Nolan N104 Silver Mirrored Faceshield I recently purchased the mirrored face shield for my N104 in preparation for summer riding. It provides additional protection from solar heat. It was very easy to remove the stock, clear, windshield and install the replacement. I did a short ride with the stock faceshield and then switched to the mirrored one, and there was a noticeable difference in heat, while facing the sun. In conjunction with the drop down mirrored visor, it was really great on a bright, sunny ride. April 16, 2014
Just what I expected I bought the Dark Smoke because the internal visor is not adequate enough, especially in a sunrise/sunset scenario. The Dark Smoke is perfect for all daytime situations. I still use the internal visor for sunrise and sunset, which blocks ALL of the glare and still allows me to navigate commuter traffic with ease. For anything after twilight, I switch back to my clear shield. April 14, 2014
Easy replacement Purchased a replacement for my shield that had an accumulation of scratches from nearly daily use, I can't believe I waited so long to replace the old shield. It's so easy to do, doesn't cost much, and it's like having a brand new helmet without the uncomfortable break-in period! March 24, 2014
What Color Should I Get? If you're wondering about the colors, I can provide some advice based on my experience. I started by ordering this Nolan N104 Face Shield in the "Smoke" color choice. This should perhaps more accurately be named very light smoke. Even adding the Nolan N104 Pinlock Lens Insert in the color "Smoke" did not darken things any and enough. Both are in actuality very light smoke. And layering two things in the same shade does not darken things any. I think the best use for the "Smoke" color choice would be to stretch from day into night. For example, you could possibly get away with the color choice "Smoke" at dawn & dusk. Maybe. That's how light in shade it is. Not recommended obviously, but you could push it and get away with it possibly. Again, I am not recommending wearing any kind of tinted anything except for in very bright daylight situations. You are in all likelihood looking at this product because the built in drop down sun visor in this helmet is terrible! It covers half your line of sight. The Nolan N104 VPS Inner Shield drop down sun visor is dark enough to be sure, but it's just too short. If you're in more of an upright riding position, this inner sun shield sits directly in the middle of your line of sight. UGH! To perhaps best describe the Nolan N104 Face Shield in the "Smoke" color choice, I can estimate that it is about 10-20% lighter in shade (not as dark) as the PITA drop down inner sun shield that comes with this Nolan N104 helmet. And that's with adding the Nolan N104 Pinlock Lens Insert in color "Smoke." So, if you want dark, what color should you get? In all my research on the Nolan manufacturer's website and other places as well, the color choice "Dark Smoke" is indeed the darkest. And again, I tried both the "Smoke" and "Dark Smoke" color choices on the Nolan N104 helmet. The Revzilla website warns that the "Dark Smoke" color choice has a "green tinge." This is mostly true, but once you add the Nolan N104 Pinlock Lens Insert in color "Smoke," and actually wear the helmet, it looks more dark/black in color and will not look at all green from the outside (people looking at you) IMHO. From the outside it looks black with a bit of green tinge. And from the inside of the helmet the color "Dark Smoke" in the Nolan N104 Face Shield worn with the Nolan N104 Pinlock Lens Insert in color "Smoke" does not appear green in my opinion. It'll be greener than you might want it, but to call it green pushes things a bit. It's a light green tinge is all. And from everything I've read this is the darkest shade, including the mirrored options. You definitely cannot and should never wear the "Dark Smoke" color choice in anything but very bright conditions. And the Nolan manufacturer's website warns against this, and things like wearing this "Dark Smoke" color with the inner sun visor dropped down (never do this). March 22, 2014
Awesome product! Very easy and simple to install. The dark grey is great during the day to keep the sun out of your eyes, I don't ride much at night but I believe it might too dark after dusk. February 17, 2014

Frank W G: I love my Nolan N104 helmet. Because it has a very large face area, you might want to get one of the "mirrored" colors for summer use. It keeps the sun's heat at bay so you don't heat up as much. The color is pretty much up to your preference. I chose the blue and may check out another color next time. I've found that it doesn't bother me by being too dark at night either. Other than that, they all work pretty much the same... Mar 25, 2014

Alejandro A: I have been using the N104 for couple years. I've been using the smoked shield and that combined with my VPS gives me enough protection and visibility. I like the smoke because at night it isn't as dark as other smoked shields. If you do not ride your bike at night I would suggest a darker shield though. the darker the better (sunlight). At night the lighter the better. Mar 25, 2014

Andrew S asked: How dark is the mirrored silver shield, ie: is it a light or dark smoke tint behind the silver coating? Thx! Oct 3, 2013

Don B: I'm sorry Andrew I don't have a tinted or mirrored shield . I just have the clear shield that it came with.I'm sure any tinting would help as the inner visor is not dark enough. I would also like to have more tinting when riding into the sun Oct 4, 2013

Thomas B: The Silver shield in light smoke is the best. If not at night it is tooo dark. Wear my Maui Gems dark sun glasses and the visor in the 104 and the shield and you can ride all day into the sun with no problems. Oct 5, 2013

mrrobert: It does tone down the amount of light on the eyes, with the VPS (Vision Protection System) it makes it an enjoyable relief in my situation. I would only recommend the mirror lense from sunrise to sunset, once it get dark it would be advisable to rise the chin bar or change to the clear lense supplied with the helmet. May 1, 2012
