MachineartMoto MudSling MAX Rear Fender R1200GS / Adventure Videos

MachineartMoto MudSling MAX Rear Fender Water Cooled R1200GS / Adventure

The MudSling MAX is an all new design with 12% more coverage area than the original MudSling. Protects the shock and battery area from flying mud, rocks, and tar, keeps the underseat area cleaner and reduces splash-out to the sides. Fits standard suspension and ESA equipped models.

High impact ABS plastic is .125” thick with a lightly textured satin finish surface. Protects aftermarket shocks with larger diameter springs than stock. Mounts easily without having to remove the rear wheel. It fastens to the frame beneath the tool tray with the included T25 Torx screws utilizing existing mounting locations, and with zip ties to the frame side rails.

FANTASTIC quality competing with less expensive alternatives
I'd buy only Machineart Moto products if money were not a consideration. Fit and quality are EXCELLENT! Andrew's (of Machineart Moto) passion is evident in all of his products!!!!!!!!!!

Well designed product.
This product was very easy to install and seems secure using just the molded in clip to the existing factory mudguard and the provided cable ties. I haven't used it in the rain yet, but it certainly looks to provide substantially more coverage than the factory guard.

Very functional with one caviot
Installed on my 2014 R1200 GSA W. Provided the added needed protection from water/mud. First used with stock Annakee IIIs and it worked well. Installed a set of TKC 80s found that there was a problem with clearance issue as described in the product information. I then modified, cut down, the guard enough to provide the necessary clearance for operating without rubbing. This reduced the amount of protection to the area. A little pricey but excellent quality.

Mudsling Rear Fender
It is a huge factor in keeping the shock area of the GS so much cleaner. No one notices it; like it is a factory piece. Well worth the money. Easy to install.

Pricey but good
Overall a good product. I have a 2014 R1200GS. It prevents my heals from getting soaked when it rains and keeps road grime off my spring and shock, exactly why I purchased the sling. I am still overwhelmed at the price. One downside is the clearance between the front of the rear tire and the sling. If I had knobby tires, Im not sure the clearance would be adequate. Also, when off road mud compacts between the sling and the tire at the closest point. The best thing to do would be to remove the sling for off road use, it was east to install, less than 5 minutes. And its easily replaceable with 4 zip ties.

Not sure yet
The clearance between the fender and a half worm TKC-80 is pretty thin. It flexes easy enough, so I think a rock would get through without jamming, maybe. Not sure how it'll work with sticky mud.
I'm guessing at some time this season, I'll end up using a heat gun to reform the fender and widen the gap or have to cut out the center section to make more room.
The side coverage is great, no more soaking right leg after wet rides.

Works as advertised. Zip Ties Junk
The actual product was beautifully made and fit perfectly. Well engineered and color and texture blends perfectly with existing fender. Looks almost OEM. The dissapointment came when securing the unit with the attached zip ties - all 4 of the included ties were made of a brittle plastic that snapped as soon they were tightened. I didn't overtighten - they snapped even before they were halfway cinched. I spoke to a friend who bought the same product and had a similar experience. For the price of the unit this was unsatisfactory. Rand down to the local hardware store and picked up a bag for a couple of $ and no further issues. I would recommend keeping a few spares in your bags just in case.

The product itself gets a 5 star, but 2 overall for the aggravation.

Fit is great, install is easy. I wish BMW put this on the bike from the factory. It really keeps the underside of the bike clean.

Wanted more protection for the BMW GS ESA. I have experience with a MudSling on my R bike and it does a good job. Easy and quick to install.

will it fit r1200gsw 2016?
A shopper on Jul 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It's been working great on my 16 GSA for the last 5k miles (TKC-80 and Anakee Wilds), very tight clearance with tires, but no issues on Moderate / Advanced Moderate type trails, can see gouges where rocks have been pulled through, the zip ties will break long before anything jams up.
It would be an easy process to use a heat gun and open up the gap if it's a concern. The rear shock looks as clean now as when it left the showroom floor, and the back of my right leg no longer gets soak with splash back or caked with mud.
Will the mudsling work on a 2015 BMW GSW Adventure with the factory lowered suspension and ESA?
A shopper on Dec 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Mine is on a regular GS 2013 model with ESA. The mudsling I think should fit ok with the lowered suspension. If you are running big knobbies in muddy conditions you might run into issues but for street use should work fine. It will keep the suspension area of the GS much cleaner.
Hi,
I read this on MachineArt site: Please note that the MudSling™ does not fit the 2014 Adventure fitted with knobby tires. Read the Bogroll entry below for more information. Is it true? Sometimes I use knobby tire. Any upgrade? Thanks!
A shopper on Mar 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have a regular 2013 GS with street tires. You should visit a dealer with an ADV GS outfitted with knobbies and measure the distance to where the fender would be. Maybe at full compression of the shock it would rub. Maybe see how much taller a knobby is compared to stock tires for the GS ADV. My fender does its job nicely.
