Nolan N104 Voyage Helmet

Nolan N104 Helmets represent an evolutionary step for Nolan as they replace the much touted N103 Helmet.  When compared the older N103, the Nolan N104 Helmet offers a helmet which is much lighter (7oz), features a lower profile through the use of multiple shell sizes, better aerodynamics, as well as a much larger viewport for increased visibility. The (patented) chin guard rotation movement with elliptical trajectory makes it possible to keep the total size of the helmet's front section to a minimum, when the chin guard is open. The "sail" effect is consequently highly reduced and riding comfort is still guaranteed, even when the chin guard is lifted. The new ultrawide eyeport is the largest of any Nolan helmet, both vertically and laterally for maximum field of view.

The AIRBOOSTER ventilation system is equipped with an air intake in the chin bar, another intake in the brow and two rear extractors at the rear. The inner comfort lining includes removable cheekpads, inner liner, neckroll and chin curtain and is easily removable and washable as well as antifungal and antibacterial. New, redesigned comfort liner also accommodates eyeglasses much more easily than before.

All Nolan N104 helmets are also N-COM B4 ready (N-COM B4 is designed expressly for the N104 and is sold separately).

Shell Features:

  • Injected polycarbonate GE Lexan shell
  • 7oz lighter than the Nolan N103
  • Two Shell engineering allows Nolan N104 to offer sizes from 2XS to 3XL (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Dimensionally correct sizing allows ample cubic volume in chin/nose area

Faceshield Features:

  • Face shields are now sized to fit the two different shell sizes (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Ultra wide eye port opening is the largest on any Nolan helmet for superior visibility
  • Shield is changed by a simple push button mechanism
  • Pinlock shield included with each helmet
  • VPS (Vision Protection System) is new; slider bar to lower, push button release for instant retraction
  • VPS lens is scratch and fog resistant

Chin Bar Features:

  • Centromatic chin guard opening mechanism requires dual action, simultaneous action to prevent accidental opening
  • Dual action opening mechanism is positioned in the centre of the chin guard and allows for easy, one-handed opening

Ventilation:

  • N104 has new AIRBOOSTER ventilation system, ensures optimal ventilation where is is most required
  • Air intake in the chin guard draws air in and onto the inside of the faceshield
  • 3 position top vent (closed, crown vent, crown/brow vent)
  • 2 venturi exhaust ports at rear of helmet
  • New plastic vent tube channels in EPS disperse cool air throughout the helmet interior

Inner Liner:

  • Features removable cheek pads, inner liner, neck roll and wind protector
  • The inner padding of the new N104 is easily removable and washable and antibacterial
  • The shape of the inner comfort padding facilitates eyeglass wearing
  • Reflective insert at the centre of the roll neck further improves the rider's visibility at night
  • Neck roll can be removed easily, for more comfort in the warmer months

Other Features:

  • N-Com Communication System compatible (sold separately)
  • Features new Microlock2 quick-release retention system
  • Microlock2 consists of a plastic ergonomic opening lever, and of a second aluminium toothed and holding lever
  • Microlock2 minimizes the possibility of unintentional opening while still making it ergonomic and easy to use

Good inexpensive flip-up helmet This was my first flip-up helmet, so I wanted to buy an inexpensive one to try it out. I love the convenience of not having to take the helmet off at every stop. I had a few issues with the helmet. First, the lever for lowering the sun visor rattles incessantly, and even with earplugs you constantly hear this in your left ear. Second, the paint on the flip-up part of the helmet is already flaking off after only a few months. Any tiny little bump chips the paint and then it starts coming off. Third, the fit is a bit tight, so after wearing it for several hours I had some pain around my jawbone that might be eliminated by modifying the cheek pads .Lastly, the lock mechanism takes a little effort to disengage, I finally figured out the trick is to pull down on the front of the chin piece and then lift up. Now, for the good stuff. The helmet is nice and quiet, and has a very wide field of vision so you can see everything around. The venting works well, and it comes with an anti-fog shield which works perfectly on cold days. So, overall, I'd say for a low-budget flip-up helmet this one is adequate but I will probably eventually upgrade to a more expensive brand/model. January 19, 2015
Wow I've been using the Nolan 104 most of the winter now. The only issue I've had is that in driving rain the top seal on the visor doesn't keep out the rain. Then again I haven't had any helmet that did. The no fog screen works well down to around 15*F then if you have to stop then it is a good idea to crack the screen open a little to keep the fog from covering the whole viewing field. The 104 is exceptionally quiet for it's light weight. The chin strap buckle is NOT comfortable. All in all a great purchase. January 18, 2015
Best-working modular available I have been wearing Nolan modulars for about fifteen years, N-100, 101, 102, 103 and now 104. I have had mine for about a year and just bought one to replace my wife's 103. Sun visor works MUCH better than external one on 103. I have a big Jewish nose, so I used a Dremel tool to make the nose notch in the sun visor taller by 1/4 inch, now it's perfect, even over glasses. I LOVE the ratchet-buckle on the chin strap, much better than D-rings. The opening mechanism for the chinbar becomes intuitive really quickly, then is easy to operate one-handed. My only disappointment is that the sizing is a bit smaller than it was on all the previous models. I now wear an XL instead of an L, and my wife is up from a XS to an S. I am pleased with the RevZilla exchange experience, so no big deal. January 15, 2015
N104 is not a Neotec, but then my wallet agrees... I looked at a lot of different helmets and really wanted to get into a modular. The Neotec fits me like a glove and definitely is a nicer helmet, but this one is almost as good for basically half the price. Field of View on this thing is amazing. I got an XXL and prob could have fit into an XL, but it would have been squishing my cheeks like crazy. I wear and XL in Shoei. This is the nicest Modular you can get for under $300. Period! If the head shape fits you I would say go for it. Plenty of vids on how to add Bluetooth that are not the NCOM if you are worried about that. I will be adding a S10 with clamp here shortly. This helmet is great get one. This is my third helmet, and I would not hesitate to buy another Nolan helmet. I especially like the chin strap but the pinlock antifog technology cant be beat. I have had this helmet for abut 6 months now and am very happy. Revzilla had this helmet to me in less than 4 days. December 29, 2014
Well Made This was my first modular helmet. Very pleased with the purchase. The field of view is very wide, great for blind spot checking. Everything on the helmet works easily when riding. December 29, 2014
Good helmet. On sale makes it a real bargain. Vision field is fantastic. Little noise coming in on left side where buttons are for internal sun visor. Overall a nice helmet. December 28, 2014
Best helmet I have owned Far and away the best helmet I have ever owned. Very comfortable, quiet, and love the quick release ratchet chin strap. Visibility is fantastic, extremely wide. Air flow is above average, and love the ability to flip up the modular portion if in stopped traffic in summer heat. HIGHLY recommend this helmet. December 26, 2014

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Scott B: I wear glasses, I wanted an unobtrusive in helmet system that would work with an iPhone, and I kicked back some wicked peyote... Jun 30, 2014
joe h: Quality. I have used this Nolan N104 for 12 months now. Love it. Read the reviews, follow instructions and you won't be sorry. May 24, 2014
Michael L: Great helmet! Fit is comfortable, wide field of vision is "as advertised". Pinlock system performs flawlessly. I added the Bluetooth system & it installs easily in minutes. This system has been a disappointment. The electronics are not perfect & the button system that controls selections is not dependable. But the helmet itself is fabulous. Mar 3, 2014
ERIC O: In my opinion, this helmet is better than shoei's. It is so strong and light. If I get a chance to purchase one more thing, I will get it. Feb 11, 2014
Lucas J: I chose this helmet because it gets 4 stars on the SHARP safety testing, it was one of the very few modular helmets where the chin bar stayed down in 100% of the tests, and it fit me comfortably when I tried it on at a local store. This helmet seems to be a good safe option at a reasonable price. Oct 5, 2013
Craig R: I wear glasses and putting a full face helmet on is always a hassle, so I like the idea of the Nolan modular system. They look pretty damn cool too and seem well designed and manufactured (I will know for sure when I try it on). Sep 7, 2013
Mike W: I had a freeway accident while wearing this helmet. The helmet was badly damaged in the faceshield, modular chin piece, and gouges all along the top and back. I came out without a scratch. Aspects I like about the helmet: It's wide visual area. The integrated anti-fog pin lock. Internal sun visor that comes down just far enough to block the setting / rising sun but not the gauges. It could be a little quieter tho. Did I buy a new one? You better believe I did. Aug 11, 2013
A shopper asked: Hello. I have a fairly oval shaped head. I did some research and I am hesitating between the N104 and the HJC RPHA MAX. I went to a dealer and had a chance to try a RPHA, and it seemed to fit a little loosely on the forehead.
Would the N104 fit tighter?
Is the N104 much louder?
Thank you.

Rodney M: I have worn our N104's for 2 years now and abosolutely love it. I have worn various brands over the years and the Nolan's are definitely above average. I had an HJC's years ago and it was noisy, however, I do not have any experience with the RPHA Max model. The 104's are quite quiet due to there quality construction. The only real test to see if it would fit your head better than the HJC RPHA is to try it on. Everyone's head is just a little different shaped and what works for me might not for you. I would not hesitate to buy another Nolan helmet.

Good luck.

Frank R: I have both a HJC CL16 and the N104. I really like the comfort and style of the 104 best. It does have a tighter fit in the cheeks than the HJC line in my opinion. The N104 is not a horribly loud helmet but it is middle of the pack IMO. Feb 25, 2014

RevZilla: The Nolan N104 has just been released and not all sizes and colors are out on the market just yet. We would anticipate better availablity by mid-April on the graphics and larger sizes. Mar 23, 2012

A shopper asked: What is the difference between the Voyage and the Outlaw/Non-Outlaw 104? Color scheming? Mar 12, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Conundrum: Yes just color scheme differences and that's it. The N104 Voyage, Action, and Outlaw are all otherwise exactly the same helmet. Jun 12, 2012
Reply to Conundrum Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: Correct, the only difference between the Outlaw, Voyage, or Solid-Color Nolan N104 is the color scheme. May 2, 2012
