The holder is part of the RAM system and works very well.
The holder fits onto the RAM diamond ball bracket. Once screwed together it is as secure as the RAM system. The bracket can be adjusted to hold many different size phones. I adjusted it to work with an iPhone 5S with a Lifeprooof case. The phone can be put in and removed very easily, but once in the holder seems secure. Thus far the has ridden off road in the holder, but I have not fallen with the phone mounted.

Solid mount, no complaints.
This thing is tough. I ride a 2007 ZX6R and this holds my phone very well. I use a GPS speedo app on my phone to help keep the police away, since my bike's speedo is not the most accurate thing(~15mph difference at 70mph).

I have an iPhone6, with an Otterbox Symmetry case, and this RAM Mount still would have room to spare. I just set the sliding side pins with a screwdriver, and the spring loaded hook provides the easy in and out operation.

I mated this cell holder with the "RAM Mounts Brake / Clutch Kit" and it works perfectly on my bike. I mounted it on the clutch side, to keep it more out of the way of the rest of my instruments.

Note, theres really only one, maybe two positions that this set up will work on my specific bike, due to the tight space between the upper fairing and the tank, given full range of the forks. I was able to keep the mount loose and play with the turning range of the forks to find the mounting sweet spot, then just cranked down the tightness on the mount to keep it in place.

Fits iPhone 5S great; iPhone 4 not so much
I use this RAM mount with the Kuryakyn Tech Connect Premium Chrome Handlebar Mount (they fit great together) and it holds an iPhone 5S perfectly with or without a case (I use a Lifeproof Fre case). iPhone 4 (no case) feels loose; maybe with a big case it would work better.
With the iPhone 5S you can even use the camera, but not with the iPhone 4.

Holds Droid Maxx in its case
I have a Droid Maxx in an Incipio case and this holds it firmly in horizontal or vertical position. I use Google maps and this allows me to see the directions and map as I am riding. I also use a speedometer app since my speedometer broke. The spring loaded fingers keeps the phone secure at highway speeds and on bumpy roads. I think the soft rubber case gives additional grip, however. I am not sure how well it would hold a hard case and would not recommend using it on a phone without a case.

Excellent
Holds iPhone6 very well with a otterbox commuter case. Zero worry of it getting away. Easily one of the better purchases for the bike allowing for easy use of gps/music control (at a stop) and to see if you need to take a call or not (young kids at home).

Holds tight, easy to use.
This is the best RAM Mount for almost any smart phone. I have the iPhone 6 and it fits with ease, and the mount can still increase in size. What makes this mount the best is the ability to insert and remove your phone with only one hand, whereas all other RAM mounts require 2 hands. This RAM mount holds onto my phone tight and I never get any wiggle with the phone so I never need to worry about the phone falling out.

Good Product
Pretty good product for the money. Easy to use and set up. Does not come with any instructions, but not that hard to figure out. For the money it's well worth it.

Raul N on Sep 29, 2015
It got good reviews and I like the bottom and top curved cradle. It also looks a lot easier to mount than the other cell phone holder, which looks more complex but not necessarily more functional.

Does this come with a mount or is that an additional purchase?
A S on Apr 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It's just comes with the phone holder. The mount and everything are sold seperatley. Everything else comes in a single package deal or you can get it all individually
Will this universal phone holder hold an Iphone 5 in an otter box? Wondering if the arms are large enough to extend over the otter box?
richard l on Jan 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Richard, I don't know how this compares size-wise with the Iphone but I use this mount with my Galaxy S5 in a Life Proof FRE case by trimming the lower curved mount arms a bit. The side pegs are adjustable and are fine as is. Took it on a 4500 mile road trip this summer and it works great! Added a bar mounted USB port and used it as my navigator, phone and mp3 player thru a bluetooth helmet headset. A cellphone display won't be as visible in direct sunlight as a dedicated navigation tool but can be improved by choosing high contrast colors in your navigation program setup choices. Overall very happy with how it works.
Will this work with an HTC One M8?
A shopper on May 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I can only vouch for an iPhone in a waterproof case. The unit is spring loaded top to bottom, so it will fit many sizes. The sides are fixed to the width of the phone. One it is setup, the phone pops in and out. I fell on a duel sport ride and the phone stayed in place. Hope this helps.
Can this phone hold the new Samsung Galaxy S6 (not the Edge) horizontally?
Brant N on Jun 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No idea man. I have an Iphone 5. Its a pretty solid mount. Only thing is if it gets loose just put a zip tie or 2 between the holes and leave them loose so it is like a couple more gripping points. Works great!
Will this or other RAM product hold a cased iPhone 6 Plus 7.4 in x 4.4 in??
A shopper on Jun 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No it will not. I tried and it's just a bit too short. I am currently looking for another option.
Do you need to purchase additional ram products to mount on bike?
Kevel on Apr 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You will need a ball mount plate on back of cell holder. You also will need a clamp that hold the ball on cell end, and bike ball mount , many available for a variety of aplcations
Will this fit the new size phones like an Galaxy Note 3?
Emanuel P on Jun 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The maximum dimensions of this holder are approximately 4" wide by 7" tall. I would double check with your device, but that is pretty much the maximum size it will accommodate.
Does this need a base to mount in?
A shopper on Nov 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I had the ball mount so i could rotate it however i liked
how would one mount this to my forty eight sportster?
JASON B on Sep 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It depends on where you want it. There's a ball mount with a u-bolt that is universal and mounts to your handlebars. With that you'd need an arm. Look on RAM's web site. They show a variety of mounts other than the handlebar mount. They have mounts that use the mirror bolt, brake reservoir and others.
Picture of the back?
A shopper on Aug 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: All that's on the back is a 1 inch ram ball for connecting.
