Aerodynamic Shell Design:

  • Aerodynamic properties are maximized through extensive wind tunnel and professional riders’ feedback
  • Dual-layer EPS liner enhances impact absorption and ventilation
  • Third generation tail fin, integrated into the bottom rear beading in combination with the shell-integrated spoiler, allows smooth airflow that reduces drag and lift

Lightweight Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus (AIM+)

  • High performance fiber materials are combined with extremely elastic organic fibers to create a shell structure that is ultra lightweight, rigid and resilient

CW-1 Face Shield and Q.R.S.A. System

  • Three-dimensionally curved CW-1 face shield both wider and taller than the CX-1V it replaced
  • Q.R.S.A. base plate allows for tool-less face shield removal and installation
  • Every time the shield is lowered, the spring-loaded base plate pulls the shield back to contact the window beading evenly, ensuring a proper seal between shield and helmet
  • Scratch-resistant coating
  • 99.9% protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays
  • Pre-set lever can easily lock the shield  in place to prevent the shield from opening unexpectedly, as well as prop the shield open to increase airflow

Variable Ventilation System

  • Upper air intake vent is positioned to maximize air volume into the helmet interior
  • Top outlet vent is separate from the shell-integrated spoiler, allowing it to be positioned for optimum flow-through ventilation
  • Four rear outlet vents allow for adjustment of airflow based on riding position
  • Enlarged lower air intake/defroster vent reduces shield fogging and increases ventilation
  • Rear/neck outlets allow for effective air exhaust

Interior System

  • Entire interior lining (cheek pads, crown liner and chin strap covers) is easily removed to allow cleaning
  • Each component of the inner liner is ergonomically designed to offer the ultimate in safety, fit and comfort
  • Eyeglass compatible
  • Breath guard and chin curtain included

Tech Specs

  • Weight: 3.9 pounds / 1770 grams
  • DOT and Snell M2015 approved

Shoei RF-1100 Helmet - 3XL Only 4.7 5 715 715
Quality Helmet, Good Fit This is my second Shoei helmet (The other is a RF-1000). Fit and visibility are excellent. The weight is not heavy and it has very good ventilation. October 21, 2015
Awesom I have worn Shoei for years and was way overdue for a new one this time. Revzilla had the best price on this great helmet. I look forward to many years of great use (and I will try to keep it to the recommended many years this time). March 30, 2015
The difference is night and day My previous and consequently my first helmet is the HJC CL-16, which is a good helmet. However, the RF-1100 is just leaps and bounds a superior helmet. The first noticeable difference is the overall quality. You can tell the difference by just looking at the helmet. Secondly is the weight, the Shoei is much lighter. The shield mechanism works beautifully, etc, etc, etc. The helmet truly shines while riding, my head does not get thrown around as easily as with the hjc, the hjc was solid till about 90but the shoei felt smooth up to 135 which is the fastest I've gone on my bike. The venting is phenomenal, with all the vents open I can feel the wind circulating through my hair. Consequently that makes the helmet somewhat loud, but ear plugs/headphones resolve that. I have put somewhere around 3-4k miles on the helmet, it would have been more but winter rain has slowed my riding to roughly once per week. 10/10 p.s I use a balaclava in colder weather, it really helps. January 27, 2015
Chemical Smell Revzilla was great at delivering and exchanging for correct size. After owning the helmet for a few months the noticeable chemical smell I detected each time I put it on had not dissipated (I had assumed it would dissipate). Seems like an organic glue or solvent type smell to me (sort of like uncured resin). I contacted Revzilla who said I would need to deal with Shoei. After several calls to Shoei the best help I was offered was, "you can ship it to our repair center, but we won't find anything wrong with it; you should wear it more, once it smells more of sweat you won't notice any other smells." Sigh, I've owned 3 previous Shoei helmets without a problem like this, and I expected Shoei to be a company with excellent product support. Based on this experience, I can't recommend ANY Shoei product. They were dismissive of my concerns, occasionally rude (arguing with me about my definition of a solvent-type smell) and unwilling to help. November 28, 2014
An excellent choice This is my first helmet so I have nothing else to compare it to except for about 8 other brands/ models I've tried on. Build quality is excellent, I purchased the matte finish and its held up well when it comes to scuffs and other marks. Easy to keep clean, visor removal takes 2 seconds, and the helmet is holding up great after 1 season/ 5k miles. No complaints, except it would be nice to have a drop down visor system like some other helmets- but this is Shoei's more basic model. A little loud on the freeway over 65mph on my naked bike but nothing terrible. Overall a great helmet, especially at the $280 clearance I caught it at before they discontinued it! November 1, 2014
Long time Shoei wearer, great helmet. At 69 years of age, wasn't sure I'd want a helmet with "graphics", but the silver design complements my bike, and the 1100 is a great helmet. Overall, quieter, lighter and with better fit than the RF-800 I've worn for probably too many years. The stock cheekpads were too tight, but after installing 31mm pads, the fit is perfect. November 3, 2014
I love this helmet! Fits great and light weight. It is a little loud at high speeds but all helmets are probably noisy. It does fog up a little bit if stopped but I can crack the visor to get air flow. The air flow vents don't really make a difference if opened. Overall it's a great helmet. October 30, 2014
Great Quality If your looking for a quality helmet that you can wear 8-12 hours a day look no further. This is for my fiancée and she loves it. I will still give Arai a slight edge for having slightly clearer face shields. Otherwise very similar build quality. October 23, 2014

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Clifford S: Currently own a Shoei RF-1000 helmet. Excellent fit, lightweight and comfortable to wear. Quality is unparalleled. Hopefully, will never need to find out how protective it is. Oct 1, 2015
Benedictus P: Bobby in Philly store guided me on helmet choice and he was spot on. Invaluable expertise offered led to a great fit, a top quality product and a decent price. Shoei quality is evident. Unbeknownst to me, I came to the showroom wearing a 20 year old Shoei that was still in great shape so it was obvious that they are very well-made. The RF 1100 had great venting, a visor that worked well, plush interior, and the action of vents and visor was very good. Aug 28, 2015
Craig M: was a great fitting helmet Aug 18, 2015
J U: Looking for an escape from fish face. My noggin is too big for this one too, unfortunately. Aug 14, 2015
Daniel H: By far the most comfortable and best rated helmet at the time. In addition they just released the rf 1200 so I got this at a steal! Jul 9, 2015
Brandon B: Highly rated helmet, comfortable, not too noisy. Sep 11, 2014
CHIKIN S: 1st helmet Sep 11, 2014
William K: This is the only helmet made that really fits me. Now discontinued. The new RF1200 2XL in uncomfortably tight. Aug 31, 2014
Kerry B: Reputation, fit, airflow and comfort. Great Helmet. Still using it. Aug 29, 2014
Raymond S: I chose the Shoei RF-1100 because I find Shoei helmets fit my head shape and I have had good experience with the RVF, RF900 and RF1000. Aug 11, 2014
Robert S: Shoei is one of the best helmet makers in the business. I was considering a full face helmet for cold weather commuting and the price on the RF-1100 was too good to pass up on. Top of the line quality and safety at a bargain price. Jul 21, 2014
Joshua J: Great helmet, great airflow, good sound protection and fits way better than my old one at a good price Jul 17, 2014
Rich H: A quality helmet at a great price. I originally came in to pick up an ICON Airmada but discovered my melon was just a little to large for the opening on that helmet. With this Shoei comparably priced on closeout and a great fit, it was a no brainer on picking this up. Jul 15, 2014
Ryan C: Didn't want to skimp on a helmet. I was looking for quality, performance and comfort. Helmet has great features and I liked the styling as well. Now that the new RF series is out take advantage of the price drop in these and pick one up. They're great helmets. Jun 18, 2014
Wilson L: Got pretty close to a decent fit out of the box for my somewhat exaggerated long oval noggin shape. Head size measured right at the change from Lg to XL, so went with Lg on Revzilla advice. I had to take my thumbs and slightly compress the inner molded insert at a couple places at back and forehead to reduce pressure points. It is a very snug fit even after 4 months of daily use. No headaches, but if it was a fraction tighter, would be a no go. #35 cheek pads were too tight, #33 tight but OK. Jun 14, 2014
Auldrin F: Good reviews and a Shoei! Jun 14, 2014
Alton S: I chose this helmet for it being Snell approved, air ventilation, face shield features and construction. I could have chosen a cheaper helmet that was Snell approved but this helmet won me over with it's features. ALSO and very important, it was on sale and at an outstanding price for what I am getting. Jun 2, 2014
Susannah T: protection, wide vision port May 22, 2014
Christopher P: A friend has this helmet and loves it. I purchased it and feel the same. Great quality helmet with good ventilation without too much wind noise. Also looks great in the matte black. May 6, 2014
Dennis F: Good helmet for the wife. May 1, 2014
Avais M: One of the best helmets i have ever owned. Awesome looking, super comfortable and it was on Sale.! Apr 23, 2014
Louis W: Shoei helmets are quality products and seem to fit me nicely. Apr 22, 2014

Michael H: Old helmet got stolen. Apr 9, 2014
Joel D: Shoei is the best Apr 8, 2014
Ian E: I like the Color and style As well as the fit i like the new 1200 But with my cheekbones and my dreadlocks 11 seem to fit better Apr 6, 2014
Frederick B: Shoei makes a good helmet that I trust. Mar 31, 2014
Robert B: The positive review in Rider magazine coupled with your price Mar 28, 2014
Diane B: This helmet is extremely comfortable and very light. I tried on many helmets and am picky about how they fit, this is a great fit for me. The chin strap site high, so it doesn't cut on my neck, and the padding inside is very soft. Mar 28, 2014
Keith K: I like the style and features. The Shoei name and reputation helped. But what really locked me in was the video review and the no hassle policy here at Revzilla! Mar 24, 2014
Kevin F: Hi,
have been wanting to go full face for some time now. I liked the Nolan, but it really didn't fit right. I found someone not too far away with the Shoei and went and wore one in their shop, liked it, and am now ordering with confidence. thanks
Mar 21, 2014
Daniel K: Tried it on today to confirm fit - would have cost about 430 dollars to purchase locally - could not pass on this price - I thank my friend John for directing me to this site - now it needs to warm up!! Mar 19, 2014
Richard C: The price was awesome but my head did not fit right in the unit. If my head fit right, I would have kept this one. Mar 16, 2014

Brian S: Can't beat the closeout price for a very solid helmet. Mar 5, 2014
Johanna H: First time with Shoei, but excellent price and great QUALITY helmet. My former helmet was an Arai and wore a small, but the sizing charts are a little different between Shoei and Arai so I first tried the Shoei XS, but it was too tight--started getting a headache after wearing it for about 15 minutes--so now getting the next size up. Anand S: Great helmet, Good price! Feb 27, 2014

The Yellow RF-1100 served me well for 4yrs and about 40,000 miles.
Never owned a motorcycle with a windshield, so the Shoei is first line defense.
Light, quiet and water tight.
Jan 18, 2014

Visay S: Upgrade from RF1000 that is about 3 years old Jan 12, 2014
Darren L: Great price with a good reputation Jan 9, 2014
Leonard H: I have always worn Bell helmets, but my wife has a Shoei RF-1000 and loves it. I told myself when it came time to retire my current helmet, I'd give Shoei a consideration. My primary considerations were quality of fit and protection and I wanted Hi Viz. At these prices, you can't go wrong for a higher end helmet. I have a few riding buddies who swear by the brand, so I am stoked to see the snow season give way to spring and try it out. Jan 8, 2014

Tom D: I have had 10 bikes in the last 12 years, and one helmet. The RF-800. It just fits. I wish I could just keep wearing it. But it's not safe anymore. At $440 this helmet isn't a bargain, but it is a VERY good product. At $279? You're crazy not to grab one. Dec 2, 2013
S U: Price and snell approved. Also reviews and good air flow. Dec 2, 2013
JULIAN G: It was recommended to me from someone from your staff. Also because I really like it Nov 30, 2013
Eduardo P: Bang for the bucks! quality/price is excellent Nov 29, 2013
Ray R: I chose Shoei knowing the heritage of the brand, and after trying on a Qwest model helmet (my brother's). The comfortable fit, good vision, and riding in a more of a sport-oriented position, I selected the RF-1100. At this closeout price, it will be my new favorite alternate to a painted Arai RX-Q (Italy graphics). Nov 29, 2013
J E: This is my second shoeii rf1100 after I got in an accident wearing my last one. I landed face down on the pavement and slid, the asphalt left deep scratches on my visor and the front of the helmet, but walked away without even a minor concussion. So I went out and bought another shoi. I don't understand why anyone who rides seriously would ever not wear a full face hlmet. Nov 29, 2013

After weeks of research I chose one of the world's best quality helmets and the R.I.P. sale price only sweetened the deal. Benjamin K: Excellent helmet. Fits nicely, ventilation control is excellent, visor replacement is kind of expensive but swap is easy. Bought a white one and got it painted as I was not totally impressed with the styles. As for the solid's finish, actually pretty nice. Slight whistle at a very specific angle with only the front two vents open, not a huge deal as I usually wear earplugs and it can be remedied by opening another vent, changing head position, going slightly faster or slower, or ignoring it. Raymond C: A proper fitting helmet is crucial, both size and shape of the head will make a difference. If there's a store nearby, go try them on and see which works better. If you can't do that, I would go with the smaller and see how that works out. With most helmets I've owned the padding will break in and create a little more room. But, if it feels uncomfortably tight out of the box with hotspots/pressure points, you might want to return for a size up. Revzilla is great about returns and exchanges.

Also, search around the internet for how to test if the helmet fit properly when it's on.

Arthur G: In my opinion, it is a balance between safety and comfort. If the RF 1100 is the right shape for you (somewhat oblong head) then I would tend toward the medium. However, one could go for a small and expect a "break-in period for the padding to become more conforming to your head and personal preferences.
Bottom line, it is really preference. I guess I would go for a medium, try it on, and return it if it does not do the job for you. RevZilla is good about returns and credits.

Kevin H: My wife had the same exact issue. Her measurement was exactly what yours is, perfectly placed between Small and Medium. Tony recommended she get the Small and she is very happy with it. The pads will mold to your head over time. The cheek pads were not too tight at all, but fit her nice and snug. We were at the Progressive show in Dallas recently and she tried on other brands in Medium and agreed that the Small just felt more secure. Mar 17, 2014

John O: Hi, as you know helmet size is "mission critical" With the helmet on, it should not move about. The foam should offer such rigidity that the helmet is firm.
RF 1100 is for an oval head...
The Quest is for a round head...
Hope this helps

A shopper asked: The RF-1100 looks like a nice step up from the Qwest, though I'm curious if it would work well riding a cruiser like a Yamaha V-Star when you're in a fully upright position. Apr 23, 2012

xSeanx: the helmet was designed for more of a sport stance. i ride a bonneville but have lower bars on it and it feels pretty good, but when i lift my head up I can feel some lift on it and it is obvious that it was not designed for an upright position. i have a few friends with the qwest who thoroughly enjoy it. Eric W.: Definitely. I had a Qwest and it was a good helmet, but I now ride with 2 RF1100s and just love them. They are a bit noisy, but they move so much more air than anything else I've ever used, that it's entirely worth it to me. RF1100 is my favorite helmet without a doubt. Apr 24, 2012

mwolfman: That was kinda of what I was going to ask, It says it has better airflow than the Qwest, but more for the sport bike position, but will it still provide better airflow than the Qwest in the upright position, or would the Qwest provide better airflow being it is designed more for the upright position. I am still torn between the two and will have an upright bike, but if this will still provide better circulation then this is the one I want over the Qwest. Mar 15, 2013

A shopper asked: My heads circumference measures exactly 22 inches. This falls at the end of the Small size which is 21 5/8-22 inches. Would it be better to go with a Medium or try a Small first? May 4, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
JayB73: My head size falls right about where yours does, 22". I bought the medium and I am very happy with the fit. However, what really matters, is the shape of your head. Is your head shape round, oval, neutral? It doesn't matter what size you get, if the shape isn't equal, it won't be comfortable. I have an oval shaped head and this helmet fits great. If your not sure, you really should find somewhere to try one on if you can. Oct 1, 2012

Matt P: Small first, for sure. I found that the ranges are accurate, at least for my shaped-head, and like most helmets, it will loosen just a bit over time as the pads break-in. Also, you can get thinner pads to give you some more room if the original one don't break in as much as you'd like. Rather have a helmet that too snug, than one that flops around on my head. Just my 2 cents. Nov 5, 2012

RevZilla: Typically we recommend starting with the smaller size in situations where someone falls between sizes or is right at the top of a size range. Based on your head measurement, we would recommend a size Small as the size Medium would likely be too big once the helmet has been ridden in a few times May 8, 2012

Howard J: Not an issue for your bike--either one will be fine. Here's a very good REVZILLA video which discusses various characteristics of helmet design including weight, fit, ventilation, and price-- on Youtube: TqOzwGbjmqI

Unless you're racing, which I doubt, you won't need to consider most of these factors.

John O: Hi, In installed the Sena SMH5 intercom system in my wife's RF1100 and my quest. The felt panels attach with velcro to the inside of the helmet. You gently detach these panels to allow you to route the wires of the SMH5. You will need to fiddle a bit with the ear speaker placement. There is a cavity in the helmet to allow for speakers in which the smh5 fit. Note, the new SMH5 has much better functionality via firmware updates. The installation noted above is robust. The guys at revzilla can help you with the Sena... Safe riding. Apr 29, 2014

A shopper asked: i'm interested in buying this helmet, though i'm concerned about 'expiration date'. is it something that matters or what? Dec 26, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Howard J: If the helmet is stored in a cool, dry, place (along with your meds!) I wouldn't worry about it. Just manufacturer CYA. If it's stored outside or in a damp garage, it's possible the materials could deteriorate and result in failure. With this warning, you can't sue the manufacturer if your helmet falls apart. Most helmets are pretty stinky after 5 years. If you use your helmet regularly, you will want to at least replace the liner. Feb 10, 2014
Reply to Howard Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Solon C: I wouldn't worry about the expiration date. Almost all riders that I know replace their helmets after 4 years (expiration is 5 years) just for the simple fact that they want something different. Also by that time (4 year mark) the technology has advanced enough that a new helmet greatly benefits their riding experience. Jan 21, 2014

neil o: I suggest reading about head shapes in an ARAI helmet fitting guide. It probably contains the most info in one spot. I would suggest measuring your long axis (from front to back) and then the same for your head width. Plot it on paper and draw the oval.
From there it is mostly a guess....remember the generous return policies! FIT IS CRITICAL and you should be very picky. I am glad you are planning to purchase a good helmet. I might add that in addition to always wearing my helmet while riding, it is useful during tornado season here in Oklahoma!

I have owned several RF 1100's and the fit is excellent for me. My head is in my estimation intermediate oval. WebBikeWorld website has an extensive helmet test section and always characterizes the helmet's "shape".

A shopper asked: can you guide me on how to get the right size of helmet , and how do i measure? Feb 9, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Howard J: Measure your head in the mirror above the eyebrows with a cloth tape measure. Then look up that measurement on the manufacturer size chart to find your size.

Better yet, go to the Dealer and try it on first. The helmet should fit snugly and not shift when you shake your head from side-to-side. It should also not sit on top of your head.

The helmet will be snug at first, but will gradually shape to your head. You may want to replace or remove the cheek pads.

Henry K: The helmets are made in Japan and there is a considerable delay between manufacture and their ending up in a warehouse in the USA. While a helmet made in 2010 is a bit old even considering the above, you will still get 5 years of use out of it. Nobody is going to start opening up box after box just to try to find you the newest helmet that they have. A helmet dated a year ago would probably be right off the boat. So if it was made at the end of 2010 then it probably has only been in the warehouse for a short time. Jul 26, 2012
