Fly Trekker DS Hi-Viz Helmet

The Fly Trekker is a dual sport helmet from FLY Racing. Its crossover design combines the best of MX and Street styling and function to create one of the most versatile helmets on the market. The Trekker is ideal for dual sport and adventure touring and offers the comfort of riding without goggles; but when the going gets rough, you can still have the option to flip up or remove the shield and throw on a pair of goggles.

Features:

  • Advanced Poly Alloy shell construction, combines high-strength poly materials to create a aggressive design that is durable and lightweight
  • Dual-Density EPS liner helps reduce the shock of impact by creating a more progressive impact absorption zone
  • Unique visor shape allows for use of goggles when the shield is in the open or closed
  • Multi-position, ratcheting face shield
  • Removable and washable comfort liner and cheek pads help keep the interior of your helmet clean and fresh
  • 16 total vents (8 intake, 8 exhaust) circulate large volume of airflow to help keep your head cool
  • Adjustable vents include: 1 mouthpiece, 2 brow, and 2 rear
  • D.O.T. and ECE 22.05 certified

Excellent inexpensive dual sport helmet that's brighter than the face of sun.
Imho the best fit and finish in this price range for a DS helmet. I removed the peak since my riding is 90% street which eliminated the sail affect at higher mphs. It's impossible to ignore since it's SUPER bright and looks great with the dark smoke and mirrored face shield options.

Good Bang For The Buck
I went to my local motorcycle shop and tried on at least 40 helmets. Fit, for me, has always been the most important aspect of selecting a motorcycle helmet. I had it narrowed down to 2 helmets, the Shoei Hornet and the Fly Trekker. I was delighted to later find out that the Fly was half the price of the Shoei. It has been "all day" comfortable and overall a good product. I find it loud. You get more engine noise. But, oddly enough, has less wind noise than my previous Shoei. I love the vents. I have tried them, but this time of year, I keep them closed. The visor could be better, it only goes up 3/4 of the way. But I like that I can use it with goggles. It has gotten cold, and I have had some fogging issues of late. I will have to look into antifog coatings.

SUPER BRIGHT!
Very speedy delivery. I ordered a size L but it was snug, called customer service and they made it very simple to swap to a size XL. I love the Hi-Viz neon yellow/green! It can be seen from very FAR away. It turns lots of heads, even from fellow motorcyclists. I also like the venting and flip down face shield, no distortion in the shield. The fact that the Hi-Viz color can be seen from 1/2 mile away makes the helmet worth its weight in gold!

Great Helmet for the price
Fits true to size. Ventilation is good. The chinbar vent works really well. The top vents aren’t nearly as big as they look but they work ok. I don’t feel much air on the top of my head but my head stays reasonably cool. The visor has 5-6 detents and clear optics. At full up the visor is still in your upper line of sight a little. Plenty of room for helmet speakers……..Dumbo could get his ears in here. D ring style strap, with snap to hold end of helmet strap. Interior is comfortable. A little Noisy, has a wind roar not a whistle. Wear earplugs on long rides and you’re good. The Hi-Viz is almost painfully bright but that’s the point. I wear it on my KLR650, not the Concours. An excellent helmet for the $$

Excellent Bang for the Buck
Excellent DS helmet for the money. It is light, fits snugly, is comfortable and relatively quiet. The hi-viz color is extremely bright! The shield has lift tabs on left and right so it is easy to raise with either gloved hand, thought the action is notchy and noisy compared to my premium brand DS helmet (that only has a lift tab on the left). Two minor issues. In cold weather the shield fogs up immediately when you are not underway - I remedy this by popping it open before I stop. Once fogged, the right side clears quickly when you get underway, but the left doesn't - maybe my left nostril puts out more vapor? Also, there is a seam in the padding that occasionally and only slightly irritates the skin on my forehead where my hairline is receding. Probably not a problem for younger riders with hair there. All-in-all I am very pleased with this helmet - I use it almost exclusively over the premium one that cost hundreds more.

I have a big oval head and it fits. I haven't been able to find a helmet that fits me this good even in much more expensive brands. I like hiviz!
Kyle K on Feb 25, 2014
I went to my local motorcycle dealer and tried on 45 to 50 helmets. I have been riding for 20 years and fit is the most important feature to me. I am not sold on bling. The winner was a "toss-up" between the Shoei Hornet or the Fly Trekker. Both DS helmets fit me quite well. I really wanted a Visible Helmet for safely. So the color steered me towards the FLY. Then I discovered that it was significantly cheaper. Good bang fot the buck.

Does this helmet have the D ring closure for the chin strap or the quick release?
A shopper on Jun 20, 2011
BEST ANSWER: This uses a D-ring closure with a snap to hold end of helmet strap.
Between the Fly Trekker DS Hi-Viz Helmet and the MSR Xpedition Helmet, which is better?
A shopper on Nov 6, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I have been riding this helmet 2 yrs and have no complaints.

It is no the highest quality money can buy...then again, the quality far exceeds what I had expected for the price.

The helmet has stood up to 2 years in India with a mix of every day commuter riding with occasional adventure rides. If you are looking for value and practicality: this is your helmet.

Pros: excellent ventilation, well situated ear holes for hearing, very well constructed, great fit, great looks, visor is tough (also fits over goggles: bonus), interchangeable visor options and replacement hardware are readily available online

Cons: excessive wind noise at higher speeds (also wind deflection on visor), hi-vis paint is prone to chipping off when the helmet is even lightly scraped or dropped (SO weak)
This helmet is the same as AFX FX-39. AFX FX-39 run approximately 1/3 - 1/2 size large. Is sizing of FLY TREKKER the same?
A shopper on Jun 7, 2011
BEST ANSWER: I own both, though in different sizes for different family members. The FLY and AFX shells and hard parts are identical, but there are differenes in the soft materials (the padding and webbing). The padding appears to be cut from identical patterns, but the materials are different. And the webbing for top of the head is different in design and material. That said, the thickness for the padding appears to be the same, so the sizes are probably the same.
Some reviews state this helmet runs small, I usually wear a small in HJC MX helmets, torn between a small or medium. Anyone else that usually uses MX find it to run small or true to size?
A shopper on Feb 17, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hey- I found the helmet fairly true to size, maybe ‘slightly’ smaller. I typically wear a HJC M and the FLY was slightly smaller in M, but not much.
