Dainese Racing Leather Suit

The Racing Suit from Dainese is an ideal suit for those looking to make their first investment into track day equipment, or for the seasoned rider just looking for a great suit without having to take out a second mortgage to afford it. Constructed of race grade Tutu Cowhide leather and Dainese's S1 stretch fabric as well as laden with CE rated composite and Pro Shape protectors, the Racing offers many of the same great features found on their more expensive suits. Dainese has added strategically placed elasticated inserts to decrease break-in time and provide a much more natural feel when on the bike. The Racing may not be the most expensive suit on the market, but it offers a metric ton of bang-for-the-buck.

SIZING INSTRUCTIONS

We highly recommend finding a cloth tape measure and taking the time to take these measurements. Dainese sizes will not necessarily correlate with fitment in other brands.

  • Chest: Measure from under/top of armpit across chest to under/top of other armpit, then across back to first armpit
  • Waist: Measure at the hourglass of your torso, (circumference measured at your belly button)
  • Hips: pelvic bone to pelvic bone, the widest part of your hips below the waist
  • Inseam: from crotch to big ankle bone
  • Outseam: from waist to big ankle bone
  • Gloves: Using a flexible measuring tape, measure around your hand, behind the knuckles, not including the thumb.

Yes, they call it the Racing. Yes, that's a little presumptuous but God bless Dainese and they do what they want. This is the new Racing one-piece suit from Dainese, new for 2014. Full-grain cowhide, Tutu leather, which is water-resistant, and it's going to be premium from the Dainese line. It's what I would describe as one of their mid-range race suits with an aggressive upper body and more of a semi-aggressive, lower body preshaped. You can see Hi-Viz Brian to my left. He's having a comfortable time standing up and down, but up around his arms and his shoulders is a very aggressive preshaped.

If we're thinking about the Dainese line, there's a perf version, there's a non-perf version, there's also a lady's version. Four colors available and it's gonna be the baby brother to something like the Crono, which is gonna have exposed, hard parts. Again if you wanna take another leap forward, if you can stretch to that $1200 range, you can look at something like Laguna Seca EVO.

Now back in the suit though, we might as well talk about sizing. Brian to my left is wearing a black, white, and red perforated version, 6-foot, 195, 42-inch chest. He's wearing a size 52. You could see that he is average proportions and this fits him spot on. You could see that localized perforation coming into play. If you're concerned about fitment, remember we do ship for free over $40. As always, I'd love for you to click right here and leave your comments or questions or feedback on our YouTube channel. Keep in mind this bad boy goes up to sizes 64 from Dainese. Again they're making big boy sizes now. We're very proud of them.

If we look at this suit in general, starting at the top, we're gonna work our way down. If we noticed, it's gonna be premium cowhide. There's no external hard part sliders in the shoulders. It is a CE-rated suit passing the European safety standard. Notice the shoulders' CE-rated composite armor. You have CE-rated armor in the elbows as well as the forearm. Again if we tie in with the suit here, you can notice even the way the zipper pulls are done, they're done in that CE-rated fashion. Again they're going to have those covers along the zipper. When I open up, you're gonna see the non-removable Nanofil liner.

This is the perf version of the Dainese Racing suit. You could see here, it's localized perforation and there's more perf in the torso than you're gonna see on something like the Crono. Again great perforation scheme here. What the localization means is notice how the perforation stops. It's laser-cut. What they do is they move that perforation away from the seams, away from the zipper, away from the side seam and it gives the suit a better chance of being strong if it's under stress, i.e. if you go down.

Now if we look at it, again you're gonna see other things here on the front tying it together. S1 stretch panels that are going to flow air, they're also going to provide some flexibility there. You could see more of those S1 stretch panels tying in along the crotch area that go down in the inside of the leg. You're gonna see more localized perforation. As you move into the knee, you're gonna see elastication at the top of the knee. Notice it's the full Dainese GP style knee armor, which is a knee cap going all the way down to the shin. You'll notice that the suit absolutely comes with knee pucks as well. They're gonna be stocked and included.

Now, Hi-Viz Brian, turn and face away from me. I wanna show the side here. Notice on the side, I would say the elasticity scheme is going to be a little bit more basic. Along the back, you're going to see S1 stretch panel. Notice there's an area of perforation on the back of the bicep as well. You have micro-elastication in a limited form around the lap there tying in with the color scheme that goes all the way down. As you move down the suit, you're gonna see that you have elastication along the yoke at the lower part of the back. On some of the higher-end suits from Dainese, you're going to see elastication and a non micro-elastication, but you see full elastication in place on this stretch panel up here along the sides.

If you look at the hip, you're going to have pro-shaped hip armor that is baked and that is CE-rated shock absorbers along your hip. I do like the stitching here. They've done this stitch scheme, which again adds a little bit of flavor, adds a little bit of style to this suit. You can see it going down the side of the leg. If you look at the bottom of the leg there, you're gonna see S1 on the back of the knee as it goes into his boot.

Brian take your left leg and move it back four inches. I wanna show you the inside of the left leg here. Now on this suit, just like the Crono, there's no suit to boot combo. What that means is for some of the Dainese in-boots, you have to start at that Laguna Seca EVO if you wanna put the boot inside your cuff. On this, it's a more traditional setup where you'd wear a boot on the outside of the pant. Because of that, there's a single area for entry and exit, which is on the medial side or the inside of the calf. You're gonna see it CE-rated, so it has that cover over top of the zipper. Again very basic. You see along the back of the leg, there's a lot of S1 stretch panels there, which is gonna flow a ton of air and allow Brian to breathe.

If I had to nitpick a little bit on the back here... Turn completely backwards for me there, Brian. What you're going to see is there's no tailbone protection. You get that in the Crono. You get that in the Laguna Seca EVO. Again there's a little bit of a cost-savings here as you're coming around that $900 mark, but what you do get is the full race or full GP style hump. It's a perforated hump along the top. You're gonna have the demon logo that's going to have the stitching around it. If you come in here towards the top of the collar, you're going to notice that is a mesh cutaway, so the top of your suit is not going to get in the way of your helmet, which is a nice well thought-out feature.

Come back around the front for me there, Brian. Now again basic over top of the zipper here, keeping it in place. The inside, remember, is going to be a mesh, non-removable liner. You have to make a little bit more of an investment if you want to be able to pull that liner out and wash it. Keep that in mind. Remember four colors available. A few of the colors in perforation, not all of the colors. The lady's color schemes come in a perf version as well. Actually I believe just for the pink version, there's a non-perf to go with that as well.
