The modular design allows the "flip-jaw" to rotate further back on the crown of the helmet. The further rotation of the flip-jaw not only increases the user's line-of-sight when in the raised position, but it also lessens the user's fatigue by maintaining an even distribution of weight across the helmet.

Great helmet for the price (It's safe too!) First of all, this helmet has great featues for the price. There are down sides to this helmet. It is loud and it is a bit heavy but all in all a great value. Now, here is testimonial you rarely get in reviews like this... I will tell you that this helmet will hold up in a crash and hold up well. I had to retire it this past weekend when someone pulled out in front of me. I was moving at about 40mph and had to panic stop. The front locked up and I tried to recover but could not. Luckily was tossed somewhere between high and low side instead of hitting their car broad side. I hit head first on the left side of the face guard and then slid on my left side for about 20 feet. There are deep scratches but it protected me from impact and from losing my face on the blacktop. I was worried about how a modualr helmet would hold up in a crash. This was not a high speed accident but something you could expect on surface streets and I walked away with only minor road rash on my left knee and some sore muscles.....If you want a good helmet at an affordable price...this is your helmet. First helmet purchase As a new rider, I was looking for a good value purchase. Here are my impressions after 2-1/2 years of use. This helmet is LOUD and HEAVY. I have had to use the Blue Hearos Ear Plugs - Xtreme Protection Series, and I still think the wind noise it too much. There is not much else I know what to do about it except buy a better helmet next time. Also, the slider on top, for the tinted inside visor, broke after about a year of use. So I am forced to "nod" my head downward quickly to get the visor to move down enough to grab it with my fingers. Otherwise, I like the design. But like I said, because of the weight and noise, I will upgrade next time. April 13, 2015
Great helmet! Fits Great and Very Comfortable This is a great fitting helmet and fits true to size. I like all the vents, as I am always hot in a full face helmet. I also ordered the wireless brake light adapter and light that goes on the helmet. Very cool setup and fairly easy to do. The directions with the helmet are horrible, but look it up on youtube and it's a cinch. I am going to order one of these for my wife too! Get it!! You won't be disapointed. May 25, 2015
Great Helmet Great features. Definitely best bang for the buck. Revzilla also price matched this helmet, hence the 5 stars in that category. The air vent covers fall off and the chin guard as well. but for this price point I am not complaining. The style is good too. Flat black can't go wrong. I wear a 7 5/8 hat so the XL fits perfect. Thanks Revzilla for the fast ship too. May 17, 2015
Suprisingly comfortable The helmet is heavy but the guts are so plush you won't feel it. For the price the helmet is an extremely great value. You get a ton of vents, the LED back light, and a drop down sun visor. The size is true to their chart. At first when you put it on it feels heavy and tight. After an hour and a half of it on I forgot it was even there. The insides make are so squishy soft that it's like wearing pillows. May 10, 2015
good ventilation This helmet has great features for the money and its probably the quietest helmet I own. I was mainly shopping for a modular with ventilation and this one has it and more, perfect balance between intake and exhaust . Can actually feel the air movement and still be quiet. Reviews said it was heavy and it might be but I really don't notice it. May 1, 2015
The Perfect Helmet I love my new helmet. After much research I decided this one was best for me*. The major selling points for me were the light in the rear and the flip down sun shades. I've also purchased the brake light assembly and will have that installed shortly. Once added, I wonder if the original functionality of the light will still work. I plan to use this helmet for highway, cloudy and or evening driving. *The cheek pads were too thick but that was an easy fix. I purchased thinner ones. April 27, 2015
Not a bad helmet for your money I was pretty stoked when I bought this helmet. I have had modulars before but my latest was 3 years old and it was time for an upgrade. First thing I noticed was the look. Awesome. I ride a 2012 Yamaha Stryker, a cruising bike, so I get the odd glance when I ride up with a full face on. This one gets me looks because its straight awesome. I have only been able to wear it a few times because the snow wont leave North Dakota alone, but this is what I can tell you so far. The Good: -The vents are metallic grill inserts that really pop against the flat black I ordered. -The design offers a nice smooth cut through the wind. Pretty easy on the neck at 75mph and its easy to look over your shoulder for those pesky 4 wheels. -The padding is awesome. Makes you feel nice and secure without squeezing to tight. -Airflow is great. Vents work amazing and I haven't had an issue with overheating. Of course I haven't ridden in hot weather yet but so far so good. -Color options are basic but that flat black is NICE. -The helmet surprisingly fits just a bit big for all the padding. I used the measurement chart and I am active duty so I KNOW what size hat I wear but that being said its actually nice for me because I like to wear a head scarf (hey, 34 is cold at 6am) and it gives me a nice secure fit when I have it on. -I didn't notice it when I bought it online but this helmet has a freaking red LED light on the back. You push the button once, it lights up. You push it again, it flashes slow. One more push and it is a fast flash. Talk about awesome. Not to mention the "Safety Aspect" of visibility to anything behind you. But who really cares about that? Its a freaking LED light on the back of your helmet!! Come on! The Bad: -I ride with headphones in so I cant really speak for road noise but it does tend to get windy at times. -I haven't gotten used to the wind guard under the chin, especially when raising and lowering the face you have to tilt your head a bit. For the chilly North Dakota mornings its great, but its taking a bit of getting used to. -The visor tends to fog up on cold mornings. Could be the wind guard under the chin but for the good airflow it was unexpected. Also, the thumb grip to raise the visor is a bit small to work against the resistance of the mechanism. Again, the helmet is new so I hope it will smooth out with wear. -My last helmet had the modular release button just inside the bottom of the chin and you just had to push the button and raise. It was a natural motion. This helmet has a sliding latch on the front of the chin and you have to push up on it and then raise the face. Obviously it needs worked a bit to break in and get smooth but the motion seems unnatural. -Oh what I wouldn't give for a quick release helmet strap instead of having to buy one and install it myself! At least include one. OK, I am off my soap box. P.S. First order from Revzilla. Fantastic job guys! No issues, fast delivery, perfect shape. Will DEFINITELY make this my first stop from now on. RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
GUIDO J: the look of the helmet Apr 23, 2015
Ryan S: I knew I wanted a modular helmet. This one had a great price for the options I was looking for: built-in sun shades, modular capabilities, and cool style.
The back light is what really sold it for me though. 3-styles: always on, blinking slowly, blinking quickly. Safety first!

Kam E: HJC IS MAX BT unimpressed me... -_-
-price(first helmet)
-Lots of vents (desert)
-Back light (night time visibility)

Faran R: I already have a full face helmet and I wanted a modular for street riding and just get lazy at times with a face full.
After ready reviews from many different websites on sub $200 helmets this seemed to have received the most positive feed back.
Hopefully it doesn't disappoint. Gmax does seem to carry really comfortable helmets for the price.

Roberto B: I Have the Non-Modular version of this helmet, and like the style and the rear light. The modular feature makes it easier to talk without removing the helmet. May 2, 2014
Gary W: Like brand and apperance Mar 27, 2014
Andrew N: I picked this helmet because I had seen it in a shop where I live and had a chance to try it on and test out the modular features its has. The helmet feels very solid and provides good air flow when your riding. It also comes in an XS and that is very much appreciated as I have had a very hard time finding a helmet that will fit correctly and do what I want it to. Mar 24, 2014
brent b: I like the look of this one and it had much better reviews than the cheaper helmets I looked at as well as some of the more expensive ones. I had 200 dollars as my self inflicted limit. I wanted a bluetooth but it looks as though anything under 450 isn't worth buying as a single unit. Mar 22, 2014
Rhea s: This is a great helmet and I love it so much. Sep 24, 2013
Chris B: I went with this helmet because of the features and the price. I was originally looking at the regular 54s, but then I saw this styling and really liked it. Sep 8, 2013
Phillip M: Great fit and nice graphic design. Sep 5, 2013
A shopper asked: I have a full face helmet but wear glasses. I was interested in this helmet bc it was recommended by another Vstar owner. I like the brake light ability and the modular aspect.

Will the face close if I'm wearing my glasses or do I have to take them off, close the helmet, then slip them in through my visor like my full face one?

I like the communication pockets in the ears. How does that work or do you need other items?

Travon M: As far as the glasses go, you can slide the helmet on A LOT easier with the face open, and yes it will close with no problem. Another awesome thing about this is the inner shaded visor that slides down from the top so you do not have to worry about shades or buying an additional dark visor (this also gives you good distance from glasses to inner visor). I tend to put this helmet on with my glasses already on, close the face, drop the inner visor and ride out. As far as the communication pocket goes, I used a wired Bluetooth (earbuds with mic towards the bottom of the cord) which seemed to fit good, however; with the mic below the front of the helmet, I got a lot of wind gushing in to the mic so no one could understand me. I'm sure if the mic was attached to the ear itself,
It would sound a lot better. Overall, this helmet has good ventilation, great comfort, and to me is a must for glasses.

Chad S: Don't use the communication piece but if I wear glasses I put them on with the face open. Not through the visor. I think you need glasses that are thin and hug your head though. I have a certain pair with thin ear pieces. My Oakley eye glasses are too wide (rounded) off my head and I would be afraid of bending them in under the tight foam. The light is just flashing. Doesn't really do anything with breaks that I know of. Dec 15, 2014

Isaak R: The face is able to close even with glasses on. The ear pockets do require an aftermarket communications set, the helmet does not come with a radio or bluetooth headset. Dec 15, 2014
