Bell Revolver Hi-Viz Helmet

Convenience meets confidence with Bell’s all-new Revolver modular helmet. By harnessing the design horsepower of the marquee Bell Star and the extensive R&D know-how of Bell’s Santa Cruz, Calif. engineering team, we’ve made a flip-up that’s as beautiful as it is functional.

One look and it’s easy to see the family resemblance—the new school shaping and contours that are the signature of the Star (as well as the value-minded Vortex and new mid-line RS-1) are clearly evident and functional in the Revolver.

Like its siblings, the Revolver features Bell’s Velocity Flow Ventilation system to usher cooling air through the helmet. The system’s use of precisely-placed flow separator combined with its truncated shape make for an inherently stable aerodynamic signature.

The Revolver includes modular-specific features like the integrated internal Sun Shade—a short, dark shield independent of the main shield—which drops down with the flick of a lever to fight bright sunlight. A robust, easy-to-actuate button opens the Revolver’s mechanism allowing the chinbar to flip up. The helmet also uses the world’s quickest, easiest-to-use shield changing system—Bell’s ClickRelease—allowing the option of more than a dozen tints, including the astounding Transitions SOLFX photochromic shield.

Other features include comfy Contour Cut Cheekpads, a removable washable comfort liner, Bell’s Magnefusion strap keeper which replaces the often hard-to-locate strap snap with an elegant magnetic solution that easily engages and secures the strap end.

This item was purchased for my daughter, so she could ride with me. She has enjoyed the helmet. Safety is a major concern when she rides with me and the Hi-viz yellow supports that objective.

I wanted a modular helmet with flip down shades. I ride to work in the daytime and come home at night. I did not want to change out the face shield or wear sunglasses. However, the shades that come with the helmet are too light. I ordered dark shades for a reasonable price through Revzilla. In addition, I installed a Sena communication system, which I think is the best on the market, that's another review. The face shield comes off with ease, why can't they all be like this and the modular part flips up with ease. The modular has a nice locking connections with the rest of the helmet. The only draw back with this helmet is that at high speeds the helmet tends to press slightly against the tip of my nose. No I do not have a big nose. Maybe after the the helmet cushion breaks in a little my nose will not be pressed by the helmet. Speaking of the cushion, they all remove with a few snaps to be washed. The ventilation is great, especially the back. The way it is designed the back vents in the helmet draws the hot air from inside the helmet keeping you cool. I like the high visibility, you can never be to obvious out there. Check out the picture below. I use red reflective tape to match the stripes on my bike. Overall great helmet for the money.

I was waiting for the high viz model. Glad that it came out so soon! Everything works well and it fits easily over both of my sets of glasses. Airflow is great. My scala rider bluetooth mounted well on the main section just behind the faceplate using some outdoor double-sided foam tape. Noise is generally the same or less than my Bell Apex, except that if I turn my head to a specific angle to the side, the noise caused by the faceplate joints is greater, but not extremely bad. Just don't ride with your head turned to one side. I wish the Faceplate was a little farther from my mouth.

Tighter fit than my Mag 8 in medium, I wear prescription eyeglasses and the pressure of the helmet against my temples gave me a headache after 20 minutes so I did some tweeking and used 30 lb. fireline to compress the foam padding pressing against the arms of my glasses by sewing it tight to the plastic backing of the cheek pieces. All is good now fit wise but helmet is loud funny thing is it is quieter with the visor open than closed, probably due to the poor fit of the visor to helmet at the pivot points. But for the price I paid for this high vis helmet I wear ear pugs and all is good, hope this helps others in making their decision.

Let me start by stating that the Bell Revolver is my first modular helmet and I am used to my Shoei X-11 and my Arai XD-3. I have a history wearing Bell off-road helmets (Moto 3, 4, 7).
Out of the box the Revolver comes with the typical drawstring bag that comes with most helmets. It does not include the nice zip-up bag that comes with the Star helmets. Looking over the helmet all vents are easy to operate and the chin-bar opens and closes without too much effort. The chin-bar is secured with a metal latch. The design of the helmet is very nice and looks great.
Attention to detail on this helmet is average. Paint has some orange peel like appearance when looking at the helmet under the right light. Some trim was loose which I reattached with some adhesive. The D-rings are stamped metal which are actually easier to use than I expected. All these things are very minor considering that the helmet MSRP is ~$200 and the closeout prices are much less. Having handled a few modular helmets it feels better in function and more solid than the HJCs to me, the attention to detail is less than a Shoei Multitech with a similar feel, and it weighs less than a Scorpion EXO-900 with a similar feel.
The helmet has LOTS of features: anti-fog and quick release shield, internal sunshade, magna-fusion chinstrap holder. Everything seems well designed but the sunshade is too light to be effective. I can hardly perceive any tint when lowering it. You will need to buy one of the other shade color options or the transitions shield for blocking out the sun.
My first ride in the helmet was in some light off and on rain. Not cold enough to test the fog free shield and the rain was too light to test for any visor leaks. What I can say is the helmet was definitely quieter than the XD-3 (not saying much) and on par with my X-11 if not quieter (I wear earplugs at all times with all helmets). Visibility was good. Overall I was more impressed with the helmet in use than I was looking it over.
For the price it is an exceptional value and I recommend it as such. In function it is not far off from a Shoei Multitech (2 in the family). The attention to detail could be improved but still it is not bad. I would like to see an ECE certification and results of a Sharp impact test. Perhaps this will come with next year’s model if there is one.

As a military life support historian and consultant, I have long been concerned with technology designed and developed to protect aircrew from adverse dynamic forces encountered in the flight environment. Coincidentally, I am also a life-long motorcyclist (long before Tom Cruise raced F-14 Tomcats down the runway on his bike!), so my interest in cranial protection has been a lengthy one. Although aircrew helmets are developed for somewhat different forces than those encountered on a bike, there are more similarities than differences.
One of my favorite MC helmets up to the present has been the Italian Bieffe BF-5 (and B-85, a more recent update with polycarbonate shell rather than fiberglass); not due to its somewhat exotic 'Star Wars' styling, but rather because of its excellent visibility feature (and the fact that it fits my moderate oval head shape perfectly).
Very recently I purchased a Yamaha FZR1000 and decided to also update my personal protective gear accordingly. Recognizing the critical importance of the 'see and be seen' axiom to roadway safety, I was immediately interested in learning that Bell Safety Products was bringing out a high-visibility version of its REVOLVER modular helmet, and pre-ordered one.
The helmet arrived very quickly, thanks to REV-ZILLA's excellent attention to customer satisfaction, and I was able to begin a comparison of it to my long favored Bieffe.
Although I have just started to use the new helmet, my initial findings are so far quite favorable. First of all, the very bright safety lime-green shell color is excellent; it definitely catches the eye of motorists. The modular face component functions well and is not needlessly complicated, enabling it to be flipped up with a single grasp and pinch motion of thumb and forefinger. Furthermore, although I have a slightly oval shaped head, the BELL sizing chart (which recommends a size LARGE for my 60-61 sized cranium) is spot on: the large size fits perfectly, suggesting that the REVOLVER is well suited for those who are not round-heads and have a slight oval shaped head, like myself. The removeable liner is an excellent feature, in my opinion, and the integrated internal sun-screen visor seems to function quite well, locking positively in up or down positions via its shell bottom-side actuator.
The helmet seems to be quite comfortable (although I haven't yet taken any long rides with it), with excellent padding both on top and to the sides, and the chin-strap (a modified D-ring assembly) also appears to work well. There are as of yet no discernibly annoying pressure-points when I put the helmet on and wear it for short periods.
My only real concerns stem from field of vision preferences, something that the favorite old Bieffe enables without peer. The REVOLVER is a huge helmet (in traditional BELL professional style), surrounding the head with a tremendously thick, layered protective coccoon. Accordingly, the head is buried deeply within it and this somewhat limits the fields of vision, both from top to bottom and from side to side (and when I say 'limits', I mean in comparison to a helmet like the Bieffe BF-5). In my experience, unobstructed and broad fields of vision are critically important for rider safety on a motorcycle, so while one should wear a 'whole head' helmet, the ability to clearly view peripherally and vertically should be optimised (not an easy ergonometric goal to accomplish, admittedly) and not compromised in any way.
Due to the helmet's modular structure, it seems a bit heavier than I am used to (say compared to the 1450 gram Bieffe fiberglass BF-5), and it also appears monstrously larger than I am accustomed to in terms of its bulk. Both of these criticisms, however, are admittedly not major detractions and there's no question that from an impact stance, BELL has done its R&D homework quite adequately (as always).
At speed, the helmet cuts through the air without tugging or being deflected upwards or laterally, so the shell aerodynamics configured into it appear well engineered, as well. The primary visor (clear transparency is standard) operates smoothly and without complexity and the air vents designed into it work quite effectively.
In terms of its cost effectiveness, I'd have to commend BELL highly for producing an excellent protective helmet at such a reasonable price. When one compares it to a contemporary EURO modular design like that from Caberg (US$ 650 or so!), there's no question who provides the best protection for the least consumer cost. Further, BELL Safety Products has a solid reputation for safety engineering excellence that goes back over half a century!
It remains to be seen what my long-term findings will be, given the short acquaintance I have had with the new REVOLVER helmet, but the fact that motorcycle protective gear manufacturers are FINALLY paying attention to the need for more high-visibility protective items (helmets and jackets in particular) is highly encouraging, since half the battle motorcyclists face on today's increasingly congested roads is being seen by highly distracted motorists who are still not actively looking for two-wheeled vehicles in their vicinity.
Kudos to BELL and also to REV-ZILLA for together helping to increase that perilously slim safety margin all two-wheelers must have, by offering products like the hi-vis REVOLVER helmet. I have just recently begun purchasing my gear from REV-ZILLA and I am pleased to report my full satisfaction with every aspect of their operation! Truly a professionally run operation.
