Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact Front Tire
Good commuter tire
I've been through a few of these on the rear of my Superhawk and they work fine. I probably am more of an aggressive corner-er than most commuters but there is a strip of unused rubber 1/2 of an inch or so on the edges. A lot of riding is done in straight lines.
For me the tread life exceeds the original Dunlop D204ks by about 2K miles.
Honestly what's more important to me than anything else is to get a decent tire, know it well and use the same model so I can forget about it and just ride. These fit the bill and I will keep buying them as long as they are sold. They are consistent quality items.

I had the Z6 - 2011 R1200RT
I'm in the market for a new set of Metzeler Interact tires which will be the Z8. My set of Z6's have lasted for 12,000 miles, double the mileage I would get from Metzelers on my previous 2002 R1150RT.
I ride in the SF Bay area and surrounding areas and have found the Z6 to offer great grip and very predictable responses. I can't comment on wet weather performance as I rarely ride on wet roads given the residual oil situation on Bay area roadways.
Nice to finally have a set of tires that offer long life and high performance for a sport tourer R1200RT.

As good as it gets in this segment
Finally a tire that'll last and still give good service as it goes down. I ran mine all the way down to the wear-bars (OK, not smart) while out on a multi-day trip and they never gave up traction. In the rain they continued to grip nearly as well as new right up to the day they got changed out. Day-to-day service is as good as it gets in this segment. They resist "squaring off" as well as anything I've seen and let my SV1K do what it's supposed to do....

Would Not Be My Choice
These tires came stock on my K1600GT. I'll start by saying that I am very particular about my tire pressures and always do a "walk around" to check out my bikes before every ride! I would consider myself as a fairly aggresive rider ... I drag parts semi often.
The front tire started cupping around 2,500-3,000 miles, the rear was showing cords at 3,872 miles. I had done a walk around and was riding with my wife the day before I found the cords showing. The tire looked fine, still not into the wear bars (close but not into# so we rode two up for a short ride ... maybe 200 miles. We got home late, parked the bike in garage. The next day I was going for a ride and during inspection found a strip in center of tire #all the way around) that measures anywhere from 2" - 4.5" of steel belt! So the tire went from not into wear bars to showing cords within 200 miles!!!!!
I am now in process of deciding what tire to run ... the only thing I am certain of it will NOT be the Metzler Roadtec!

pretty good tire
I usually use a set of tires per year (about 10k miles). These are OEM from BMW for some of their large touring bikes and that influenced my selection.

Love this tire.
I just received my second set of Z8s for my R1200RT. 12,000 miles on the first set, including a Track Day and there was still tread life left. The weekend before I received the new set I still had the confidence in the tires to ride Ohio Rt 555, some call it “Ohio’s Dragon”. These tires owed me nothing and after 12,000 miles it was just time for a new set. Watch your tire pressure and adjust for 2up or solo and this tire will keep you happy in all road conditions. Believe all the hype, this is one Great Tire!

Metzeler product claims and other reviews are right on the mark. Too many companies exaggerate their product's qualities. My K1600GTL is often loaded to max gross. These tires give good wear and good traction, rain or shine.

These tires were on my NC700X when I bought it last summer. I put 8500 miles on them and they performed great. Took a trip this past May through WV, Eastern KY and TN. I already had about 6K miles on the tires when I left for the trip. The rear tire was showing some what of a flat spot from the commuting I do to work. Ran into a lot of rain in KY and the tires stuck really well(never slipped) even with the miles I had on them.
I probably could have gotten another 2K miles on them but I have another long trip planned in August so I decided to replace them.
Just bought a set of Michelin Road Pilot 3's from RevZilla. Thought I would try a different tire for the commuting I do. If the Michelins don't work out, my next purchase will be these Melzlers again. Great tire! They never let me down. I would recommend them.
