Metzeler ME888 Tires 4.9 5 24 24
ME888: Going the Distance I recently installed my second ME888 Marathon Ultra on my 2013 Triumph Speedmaster. The ME880 Marathon tires were stock on my bike from Triumph, so I elected to move up to the 888 when it was time to replace my rear tire last year (the Stock 880’s lasted over 18k on the rear, 26k on the front). After 19,000 miles of (mostly) Ohio roads, my first ME888 (rear) was ready for a change. The mileage alone speaks for itself; if you live somewhere that the roads aren’t so flat, I imagine you could get over 20k out of a rear tire. Mind you, my Triumph is only 550 lbs., I imagine that plays a role. I’ve read several reviews where guys have complained about the handling in wet conditions; from my experience I think that has a lot to do with comfort, taste, and throttle discipline. I have experienced the rear tire breaking loose in the rain; more often than not because I got on the throttle too soon when exiting a curve. The 888 that I just replaced took me through “The Tail of the Dragon” (US-129) no less than three times in the rain with no issues. If guys are looking to ride in the rain the exact same way they ride when it’s dry, then yes, these tires could probably use a bit more grip. In my opinion, any traction issues I’ve experienced in the rain have been 100% my fault, not the a result of poor performance from the tire. Riding year round (yes, including January), I’ve experience no issues with grip in dry conditions, whatsoever. I’m currently on my first ME888 on the front (11,500 miles… still ticking), and my second on the Rear, I would undoubtedly buy these tires again. September 25, 2015
Quiet and smooth running tire. Have not had an opportunity for a long term test of this tire but initial impressions are excellent. Good grip for a touring tire on my K1200LT and very quiet running. Turn in was comparable to the Bridgestone BT-020 but the tire runs true on pavement grooves unlike the Bridgestone. September 7, 2015
Great grip Instant better handling with this tire. Havent had it long enough to notice tread wear. I also avoid riding in the rain so I cannot rate wet traction. July 27, 2015
Road Star with Great Tires..!! Uber-research of all the sub-atomic details about tires led me to a pair of ME-888's. Magnitude of difference from OEM BS tires, both noun and adjective. At 1K miles now both solo and 2-up on the Metzelers. Smooth and stable at all speeds, kung-fu grip, no signs of wear yet (except for the mold parting compound...natch). Tar snakes and lane paint cringe at my passing. Revzilla will get you in-hand with any product you choose in a professional and complete way - start with a pair of Metzelers...go from there. July 20, 2015
Huge Difference these tires are 10x better than the Dunlops that came on my sportster. Definitely a good choice! July 20, 2015
Fresh Rubber for Sport Touring These ME888's replaced a pair of ME880's that have been on my 2001 Honda Goldwing, GL1800A, for 14,500 miles. I got about the life expectancy out of the ME880's that I expected given how hard I ride the bike. Unlike most Goldwing riders, I use my GL1800 primarily for two up sport touring riding as opposed to straight up and down long distance interstate runs. The Metzlers simply far outclass the OEM Dunlops that came with the bike in terms of dry grip, wet weather traction, handling, and wear. The ME888 is the upgraded, new and improved, version of the ME880. In the 2,000 or so miles I have put on them so far, they have not disappointed. They feel every bit as sure footed as the Metzler M5's I have on my Kawasaki ZX14. Wet weather traction appears to be improved, but I only have about 3 hours of wet weather riding on these so far. The handling is outstanding. The bike seems much more nimble with the ME888's over the ME880's they replaced. Bear in mind, however, that I'm essentially comparing worn out ME880's to brand new ME888's. But if memory serves, even when the ME880's were brand new, they didn't respond as well as the ME888's do now. Very little effort is now required to put the bike into aggressive lean angles for turns, even with my wife riding shotgun. One final note--I only use nitrogen in my motorcycle tires in order to maintain more consistent tire pressures with changes in ambient and tire temperatures. Your mileage may vary, of course, but based on my experience filing the tires with nitrogen substantially improves the handling consistency of the bike in all conditions. July 13, 2015
Does exactly what they claim! I ride in all kinds of weather, and it is comforting to feel the grip on the road while riding in the rain to include while in a lean. This is my second set and I get 12-14K out of a set, although I do admit that I may drive beyond what some may consider balding. I haven't tried may different tires, but for me I found a set that does exactly what I need, why would I risk trying another. July 2, 2015
So Far, So Good, actually.. Put a set of these on my 2012 Goldwing. 1st impression is they handle and ride excellent. A touch of a snow tire feel between 30 and 40, but that is because of the tread pattern and I am much more secure knowing I have that extra water channeling capability underneath me if needed. These handle way better than the Stones did. Stones lasted 12,500 but made me afraid to ride on the wet pavement June 30, 2015

Lance M: When it was time to replace the OEM (Dunlop Elite 3) on my 2013 Victory X Country I chose the triple 8. Great, Great tire in handling, wear, performance, long lasting... the list goes on. Pete M: I think they are a great handling tire so far. After 1000 miles I still do not notice any wear. I have a 2013 Harley electric glide ultra limited. This is a heavy bike and having a tire that is dependable is important to me. I ride 15000 miles a year and long life out of a tire is the next priority ofthe tire I choose. The 888's have so far met every chalange I have thought of. I hope this helps you make a dedecision. Feb 21, 2014

Tom M: Short answer is yes. It is always best to run matching tires front and back because of balance and ride handling. I'm running the 888 on the back tire and a Dunlap on the front, not by choice, but because of a road trip tire replacement. There isn't much difference between the 880 and the 888 that affects handling. Great tire! Feb 22, 2014

Matt S: According to Revzilla's video breakdown on the M888 tires, you can run the 880 with an 888 tire. I have 888's front and rear and love them. They grab really well and with the softer compound on the edges, they hold in the turns like butter.
Highly recommend them!!

walter l: The 888 is 10 times the tire of the 880. i will run nothing else on my Harley!!!!!
and yes i run them front and rear and my tracking problem disappeared.as the tread patterns are completely different i would not recommend combining them....Walt

A shopper asked: Hi...I currently have a 140/80H-17 tire on the front of my 2001 Honda Aero 1100...the ME 888 listing shows a 130/80B-17 as available...I understand the width is 10mm less than original....I'm thinking it will fit but just be about a 1/4 inch less in width.....just need confirmation that it will fit w/o problem and perhaps be a better steering tire than the wider original..?

Jerry S: Yes I have the ME888 tires on my Kawasaki and they are great. My opinion is this the tire is all it says it is however there is no competing with rubber on the road. I would always buy the better tire ME 888 but more rubber is better ie: surface to grab the road. I would prefer Metzeler make the proper width for the application with the better tire. Feb 19, 2014

A shopper asked: Has anyone tried these on a Goldwing GL1800? I'm getting ready for a 6000 mile plus trip mostly in the twisties. I like to ride the Wing like a Sport Tourer so handling is my most important criteria. Any experience or thoughts out there? Jul 20, 2014

Stacy E: I purchased a rear one for my Road King last year and love it. Grip is much better than Dunlop and handling is awesome. I just installed a new front so I would have matching tires, but haven't had a chance to ride yet. Jul 24, 2014

Santford R F: Don't know about the Goldwing but I have these on a Roadking and they are great for a long trip. I don't see why these will not work very well on you Goldwing.
