Nolan N104 Voyage Helmet

Nolan N104 Helmets represent an evolutionary step for Nolan as they replace the much touted N103 Helmet.  When compared the older N103, the Nolan N104 Helmet offers a helmet which is much lighter (7oz), features a lower profile through the use of multiple shell sizes, better aerodynamics, as well as a much larger viewport for increased visibility. The (patented) chin guard rotation movement with elliptical trajectory makes it possible to keep the total size of the helmet's front section to a minimum, when the chin guard is open. The "sail" effect is consequently highly reduced and riding comfort is still guaranteed, even when the chin guard is lifted. The new ultrawide eyeport is the largest of any Nolan helmet, both vertically and laterally for maximum field of view.

The AIRBOOSTER ventilation system is equipped with an air intake in the chin bar, another intake in the brow and two rear extractors at the rear. The inner comfort lining includes removable cheekpads, inner liner, neckroll and chin curtain and is easily removable and washable as well as antifungal and antibacterial. New, redesigned comfort liner also accommodates eyeglasses much more easily than before.

All Nolan N104 helmets are also N-COM B4 ready (N-COM B4 is designed expressly for the N104 and is sold separately).

Shell Features:

  • Injected polycarbonate GE Lexan shell
  • 7oz lighter than the Nolan N103
  • Two Shell engineering allows Nolan N104 to offer sizes from 2XS to 3XL (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Dimensionally correct sizing allows ample cubic volume in chin/nose area

Faceshield Features:

  • Face shields are now sized to fit the two different shell sizes (2XS-LG and XL-3XL)
  • Ultra wide eye port opening is the largest on any Nolan helmet for superior visibility
  • Shield is changed by a simple push button mechanism
  • Pinlock shield included with each helmet
  • VPS (Vision Protection System) is new; slider bar to lower, push button release for instant retraction
  • VPS lens is scratch and fog resistant

Chin Bar Features:

  • Centromatic chin guard opening mechanism requires dual action, simultaneous action to prevent accidental opening
  • Dual action opening mechanism is positioned in the centre of the chin guard and allows for easy, one-handed opening

  • N104 has new AIRBOOSTER ventilation system, ensures optimal ventilation where is is most required
  • Air intake in the chin guard draws air in and onto the inside of the faceshield
  • 3 position top vent (closed, crown vent, crown/brow vent)
  • 2 venturi exhaust ports at rear of helmet
  • New plastic vent tube channels in EPS disperse cool air throughout the helmet interior

Inner Liner:

  • Features removable cheek pads, inner liner, neck roll and wind protector
  • The inner padding of the new N104 is easily removable and washable and antibacterial
  • The shape of the inner comfort padding facilitates eyeglass wearing
  • Reflective insert at the centre of the roll neck further improves the rider's visibility at night
  • Neck roll can be removed easily, for more comfort in the warmer months

Other Features:

  • N-Com Communication System compatible (sold separately)
  • Features new Microlock2 quick-release retention system
  • Microlock2 consists of a plastic ergonomic opening lever, and of a second aluminium toothed and holding lever
  • Microlock2 minimizes the possibility of unintentional opening while still making it ergonomic and easy to use

Great Modular Helmet I have a large, somewhat round head, and after a couple of tries this was the helmet that best replaced my old standby. It is quieter than expected. The chin release is very easy to use, and the chin strap clasp is quicker than rings. I ordered the XXXL The air flow was better than I expected. September 16, 2014
Excellent helmet! Alot of bang for the buck. Just got back from a 500 mile trip with this lid. A few years back I took my N103 to Canada and while i loved that helmet it was WAY too heavy. When i read they shaved like 8 ounces off I was like wow and I am NOT disappointed with the newer model. The 103 I had was a large and this time i measured and took the chance on a medium and its a perfect snug fit for my intermediate oval head shape. The arctic grey is a close match to my 2013 FJR and the finish is of great quality. The air flow is decent, the noise is fairly quiet for a flip up and as usual the comfort liner is outstanding and fully removable. One knock I will give this( 4 stars out of 5 for this) is where they moved the slider lever to operate the internal shield. Its right where i had to mount my Sena SMH-10 Bluetooth setup. I had to use the sticky mount which is fine but operating the lever is tricky with the Sena right next to the lever. Ive seen on forums and here how people hack up this helmet to use the clamp and that is just ABSURD! I wouldn't spend 300 bucks on a helmet to cut it open! To summarize: 1. Great fit and finish, very comfortable. 2. Good air flow 3. Not too loud/fairly quiet for a flip up. 4. Excellent removable liner which has speaker pockets and is Bluetooth ready. 5. Internal visor level placement makes it tricky if you want a Bluetooth setup and don't want to shell out alot of $ for the Nolan one. Last but not least Revzilla is amazing and ship fast! Customer support is great and their videos are super helpful. September 16, 2014
List of gripes Over all I like the helmet, but there are some things that bug me about it. I am going to list some of the things that I have found that I have issues with since using the helmet. The helmet is loud. I thought some here were just used to more expensive helmets, and this one was slightly louder than their old one, but there is a significant difference in the level of the sound in this helmet from my old Zues helmet I spent a little over $100 for. It almost seems like it amplifies the sound. My guess is that they dropped the sound dampening to make room for the intercom speakers. The sun visor . One of the problems have with it is that it just snaps back when you press the button. Another issue is that it is only one position, so its all or nothing, and it does not seem to go far enough down for full coverage. You can't really crack the visor. The first detent when opening the visor is to high. It has over 2 inches of a gap from the chinbar at the first detent. If you have the pinlock system installed the silicon bead that runs around the perimeter is right in your view. It does have a catch thing to keep the visor closed and locked down. You can rest it on that and not lock it down to leave a little crack, but your not getting much air that way since its like a 1/4 in gap. The fit. I mesured my head a few times prior to getting this helmet and was just under the 58cm for the size for a medium. I ordered the medium and it is tight and it leaves slight marks on my head. Also I cant get this thing off with the chinbar down. I am a bit afraid that if the mechanism for opening the face would brake (and the tab does not seem that strong) I am going to have a bad time. Another thing is that I don't have big ears but for some reason some part of the liner sits on my ears. The pinlock issues. Trying to install the pinlock system was a pain. I fallowed the directions and was sure I was going to brake the visor getting it on. Now that I have it installed I noticed its a bit hazy through the visor now. I would remove it but if I were to need it I don't want to struggle with installing it again. Overall I do like the helmet. A lot of the stuff I don't like is likely a non issue for most people, but I guess I was expecting a little more from a helmet that is 4x more expensive than the one I replaced. At the sale price I bought it at I think it is a fair deal. September 15, 2014
Great all around I purchased this helmet, in part, because it was ready-made for an in-helmet communication system. It fits my slightly oval head quite well. The chin strap, internal visor and wide view are great. Unfortunately, the speaker holes were a little small for the helmet set I am using and I had to cut away some of the side material to accommodate bigger speakers. I ride an adventure touring bike with an extended wind screen. I have noticed the helmet is a little loud with the wind coming in from the sides behind the screen. When I stand at full speed it is much quieter. September 15, 2014
The helmet is a great value for the price. The helmet was a decent all around helmet. I was desperate to replace a Nolan helmet that had been in a accident. With fall weather approaching, I was glad to find a good deal on a Nolan helmet. The quality is there and so was the comfort and style. I would recommend this helmet to anyone. September 9, 2014
Great Helmet I got it on sale and could justify the price. The fit is slightly small for me, but barely enough to even mention. The field of view is very large. You can experience riding differently now. The internal visor could be a little bit lower, just so you don't see the edge. September 9, 2014
bad air flow, chin strap bad poor air flow. The WORST CHIN STRAP EVER !!!!!!! It does not matter tied or loss you buckle, it will choke you. It is not DD rings, its buckle chin strap, like roller-blade buckle or snowboard one. September 8, 2014
Great first helmet This is my first helmet so I've nothing else to compare it to. That said, it is very comfortable and kept my head warm in a classic Oregon rain storm. The visor offers excellent vision, the flip down sun lens and convenience of the rotating chin bar is outstanding. My only gripe is that is seems loud, I definitely ride with ear plugs. RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Scott B: I wear glasses, I wanted an unobtrusive in helmet system that would work with an iPhone, and I kicked back some wicked peyote... Jun 30, 2014
joe h: Quality. I have used this Nolan N104 for 12 months now. Love it. Read the reviews, follow instructions and you won't be sorry. May 24, 2014
Michael L: Great helmet! Fit is comfortable, wide field of vision is "as advertised". Pinlock system performs flawlessly. I added the Bluetooth system & it installs easily in minutes. This system has been a disappointment. The electronics are not perfect & the button system that controls selections is not dependable. But the helmet itself is fabulous. Mar 3, 2014
ERIC O: In my opinion, this helmet is better than shoei's. It is so strong and light. If I get a chance to purchase one more thing, I will get it. Feb 11, 2014
Lucas J: I chose this helmet because it gets 4 stars on the SHARP safety testing, it was one of the very few modular helmets where the chin bar stayed down in 100% of the tests, and it fit me comfortably when I tried it on at a local store. This helmet seems to be a good safe option at a reasonable price. Oct 5, 2013
Craig R: I wear glasses and putting a full face helmet on is always a hassle, so I like the idea of the Nolan modular system. They look pretty damn cool too and seem well designed and manufactured (I will know for sure when I try it on). Sep 7, 2013
Mike W: I had a freeway accident while wearing this helmet. The helmet was badly damaged in the faceshield, modular chin piece, and gouges all along the top and back. I came out without a scratch. Aspects I like about the helmet: It's wide visual area. The integrated anti-fog pin lock. Internal sun visor that comes down just far enough to block the setting / rising sun but not the gauges. It could be a little quieter tho. Did I buy a new one? You better believe I did. Aug 11, 2013
A shopper asked: Hello. I have a fairly oval shaped head. I did some research and I am hesitating between the N104 and the HJC RPHA MAX. I went to a dealer and had a chance to try a RPHA, and it seemed to fit a little loosely on the forehead.
Would the N104 fit tighter?
Is the N104 much louder?
Thank you.

Rodney M: I have worn our N104's for 2 years now and abosolutely love it. I have worn various brands over the years and the Nolan's are definitely above average. I had an HJC's years ago and it was noisy, however, I do not have any experience with the RPHA Max model. The 104's are quite quiet due to there quality construction. The only real test to see if it would fit your head better than the HJC RPHA is to try it on. Everyone's head is just a little different shaped and what works for me might not for you. I would not hesitate to buy another Nolan helmet.

Good luck.

Frank R: I have both a HJC CL16 and the N104. I really like the comfort and style of the 104 best. It does have a tighter fit in the cheeks than the HJC line in my opinion. The N104 is not a horribly loud helmet but it is middle of the pack IMO. Feb 25, 2014

A shopper asked: What is the difference between the Voyage and the Outlaw/Non-Outlaw 104? Color scheming? Mar 12, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Conundrum: Yes just color scheme differences and that's it. The N104 Voyage, Action, and Outlaw are all otherwise exactly the same helmet. Jun 12, 2012
Reply to Conundrum Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: Correct, the only difference between the Outlaw, Voyage, or Solid-Color Nolan N104 is the color scheme. May 2, 2012
