Dainese Air-Frame Textile Jacket

The Dainese Air-Frame Textile Jacket opens up hot weather riding to those who still want to stay protected without suffering in a leather sweatbox. The Boomerang and Quick Dry chassis holds large mesh panels that keep air moving through the jacket while also providing abrasion resistance. Removable composite elbow and shoulder protectors boost the jackets level of safety by increase both impact and abrasion resistance in key areas. A pocket for a G1 or G2 back protector allows you to add CE level 1 or 2 back protection for a complete protection package and an included wind-breaker liner turns off the airflow if the temperature dips.

Features

  • Removable composite protectors certified to EN 1621.1/97 Standard
  • Boomerang fabric
  • Quick Dry fabric
  • Mesh fabric.
  • Neck adjustment
  • Waist adjustment
  • Wrist adjustment

  • Jacket-trousers fastening system
  • Removable wind-breaker liner
  • Sanitized lining
  • Pocket for Dainese Wave G1 and G2

Great Jacket!
The reason I feel compelled to write a review on this is because I ended up and hitting something on the road at night taking a fall at around 30-40 Mph with this thing on. I ended up hitting the road head and shoulders first and sliding down the road.

My jacket now has 3 holes in it, one about the size of a 50 cent piece on the shoulder where the pad is and 2 nickel sized holes on each arm and the only injury I came away with was a scraped knee because I was wearing regular jeans.

As far as i'm concerned this jacket does its job perfectly. Not only did It protect me when taking a fall it also kept me nice and cool when I would go out riding and I live in Florida. The only cons I can think is that it did fit a little small and that it didn't come with a back plate but that's about it.

Yes, you should buy this jacket
I've had a few different mesh / textile jackets for 80+ degree weather and this one is the best I've owned. I say it's average value only because it isn't cheap and you should expect an excellent jacket for $250 - 300 dollars. But the jacket delivers.

In Ohio we have all the seasons and for those sticky summer days - or even just an evening ride on a mildly warm day - a good mesh jacket is a must have. This one gets my recommendation for a few reasons:

It flows air. No jacket will keep you completely cool if the weather is brutal or if you're sitting in traffic on top of an idling engine while the dude in the car ahead of you isn't paying attention to the newly green light, but a mesh jacket needs to keep you cool at speed and this jacket does. The shoulder area can get a little warm but there is enough going on through the chest and back that you'll hardly notice it. A few folks here say it's not a warm enough jacket for 60 degree weather but I'd disagree. You can manage a commute at cooler morning temperatures without too much issue. Obviously once you're into 70s and lower consistently it's time to switch to your leather jacket anyway.

It holds your protection in place. This issue has always been my biggest pet peeve with mesh jackets - there isn't enough structure to really hold your pads where they need to be. Let's be honest, mesh isn't your ideal material for a crash so it needs to balance comfort and a small degree of rigidity; this jacket hits that balance perfectly and it's the best thing about product in my opinion. And yes, you should wear or insert a back protector. If you don't have one, get one.

It fits well. I'm that guy that is always between sizes. I'm 6'0" and weigh about 170 so I'm certainly on the thin side and many brand motorcycle jackets fit me too big in the stomach area. In Dainese either a 50 (sleeves just a tiny bit short) or a 52 (chest just a tiny bit big) and the European style suits me well. For a summer jacket I'd recommend going a tiny bit larger (unless it lets your protection pads move too much) only because it breaths a tiny bit better, which is why you wanted a mesh jacket in the first place.

It's high quality and looks appealing. Again, quality and appeal are expected at this price point so I won't go on and on about how well it's made. It's a Dainese and that's what we expect. Enough said.

I might make the pockets a little deeper (I wear gauntlet gloves and feel the pockets are just a bit small) and I find Dainese neck sizing to be a little inconsistent with jacket size (who are these people with 40 inch chests but a 17.5 inch necks? It traps just a bit more air up near my helmet than I'd like) but these are minor quibbles and should not keep you from this purchase. Overall solid jacket and immediately became my second favorite (right behind an older Dainese that I bought when I returned to riding). Good luck in your decision. And thanks to Revzilla guys. I only recently started using your site and it, and your service, are excellent.

Nice jacket, beautiful and excellent vent
I rode with my jacket for first time in this week end. I live in Brazil, the weather was very hot (32 C = 89,6 F), but the ventilation of jacket was very efficient.
I recomend this product

The mesh jacket to beat
I live in Singapore which is highly humid and has an average day temperature of 30-33 deg C. So you really have to have a high air-flow jacket to tolerate the heatwaves here while ensuring protection on the streets.

I've tried different types of mesh jackets but I keep coming back to the Dainese Air-Frame. This is my second Air-Frame (I sold the older one as I had lost weight and needed to go down one size)

The Air-Frame has the right mix of mesh and textile layers and flows plenty of air at all times. It's also not too flashy (I bought the full black version) and I like it that the sleeves are not fitting/tight around the forearm unlike other higher-end Dainese like the Super Speed Textile. Around the torso, the fit is good without being too tight, and like most Dainese jackets, the Air-Frame is designed largely for slim/athletic builds.

The only downside I can think of is that the mesh can make your skin around the arms feel a little itchy once in a while, but most of the time it's not an issue.

It's not cheap, but Dainese gear is worth paying for.

THE BEST MESH JACKET OUT THERE
Let me first introduce myself... I am Mr. Super Picky. Before I settled on this jacket, I had tried on the Fly Fifty5, the Spidi Net7, the Rev It Excalibur, and finally the Rev It GT-R Air. Not all are mesh, but they are all lightweight jackets that - imo- looked very nice. The Airframe is easily the most comfortable and lightest of all. It fits right (I am 5'7", 148lbs, got a size 50). Its almost like wearing a flannel shirt, so light it is. It looks terrific, better than the pictures. I actually liked the Revit GT-R very much, but it lacked an inside liner which cuts down on its seasonal versatility. The airframe has one, and again- its lighter and better looking to me. Bear with me as I mention an aside... I like astronomy and telescopes. A oft quoted saying is when buying a telescope, keep weight and portability in mind. It doesn't matter how well it sees, if its too bulky for you to haul outside or breakdown to put in your car... you will never use it. Same with this jacket. Wonderful, get one and be happy.

Ultimate Protection.
Put it like this. I have gone down twice in this jacket. Once in a low side skid in a bend, and once on a blow out. Totally unscathed and unbruised. Plus, I looked good and was comfortable while I was wearing it too. I don't think I'll ever by another jacket brand again.

Great warm-weather jacket.
Moves lots of air for hot days. Put in the liner on cooler days and is relatively warm with long sleeves underneath. I do wish the liner had a waterproof pocket, though.

Sizing was true to the published Dainese size chart. I'm 5'10", just shy of 200 with a 44 inch chest. I ordered both the 54 and 56 and had to send the 54 back as it was tight (more than just snug) across the shoulders.

The only other jacket I considered was the Rev'it Airwave, but decided against it as it does not have the wind liner.

I LOVE DIANESE!!
I have 2 other Dianese and they are absolutely the best riding jackets on the planet. I wear a 58 in their air mesh style, but wear a 60 in their solid textiles and leathers. The stitching is top notch, the seams are tight and never loosen, and the internal padding is very comfortable and never bunches up. Unfortunately I actually had to use my textile jacket a few weeks ago. I had to lay my bike down when a guy decided to run a red light while I was turning. When I laid it down at about 20mph it skidded and my left shoulder hit first directly on the shoulder pad. It was bruised a little and thats it. The jacket had a light scuff mark and a small scuff on the pad. OUTSTANDING quality and safety. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

More Versatile Than You'd Expect!
I bought this as my first jacket after finally finishing my bike build. Initially, I was worried this jacket might flow too much air, especially since it's just starting to get chilly here in the northeast. I threw those fears aside and chose this over the Airfast Leather Jacket, and hoped the Air-Frame would be as versatile as I hoped. Yes, the Airfast is leather and would offer more protection and wind resistance. But I was looking at the non-perforated version, and was worried about using it during the warmer months.

So far this jacket has not disappointed me. It was ~45 degrees the other day. I threw the wind liner in the jacket, and was able to squeeze a hoodie under the jacket too. I was perfectly warm on my cruise (~40mph). The coldest part were my hands, from my non-existent gloves.

A note on sizing. I wear a size 44, and it fits like a glove. Sizing was spot on to the size chart. Seriously, Dainese makes so many sizes it's hard to pick the wrong one if you size yourself correctly. Main reason I chose Dainese is because they're one of the few who actually MAKE a jacket my size. The fit is definitely slim and euro cut, which I like. However with that said, I was still able to squeeze a hoodie (which was also slim cut, not sure a baggy hoodie would fit) under the jacket. The arm adjustments are nice to keep the arms from getting all baggy in the wind. The leather lined collar and sleeves are a nice touch, too.

Overall, 2 thumbs up from me. Also, 2 thumbs up for Revzilla customer service when I called them asking for solid recommendations. They really came through to help a newbie!

If it's too hot for this jacket you're probably on fire.
You'll appreciate the impressive airflow that this jacket allows every single time you roll away from a stop light. It is wonderful.

The only criticism I can come up with is that there aren't tall sizes but I'm a skinny dude with a long torso.

Why did you choose this?
RevZilla Store
Needed a hot /cool weather So-Cal friendly jacket.
Joon L on Oct 25, 2016
I chose this jacket for a few reasons. 1.) Dainese has a good reputation for quality. 2.) Seems like a great value for under $200 (after applying my Zillacash to the closeout price). 3.) Looks to have decent protection for a mesh jacket (positive reviews from people who have crashed in it are helpful). 4.) I'm not a big branding guy...the Dainese name and logo are there, but they're pretty subdued. Looking forward to getting this jacket soon!

The look of the jacket is superior to many of the others I see on the site. Along with the countless positive reviews for this jacket. Dainese is one of the best brands on the market so I already feel the protection benefit. Looking forward to using this jacket every day.

Fantastic jacket for warm weather riding. Comfortable fit, great air flow.
MassimoGRF on Mar 22, 2016
Needed something lighter for the warmer days, Dainese is a brand I trust. If I'm going to sacrifice a little protection for some comfort in warmer weather, I'd prefer to get the best quality money can buy. I Love this jacket!

Coming from Scotland, now living in Florida, I cringe at bikers who wear shorts and t shirts while riding. This jacket, while providing protection for elbows and shoulders, keeps you cool in the Florida heat. A back protector insert can also be used

it looks awesome, offers great protection, and is wearable in the california sun.

Lightweight and free flow design. Great protection on shoulders and forearms playable plastic top with foam padding, however the text tile/fabric does not hold up too well against road abrasion. I have been down and it tore a whole in my sleeve along my forearm.

Hi, I was going through the Dianese sizing chart. I measure: Chest- 40.94 inches, Sleeves- 25.7 inches, Neck- 16 inches, Height - 74.4 inches. I seem okay to fit into a 'Jacket tall sizing' 52. Except for the sleeves where a 54 would have come closer.

My question is 1) Should I be worried that the sleeve length on the 52 (25.2 inches) being too short for me and go up a size to the 54 where the sleeve length is 25.6inches.? My sleeve length is 25.7 but I can't really jump up to a 58.

2) What is the difference between a jacket tall sizing and a regular sizing? According to the chart I don't fit into a regular 52 but do fit a tall sizing 52 (apart from the sleeves being short). Are the tall and the regular two separate fits? I am a bit confused here because there isn't a tall size option while purchasing.

Thank you.
A S on Nov 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: There is no tall jacket size. I'm relatively tall and slim - 6' with a 40" chest - and ordered a 52. I found this jacket to be large in the chest and have long sleeves, but a relatively short torso. I would say, based on your measurements, that a 52 would be your best bet, however I returned this jacket due to odd fitment. Consider the Rev'It Airwave 2 jacket, which fits me perfectly.
Is the windproof liner also waterproof? will it hold up to rains?
A shopper on Dec 12, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Light rain yes, downpour no. This jacket is a great summer and spring jacket breathes well and the windproof liner helps in the cold. I live in Tucson Arizona were our winters are very mild. I just wear a sweater or jacket underneath and it does well. As far as rain goes you will find yourself soaked pretty fast especially highway and freeway speeds. I love mine, and I also got the upgraded back protector. I'm 5'7 150 lbs. And toned and got a size 52. When I usually wear 46 to 48 jacket. A 54 would of been perfect but I'm happy with it overall. Hope that helps.
Protection: does the Dainese Air-frame Textile Jacket coem with shoulder and elbow protection as standard?
Stephen E on May 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I laid my bike over around thanksgiving last year going maybe 35-40 mph and the shoulder/elbow protection fully protected my upper body from bruising and scraping! Awesome product.
Hi, I'm 5'8" with a 38.5" chest. Should I take the 48 or the 50?
Thanks
A shopper on Apr 13, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I found these to fit comfortably (they are not supertight because they do not stretch much), and you don't want it flapping around as you ride, so you should try 48 IMHO.
I'm 6'0", 40 chest with sleeve length of 33 (work shirt length - i realize dainese measures differently). I've worn a 52 dainese leather jack and like the sleeve length and torso length, but just a very tiny bit big through the chest. But with back protector it's fine and I like to be able to throw on a sweat shirt on occasion when it gets cold. That said, I suspect a 50 would be just perfect in chest. So my question here is if I buy a 50 as a warm weather jacket (where I'd pretty much just be in a t shirt with a back protector), are the sleeves going to be too short? Yeah I'm thin and on the tall side. dainese / Icon fits me best, just seems I'm always in between sizes. Thanks.
A shopper on Aug 9, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I looked into this for a similar reasons, and the sleeves on the size 50 are about a half an inch shorter than the 52. So if you can remember where the sleeve came to, you can measure from there. Don't forget to account for riding position when thinking about the sleeve length though. I stuck with the 52 so that the sleeves would cover the base of my gloves.
At 100F it will be hot no matter what. BUT, if I wear a jacket in that heat which one should I choose - Flux or Frame?(includes some stop and go riding)
A shopper on Mar 29, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Hands down, the Air-Frame. Not only does it allows maximum flow at speed, when stopped you will appreciated your sweat evaporating quickly. My favorite mesh I have ever owned.
Is this jacket a successor to the Dainese Shotgun jacket? Also are there any Mesh/textile jackets in Tall Sizing like their Racing Jacket?

What about elbow protectors?
Jose D on Oct 28, 2013
BEST ANSWER: It has elbow pads and shoulder pads. I bought the dianase back protector too.

I actually went down/across a hood in this jacket. It got tore up a bit where it hit the asphalt but I've still woren it since I did fracture my previusly injured shoulder but it wasn't the one that took the impact so i think it was just bad luck. I would recomend it for sure. It really is a jacket for hot weather and when you really don't want to wear a a jacket, but know the reality of how little people pay attention when driving these days.
Is the outside or inside pocket waterproof (for cellphone storage) ?
A shopper on Jun 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. There is not a waterproof pouch. The inside pocket would be exposed to the mesh. The outside hand pocket isn't "waterproof" but isn't mesh. It's regular material. It would be okay in a sprinkle but not waterproof.

This is one of the larger air flow jackets in the Dainese line. It's going to flow some of the most air in that hot weather specific riding condition. It's another nice pairing option for the Drake Air Textile Pants.

So, what you're going to see is the main construction, that in the impact areas has a textile, but in the chassis it's going to be a mix of standard mesh as well as boomerang, mesh, which is a tighter weave. It offsets the style a little bit, it's got a really nice line to it. The Air-Frame Textile Jacket has the leather Dainese logo across the front. The beauty of this jacket is that you can  really stretch it two, to and a half seasons. Hot weather riding? You're perfect. Early to mid-fall, early spring, there's a wind-proof liner that zips in very quickly to this guy that you can quickly pull out. So, what you have the ability to do, is turn that air flow down a notch, and maybe even add a thermal liner on those colder morning, and you can really stretch this guy.

It has all the same features that you see from Dainese, from it's style perspective, the embossed logo buttons, you have a nice leather roll comfort collar here. If we open it up, I'm going to show you it's a two snap at the top. Open this guy up, you can see this internal liner here is rib stopped and behind it's going to be that basic mesh. There is a 360 zip, but really this wind-proof liner is going to be that air blocking feature to allow you to stretch this into other seasons of the year.

Turn and face the side for me, Jason. You saw a double snap across the bicep. You have a slight stretch panel here under the arm, and then you have the microflection across the bicep here too, to be seen riding at night. Turn backwards for me Jason. The coolest thing, I think, in my opinion about this guy from a style perspective, you have the two big Dainese Demon Eyes here on the back. You see the logo? It's reflective batch, but you have a main construction of boomerang mesh with a standard mesh, which is a wider weave that makes up the mirroring of the Dainese logo that flows down the back here. So, it's just a nice touch there. It's a style omit. You're looking in the $200-$300 range.

Turn back around for me Jason. Jason is 5'1'', 175 lbs, 40 inch chest. He's wearing a size 50, this would be his size. Step down here, it's going to be maybe a Zyntecs or Air 2 Mesh Jacket, a step up is going to be the Shotgun or the Portland 2, which have a little bit less mesh, start to have a little bit more protective elements, slightly different styles. And remember; the match for this guy is going to be the Drake Air Pants. Other colors available, this is black. There are a few other colors, they all have black chassis and they have some different colors, some accent colors. So, those, are red and there's some other colors as well.
