Impressive Device, Lacks Battery Life I'm a fan of every feature that comes with the camera, from the multiple mounting structures (which I have used a lot of), to the real time audio recording. I think the videos produced are of good quality, and the settings on the device are easily navigated. The one bad thing about this device is its battery life. I can only record ~2hrs at 1080p, which is just too little in my opinion. Yes, you can buy extra battery packs or charge as you go, but that's just a band aid to the actual problem. Changing the frame rate/video quality doesn't gain you that much in longevity either. I would recommend this to someone else with the caveat that it's not a great device for just the average joe user. I think it would really excel if you were vlogging, but for just standard recording it is overpriced for the amount of recording time permitted on one charge. November 16, 2015
BlueTooth Camera Nice BlueTooth camera that comes complete with all possible mounting hardware. Easy to install and use. Excellent when paired with Sena 20S headset! September 14, 2015
Crapped Out After the 12th Day of Use Bought the Prism over a GoPro, being that I had a 20S headset, and was sold on the inter-operability of the two products....first of all, I was never able to pair the Prism with my 20S, and then on the 12th day of an 11k mile 30+ day ride to Alaska, functions on the camera became inoperable, and it would not connect to a computer to upgrade the firmware. Needless to say, I don't know if I'll ever get back to AK, however, I do know I'll never buy another SENA product again after this experience. Btw, the 20S has similar functionality problems, and after the ride, the connection to the helmet mount is not longer consistent, so it will snap crackle and pop in and out of connectivity while riding. First and last SENA purchases! September 2, 2015
Impressive Camera Kit Super impressed with this kit. I love that it includes a robust set of mounting hardware. The Prism alone is weather proof and doesn’t require the water proof case unless you’re planning to use it for water sports. I’m not much of a moto-vlogger but I do like the bluetooth high def audio functionality. Bluetooth controls with audible feedback used with the 20S is also fantastic. To be able to switch to different recording modes using the jog dial wheel and start/stop a recording is excellent. For those who like to record with 720p60 versus 1080p30, you will not be able to take snapshot pictures using the 20S. Although documented in the manual, it wasn’t entirely apparent to me - and Sena support on initial trouble ticket request. I’ve found the iPhone app is useful to make adjustments. After time, I didn’t find it necessary as it’s pretty easy to navigate through the config menus on the Prism itself. Having the ability to easily record/charge the Prism has also been handy. I’ve had a great experience using the time-lapse function during a 1k mile road tour. I’ve found that you can also record/charge on a GoPro but you’ll have to modify the case or cable. The one BIG bite is that you’re NOT able to get an accurate perspective of how the camera is aligned when mounted. GoPro's have wifi and allow you to connect to it with a tablet or phone and monitor the video. There is not a comparable function on the Prism. I generally eye-ball the camera alignment and usually OK with the results, but if you’re picky, you might need to go through a couple video checks withe the mini-HDMI port or review short recordings. I’m glad I picked up this camera. I like the helmet mount option and it’s slim form factor. It would be “nice" if they offered 1080p60 and a way to monitor the video, but I guess I’ve gotten used to not having that functionality. June 29, 2015
Excellent POV camera! I already have a GoPro Hero 3 Black, and have been quite satisfy with the camera. However, I don't want to mount the GoPro on my helmet simply because of its shape and what I have to do to mount it to my helmet. The Prism fits the bill perfectly, especially in regards to mounting to my helmet. I already own the SMH-10, and meshing the Prism to that, and using the SMH-10 as the remote as well as input speaker was a joy. Extremely convenient. The only very mild negative about the Prism is that I cannot listen to music while the Prism is paired with my SMH-10, but that is a really minor issue for me. OTOH, I was able to hear my GPS' voice prompts without any problems, since I made sure to pair my GPS to SMH-10 as "phone". Oh, one other negative! I am paying for a lot of mounts that are provided in the standard package that I will probably never use! SENA should offer the Prism with just the helmet mount, say, at a much lower price point! If they had done that, this camera would be considered perfect!!! April 20, 2015
My SENA PRISM Review I own several other popular action camera models and really prefer the PRISM for clarity and audio (if I choose to add). The price is pretty steep but the additional mounts that are provided are truly worth the extra price. The helmet mount is in fact Best in the Industry. Best thing is the profile is far more suited or streamlined than the others available. Buy it, you will not be disappointed. Also pairs flawlessly to Sena headsets too which is great. Word about Revzilla- absolutely love the site and Customer Service has been great for me so far. March 2, 2015

A shopper asked: Will this camera be compatible with previous Sena Bluetooth 3.0 headsets, such as the SMH10, for voice control operation of the camera and If so, will the previous model headsets contain the exact same functionality as that of the new Sena 20S system which utilizes Bluetooth 4.0 technology? Apr 21, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (8) No (0)
Ricky S: Yes, to try to clarify: You can use any SENA headset (such as theSMH10) to fully control the camera. But understand that the camera is controlled by button pushes and jog dial operation regardless which headset you use. The Sena Prism is NOT voice-controlled in any configuration. The Prism allows voice *recording* from the headset and it can be controlled from the headset controls (buttons/dials) but it does not operate by voice command. It DOES provide voice prompts to you such as "paused" "recording" but to give it a command such as record or take a picture, you'll have to press the dial, etc. Feb 12, 2015

A shopper asked: What type of memory does it use? Can you take extra memory along to change out for extended trips without transferring to a computer? Also is the recording time stated based on battery life or actual video memory time. Thanks Nov 20, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (2) No (0)
Ricky S: The answer above could be misleading. The Prism will NOT SUPPORT SDHC cards, those are full size 1" or so. It will support ONLY the micro SD format in various capacities up to at least 32gig (largest I tried) Feb 5, 2015
Reply to Ricky Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Sena B: The camera is compatible with Micro SD, SDHC or SDXC cards up to 32 GB. You can swap out memory cards by removing the back door and popping out the memory card from the memory card slot. The recording time is based on the battery life of the Prism as the maximum recording time for a memory card depends on the size of the memory card. Nov 24, 2014

Daiver P asked: What is the actual battery time recording 1080 video? Does it have a removable battery so it can be swapped out? Dec 8, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (1) No (0)
Mosey L: removable battery yes, and it can be charged while in use easily through rain proof usb port.
for recording time, my estimate so far from a small test:
it depends on what quality you record at.
On my Sony I used to record at 720p to maximize my card space.
The test I did with the prism was 1080p.
I recorded 19 minutes and 20 seconds and that took 1.87gb.
So my rough math is that a 32gb card will get you 5.25 hours at 1080p.

Sena B: Using a 32GB card, you can record up to 4 hours and 48 minutes at 1080P. Jan 30, 2015
Jang J: Battery time without Bluetooth connection was about 2hrs 30 min. With Bluetooth connected it was about 2 hrs.
Yes. it has a removable battery so it can be swapped out.

Brandon F asked: Does this camera have an automatic overwriting feature? In other words, will it delete the oldest video(s) when it starts to run out of space on the SD card? I would like to use this as a dash cam, but I don't want to have to manually delete videos before every ride. Thanks! Nov 28, 2014

A shopper asked: what actually comes with this camera? like what mounts and cases, i see a variety of them on the actual sena site but i am not sure which ones actually come with the camera. also my main use for this camera is for riding, but my gf wants to use it say as you would a go pro for our next vacation coming up. Do you think the camera will be fine submerged underwater at depths probably up to 10 ft, and will the camera be fine to operate without having it hooked up to an intercom system but just with using the buttons provided on the actual camera? Mar 6, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Bill D: The Sena Prism comes with a surprising amount of accessories you'd normally have to buy separately when you buy a GoPro (AND THEY COME FOR FREE).

It includes:

Two Helmet Mounts
-One Clamp
-One Permanent Sticky
(Both Ball Jointed)

Two Windshield Mounts
-One Duel Suction
-One Permanent Sticky

It also comes with a rechargeable lithium battery and a USB charger.

I would recommend downloading the manual Revzilla provided, because the manual that comes with the produce is an image only sheet, and is not the easiest to figure out.

You WILL need to purchase a micro SD card for the camera, but that comes as an obvious. The camera will not sync nor update without one inserted.

Hope this helped! cheers.

Ricky S: On this page at sena: /product/camera/prism/#tab-in-the-box
Everything is shown, and yes, it includes ALL the QRM mounts AND the Helmet mounts AND the underwater box.

The Prism is rainproof, they say, for normal riding use withOUT the box, but for diving, snorkeling, the box will be needed. The box is good to 40M of depth.

The cam can be used without the intercom. The buttons can do all functions of the camera. For vacation use I would suggest buying extra batteries. Note that there's no external charger, you'll have to use the camera to charge the spare batteries, but each battery will be good for about two hours. a 32GB card for maybe five hours.

Davide D: Every piece that is shown on the Sena website pictures comes with the camera. (click the "in the box tab" for a detailed list)

The waterproof housing seems very well done and according to the box it is waterproof to 40 meters (that's 120 feet). I have not tested this myself but you should be just fine at 10 feet depth.

Operating it without the intercom is not as intuitive but still very easy to do thanks to the display on the camera. Just takes a few minutes to get used to navigating the menus via the buttons.

Kevin B: The camera comes with all the mounts pictured on Sena's site. There are many options. It comes with a water proof case, though I'm not sure what the submersion rating of it is. The camera is easily useable with its included buttons. Messing with settings can be tedious unless you use the smartphone ap. I usually don't pair it with my intercom (20S), as it disables bluetooth music streaming from the phone when paired. Mar 6, 2015
Reply to Kevin Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Alex C: Everything accessory you see on the website comes in the box. Helmet mount, bipod suction cups, flat and curved mounts. It comes with a 40m waterproof case, I would recommend using that when going any more than a few feet. Everything can be accessed by using the two buttons on top much like a go pro. It's comparable with any regular camera/video camera tripod or "selfie stick" Mar 6, 2015

Bill D: Oh, and as an addition, the packet does include a Waterproof casing that is attachable to a mounts. It seems more water resistant than it does proof, but the case seals completely shut when the camera is inserted. Use your judgment when you get it, though. Mar 6, 2015
Reply to Bill Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
A shopper asked: How "water resistant" is it out of the box without the water proof housing?
Does it have an IP rating? (e.g. IP^^, IP67, IP68)

Has anyone been riding their prism in all-weather conditions without the WP housing?

How is it fairing against weather?

I live in seattle and ride all-weather year-round, so "water resistant" is not enough information to tell if it would survive sitting on the side of my helmet while going 70mph in the rain. I have found some IP66 products don't survive the all-weather ride. IP67 and up do.

I am wondering if sena even does IP testing given they don't seem to publish or tout IP ratings, (and that would be a feature to use in terms of marketability and feature bullet points,) and for a product that will live on the outside of a helmet that will be used outside, presumably in different kinds of weather including rain, that is profoundly stupid.

Ricky S: The silly thing is amazingly unfazed by rain. I have two of them mounted on the bike, not behind the fairing. They are NOT in the WP housings and to make it "worse" they don't even have their "backs" in place. The rear cover covers up the back of the cam, hiding the battery, TF card and the HDMI port, but is slotted to allow charging. This, however requires that you use the supplied cable as the cable's tip is extended to be able to reach through the back. I was not using the supplied cables but some longer standard cables, so the backs are off to allow charging with them. I have thousands of miles on them this way. During a recent trip I got caught in a deluge that had Interstate traffic down to 20MPH and it lasted half an hour. I did not have the cams recording (unfortunately) as my cards were full, but they were powered the whole time. I didn't even think about the iPhone in it's Ram mount and it failed due to water about five minutes into the storm. The cameras were completely operational throughout. As soon as I put in fresh cards, they carried on, unhurt. The poor iPhone had to spend two days in a rice bag.
I have probably 10,000 miles with these on my Ultra; I do long rides often; rain never alters my riding and the waterproof cases have never been used.
I've had a couple of minor complaints (rolling shutter, lack of a charger) but not rain issues.
Yes, the Prism is certainly waterproof enough for riding in the rain.

Keith H: Haven't tested its rain proof ness yet. Back cover & charge port seal reasonably well. Rest of the camera looks water resistant, only issue is microphone port beside lens may or may not be water resistant. If I was riding in anything but light intermittent rain I would always use waterproof case. Electronics & water don't mix well. Sep 17, 2015

A shopper asked: I already have n-com b4 on my nolan n-104 helmet. Will it be compatible with Sena prism for bluetooth pairing? Jun 30, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Ricky S: From their website:
The Sena Prism is the first on the action camera market to come fully Bluetooth capable. While the Sena Prism supports full compatibility with Sena motorcycle Bluetooth products including remote audio recording, remote control, voice prompt, and more, it supports other Bluetooth headsets in the market with limited but still affordable functionality.
Bluetooth and Sena make every bit of your adventure sound bigger and better.

Yes...but limited in functionality compared to Sena headsets

A shopper asked: Can I share a video directly from the iPhone app without having to download into computer? Jan 28, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Ricky S: Unfortunately, no. In fact, you can't even see the video in the app. Unlike the wifi equipped GoPros there is no facility in the app to view any Prism Video. The app at this time offers controls and settings only. sucks, doesn't it?
To be fair, Sena has indicated that they are "looking into it"..
I would invite you to read my review here. I am a Sena customer for years and a supporter but the Prism for all its BT promise is not yet ready to take this market. Most of the reviews here are glowing and written week one. Some change later. I'm still hoping for a major re-release and upgrade.

Bob M: That may be one of on the primary reasons I would not consider the Sena, aside from no option to preview. I really like the helmet mount, but it seems a bit odd Sena didn't consider the possibility of riders shooting video in something other than perfect weather. Feb 15, 2015
