Fly Trekker DS Hi-Viz Helmet

The Trekker is a new dual sport helmet from FLY Racing.  It's crossover design helmet combines the best of MX and Street styling and function to create one of the most versatile helmets on the market. The Trekker is ideal for dual sport and adventure touring and offers the comfort of riding without goggles; but when the going gets rough, you can still have the option to flip up or remove the shield and throw on a pair of goggles.

Features:

  • Advanced Poly Alloy shell construction, combines high-strength poly materials to create a aggressive design that is durable and lightweight
  • Dual-Density EPS Liner helps reduce the shock of impact by creating a more progressive impact absorption zone
  • Unique visor shape allows for use of goggles when the shield is in the open or closed
  • Multi-Position, Ratcheting Face Shield
  • Removable and washable comfort liner and cheek pads help keep the interior of your helmet clean and fresh
  • 16 total vents (8 intake, 8 exhaust) circulate large volume of airflow to help keep your head cool.
  • Adjustable vents include: 1 mouthpiece, 2 brow, and 2 rear
  • D.O.T. Approved

Nice helmet for the $$. Should fit goggles fine underneath. Fits very nicely. I have a big head and got the XXL which fit fine. This helmet is noisier at street speeds than normal full-face street lids. Also, if you turn you head to the side, you'll feel more twisting. I haven't used this helmet off road yet. With normal dirt helmets, I wear glasses under goggles, or goggles w/ prescription inserts, and neither option is good in the rain. I'm hoping this helmet works out better.

Love the style, not the feel. Padding inside helmet so thin you can feel the styrofoam lining against your head, similar to a bicycle helmet. Perscription glasses don't fit well at all inside helmet. Face shield does not seal against rubber gasket and when I changed to the mirror shield the racheting mechanisim broke and had to be replaced. Changing the face shield is more difficult than it should be. I will say Revzilla has excellent customer service and very fast shipping.

Great looks, Lots of airflow even if it's a little noisy. Average weight & the sizes fit the same as Shoei helmets. This helmet & my Shoei TZR are both large & the fit is nearly identical. Good fit if you have a rounder head.

I bought this helmet specifically for my passengers. I measured them as an adult small and the Fly seems to fit them true to size. The helmet looks like a much pricier dual sport lid from a couple of feet away. Finishings are basic and vent adjusters are a little more "fiddly" when you take a real hard look, but you simply cannot beat this helmet for the price. Easily worth twice as much as the list price.

I just received my trekker ds and the paint has chips and large bubbles on the adjustable visor. that is my complaint with the helmet. i'll probably wind up sanding the visor and repainting it another color due to the terrible paint on it.
other than the paint, the helmet fits great. i ordered an XL, which is the size i have worn with several other helmet manufacturers. i read another review saying that glasses wearers should not get this helmet. i will explain where they did not... the padding in the temple area is pretty firm and for me a little overly padded. my glasses get pushed around on my face with any movement of the helmet. i'll probably trim down those pads, like i did on my scorpion exo 700.
this helmet is very light, and very stiff. i cant easily stretch the opening of the helmet outward for my big ole ears to fit in- i'm not complaining. looking at the size and shape of the opening, you would think it would be more flexible.
i havent ridden with the helmet yet. my bike is getting worked on, but with the hardware on the sides and the gaps in the shield, i will assume that there is significant wind noise and whistling. at this time that is merely an assumption though.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Answer:
Both the Trekker and the FX-39 are considered 'entry-level' in the Dual Sport Helmet world. These two are actually based off of the same shell so there aren't very many differences. We haven't gotten enough feedback to really see one pull ahead of the other, but my personal opinion goes to the FX-39. I like the way it fits and feels a bit better.

Yes, these helmets are based off the same shell so sizing should be very similar. If anything, the AFX lining and cheekpads tend to fit slightly larger.

Answer:
I own both, though in different sizes for different family members. The FLY and AFX shells and hard parts are identical, but there are differenes in the soft materials (the padding and webbing). The padding appears to be cut from identical patterns, but the materials are different. And the webbing for top of the head is different in design and material. That said, the thickness for the padding appears to be the same, so the sizes are probably the same.

The best helmets that I know of would be the Shoei Hornet and the Arai XD-3, however, we recently tried the AFX FX-39 and it works really well too! The Fly Trekker is made by the same manufacturer as the AFX, so I would imagine the same would be true for this helmet.
