Excellent helmet Bought this helmet to use on my R1200RT in warm weather. It is very comfortable and light. Appears to be well made and is finished nicely. The Sena SMH10 pops right in with little effort which was one of the main selling points for me. I have worn Arai helmets for years and for me the fit is similar. The helmet is not quite Arai quality but neither is the price. I do not feel like I am sacrificing quality or safety with this helmet. Recently I have worn a Nolan N43. I would says the build quality is comparable to the Nolan. So far, I am very pleased with this helmet. As usual Revzilla service is awesome. I ordered on a Tuesday and it arrived on Thursday. July 25, 2014
Good helmet for a good price Comfortable helmet, sized correctly according to the chart, has decent air flow. The shield is clear and easy to use and the sun shield works well. The Sena headset mounts nicely and works well. July 14, 2014
Great helmet for the money! this is a great helmet for the money. It has many great features with the Sena bluetooth option. July 14, 2014
Good fitting helmet Helmet fit snugly. The speaker pockets were quiet. Airflow was better than I expected for a full face helmet. I liked the two visors/shades. The main shield was a little difficult to pull down though. July 11, 2014
Very happy with this helmet Got it at a great price at a brick and mortar store. But the helmet is my number one helmet I wear especially now that I have the speaker system installed. I also wear a half-shell for slow cruises around town and back roads, and a full face for the coldest of winter days. Fits my head shape perfect, barely have to cinch the strap down to keep on my head at highway speeds. Overall quality of construction is great. I have lightly dropped it twice, and the little visor thing pops off and goes right back on, but doesn't reseat perfectly. Other than that no issues. I will be looking at replacing the clear clear shield soon, which I alreaday know is a very simple process of snapping off the visor and then pulling the shield off. Great ventilation, the built in sunshield is pretty low quality though, would love to be able to replace it with a high quality one, but I ride with high quality sunglasses anyways so I almost never use it. July 8, 2014
very little lift or sidewind push I am very happy with way this helmet stays put. riding without much wind protection it does not try to choke you ..the fit was a little tight out of the box but broke in to fit in an hour. it is pretty quiet for an open face too.the internal dark shield is a nice feature and both shields have good optics July 7, 2014
I Should have bought a full face helmet. Sena Bluetooth setup (speakers) fall out of pockets inside the helmet. Removable pads covering the speakers have poor fit and do not adhere to inside of helmet. Wind noise prevents using video microphone. My fault alone for the purchase. June 16, 2014
Too many hard parts tough my head Road this helmet for ten days and 4000 mile trip. Bad idea. The helmet was miserable after the first day and got worse as the trip went on . It has great features, somewhat poor execution and the most uncomfortable interior i've every experienced. June 15, 2014

I also like the option of adding the Bluetooth unit down the road. Apr 20, 2014

We have other helmets with the Sena Smh10's on them. Had to purchasing the special Sena boom mic made specially for this helmet. That was an additional $40 per helmet. The Sena smh10 was the main reason for us even looking at the Bell Helmet. The combination of Sena and Bell made sense. Mar 16, 2014

tom E: First reason was the molded design that made the Sena headset part of the helmet rather than a bolt on afterthought.
Felt the drop down sun shield would be important as we ride in shady wooded areas that quickly turn into open sunny stretches.

I love the integrated communications system and this fits me like a glove! No more headaches and no need to adjust the helmet with 5 hour rides! Now husband is constantly needing to "push" on his helmet to relieve pressure. This is his Christmas gift!!! :) Nov 24, 2013
JOHN H: PREFER OPEN FACE - SUN VISOR NEAT - COMPATABLE WITH SENA SMH-10 BELL MAG Nov 19, 2013
Nathan H: I'm looking for an open face helmet that has a peak/visor for additional glare avoidance when riding into sunlight. The only other helmet like this I found was an Arai and did not want to spend 3x as much for it. I'm also interested in using the Sena intercom with this helmet although that is not the main reason for the purchase. Nov 15, 2013
Evelyn H: I chose this for the style and features, and purchased from Revzilla because I've done so from this merchant satisfactorily in the past. The price was comparable to other sellers, so the companies reputation made the difference. Nov 3, 2013
Randy P: Looking for an open face Helmet, I liked some of the reviews, and the way it looks, I also like the ability to take off the visor, and face shield. Oct 22, 2013

Mostly, however, the integration with the Sena headset put this item over the top as far as features. Sep 19, 2013

A S asked: Can you use this helmet with the shield up on highway speed? Jul 24, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Bryan D: Depends if you bike has a windshield or not, and the dynamics of that. On my Tiger with the stock windshield the buffeting at anything over 50 would push down on the shield and close it. Once I changed from the stock, one this went away.

On my 250 dual sport I can ride at 55-60 with it up, but it's much more comfortable putting it down. Around town it's fine with it up, and is one of the reasons I bought it, give a ton of airflow which is nice here in Florida.

Jim W: I have been using the helmet now for two years. I ride an 1800 goldwing and use it with the shield up on the highway. I will drop the shield in the rain or cold or you can use just the sun shield. They work great. Jul 24, 2014

Craig M: Sorry but I can't really answer the shield up question, rarely ride that way. The only time it is up is when I am sipping a drink from my handlebar mounted cup holder. Otherwise, helmet very good. Jul 25, 2014

Cedric H: If you have a windshield tall enough to deflect the wind, it works pretty well. Otherwise, with the shield up, it can catch wind especially gusts and crosswind. Jul 25, 2014

Mike J asked: Will the upcoming SENA 20S fit in the integrated cut out? Feb 7, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Bruce E: Hi Mike, I looked at the configuration of the 20S and to be honest it doesn't look like it would fit 100%. Th Bell Mag 9 helmet was made to fit the Sena SHM10 which is what I have. Even at that when ordering you have to specify that you want the SMH10 designed for the Bell Mag9 as the first one I got didn't fit and I had to exchange it. Feb 7, 2014

Brad G: You will have to contact bell to be 100% sure.However.The sena smh10's I used to have would not.If you read the fine print.[I Didn't] You will at the very least need the bell sena adapters. We still use this helmet. But use the Harley boom audio headsets.I didn't want to send the helmets back.So I ground the side piece out a bit for the Harley headset.

With the adapters they might.Or you could just purchase the Bell Sena headsets which is what this helmet is built for.

Shel S: Call Sena for that answer. However, I have switched to a Gmax helmet. Much quieter, better visor, adjustable sun shade, plus it has a strobe on the back. The external Sena mount works very nicely. Feb 7, 2014

Mike J: I contacted SENA and it will not fit this helmet's cut out. You can still use it with the supplied mount, just would be like any other helmet at that point. Feb 10, 2014

Bruce C asked: I have 2 Interphone F5s. How would they fit with this product?

I now have an Arai Quantum 2, and I am looking for a 3/4 helmet to use because I just purchased a bike with a windshield and my full coverage is too hot to use. Also, When I put the Interphone inside, my Arai became uncomfortable. I tried this helmet on and it seemed pretty comfortable, but I am leery of the impact of adding the intercom bulk.
Jul 6, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
David H: I can't help with your question about the fit of the intercom since I use my Bell Mag 9 Sena without any inserts, at least so far. I find it a reasonably comfortable helmet, but not as comfortable as my Shoei Multi-tec. But having the open face design with the easily pull down face shield and separate sun visor really makes this an extremely versatile helmet. And it is far less expensive than any of the brands I normally consider such as Shoei or Arai. Overall I am pleased with this purchase, but not blown away. Jul 6, 2014

david g: I don't know if that system will fit this helmet but
if you use the genuine bell sena kit you won't know its there it is the best system
i have tried 2 nolans and 1 shark system and this is the best integrated system I have used
would not go back to any other system now

A shopper asked: Is this helmet snell rated? Brandy Dec 23, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Charles C: The Bell Mag-9 Sena Helmet came with a DOT sticker on it. I have searched the interior of the helmet for additional information but there is nothing to indicate that it is Snell rated, only DOT. The Bell website also lists this helmet as DOT Certified with no mention of Snell rating. Dec 23, 2013

A shopper asked: I have a new 2014 Harley with their hard wired comm set. How difficult is it to attach to this Bell Mag 9 ? I have tried the Bell Mag 9 and it is comfortable, but am concerned if I am a non Sena user. Thanks. Jan 29, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Dave G: Don't listen to those who say not to buy this helmet unless you are using the Sena bluetooth prods. I had absolutely no problems attaching the Harley Premium headset to this helmet. In fact, the Sena capability made the installation just a bit easier- there is a pull out section of foam right under the left cheek pad that makes it eas to clamp the Harley headset to the helmet. The cheek pads have speaker pockets and the wires tuck neatly under the rubber moulding that runs around the outer perimiter. Easy 10 minutes or less to set the whole thing up. So go ahead and get this helmet it works with the HD headset just fine. Apr 19, 2014

A shopper asked: I just bought a pair of Sena SMH10D-11, will these work with this helmet or does it have to be the "bell version"? Jan 13, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Janie H: The Sena units will work on all 3/4 and full helmets with the standard bracket that is included in the package. They make a separate bracket for the Bell Mag 9 Sena helmet. I like it much better. The unit, instead of hanging on the outside the helmet is now on a 1/4" indented spot in the side of the helmet and is much more secure. Also the ear speakers are in custom made secure pockets in the liner of the helmet instead of being Velcro attached inside a regular helmet. This is also more comfortable and they never come loose when you remove the helmet. I hope this answers your question.

The Mag-9 is Bell's premiere open faced helmet debuted in 2012.
The beauty of what Bell has done here in 2013 is they've
completely iterated on this helmet.  They made a few key updates, but the
big functionality and why we're calling it the Mag-9 Sena is that it now
has an OEM fitment, you can see right where my finger is, there's an OEM
fitment panel that allows you to integrate seamlessly with the SMH-10 Sena.

So, what Bell did was they went out to the marketplace, they did their
homework, they looked at Carta, they looked at Fit Sena, they looked at the
other Blue Tooth units that were A2DP, that were Blue Tooth 3.0, that were
functional, and usable, and they said, "Who is the best that we can
integrate with, that our Mag-9 open faced customer can really add that Blue
Tooth communicator, but seamlessly do it in a helmet in a very usable way?"
They ultimately selected Sena.

So, remember the Mag-9 is going to be the intermediate oval head shape.
It's a polycarbonate shell, multiple sizes; I think it's an extra small
through 2XL.  There's a lot going on here we're going to walk through some
of the nuances a little bit later in the video.  Let's start out with the
key changes, now remember as we go through this I would love to hear your
gut reaction on our YouTube channel, click right here, subscribe to us,
stay up to date with all of our latest gear reviews.

So, let's walk into the key changes.  The first major change, and again I'm
going to finish here with the install of our Sena unit.  First key change
is they change the lever on the drop down sun visor.  It's now a finger and
a thumb operation, very easy to use.  Remember drop down sun visor anti-
scratch, anti-fog, gives you the ability to not have to wear sunglasses if
you don't want to. Nice touch we've seen it a lot in different progressive
helmet manufacturers, and it was on the original version.  It's now much
easier to use.

Also, staying in that same vein of comfort and flexibility you know they
know, Bell knew that a lot of customers are wearing the open faced helmet
with sunglasses, and sometimes when you're cheek pads are a little bit more
dense near the top it becomes different depending on the type of sunglasses
you're wearing. So what Bell did is they took the top area of this cheek
pad and they tapered it and they made it a little bit less dense foam.  So,
whether you're wearing eyeglasses, or you're wearing sunglasses you're now
going to have an easier time of getting them into the Bell Mag 9 Sena and having
them work comfortably.

The other thing they did on the new Mag-9 is that they've given you an
increased range of motion on your external face shield.  So, this drops
down all the way. The previous Mag-9 used to come up to about there, and
depending on how you ride, and how it sits on your head sometimes you might
get it in the top end of your vision.  So, what Bell's done is they've
given you extra range of motion now to fully clear it from your field of
view, again a really nice touch.

Now moving past that, and remember the Bell Mag 9 comes with a peak, it's
fully removable, there are side pods, you can wear it without the peak, you
can wear it without the shield itself, it's completely configurable.

Let's get into the Sena functionality, and really I'll show you what the
unit looks like, and some of you out there I have a Sena myself, I wear a
Sena, it's very rugged.  In my opinion it's one of the most usable Blue
Tooth communicators on the market.  Really that's why I love that they've
chosen to work with Sena because it's extremely usable.  Remember, ten days
of standby, twelve hours of talk time, A2D which means you can forward and
reverse, play, pause, talk to Siri on an iPhone, multiple device
connectivity over Blue Tooth, so that means GPS, as well as iPhone, up to
four riders 900 meters.  Again, watch our full detailed breakdown on the
Sena.

The Sena is a rock solid unit. But looking at the Sena and how it would
integrate with the Bell is that now what Bell has done is they've not only
changed the outer shell, but they've also changed the EPS to seamlessly
integrate.  What I'm going to do is show you how easy that is, and how
quickly it works.

So, what you have is this panel on the side, and remember five different
colors in the Mag-9, you also have a couple graphics available as well, and
it's right here on the left side underneath the lever, and you want it on
the left that's typically where Blue Tooth communicators go, because you
can keep your hand on the throttle.

So, as I use my thumbnail, that I've actually, that I bite my fingernails,
so let's see if I can get this off.  There we go.  I pull this door away,
and now I'm exposing a compartment that's perfectly suited for the Sena
unit, and you can even see the way it sits in there is slightly recessed.
The Sena's actually one of the bigger units, and for a lot of touring guys
they're okay with it, but if it sits fully off the Mag 9 Sena helmet you might get a
little bit of noise because it is a bigger unit, even though it is
aerodynamic, water resistant, you know it covers all of those bases.  By
slightly recessing it you're having a better chance to not create anything
external kind of extreme hanging of the helmet.  So again, you get a more
streamline air flow.

But what you have is you have the unit that would sit in there and recess
in but still leave enough room for the buttons, the connection port, you
know the jog dial here that again is one of the big selling features you
can also press, but behind that you're going to see that we have EPS cut
out. And what Bell's actually done, I'm going to go get my doughnut here,
is they've changed the EPS.  So, as I flip over from the top I'm going to
start to remove things, and again it's a good time to talk about the liner.
So, as I remove the liner out, remember anti-microbial microfiber, it's
wicking, the pockets around the ear are plenty cut out to handle the
seating unit, which has stereo speakers.

You can pull this bad boy out; you can pull out the entire liner.  It
actually has channels in it for the EPS.  I might as well just remove the
entire liner here, and remember intermediate oval head shape, and if you're
concerned about fit, remember we ship for free, exchange for free, no
restock fee if you need to send it back to us.  So, don't fret if you're
really curious about the sizing. But I'm going to remove my neck roll.
Here's my comfort liner, notice the cutouts they give you good air flow
through the EPS channel.

If you didn't notice there are two vents on top of the Mag-9, but as we get
into the guts here, I'm going to rotate this way, and you're going to see
around here on the side that where Sena would go we have this piece.  Can
you see that piece, if you can come in here really tight?  And what I can
do is I can put my finger in here and just quickly pop this piece right
out, and it has a pull tab at the top.  You can pull it from the top or the
bottom, but this is my pocket that's going to allow me to pull it out so I
can use the OEM fitment for the Sena SMH-10 Bell version.

So, once I pull the EPS piece out I can now and install my Sena, and again
I've removed the entire guts of the Mag 9 helmet, but really all you need to do
is remove that left side cheek pad.  What I want to do is pull everything
out and get it out of the way, but for you guys at home installing this you
don't have to go that far.

Now if I look at it, remember I have my cutout on the side, I know have my
cut out on the inside, OEM fitment, and what I'm going to do here is I'm
going to take my, really the female bracket here that has the connector,
that has the boom mic, that sits in this channel, and there's really only
one place it can go, and as I turn it this way I'm going to slide it up
from the outside, and you need to make sure to get it all the way in that
way you have room to install the Sena, and you can see it just flush mounts
right in there.  It completely closes that off, it completes the seal, and
now I have my connectors. And there's also that little screw hole you can
see it right to the left of the connection port, and you want to leave it
permanently installed, you want to make sure it's on their securely it
comes with a single screw and an Allen you just pop that bad boy right in.

Now what I can do is I can reach across, take my actual Sena unit, this is
the actual unit that you charge, this is what has all of the guts and
technology in it, slide it from the bottom down to the top it pops right
in, and it's that simple.  Recess mounted, completely installed inside, and
you'll notice I have my two speakers.  They're stereo speakers, they're
thick enough, and both sides of the helmet have plenty of room to where you
just snake these up, put the cheek pads back in, and you sit them in the
little pockets of the ears, and they kind of, they don't Velcro on, but
they have teeth to them so they kind of hold themselves in place.

Again, from front on you can see the low profile of the unit on the Bell Mag 9. And if I
turned to the side, you can also see again Bell being very thorough as they
typically are, you can see that I have my boom mic sits in a nice recessed
cut away from this EPS liner.  So, they've really thought through the
complete recipe for getting an OEM fitment on a Blue Tooth unit within
their helmet without having anything bulky, and remember there's voice
activation.  It's an adjustable boom, you put it where it needs to be. And
it's also going to be noise cancelling, so whether you're riding at speed
with it up, or with the face shield up or down you're going to have the
ability to have you're fully functional until.

Now, while I do have it in there I might as well leave it in.  I'm going to
let those speakers free float, because honestly placing them is the least
exciting part of the process, and it takes two seconds.  You can see the
interior liner, cut-aways, four vented channels, we have four exhausts in
the helmet, two intakes across the top you can see them with nice big pulls
so you can find them with a glove.

I mentioned the peak is removable, it's reconfigurable, it does have side
pods that go on there, remember it's a polycarb shell, multiple EPS sizes
that go up with the different sizes of the actual helmet itself, so
starting with extra small and going all the way up. And it's going to be
that intermediate oval head shape, which I did touch on, and remember that
means it should fit most people, but if you're curious you can always give
our gear geeks a shout out and talk through the sizing, and we're not going
to hurt you if you need to send it back.

You know other key things of note with the Mag-9, we saw it in 2012 be a
nice step forward from Bell. Now moving into 2013 you're getting the added
benefit of the seamless OEM interface with the Sena SMH-10, and remember
you can buy the Bell version, which is kind of comes with the housing
that's pre-integrated, or you can always buy that $40.00 piece if you
already own a Sena, and just buy that housing that sits on the back of it
and allows you to flush mount it right on.
