Shoei RF-1200 Beacon Helmet

Combining visibility and style, the Shoei RF 1200 Beacon Helmet is like a light out of the darkness. The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2010 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Quietness

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

Ventilation

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Features:

  • Four shell sizes
  • Dual density EPS liner
  • Superior ventilation
  • 3D Max-Dry System II Liner
  • E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick-Release System) CWR-1 Shield System
  • Neatly secure chin strap
  • Includes Pinlock pins and lens insert
  • Includes breath guard and chin curtain
  • Snell M2010 and DOT Certified

Note: Due to manufacturer restrictions, the RF-1200 Beacon and other Shoei products can only be shipped to addresses within the United States

Shoei helmets are excellent I prefer Shoei helmets. They fit a more round head like mine, and they are always comfortable and wear well. The pin lock visor has great visibility, and stays clear even in cold weather (with the chin curtain removed). Plus, the styling on this helmet is great! The helmet reminds me of Darth Maul every time I look at it. April 6, 2015
Great Helmet...too LOUD! Nothing but praise for this helmet.....but Pros: Fit, comfort, visibility, venting (although it is currently 15 degrees) Cons: LOUD. Above 50mph you will absolutely need ear protection. Sounds like a leaf blower is being blown in the helmet. If hope is a course of action, maybe the noise will be reduced in warmer weather with the vents open. Bottom Line: Great Helmet except for the noise. Noise alone prevents me recommending this helmet. February 16, 2015
Great helmet for price tag I've been using this helmet for about 6 month. Couple of thing that I like: 1) Its light. 2) Due to its shape you don’t get as much wind noise 3) Once you break it in you will not notice it while riding. 4) Good airflow for summer and able to keep OK temps in winder. 5) Replacement shields are on par cost wise (pin lock is a plus) Not so good: 1) Front chin vent has 3 settings, while closed and full open do their job. The middle setting I find to be useless. Every time I operate that vent I feel like its going to fall off. 2) Installing aftermarket BT communication product turned into full on fab… I wish the speaker pods were 5mm larger and 2mm deeper to fit “common” size. I didn’t want to alter the this helmet, so I had to take a dremmil to speaker hosings. February 13, 2015
this helmet has good features this helmet has very good venelation and I don't get much wind noise on the highway. Also like that it is high vis so I am easyer to be seen,I also like that I have a good range of view. February 9, 2015
Great Helmet I previously had the HJC CL-17. To me this helmet was average. It fogged up all the time when I wasn't in motion and even with all my vents closed air would still enter my helmet. I ride a honda CTX700 so I'm sitting very upright so I just assumed this helmet was not designed for the upright rider ( Only my opinion). Now to the RF 1200. When I first saw it out the box I automatically assumed it was be to small for my head (I wore a large in the HJC) because of the helmet's smaller profile but it fit like a glove once I put it on. One of the best parts of this helmet is the wide visor that allows you to see more of the road and increases side vision greatly. There was no fogging at all in 30 degree weather and I didn't have any problems with air going through my helmet with the vents closed. Also I forgot to mention that in my old helmet whenever I turned my head while riding it felt like the wind was trying to knock me out but the the RF-1200 there is far less wind drag on the helmet. and quite. I don't know a lot about helmet's as a whole (I'm new to the biking world) but I do know this helmet is worth the hefty price. February 3, 2015
Beautifully Crafted Been riding with this helmet for just under 2 months now and I love it! Took a couple days of use to break in but once it did I find it to be beyond comfortable, a few times I forgot it was on. In cold weather it keeps my head toasty and In hot weather I feel perfectly fine, even at stops. Quite an expensive helmet but if put in a bad situation I am confident It will do its job. Almost matches my bike too! January 19, 2015
quiet, lightweight, great looking helmet I've been an Arai guy for years, but when it was time for a new lid this past fall the features, look, and price of this helmet made me change up. The things that drove me from Shoei to Arai years ago are less prevalent but still present - the fit is a bit snug for my slightly wider than average noggin, and the ear cutouts are smaller than Arai's are typically and my ears (again larger than your average bear's) tend to get caught and I have to wiggle the helmet around until they settle into the recesses properly. Unlike my old Shoei's however, my ears aren't continually pinched after that and once it's on the helmet actually is very comfortable even when I wear it for hours on end. The noise level is extremely quiet even with all vents open, and while I suppose there must be quieter ones available I feel this is the best compromise in a helmet I've owned between reducing noise level and weight. And the thing looks pretty BA too. Just keep in mind this is hi-viz red, not the typical Ducati/Honda red so if you're trying to match your bike, it may not be the perfect color. It's not as bright orange as the fluorescent red on Dainese leathers, for instance, but it's definitely lighter than the pics might suggest. I bought this at the Philly gear boutique and saw it in person before buying so there were no surprises for me - I think it looks awesome. January 12, 2015
Excellent and Extremely Quiet! Great helmet and very quiet on the road. Also looks extremely cool. January 5, 2015

A Q: I love Shoei. I have been eyeing this helmet (black and red beacon) for sometime. Reviews are awesome and price is great :) Feb 1, 2015
Peter M: Cause it looks amazing and I loved the rf1100. Jan 3, 2015
Travis K: I needed a quiet, premium helmet as an upgrade. Based on reviews and design, this was the best fit for me. Nov 11, 2014
Chelsey M: Was crossed between a shoei and the Icon ghost carbon just for the look, in the end the shoei had more features than just looks and will most likely be more comfortable. Oct 24, 2014
David F: The quality of Shoei cannot be beat, and the RF-1200 is hands down the best bang for your buck, add some killer graphics like the beacon(DARTH MAUL SITH LORD) and you have yourself a winner. The RF-1200 offers quite a few badass graphics, and it was a tough decision between this one and phantasm, but the red and black went better with my color scheme or red white and black so this won, but I'd be happy with either one. Thank you Anthony for the great videos. Truly helped me make the decision Oct 21, 2014
L A: Amazing in all categories! Great ventilation, low wind noise, very light, very reflective in both day and night, and also super cool! Comes with pin lock which helps greatly in humidity. Shield is easy to remove, chin strap easy to operate and feels very secure, and is overall comfortable. Great that it is DOT and SNELL certified and comes with emergency release, great features for the price. Highly recommended!!!! Oct 8, 2014
David L: Hi-Vis yellow that also matches my black leathers. Aug 5, 2014

Brian M: I've owned Shoei helmets and I'm looking forward to the upgrade from my RF10000. Your price and quick shipping is just the icing on the cake. Jul 17, 2014
Ty D: I wanted an arai because I love their history of safety and i like the plush interior. But I couldn't find an arai that properly and comfortably fit my head. I tried schuberth and shoei. Shoei had the best feel. Shoei simply fit my head the best. I got the hi viz yellow because I'm new to riding and I want to be as safe and visible as I can be. Shoei has great reviews and is usually mentioned right along with arai when discussing premium helmets. I hope I made I good choice. Jul 11, 2014
LOUIS D: It was time for a new helmet. I have worn a Shoei RF 900 for many years and this helmet has great air flow and is light weight. The inside of helmet separates easily and has pre cut aways for my speakers. I am sure I will be using this helmet for the next 10 years or so. Jun 15, 2014
Jane H: Best helmet I've owned. Extremely light, ventilation is spectacular! Apr 24, 2014
Nathaneal M: looks dope (and safe) Apr 23, 2014
Sabrina Q: I bought this helmet for my husband. I think It will look great with is Black and Red Honda CBR 1000rr. He has never had a high quality helmet and I want piece of mind knowing that his head is as safe as it can be. Plus the design just looks awesome. Apr 8, 2014
fred b: Past time to replace my older Shoei helmet which is too loud on the latest bike (Ducati ST4). Great reviews, versatile design suited to both the Ducati and my R1100RT. Matches the dayglow/black Kilimanjaro jacket I bought here last fall. Apr 3, 2014
L Y: New design for Shoei. I thought about fitment, the size of the shield and the way it fits. The RF-1200 is a little louder than the RF-1100. I do like the recessed areas to place my speakers for my bluetooth though. Apr 3, 2014
A s: Top quality product. Sexy Mar 25, 2014
Alfonso T: I've Been a long time fan of the RF series. Ive owned Both the RF1000 and RF1100. The RF-1200 seemed to be a no brainer as the helmets are light, great ventilation, loaded with features, and great Visibility. I got the RF1200 because its a rock solid helmet. I got the Beacon because it's BAD ASS!!! Mar 2, 2014
Alastair D: Shoei reputation, fit and graphics Feb 28, 2014
L Y: The helmet will stand out against my green bike and yellow jacket. Jan 18, 2014

"" ": Hey Don,
I measured right around 23 inches as well and went with a Medium. I'm actually lucky enough to work close to Revzilla, so I tried on a ton of helmets until I chose this one. The guys that work there are unbelievably knowledgable and they said most people ride with helmets too large for their heads. Funny thing is I've had four Shoei race helmets in my life and all of them were Larges. Switching to the Medium made me realize how much better they work when they seal off against your face and ears, much quieter when they fit as well. BTW- You're going to love the pinlock shield.

Kevin H: I went the size smaller, but have not used it on the road yet....bit cold right now in Michigan. I did wear it around the house for more than a couple of hours though. Seems like it will be fine.

Renting a bike in Las Vegas next week, so the true test will be then, wearing it all day

Clay R: I was just at the top of a medium size. I ordered the medium and it was too small. Rev exchanged it for a large and it fit much better. It was pretty snug early, but it's breaking in nicely. Mar 7, 2014

Mike Z: Get the medium. a tad tight, but will loosen up. best to have a tight helmet. It is a great helmet. Check out sizing by Jay Leno on you tube. Much better to have tight than loose. Mar 8, 2014

Charles Y asked: The matte finish looks great but how durable is it compared to a glossy finish? Does it get scuffs/scratches easier? Jan 4, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jakob M: I'd have to say it's extremely durable. I've never had a glossy black, but it's awesome. This is a "buy the right size and cheek pads and don't worry about anything else" type of helmet. Everything about this helmet is awesome.
Super comfy!

Michael G: I was also unsure about the color so I scoped it out at a local shop. In person it looks more orange than I expected, especially when compared to the reds used in other helmets. It looks cool but I'm probably going to end up going with something that better matches the rest of my gear. Nov 5, 2013

Nicholas A: Sorry for the delay question went into junk email. I actually just bought the SMH 10R and will be installing today. On previous Shoei helmets I installed Cardo systems with no problem. I am assuming that even with the cutouts this will not be a problem.
