Icon Compound Jacket

The Compound jacket by Icon is what we refer to as a Hybrid style. Half leather, half textile, fully awesome. The chassis is constructed largely of high- tenacity textiles for both reduced weight and ease of movement. 1.2- 1.4mm cowhide is used in all of the major impact areas. The upper back area is equipped with articulating plastic plates to increase the jacket’s protective envelope. Ratchet adjuster straps on the waist allow for rapid fitment options. Multiple air ducts and Fighter Mesh inserts pump cooling air into the jacket for maximum comfort. Finally, a removable insulated full-length liner is included should the outside air temperature drop to unacceptable levels. If your question is the ease of textile, with the protection of leather - the Compound jacket is your answer.

This is a great textile/leather duo Thi jacket is great if you like the leather look but also textile for a reasonable price. The airflow is great and looks badass. Has all the qualified protective gear you need. August 13, 2014
Love the style, great protection while staying fairly light. I personally don't like the look of leather, and I find it very uncomfortable. However, I really wanted a jacket that was gonna do it's job if I went down, and nothing protects you better than leather. So I decided to compromise with this textile/leather compound jacket. It's got leather in all of the major impact zones to keep me safe, and textile everywhere else so it stays light, comfortable, and has great air flow to stay cool. There may be other jackets that have better protection or are more comfortable, but you will never find a jacket that has a better combination of the two. I also love the style so that's always a big bonus! This is an absolute must buy, I definitely recommend this product. July 7, 2014
Best of both leather and textiles Just bought a new bike and needed some gear. My old stuff was great when i was almost 90lbs heavier but not so good now so i found the Icon Compound Textile jacket. I ordered it and it fit perfect to my normal jacket size, i normally wear size large shirts and jackets and the large fit perfectly. It is slightly on the sporty style so it will be fitted better than a regular jacket. I live in Canada and so far the liner is great for the very cool morning this past spring. I love this jacket, looks great and great movement for the thick leather sections. Definitely recommend to anyone. June 24, 2014
Nice, light weight, good protection Needed a new jacket to replace an aging leather and wanted something a bit lighter and with better air flow. This jacket succeeds on both counts. Fit, for me, is a little long in the arms. I'm 5' 9", 230ish lbs and went with the XL. I suspect a L wouldn't fit as well around the chest and belly for me. Not bad while riding but noticeable off the bike. Otherwise this seems to be an excellent jacket that offers good comfort, quality and protection. April 3, 2013
Awesome and Stylish Jacket Bought this for New England riding, stays warm on the cooler days and stays cool on the warmer days. Airflow is great, colors are great! Feel great wearing it, and also feel safe (most important). Needs to be worked in a little as the leather is pretty stiff. Love the extra flap on the back to cover your lower back, great fo ra 3/4 bike April 1, 2013
Great jacket!!! True to size. Found it very comfortable in riding position. I'm a Canadian rider, so I'm glad its got the thermal liner for cool mornings. Love that it comes in a large variety of colors. Bought the orange - and its KTM orange...hard to find! January 22, 2013
Nice jacket, a real difference from a full leather! Breathes well. A little tough for in between sizers but still fits nicely with Stryker back armor upgrade insert. Breathes well and looks nice, plenty of compliments! August 6, 2012
My first motorcycle jacket... This is my first motorcycle jacket and it looks and feels awesome. I originally ordered a large but I found that the leaves were a little too long so I exchanged it for a medium and RevZilla made that switch super easy. March 29, 2012

A shopper asked: im about 6'1, 240lbs, 46" Chest, 40"waist...what size would you say i should get? Apr 29, 2014

Rick P: I would suggest XL, this jacket has a generous cut to it. However, there are other variables that will effect your sizing; your arm length, build, how you want it to fit, etc. To give you a comparison, I wear a large, I'm 5'10", 200 lbs, 45"-46" chest, athletic build. This jacket is loose in the waist, but the arm length is good, the armor is right wear it should be. In the Icon Contra jacket I can fit into a medium with the liner in. I hope this helps. Safe riding. May 13, 2014

Bryce C: I would suggest at least a large but an XL might be better suited for you. The inner lining is removable for warmer weather which gives a bit more room in the jacket for airflow/comfort. Apr 30, 2014

Andrew W: I'm 5'10 and a fluctuating weight between 180lbs and 200lbs. I ordered a Medium and fits perfectly. So you would definitely want bigger if they have it. Hope that helps May 4, 2014

A shopper asked: Hey there, I'm 6'4" 210 lbs. I'm tall and slender with lond arms. What size would you recommend? Sep 11, 2014

Rick P: I would not recommend this jacket for your build, it will be baggy. This jacket also has a full sleeve liner, when removed REALLY affects the fit. You could probably go with either a LG or an XL. The sleeves on the LG will be a bit short and the XL will be very baggy. I am 5'10", 200 lbs, athletic build, the LG is baggy on me. The armor lines up good. Sep 25, 2014

Sean J: Im tall (not so slender lol) 6'2" 220 and a Large is a perfect fit for me. Little tight across the waist for me but not an issue. Large should be a great fit for you too. I love this jacket btw, very comfortable, big pockets, breathes reasonably well for a textile/leather combound. Sep 11, 2014

A shopper asked: Trying to decide between the Icon Compound and the Joe Rocket Reactor 3.0. I'm 5'10, 170lbs, chest 39, waist 32, long arms. Any advice on differences in build quality and fit? I'm worried about the Compound being cut too large. I have a pair of the Compound overpants, so going all Icon would let me zip them together and such. May 30, 2014

Rick P: My wife has a couple of Joe Rocket pant/ jacket combos, they seem solid. That is all I know of Joe Rocket. The Icon Compound jacket is cut somewhat large. I am 5'10", 200lbs, athletic build and the size Lg was a bit baggy on me through the stomach area. Although the arm length was good. I could have gone with a Medium in the Compound. As a point of reference the Medium Contra jacket is a tiny bit snug with the full sleeve liner in it and without it the Medium Contra was a perfect fit. I hope this helps, good luck and safe riding. John r: You're about the same build as me and I really loved the jacket. I thought the arms were maybe a little long when not riding but good jacket I actually took an 80 mph crash and came up clean and the jacket helped no doubt in my mind. Jun 15, 2014

r!d3R250 k asked: HI. I am looking for gears to learn on.
so I am looking at this and the compound mesh. what is the difference? also, which on gives the most protection.

i am also looking into the protective vests like the bionic set, so do i need those and a jacket? or are those just for times when i want to wear a normal hoodie to ride out?
thanks.

Larry M: First off, you should wear ATGATT…All The Gear All The Time!! A hoodie is for cool days while "standing" around "talking" about riding. Dress for the fall…not the ride. jmho

The Compound combines Leather and Textile for a lighter and very protective jacket. The Mesh version will flow more air, but doesn't offer the liner for cooler days/nights. Both have CE armor protection and the reduced price for the value received is difficult to ignore.

Found the jacket to run large in sizing, might order down one size and use the return/exchange policy to adjust as/if needed.

Rick P: The Compound Mesh has no liner. An armored vest has a lot less protection. If you learning, get a jacket. Try on several brands and check out videos reviews, but Icon or Alpinestars are both good brands. Good luck. May 13, 2014

A shopper asked: Wondering if there was any point to trying this one? About a 48" chest and currently 42" waist. Will it be long enough? What size? I took a 3x in a Joe Rocket Ballistic 11.0 but it floats around the waist a bit. Apr 9, 2012

RevZilla: Based on your measurements, a size 3XL should be enough for you to fit properly in the Icon Compound Jacket. Apr 10, 2012

Larry M asked: Are the ICON Motorhead and Compound "textile" jackets discontinued, they don't appear on the ICON website. If so, are they being replaced with the Sanctuary model? Thanks. Mar 13, 2014

Larry M: Will answer my own question…Phoned ICON and was told that "in fact" both the Motorhead and Compound "textile" was well as the "mesh" have been discontinued and replace by the Sanctuary jacket. Mar 15, 2014

A shopper asked: compound textile VS overlord resistance? why? Sep 9, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Kirby P: Depends on what you are going for. The Overlord resistance is an Attack fit which will be a tight fit typically meant for when riding in racing positions. The Compound is a sport fit so it will be a little loser fit but still articulated enough for racing. I'm currently riding a 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 which has a more upright riding style so I have no need for an Attack fit. So if your back has more of an aggressive riding style maybe an attack fit like the overlord will be better for you.

The overlord resistance is also a full textile where the compound is both leather and textile. This being said the Overlord resistance will be more light weight, but the leather on the compound is going to give you better durability for "wear and tear" along with better durability if you happen to get into a crash (hopefully not).

depending on your riding season, with the compound being half leather it works great from early spring to late fall riding. I live in Northern Minnesota so this is great for me.

Personally I prefer the compound.

Breakdown:
Leather where it counts
Great durability
Great for cooler weather conditions
It does not limit movement
Ratchet adjusted sides for more improved fit if needed

Hope this helps you.

Samuel A asked: I'm about 6' with a 38" chest and a 34" sleeve... what size would you recommend for me? Medium? Aug 7, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Chris KStaff: Icon tends to fit a bit large, so I would think a Small would fit you better in the chest. With that said, a Medium will fit you better in the arms. You might consider a different brand, like Spidi or Dainese, that fits a tall/slim frame better. Aug 7, 2013
