Works exactly as it should. Its very easy to install and works both on the large diameter exhaust can or farther forward on the header. I don't have a Giant Loop bag, but I do have some other saddle bags that it has saved from melting. The heat shield itself still does feel hot, but it's no longer hot enough to melt plastic.
I recently changed to an after market pipe and I transferred the heat shield over. After driving a few miles and stopping, I could smell melting plastic. The saddle bags and plastic over the heat shield area were fine, but my side panel was melting further up where the new, wider, pipe was touching it. So I'm buying a second heat shield.

Not bad at all.
When I changed from a stock muffler to an aftermarket pipe on my DR650, the side panel contacted the new muffler causing melting issues. This Giant Loop guard fits the bill. I suppose you could cobble one together for yourself to serve the same purpose but this straps on easily and looks pretty good doing it. No more melted panels or saddle bags.

Looks awesome, easy install. Doesn't actually work though.
Figured I'd write a review of the Giant Loop Hot Springs heat shield. Installation is straightforward, just hook the clamp, tighten and you are done. I put it on my DR350 in order to keep bags from being burned. It's an air cooled bike, so it runs fairly hot.
Basically, after running the bike normally through traffic, the heat shield is scorching hot and wouldn't do anything to stop a bag from melting. Maybe the temperature is actually lower than the muffler, but its hot enough to where it doesn't make any difference at all. Won't be purchasing for any of my other bikes.

A "must have" for your saddlebag if your exhaust are high.
Buena terminación, fácil de instalar, y la única solución para no incendiar todo con tus escapes. Al menos mas barata, liviana y práctica que utilizar un sistema de anclajes similares a los que se usan para llevar maletas (panniers) como en otras marcas.

C W: I needed a heat shield for 2003 KL250 Super Sherpa so I could hang small saddle bags on the bike. This should cover the rest of the muffler perfectly.May 9, 2015
Scott F: The original crappy folded sheet metal one sucks. Hopefully this will be more durable.Apr 2, 2014
MICHAEL M: I ride a BMW G650X-Challenge and use Kriega Overlander 30 soft luggage. I purchased this to isolate my bags from my exhaust. Haven't had the opportunity to check it's efficacy. Installed easily.Mar 7, 2014
