Shoei RF-1200 Beacon Helmet

Combining visibility and style, the Shoei RF 1200 Beacon Helmet is like a light out of the darkness. The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2010 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Shoei RF-1200 Beacon Helmet 4.8 5 546 546
This helmet is perfect, for me at least. Before purchasing this helmet, I was riding with a generic brand helmet, GMax. There are no comparisons here. I have the Hi-Viz red helmet. All my friends spot me via the helmet, I'm hoping all the other drivers on the road do as well ('tis why I bought it). It also fits perfectly. I don't have anything negative to say about the helmet. Great air flow, fits perfect, very wide view, looks awesome and can be easily spotted. Was a great purchase. Haven't rode on the interstate with it yet, just use it for commuting at the moment. Great helmet overall: Versatile, very safe, and comfortable. * My previous helmet was a Modular Bell Revolver that I bought on sale. The switch to this helmet was extremely noticeable. From the minute I put this helmet on I was putting high quality. Ventilation: I think is great. Enough for riding in the summer comfortably and enough to having the vents close at 60 F Comfort: Very comfortable! the lining inside shapes to the form of your head. Safety: Snell Approve. I have the Beacon HIgh-Viz so I am always very noticeable, specially at night. I am so glad I got this beacon coloring because it does reflect light and trust me, cars and just about everyone can see you better!. Plus it looks amazing! is also a lot better than my previous helmet in terms of visibility. You get a wider range of vision horizontally as well as vertically. And the head checks are so much easier to make because of the shape and aesthetics of the helmet. Noise level: Definitely much quieter than my Bell but not as quite as I expected. Nonetheless, I am very happy with the noise level. You want a helmet that is going to let you listen to some noise outside. Looks: I love the shape and style. Is aesthetically pleasing I think. Bluetooth ready: I install a Senna SMHr bluetooth headset and it is perfect. Conclusion: Although it s on the pricy side, I love this helmet. I think they could reduce the price, but then again you get what you pay for and this helmet is just worth the money for the protection you get. My only con is that it does not have as many feature as other helmets I was considering. But then again, you give that up for a more safe and comfortable helmet. Totally worthy in my opinion. Love it Love this helmet. My melon is right between a large and an XL. Tried on the large locally, and could barely get it on. XL was still tight, but I bought the 31mm cheek pads, and everything got right with the world (wish it had come with them in the first place, but oh well). Vision is excellent. Pinlock works great. I've found that the noise is better with the chin skirt in place (no surprise there). Vents work well in South Texas summer heat. I've had multiple comments from people about how easy this helmet is to see in traffic - makes me feel good cause that's one of the reasons I bought the Beacon in the first place. Revzilla was $80 cheaper than the local shop. Shipping was no problem, arrived quickly and in good condition. I'm to the point where if I need something, I check here first, and if they don't have it, I don't need it..... September 14, 2015
Slick design This helmet is attractive and has a decent amount of features. I've got a lot of complements. The pinlock is an okay feature, not totally necessary for around town riding. Sunglasses and glasses fit nicely. The cheekpads are a little tight at first but wore in after a while. I tried a medium on and it was way too tight so I got the large and it fits perfectly. I'm usually a medium so I would suggest getting a size up from your normal. It fits fairly snug all around and even comes with a chin windscreen to keep air and some noise out. The visor can be adjusted to stay in place in any position which is very nice. I wish the back vents were a little more obvious when opened or closed. There's a lot of similar helmets out there for cheaper but it's all the little things on this one that made it worth the money. October 2, 2015
Beautiful and comfortable! I purchased this helmet for ATV riding, so my ratings are probably different than someone who's using it for the street. This helmet is light weight, comfortable and stylish! It is quiet and we use our Sena radios while riding without issue. It can tend to fog up a little at slow speeds - it was clearly built for speed! I wanted a comfortable lightweight helmet for ATV riding, and if I could change one thing it would be to get a bit more air flow through at lower speeds (trail riding). It wasn't cheap, but it was worth the price for me. October 1, 2015
Needle in a haystack. I can't leave a review for this product without first acknowledging the incredible support and customer service I received from Ethan and Jon @ RZ. I'm a new rider and first time helmet buyer, and they answered all of my questions, looked at photos of my head shape, and provided valuable input in the decision making process. I was considering a few helmets (Bell Star, Arai Signet-Q, among others) before choosing this RF-1200, and though it is still less than a month old - I have no regrets. But, I was overwhelmed at first with how many choices there were... I ordered the SM and MD because my head size is 56cm Intermediate Oval, and that puts me right in the middle of the two sizes. Out of the box, the MD was much more comfortable. But after watching several videos, reading many sizing guides, and asking a ton of questions, I realized that the SM was a better (read: safer) fit. My skin moved with the helmet when I moved it, I couldn't touch the chin bar to my chin, I couldn't slide the helmet off, etc. After a few days, the firmness of the liner and cheek pads has given a little, and the fit is comfortably snug. My ratings above may be skewed since I have no comparison, but here's my logic: BANG - Shoei is a top quality brand, and this is one of their top helmets. The quality and features are commensurate with helmets from other brands that go for hundreds more. STYLE - sporty without being aggressively race oriented and classic without looking like a bubble head. COMFORT - answered that above. It IS snug at first, but it is incredibly comfortable once the interior starts to break in a bit. PROTECTION - hopefully I never have to experience this firsthand, but again, everything I heard and read suggests it's top notch, SNELL 2015 and DOT-certified too. AIRFLOW - seems decent, but I haven't been on too many rides at speed yet. There are plenty of accessible vents though. FEATURES - I like the idea of the emergency cheekpad release system, but again, I hope I never have to use it. NOISE LEVEL - This is my first helmet and my first bike. I'm used to riding road cycles and hitting the drops at 40mph is loud. I have no benchmark, but the Shoei definitely makes it quieter than wearing nothing! September 29, 2015
Good Helmet!! Love it This is my first helmet. My head is round, but with flat forehead, so it is not too tight for my forehead. But it is tight on my cheek.(Like I have to stretch my interior cheek muscle slightly against the pad, so I don't bite it with my teeth) It is easy to put on my glass, and the noise level is quiet (I have a loud motorcycle, because pre-owner had a shorty pipe on) I strongly recommend it. September 28, 2015
Phantasm graphics are awesome This helmet fits very comfortably. Air flow is not that noticeable but does work. Air flow might be different for me because of +100*F temps. With all vents open this helmet is somewhat noisy. No worse then any other helmet I have owned. Not sure if something like a Sena bluetooth would have good sound with the wind noise. I wear ear plugs so does this really matter? Field of view is really good. I like the thick shield and the mechanism is solid. I have the Phantasm graphic and it looks really trick. Great helmet besides the wind noise but with ear plugs no problems. September 27, 2015

Travis K: I needed a quiet, premium helmet as an upgrade. Based on reviews and design, this was the best fit for me. Nov 11, 2014
Chelsey M: Was crossed between a shoei and the Icon ghost carbon just for the look, in the end the shoei had more features than just looks and will most likely be more comfortable. Oct 24, 2014
David F: The quality of Shoei cannot be beat, and the RF-1200 is hands down the best bang for your buck, add some killer graphics like the beacon(DARTH MAUL SITH LORD) and you have yourself a winner. The RF-1200 offers quite a few badass graphics, and it was a tough decision between this one and phantasm, but the red and black went better with my color scheme or red white and black so this won, but I'd be happy with either one. Thank you Anthony for the great videos. Truly helped me make the decision Oct 21, 2014
L A: Amazing in all categories! Great ventilation, low wind noise, very light, very reflective in both day and night, and also super cool! Comes with pin lock which helps greatly in humidity. Shield is easy to remove, chin strap easy to operate and feels very secure, and is overall comfortable. Great that it is DOT and SNELL certified and comes with emergency release, great features for the price. Highly recommended!!!! Oct 8, 2014

Brian M: I've owned Shoei helmets and I'm looking forward to the upgrade from my RF10000. Your price and quick shipping is just the icing on the cake. Jul 17, 2014
Ty D: I wanted an arai because I love their history of safety and i like the plush interior. But I couldn't find an arai that properly and comfortably fit my head. I tried schuberth and shoei. Shoei had the best feel. Shoei simply fit my head the best. I got the hi viz yellow because I'm new to riding and I want to be as safe and visible as I can be. Shoei has great reviews and is usually mentioned right along with arai when discussing premium helmets. I hope I made I good choice. Jul 11, 2014
LOUIS D: It was time for a new helmet. I have worn a Shoei RF 900 for many years and this helmet has great air flow and is light weight. The inside of helmet separates easily and has pre cut aways for my speakers. I am sure I will be using this helmet for the next 10 years or so. Jun 15, 2014
Jane H: Best helmet I've owned. Extremely light, ventilation is spectacular! Apr 24, 2014
Nathaneal M: looks dope (and safe) Apr 23, 2014
Sabrina Q: I bought this helmet for my husband. I think It will look great with is Black and Red Honda CBR 1000rr. He has never had a high quality helmet and I want piece of mind knowing that his head is as safe as it can be. Plus the design just looks awesome. Apr 8, 2014
fred b: Past time to replace my older Shoei helmet which is too loud on the latest bike (Ducati ST4). Great reviews, versatile design suited to both the Ducati and my R1100RT. Matches the dayglow/black Kilimanjaro jacket I bought here last fall. Apr 3, 2014
L Y: New design for Shoei. I thought about fitment, the size of the shield and the way it fits. The RF-1200 is a little louder than the RF-1100. I do like the recessed areas to place my speakers for my bluetooth though. Apr 3, 2014
A s: Top quality product. Sexy Mar 25, 2014
Alfonso T: I've Been a long time fan of the RF series. Ive owned Both the RF1000 and RF1100. I got the Beacon because it's BAD ASS!!! Mar 2, 2014

John D: I liked this helmet, but it did not fit well and found the GT Air with a sun shield, so I exchanged it for one of those. Oct 27, 2013

Chalmer B: For me it hasn't been a problem. Getting the earpieces by the cheekpads and over my ears is a bit of a challenge. But if I gently work them around, and then gently pull the helmet in different directions, they fall into place. Once they're in there, they stay put!

Note: my face is kinda round, and I found that the 35mm cheekpads that came with it were too big. Bought the 31mm pads, and the world is groovy. Perfect fit - snug but not uncomfortable.

"" ": Hey Don,
I measured right around 23 inches as well and went with a Medium. I'm actually lucky enough to work close to Revzilla, so I tried on a ton of helmets until I chose this one. The guys that work there are unbelievably knowledgable and they said most people ride with helmets too large for their heads. Funny thing is I've had four Shoei race helmets in my life and all of them were Larges. Switching to the Medium made me realize how much better they work when they seal off against your face and ears, much quieter when they fit as well. BTW- You're going to love the pinlock shield.

Kevin H: I went the size smaller, but have not used it on the road yet....bit cold right now in Michigan. I did wear it around the house for more than a couple of hours though. Seems like it will be fine.

Renting a bike in Las Vegas next week, so the true test will be then, wearing it all day

Clay R: I was just at the top of a medium size. I ordered the medium and it was too small. Rev exchanged it for a large and it fit much better. It was pretty snug early, but it's breaking in nicely. Mar 7, 2014

Mike Z: Get the medium. a tad tight, but will loosen up. best to have a tight helmet. It is a great helmet. Check out sizing by Jay Leno on you tube. Much better to have tight than loose. Mar 8, 2014

A shopper asked: Is the yellow Beacon more visible than the solid "Brilliant Yellow" RF-1200? Jun 12, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
"" ": I had similar questions when I was looking into these helmets. I'm fortunate enough to live close to the RevZilla showroom, so I was able to see these up close prior to purchasing one. The real difference is nearly impossible to see in pictures or artificail lights, but as soon as you see them in person you can tell that Hi-Viz is completely different than bright or brilliant yellow. The sales guy even took a couple outside for me to see in direct sun light. Side by side the differences are significant. I'm not exactly a fan of the graphic design on my beacon, but I will say the Hi-Viz makes people take a second look before pulling out on me. Jun 15, 2015

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jakob M: I'd have to say it's extremely durable. I've never had a glossy black, but it's awesome. This is a "buy the right size and cheek pads and don't worry about anything else" type of helmet. Everything about this helmet is awesome.
Super comfy!

Michael G: I was also unsure about the color so I scoped it out at a local shop. In person it looks more orange than I expected, especially when compared to the reds used in other helmets.
