Shoei RF-1200 Beacon Helmet

Combining visibility and style, the Shoei RF 1200 Beacon Helmet is like a light out of the darkness. The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2010 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Shoei RF-1200 Beacon Helmet 4.8 5 570 570
Upgraded from a previous generation Great Helmet. Upgraded from an older generation of this helmet and love the features. November 25, 2015
Great helmet - helped me survive a crash First time I'd bought a Shoei and now it certainly won't be the last. It helped me survive an accident with very little issues on my head. Had no neck problems, a sore jaw for a couple of days, and a light concussion. It would've been a whole lot worse if I were wearing a lower grade helmet like I used to have. Rode a little over 14k miles with this and loved this helmet. Removable padding so you can clean it, spots for speakers for a bluetooth headset, and very comfortable, especially after you break it in. November 25, 2015
Quiet, high quality helmet Purchased primarily for my wife who is new to motorcycling. She does not like wind noise and this helmet is very quiet. I like the styling, color quality (metallic silver) and safety rating. November 23, 2015
Love this helmet I ride mostly sport touring on a BMW R1200RT and wear a Shoei Neotec, but I also have a K1200S and the Neotec just wasn't cutting it on that bike. Bought the RF1200 and it was just what I needed for more sporty riding. Initially I wanted a lighter helmet than the RF1200, but that meant spending pretty big bucks. I was surprised though when I put on this helmet; it is balanced so well that it feels lighter than it is, and it isn't a real heavy helmet to begin with. Great field of view and air flow. November 23, 2015
Bought a second helmet after the first saved a life! Over a year ago, I bought this helmet for my boyfriend for his birthday. We went on vacation and only a couple of days of wearing the helmet, the day after his birthday, he crashed. His helmet left a 20'-30' white streak in the pavement. The helmet didn't crack and it took a good hit. The forks on his 1000rr had an issue and he lost control going through a turn, the bike went into the woods through the trees and he bounced off of the guard rail and slid down the road. The helmet saved his life. This was his first real accident in his 10 years of riding and I thank God he had this helmet. The paramedics were surprised he was up walking around when they arrived. Road rash from his jacket riding up while sliding and a broken ankle because he wasn't wearing boots. It was an awful crash. He was so upset that his new helmet was ruined, but glad it saved his life. So, this year for his birthday, I bought him another red, white, and blue RF-1200 dominance helmet to replace his other one. He REALLY loved his helmet, so obviously I had to get the same exact one. No one could believe I spent so much on another helmet only a year later, but when you love someone and you think about where you would be without them, then the price tag seems so miniscule. The paramedic at the accident told him he owed me a ring, but I think he made sure to "forget" that part. ;) No ladies, this helmet won't help you get a ring even if it does it's job! He answered the questions above for this review and raves about it to everyone he talks to. "I never get really hot in this helmet, there's no noise on the highway, it doesn't shake like my previous helmet (not shoei), and it fits perfectly. Oh, and it saved my life last time by taking a brutal fall and sliding for a 'few' feet!" Now we both have Shoei helmets! November 16, 2015
Very good helmet I have been wearing Scorpion for the last 5 years and I thought they were pretty good. Then I tried this Shoei. It's another class. It feels like I am not wearing a helmet. The pinlock works like a charm. No fogging whatsoever. It felt a bit snug but after only 3 rides it already starts to feel better. It's as quiet as the scorpion. I cannot rate durability but it looks well made (that's why the rsting given). Plus it has 5 years warranty. I would highly recommend. Worth every penny and then some November 16, 2015
Great Helmet for the Money. I searched for hours on finding a helmet that would fit me right. I did think this helmet would be a little less loud than it is but the airflow is second to none. Cleaning is a breeze and the fit was just right. Give it to Shoei for crafting an awesome lid protector! November 16, 2015
Great helmet - Stylish and Quiet I have always had Shoei helmets as I love the quality, features, and looks. I had to buy a new helmet as I crashed on the race track and had to replace my old Shoei. I cannot say enough about Shoei's helmet check service as they are quick to scan the helmet and get it back to you after a crash. The first time it happened they checked it and everything was okay so it did not have to be replaced, however that was not the case with the latest one. Each time my head was well protected so it was no doubt that I was going to go with a Shoei again. The only issue I had with fit was the cheek pads were too tight. I bought the thinner cheek pads and made the fit perfect all the way around. This helmet replaced my old RF-1100 and really enjoy how much quieter this helmet is as I use it for both track and commuting purposes. It also has much better air flow so overall I am happy with this upgrade. I also use a communicator on my helmet and was able to install with little trouble. The chin bar is closer than the RF-1100 so the mic is so close that if you move your mouth around you may rub up against it. It is not a big deal, but something to be aware of. November 16, 2015

Travis K: I needed a quiet, premium helmet as an upgrade. Based on reviews and design, this was the best fit for me. Nov 11, 2014
Chelsey M: Was crossed between a shoei and the Icon ghost carbon just for the look, in the end the shoei had more features than just looks and will most likely be more comfortable. Oct 24, 2014
David F: The quality of Shoei cannot be beat, and the RF-1200 is hands down the best bang for your buck, add some killer graphics like the beacon(DARTH MAUL SITH LORD) and you have yourself a winner. The RF-1200 offers quite a few badass graphics, and it was a tough decision between this one and phantasm, but the red and black went better with my color scheme or red white and black so this won, but I'd be happy with either one. Thank you Anthony for the great videos. Truly helped me make the decision Oct 21, 2014
L A: Amazing in all categories! Great ventilation, low wind noise, very light, very reflective in both day and night, and also super cool! Comes with pin lock which helps greatly in humidity. Shield is easy to remove, chin strap easy to operate and feels very secure, and is overall comfortable. Great that it is DOT and SNELL certified and comes with emergency release, great features for the price. Highly recommended!!!! Oct 8, 2014

Brian M: I've owned Shoei helmets and I'm looking forward to the upgrade from my RF10000. Your price and quick shipping is just the icing on the cake. Jul 17, 2014
Ty D: I wanted an arai because I love their history of safety and i like the plush interior. But I couldn't find an arai that properly and comfortably fit my head. I tried schuberth and shoei. Shoei had the best feel. Shoei simply fit my head the best. I got the hi viz yellow because I'm new to riding and I want to be as safe and visible as I can be. Shoei has great reviews and is usually mentioned right along with arai when discussing premium helmets. I hope I made I good choice. Jul 11, 2014
LOUIS D: It was time for a new helmet. I have worn a Shoei RF 900 for many years and this helmet has great air flow and is light weight. The inside of helmet separates easily and has pre cut aways for my speakers. I am sure I will be using this helmet for the next 10 years or so. Jun 15, 2014
Jane H: Best helmet I've owned. Extremely light, ventilation is spectacular! Apr 24, 2014
Nathaneal M: looks dope (and safe) Apr 23, 2014
Sabrina Q: I bought this helmet for my husband. I think It will look great with is Black and Red Honda CBR 1000rr. He has never had a high quality helmet and I want piece of mind knowing that his head is as safe as it can be. Plus the design just looks awesome. Apr 8, 2014
fred b: Past time to replace my older Shoei helmet which is too loud on the latest bike (Ducati ST4). Great reviews, versatile design suited to both the Ducati and my R1100RT. Matches the dayglow/black Kilimanjaro jacket I bought here last fall. Apr 3, 2014
L Y: New design for Shoei. I thought about fitment, the size of the shield and the way it fits. The RF-1200 is a little louder than the RF-1100. I do like the recessed areas to place my speakers for my bluetooth though. Apr 3, 2014
A s: Top quality product. Sexy Mar 25, 2014
Alfonso T: I've Been a long time fan of the RF series. Ive owned Both the RF1000 and RF1100. I got the Beacon because it's BAD ASS!!! Mar 2, 2014

John D: I liked this helmet, but it did not fit well and found the GT Air with a sun shield, so I exchanged it for one of those. Oct 27, 2013
A shopper asked: How does this helmet work if you wear glasses? Jun 28, 2015

Chalmer B: For me it hasn't been a problem. Getting the earpieces by the cheekpads and over my ears is a bit of a challenge. But if I gently work them around, and then gently pull the helmet in different directions, they fall into place. Once they're in there, they stay put!

Note: my face is kinda round, and I found that the 35mm cheekpads that came with it were too big. Bought the 31mm pads, and the world is groovy. Perfect fit - snug but not uncomfortable.

"" ": Hey Don,
I measured right around 23 inches as well and went with a Medium. I'm actually lucky enough to work close to Revzilla, so I tried on a ton of helmets until I chose this one. The guys that work there are unbelievably knowledgable and they said most people ride with helmets too large for their heads. Funny thing is I've had four Shoei race helmets in my life and all of them were Larges. Switching to the Medium made me realize how much better they work when they seal off against your face and ears, much quieter when they fit as well. BTW- You're going to love the pinlock shield.

Kevin H: I went the size smaller, but have not used it on the road yet....bit cold right now in Michigan. I did wear it around the house for more than a couple of hours though. Seems like it will be fine.

Renting a bike in Las Vegas next week, so the true test will be then, wearing it all day

Clay R: I was just at the top of a medium size. I ordered the medium and it was too small. Rev exchanged it for a large and it fit much better. It was pretty snug early, but it's breaking in nicely. Mar 7, 2014

Mike Z: Get the medium. a tad tight, but will loosen up. best to have a tight helmet. It is a great helmet. Check out sizing by Jay Leno on you tube. Much better to have tight than loose. Mar 8, 2014

A shopper asked: Is the yellow Beacon more visible than the solid "Brilliant Yellow" RF-1200? Jun 12, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
"" ": I had similar questions when I was looking into these helmets. I'm fortunate enough to live close to the RevZilla showroom, so I was able to see these up close prior to purchasing one. The real difference is nearly impossible to see in pictures or artificail lights, but as soon as you see them in person you can tell that Hi-Viz is completely different than bright or brilliant yellow. The sales guy even took a couple outside for me to see in direct sun light. Side by side the differences are significant. I'm not exactly a fan of the graphic design on my beacon, but I will say the Hi-Viz makes people take a second look before pulling out on me. Jun 15, 2015

Miguel C: Thank you so much. This is exactly what I wanted to know. Jun 18, 2015

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jakob M: I'd have to say it's extremely durable. I've never had a glossy black, but it's awesome. This is a "buy the right size and cheek pads and don't worry about anything else" type of helmet. Everything about this helmet is awesome.
Super comfy!

Michael G: I was also unsure about the color so I scoped it out at a local shop. In person it looks more orange than I expected, especially when compared to the reds used in other helmets. It looks cool but I'm probably going to end up going with something that better matches the rest of my gear. Nov 5, 2013

Nicholas A: Sorry for the delay question went into junk email. I actually just bought the SMH 10R and will be installing today. On previous Shoei helmets I installed Cardo systems with no problem. I am assuming that even with the cutouts this will not be a problem.
