Not great, but it's the only option
This rack is overpriced and difficult to install. I only recommend it because it is the only option available from Givi for mounting the E55 topcase to my FZ6. It's just a couple of steel tubes with some brackets and fasteners; it shouldn't cost this much. Plus, it's useless without the top plate and a top case. Once you buy all 3 items, it's an expensive purchase.

Many reviews have complained about inadequate directions. I thought the directions were OK, but not great. The real issue with this rack is that it is difficult to install--it took me 2 hours. When I'm paying this much for a mounting system that is designed for my particular bike, I expect it to be easy to install. I had to bend the parts into place, while holding a stackup of 3 different pieces that needed to be sandwiched together with a small screw. And the access to one screw in particular (shown in photo) was very difficult because the plastic (or perhaps a very low-strength metal) screw head for my stock exhaust shield is stripped, so I wasn't able to remove the shield. I suppose I can't criticize this part for that issue; Yamaha simply shouldn't use such a weak screw for the exhaust shield. But this fact made the installation frustrating nonetheless.

Additionally, I've heard that the rack is not compatible with many aftermarket exhausts without custom fabrication. I would like to see Givi offer alternative racks that work with popular aftermarket exhausts.

Once installed, the rack is strong and secure. But the difficult installation and high cost make me unhappy with this product overall.

Expensive, but the only option and works well
The FZ6 version of these are a bit wonky to install because of the support bracket that goes around the muffler cover. The cover has to come off, which is a little fussy if you haven't done it before.

The instructions are adequate. Fitment was a little off, including a piece being welded on not square, which made getting that bolt in and properly lined up a chore.

If you've got a GIVI top box, you don't really have a choice, and it's expensive, but it works and it's solid. You have to get the mounting plate as well.

Worth the Money
As with all Givi products, this item is expensive but worth the money. It fit my FZ6 almost perfectly making for an easy install and the included instructions are straight forward. This piece is very sturdy and basically functions as an extension of the bike's frame.

Givi Monorack for FZ6
This is one of those products that no one will notice unless it looks bad. I have seen other bikes with tubular racks and they look like an erector set!

The Givi looks like a product engineered for form AND function. The shape, the curve, the recessed bolts on the side. Beautiful. Looks as good with the case off as it does with the case on.

Took 20 minutes to install (1 person install) and everything fit great. The instructions took a little more effort to understand (more 'Cave Paintings" than step-by-step), but once I unpacked and sorted the parts, it all made perfect sense.

Top quality.

Looks factory installed
As with everything GIVI the price is high for the materials used. Despite the price the brackets work well and once installed it looks like yamaha designed the mount itself. It fits perfectly and looks good on my FZ6. The installation instructions are clear enough to follow but not as detailed as I would have liked.
Just a tip on installation with the m5 mounting plate, once you have these brackets in place leave the mounting bolts loose until you finish installing the plate, then tighten the rest of the mounting bolts.

Solid supports on my FZ6
Easy enough to install, solid. Connect to the frame in a solid way. But after install I noticed my supports weren't exactly setting even. It was likely just minor differences in the welds. I used a little muscle and got them level.

Great rack, bummer to install on FZ6!
For what looks to be a fairly simple rack, this thing is a b**** to install. It took two of us 2 hours to put this thing on my 2005 Yamaha FZ6 -- mainly because nothing wanted to align. We had to shove and push body parts and rack parts just to get the bolts to line up, and then the bolts didn't want to go in. When it's finally installed, this is a great rack -- sturdy, well made, looks like it will last for many years. Just plan on plenty of install time and keep your temper!

Good quality product
Installed this on my 09 FZ6. It seems like a very robust design and fit well. The only thing is while mounting the top plate for your specific top case, make sure you leave the arms loose, install the top plate, then tighten everything up. Was a little tight getting the allen screws in under the exhaust shield, but not too bad. Directions are good with good pictures, was able to install in about an hour. So far seems very durable and not worried about losing the top case at all. Actually, the rack system looks very nice and clean with the FZ, almost like it came like that. I would recommend this product.

Works as advertised and looks good on the bike.
Installation was pretty straightforward other than the support brackets around the exhaust heat shield. Putting those two bolts in was no walk in the park but the rest of the unit went together nicely. I must say that after this install—as well as the one on my other bike—it is important to note that leaving all the connections a little loose until the M5 plate goes on is essential. The extra time spent is worth it as you have some slack with which to attach the top plate. The finished piece flows nicely with the contour of the bike and looks really good. This is a great unit and I highly recommend it.

A little fiddly to mount, but good quality
Its best to mount the adapter plate before you tighten all the rack bits down. If you tighten it down first, where the plate mounts is off kilter. Mount the plate first, and then tighten down the rack and it works like a charm.

For 2005 FZ6 -for adventure touring.
Not sure I'll ever want a top case, certainly not in near future.
So this part is out of stock. Don't want to buy set up unless absolutely certain it will be available soon.
Is there a mount system the would NOT need the top plate?
Suggestions? (Wish all needed parts were linked to case page)

BEST ANSWER: SW-Motech (Twisted Throttle) makes one, but it is very expensive -- $650+ for the rack and topcase. The Givi setup is what I have on my '05, and it's the one I would recommend. With the E45 topcase, it was about $320 for the rack, plate and topcase.
