Designed specifically for riders looking for style but do not want to compromise on performance, the new Dainese D1 Kevlar Armor Ready Jeans are constructed with DuPont ™ KEVLAR ® fiber. With details such as internal reinforcements on hips and lower back in DuPont ™ KEVLAR ® jersey fabric, reflective logo on the cuff, and removeable Pro Shape soft protectors in the knees, these pants are designed to feel comfortable in the saddle.

I'm a little confused. Are last year's D1 (not Armor Ready) still available, or were they replaced by these? These D1 "Armor Ready" jeans are $20 cheaper than last year's D1 jeans - in fact they are now the same as the D6 jeans. Is the cut and fit of the current D1 jeans the same as last year's? Or the same as the D6? I recall trying both on in the store last year, and the fit of the same size D6 vs. D1 was different. They're currently shown as "pre-order". Any ETA?

On the slow boat from Italy.

I used to be in the cycling business. Getting cycling clothing from Italy was a test of patience. Orders eventually arrived, but never everything you ordered and always late in the season. Forget about ordering more inventory later on. Shop owner resorted to recruiting an Alitalia flight attendant as his importer / middle man (woman)! Worked much better.

I'm planning on ordering these pants as soon as the come in. Hopefully soon because my neighbors give strange looks every time I ride by them in my underwear!

The Dainese D1 Kevlar Armor Ready Jeans feature a short row of individual buttons for frontal fly closure. There is no rear fly, thankfully, so distinguishing it as "frontal" is a moot point.

I bought a pair of the Dainese D1 Kevlar Jeans last year but did not get any knee armor. I would like to buy some now but am unsure if this Kit J will work. They look awfully big for the pockets in my jeans. I notice the D1s are now titled "armor ready" for the Kit J. Do you think the knee armor will fit in the jeans I already have?

Sadly, no, the Kit J Knee guards will only work with the newer Armor Ready D1 jeans. They have different attachments and shapes. Your best bet would be to rock a pair of Dainese Knee V guards strapped to your legs underneath if you have the original D1's.

Answer: 
Officially, only the Kit J Knee Guards will interface with the D1 Jeans correctly (there's a little pocket that they go in). There's no reason why you couldn't use another type of armor, but our guess is that you would have some issues with it fitting properly. Since we haven't been able to try out these new jeans yet, we cannot say with certainty whether or any other type of armor would fit, but we know the pockets are pretty small - so I would be wary of trying to fit a different brand of armor in them.

SIZING INSTRUCTIONS

We highly recommend finding a cloth tape measure and taking the time to take these measurements. Dainese sizes will not necessarily correlate with fitment in other brands.

  • Chestwidth: Measure from under/top of armpit cross chest to under/top of other armpit, then across back to first armpit
  • Waist: Measure at the hourglass of your torso, (circumference measured at your belly button)
  • Hips: pelvic bone to pelvic bone, the widest part of your hips below the waist
  • Inseam: from crotch to big ankle bone
  • Outseam: from waist to big ankle bone
