. Overall, this was a really straight forward installation, very easy to use, and produced very good results for the money. August 18, 2015
Worked great. The longest part of this was the firmware update. Pretty cool to play with, bike runs so much cooler now. No popping or detonation. I love this tuner. Great job Revzilla! Ordered on a Friday was on my doorstep Monday. August 17, 2015
Great product, easy to use. Can't ask for a better product. Easy to use. Just plug in and follow the instructions. Simple. Highly recommend. August 17, 2015
Easy, easy, easy If you watch the Revzilla Vance & Hines Fuelpak FP3 installation video first, then this is super easy to install. I read the paper directions first, installed, but wasn't sure I did it right. Then I watched the Revzilla video and it confirmed that it was all good! :) It was easier than I thought it would be. No need to uninstall the O2 sensors or anything else. Just removed my softail seat, found the plug, and the rest was easy. August 15, 2015
LOVE IT! I absolutely love this programmer! Super easy install and the ease of controlling it from my iPhone is a great combo! The iPhone app is outstanding. August 10, 2015

Maurilia T: Seemed easy to use and there are a tons of reviews for this product. I know I am not very good at tuning and I will try my hand at this. Harley likes to charge an arm and a leg for simple bench tuning for ready off the shelf products. I don't like the idea of tuning every single time I change or tweak a part on the bike. Knowing I have the ability to adjust and tune for small changes with one up front cost is amazing as opposed to $375 in dyno time and additional tuning cost each time. Jun 21, 2015

Matthew W: You should just be able to click on your maps. Obviously you have to have the tuner plugged in and bike turned on. Once you click on the maps it should show you all your maps. You will have your stock map at the top and the custom maps below that. Just select one and hit the trash can in the upper right corner to free a spot up. Mar 23, 2014

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Gregory S: Short answer is, yes it will. All high flow intakes are basically the same, they allow more air. The throttle body can only allow so much air, so there is a standard "setting" for all high flow intakes. It does also allow for more aggressive mods such as cams. The program will identify your pipes specifically because they are Vance and Hines. Therefore it will work for your setup. I have owned this mapper for about a month and I love the features and ease of use. I even added a usb charger and phone mount to my bike so I can ride using he live sensor data. Definitely money well spent. Apr 27, 2014
Reply to Gregory Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
John W: V&N slip ons? If you mean V&H then yes they have a map for that combo (when it comes to intakes it simply shows it as a high flow air intake, nothing specific, so no worrying about intake manufacturers)

Even if they didn't it would have the autotune feature to make a custom map for your setup.

Then if you ever change your pipes you can use it to tune it to the next setup as well.

Dennis M asked: What were the improvements noticed after ? HP, Torque, throttle response? Aug 20, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Christopher H: I noticed that there is a little throttle response increase, there is a decrease in my engine temperature, and a significant decrease in deceleration pop. The rev limit is also increased. Autotuning may get you some hp and torque but probably not enough to feel the difference. Aug 20, 2014
Patsy W: Along with the FP3, I installed a Big Sucker air cleaner, and VH Bigshots Staggered. I don't know any exact numbers or anything, as I didn't dyno my bike, but there were definitely noticeable differences after the stage 1 upgrade. The FP3 is VERY easy to use, its convenient in that you can monitor it via bluetooth to your phone and can re-flash and edit maps whenever you need to. The throttle response, HP, and torque seemed drastically different, but again i don't know how much of that is necessarily the FP3. All i know is it seems to do the job with the air/fuel ratio and my bike rides great. It is very rare for me to get any popping on decel, but when it does pop its usually just a single little pop, no loud pops or backfiring.

Hope this answers your question.

I am wondering if the fuelpak3 will fit a Sportster. Also, how.do I k n ow that the fpk3 is tuning the bike safely for long term use? Is it as good as taking the bike in and having it dyno tuned? I just worry about the tuner not fine tunng it precisely enough and it running hot and sucking some of the life out of the motor over the long term.

Peter K: I had just added a Big Sucker intake and Bassani exhaust to my new ('14) Fat Bob. I then spent the $350. on the unit and another $100 or so to upgrade my old iPhone to get Bluetooth to use the unit. I ran the unit... and didn't feel any difference....(I felt clueless as to what had been adjusted). So I took the bike in to the best dyne-tuners in my area and purchased TTS Mastertune. I sat with them as the went through each cylinder at all rpm ranges. I gained 9 hp and 13 torque from the dyne tune - above what the FP3 had done..... and it REALLY showed out on the road!

Based on my experience, I'd say spend the bucks on a good dyno tune. You'll feel the difference and you'll know you're dead-on / dialed in.

jason j: hi, I would check the application to make sure it fits your sportster exactly, yr, model, engine size, - I bought the vance and hines tuner for my dyna, I had put their exhaust on and retuned it with the fuelpak - its very easy to do, uses an app off your phone, plug it into the bike, follow the instructions, and its done in 5-8min- no tools required- the tuner is locked into that bike because it uses the vin # to activate- can't use it on other bikes after that- but if you make more mods to that bike, you can keep retuning it with the fuelpak- I was very impressed with it- im pretty oldschool- used to tuning carbs and distributors- this was the easiest tune ive ever done- I recommend it Nov 2, 2014

Matthew L: Just got email reply from V&H:
"First, some decel pop is normal. We can eliminate nearly all of it, but at the expense of some MPG. You can try using the AutoTune to help with some, or we can make some manual adjustments. If you would like us to make some manual adjustments, we would need you to connect to the bike and go to the customer support area and hit the upload button. Then send us a confirmation email with your VIN and we will make the adjustments and send it back to you."

I'm going to try the auto tune and see what happens. I'll let you know. Thanks guys. Matt

Michael E: The map that you are going to see when you plug this in and check is most likely going to assume you have a high flow intake. However this fuel pack does allow you to create your own map simply by plugging it it and ridding it like you normally do. I would think that this would help it adjust for the change in back pressure from the new exhaust. Then when you get your intake you can either create a new map or just go with the map they have for your exhaust that is pre-made. The good thing with this is that it will save your stock map automatically and you could switch back to it at anytime if necessary. May 14, 2015

Christian Y: No, the fuelpak is designed to only accept certain pipe mods for specific pipes. Since your pipes will be neither after market or stock the fuelpak won't have a setting to adapt to that. Now, you can autotune with it, but you run the risk of either leaning out to much or running to rich. If you decide to get after market pipes down the line, this is definitely a great tool, and IMHO it is definitely better then paying 300 bucks to run the bike on a dyno. You may luck out and find a compatible mod on the fuelpak but don't think it is worth the investment. Oct 23, 2014

Timothy M: I have a 14 iron 883 with short shots, high flow a/c, and the FP3. The FP3 is set up to assume a high flow a/c; there is no way I know of to flash a map with a stock a/c. That said, if you flash the map for short shots to your bike, it should go a long way towards solving your problem. My guess is if you auto tune the bike using the FP3 after that, your bike will be running really smooth. Aug 5, 2014

A S: Thx Timothy, so you suggest buy the FP3 eventhough the stock air filter? or its really necesary to change to a high flow a/c? Aug 5, 2014
Timothy M: My (educated) guess is that the FP3 will get your bike running well even without a high flow a/c. I've also read that V&H customer service for FP3 customers has been quite good. So, I'm confident that if a canned map + auto tune doesn't get the bike running perfectly, V&H customer service should be able to help you out. I actually think that V&H can remotely access and edit your maps, but I could be wrong about that.

A high flow a/c is not NECESSARY. But it comes highly recommended. A complete stage 1 upgrade (minus cams, if you count that as stage 1), will really bring your Iron to life. Basically, you're helping the bike breath better on both ends, intake and exhaust. If you've got a "high flow" exhaust like the short shots and the relatively restrictive stock a/c, you've got a bike that can breath out but not in. Between the shortshots and the FP3, I know you're already talking about a serious amount of money. But, a basic high flow a/c is relatively inexpensive and, in my opinion, well worth the cost given that you are already so close to a full stage one upgrade. Put that revzilla cash or bucks or whatever it is to good use! Aug 7, 2014
Patsy W: normally popping is on decel, not when gaining speed. You might have an exhaust leak. If not, then the FP3 should definitely help... it wouldnt hurt. Aug 20, 2014

Jesse G: To be honest I would not know. At the time when I purchased VH fuel pack it was the only one available for my bike a 2014 iron 883. I did some research and this was the one that fit my needs. When you have a new bike a lot of parts that might fit the year before might not fit yours. I ran into that many times. You can always go to the manufacturers web sight and they might be able to tell you. This product is really nice easy to use and easy to set up. Have to try diffrent calibrations at first but ones you get the rite one the bike feels great. My brother also picked one up and his happy with it. Sorry could not help Jun 27, 2014

Richard M: While it may not have the exact combo of intake and exhaust you have, you can select the closest ones and then have it learn your bike over a couple of tanks of gas and have it creat it's very own unique map. Apr 2, 2015

gene s: I put a K&N intake, and Vance and Hines slip ons on my 2014 FLS. Until I added the Fuel Pak it back fired on deceleration and didn't seem to run any better than stock. After the Fuel Pak was used to remap my bike the back firing stopped and it seemed to help the midrange and a little bit on top end. It is kind of expensive but modding the bike without it doesn't do much good, and it probably leans the bike out so much that hot weather would probably make it even harder on the engine. I also added an oil cooler which never hurts an air cooled engine. Hope this helps, Good luck. Apr 2, 2015

Christopher H: The Fuelpak FP3 is married to your bike. It goes with the bike and is not usable on another bike. So you add that as a selling point if you sell your bike. If you purchase a new bike you will also have to purchase a new FP3 unit. Dec 1, 2014

A S asked: Will this do anything to a stock bike? I haven't done intake and exhaust yet, but I get some crazy popping on deceleration and I've had a few different people tell me it's because of the factory tune on the bike. Sep 2, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
alexander d: From what I know, it's more designed from a modification perspective. When you first interact with the unit, it asks you which intake and exhaust you have on there. I dont remember if there were options for stock. I can imagine that even though running stock this might help run less lean/rich and more optimal. Worst case scenario you can always run the autotune on it until you have mods on the bike. Sep 18, 2014
Reply to alexander Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Brandon R: There is a map for harley exhaust w/ stock intake, most likely for the screaming eagle exhaust. If you tune it might worsen the ''popping''; sounds like you are runnning a little rich. I recommend an intake and exhaust upgrade, then pair with fuelpak. You will notice an improvement in throttle response and overall performance. Sep 18, 2014

Nathan H: When in doubt, contact tech support at Vance and Hines. That's what I did and they put my mind at ease. Also the support you get from revezilla can't be beat. ZE\'EV B: There are not many choices for the Breakout; as its a newer bike. Your iPhone will walk you through the exhaust and breather. I chose the closest and it works great. I have Bassani pipes; which is not a pre-mapped choice. I chose the tune that was closest (for Vance & Hines pipes) and then you can custom "tune" from that point; if you find it necessary. John G: you would have to remove your present fuel management installation. I get a pop every now and then and they said that's normal. But overall my bike runs fine. I had a bike like the one have now and I spend a lot of money having it dyna tuned and it ran a little bit better then with the vance and hines. Over all it's fine. You have to remember that technically Harley is a piece of crap. I love Harleys and have been riding them over 40 years now but they are not the best bikes from a purely technical point of view. I had the same issue on my 2011 limited running a D&D 2 into 1 and it was Harley tuned and still popped. hope this helps ya....Rick Feb 7, 2015

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Dennis H: Please read the FP3 documentation to confirm this.

On the first time you downlad a new "map" into the bike you own, part of the process detects the VIN number of the bike in the computer. The download process will stop and ask if you want to proceed. If you select yes, the FP3 Tuner then becomes usable only for that bike's VIN number. I believe that the FP3 Tuner will not care if you go from a 883 to a 1200, you should be able to push a new "map" into the bikes computer as often as you like and in any engine or bolt-on component configuration that you need.

Please read the FP3 documentation to confirm this. Short of that, a quick call to Vance and Hines will get your question answered.

Timothy M: The FP3 will make no noticeable difference in the sound of your bike. Tuomo is right in that changing your idle speed will make a change in the sound of the bike at idle, but I'd advise against making those sorts of changes unless you're certain of the implications it will have for how your bike will run. If you want to change the sound without changing your pipes, trying different baffle configurations is your best bet. The FP3 is a performace related tool. Jan 21, 2015

You can change only idle speed sound, but not very much. If you adjust the idle speed lower you can get almost classic HD sound. But remeber, dont adjust too low.

I also have the 13 Breakout with the Vance & Hines Big Radius 2 into 2 with the Screaming Eagle Stage 1 kit and I have not had any problems while using the map they supplied. My bike did not run well after the autotune feature so I went back to the regular map supplied.

If you think you bent a valve or caused internal damage you probably want to contact Vance & Hines directly to have them answer that question. You probably should also take your bike to your mechanic to have it looked at before further damage occurs.

Keith R: I recommend the preloaded map. I have a 2014 breakout with Vance and Hines 2 into 2 and a Rowland Sands intake..bike runs like a raped date with the pre loaded map, don't waste your energy on the auto tune unless you have a lot more mods Jun 12, 2014

John G: If it is designated for your bike it will work fine. My bike runs great, price was great also. You should have a hi flow air cleaner and less restrictive pipes. Apr 29, 2014

Ruben G: Yes, the map for an air cleaner is the same and it has an option for V&H slip ons and it will create a map to tune your bike. Aug 26, 2015

A shopper asked: Will the FP3 work with any kind of exhaust? Also could someone go into depth about the auto tuner feature? Mar 15, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
alexander d: The FP3 has options for multiple kinds of exhaust. Of course, the most prevalent ones are those made by V&H.

The autotune feature is basically a setting there you leave the FP3 in an open loop type of setting. When you start riding the bike it will fill in the parameters of the different boxes at different RPM's and throttle% to adjust everything to your bikes settings. The first time you start the bike on autotune it is a little rough because the settings are blank and the fueling is starting fresh and has no idea how much to give. I stalled out twice when I was first doing this. Some people have had a lot of luck running the autotune feature. I personally preferred the way the bike rode with the setting of the exhaust and intake in the optional fields. YMMV.

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Joseph M: It will do the map for the 883-1200 conversion kit. I don't know if it will let you alter spark advance, but it will monitor front and rear spark advance. Feb 17, 2015

A shopper asked: I have a sportster fortyeight and i'm think about change the pipes to get a better sond, but realy concerned about lowering my range even more! Can this safe my life? Oct 9, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jesse G: When I changed out my pipes the bike really didn't change it was ones I put on the intake on it that it started having a misfire. My brother and I have the same set up. He didn't really have to play much with the tuner to get his bike running properly on the other hand I did. Now my bike runs really good. The tuner is very simple and easy to use. Harley said that you need to tune the bike if you change the pipes but for us it really didn't do anything like I said until we installed an intake. Why pay 650 or more that Harley charges when this gets the job done. It's a great product. Also Vance and Hines makes great pipes and you can get a K&N intake cheaper then other brands. Oct 21, 2014

A shopper asked: Does this require getting the bike dynoed? Feb 28, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (1)
Gregory S: The use of this programmer alone will not require any type of dyno. It does use an auto tune feature by reading factory installed components which acts like a simplified dyno. Though it may not be as accurate, it will much cheaper and can be utilized multiple times without having to pay extra. Mar 17, 2014

Ramanth V: How many motorcycles can I tune with my FP3?

Answer: Each bike you tune will require a different FP3. The FP3 will “marry” to your VIN when you flash a map to it the first time. After that, the FP3 will not be able to flash any other bike. You can still use it to read diagnostic trouble codes or display live data on any CAN bus equipped Harley

William F: The way I understand it is: It can be used on a variety of bikes, but once you use it to download and program an ECM it is married to that one bike and can't be used on any other bikes.
You can retune the bike it's married to, just not different bike...

John R: If I read instructions right, you could have up to three maps saved on your phone. You are able to flash the map and take it off and flash another bike. However, the autotune will not be useful if you switch it out or take it off completely. Jun 23, 2014
