Good upgrade The guards are good quality and were fairly easy to install. They are compatible with the HT skid plate. I do not notice any additional vibration after installing the guards. I have not dropped the bike and so don't know how much protection they offer. I find the guard useful as a handle to pull the bike up on a centerstand. June 12, 2014
Great once worked thru the defects Overall, these crash bars are a great fit for the KLR650. The fit and finish was mostly good, with an exception in the case of the ones I received. I haven't had them on long enough to have tested their durability, but given other reviews I give them an excellent and I'll change if I learn otherwise. The problem I had with mounting them, there was one missing bolt for the cross bar piece, so I ran to the hardware store and got another one. When I tried to put the bolt in, it was really resistant, thought I had the wrong thread or something. Nope, it was just a really bad nut that is welded onto the cross bar. I didn't have the right tap to fix it, so went with brute force which flattened the threads. I would suggest that Givi should tap these after the welding process and painting to make sure the threads are clean. I would buy them again. I think for the price, and lower weight compared to other brands, this is a good balance. June 2, 2014
Givi Crash bars on the KLR650 USED WITH the Altrider Skid The coverage on the side of the crash bars is regrettably somewhat limited. An aggressive tip over created some rash on the upper fairing and the top of the main fairing. They didn't deform however and only scuffed a little bit after sliding 5' down a hill of bowling ball rocks. Great product and for the buck, darn effective. They mount up well with the Altrider skid plate, also sold by Revzilla. Great combo and they look good together. June 2, 2014
Nice engine guards These babies have done well. They have held up to my falling over in dirt and mud. No bends. They stick off the sides about 1 1/2inches so it's easy to throw your legs up during a ride like highway pegs. I'm happy I bought these guards. March 10, 2014
I came across 2 issues.... Looks and feels flimsy. Looks good on the bike. Came out of the packaging with a scratch.....no big deal, I lay the bike down frequently. The holes that connected the center bracing were too small I had to drill them out. The center bracing a looks as if it will collapse and bend into the motor or the starter if a hard fall should occur. I also would have liked a little more protection for the radiator. I have yet to test durability and performance thus the average rating. December 2, 2013
easy ferring removal I ellected to purchase the Givi over the SW motech, and happy trails nerf bars with the idea of service ability and opens up the door to more options with other accessories such as skid plates, etc. you see alot of guys stating it taking them hours to install the nerfs and i am a guy that likes to tinker the last thing i want to do is spend hours removing something to get to my point of intrest of which not mentioning how long it takes to get to that. The SW motech i found to be a nice setup but could see there being issues fitting certain after market skid plates i might be wrong but in all i purchased this engine guard with practicality in mind with service ability and weight in factor of course. Down side of the engine guard I find is a large amount of vibrations at certain speeds and RPM but once installed the altrider skid plate with its 8 dampners all that went away. since my purchase i have disassembled my motorcycle countless times adding mods and making adjustments and not once have the guards been in my way. overall i believe i got what i paid for out of this product but do believe Givi should address the vibration issue in some way. easy install great welds and finish Easy to install. it took a half hour including removing my skid plate. the finish is perfect and so are the welds. much stronger than i thought it was going to be. Tip. leave all bolts loose until they are all in, then tighten September 9, 2013
Look good, seem sturdy, haven't tested them These look good on the bike and they seem pretty solid. Instructions weren't the best, and getting them together by myself wasn't without challenges, but in the end it probably took about 2 hours. That includes forgetting the o-rings on the center connector the first time around and then removing the bolts one at a time to apply thread locker after I was happy with everything. The right and left sides didn't line up perfectly and weren't closing on the center connector completely, but after everything was tightened up, I gave it a good whack with a rubber mallet and it popped together perfectly. Haven't tested them yet.... May 21, 2013

A shopper asked: Do the bars have a place to mount highway foot pegs? Apr 22, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jeremy B: They do not have a pre-fab place to mount but I'd guess you could mount pegs that clamp onto the bars. I just lay my legs on top of the bars when I need to stretch. The bars reach forward only so far, so maybe the mounted pegs will be too close for you. I'm tall so the farther out the better in my opinion.

Also in my opinion I think these bars stiffen my stock KLR which noticeably reduced noise and vibration on the highway. Bonus!

Skylar M: Depending on how the pegs attach, I would say it should be fine. If they are made to attach to pipes/tubes of some kind I think it would work.

I actually have found that I am able to rest my calves on top of the givi bars. For me, that has worked just fine instead of purchasing pegs. Although, I guess it would depend on the boots you have as different models may make for different comfort levels. I hope that helps some

Christopher S: Anywhere along the straight sections of the molded piping, someone could fit a highway peg assembly. I enjoy resting my calves on the engine guard to relax my legs on the highway. I've thought about adding pegs, but it's low on my to do list. But it is "doable", as far as I know. Apr 22, 2014

Ron S: You should be able to mount a clamp-on type of peg,but all you have to do is stretch out your leg and put it across the top of the loop. It is surprisingly comfortable to do this. I was originally going to mount pegs myself, but I don't think that I will now. Apr 24, 2014

Rex T: Hi guys.

Yes aftermarket foot pegs could be fitted to these bars. Whilst there is no specific place on the bars to mount them, with a bit if thought, an aftermarket pair could certainly be attached

Cheers!!

R.J. K: You can buy bolt on peg mounts and put them pretty much anywhere you want on these crash bars, I'm pretty sure twisted throttle carries them, probably a few other sites as well. I just put my legs on top of the crash bars though. Apr 22, 2014

William H: While there are no factory holes or mounts there are ample spots to drill or clamp on highway pegs. I don't do a lot of highway miles on this bike but if I did I wouldn't hesitate to add a set. Apr 23, 2014

R.J. K: Lines up great, also works with the alt rider plate really well, as well as the moose racing plate, probably the tour tech as well, and I can tell you from experience that they protect the engine at least up to 35 mph. Oct 10, 2013

Ron S: yes, they do work with the stock skid plate. Just mount all retainers loosely before finally tightening any of them. I had no problem with these guards and recommend them for their quality and ease of installation. Oct 10, 2013

A shopper asked: Is the Givi crash bar compatible with the Moose Racing skid plate on a 2012 KLR? I was given and recently installed the plate and want to make sure I purchase bars that will fit with it. Thanks. May 15, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
John B: The crash bars use existing rear mounts and have replacement mounts from your downtube in the front. If the skid will work with the stock setup, chances a quite good that they will work with the givi. I have an altrider skid and they worked very well together, especially when I dropped my bike hard! Rex T: Going by the picture on Ebay of a Moose Racing Skid plate, Yes these Givi crash bars will fit.
