Bell Custom 500 Speed Soul Helmet

Throwbacks and retro lids are nice, but nothing beats an original. Back in 1954 Bell founder Roy Richter formed his first helmet out of fiberglass and named it the “500.” That moment was ground zero for the modern motorsport helmet and it gave rise to an entire industry. Bell’s new Custom 500 pays homage to Richter’s original design and adds modern protective technology to bring the design up-to-date while still keeping the original’s aesthetic. By combining a custom fiberglass layup with a specially designed EPS foam layer, Bell engineers were able to craft a helmet that is at once light weight, narrow in profile, and DOT-compliant. Adding custom paint-inspired graphics, chrome trim work (on some graphics) and a quilted liner, the new Custom 500 custom looks as good as it performs.

This helmet is a good looking retro helmet.
That being said it is still a mushroom top.
Looks great on the shelf not so much on my head.
Strap is quite long.

The helmet fits great and is a perfect match for my restored 1962 R50S! I was a little disappointed Revzilla didn't stock the one-piece clear face shield when I ordered the helmet, but I was able to source that elsewhere. All in all it's a great helmet at a great price!

I l really like this windshield. Just what i neeeded to help protect my eyes from watering up while driving, i wear contact lenses.
But i do think that BELL should include it with the helmet when you purchase the helmet.

Beautiful Helmet! Metal Flake is beyond belief. Added a white visor with a "pilot" shorty face-shield. Currently own 25 helmets and rotate them on a daily basis. This helmet slides into the rotation about ever three days, Liner is very comfortable and like the fact that it is red. Riding a motorcycle that kicks out 132db of thunder, the liner reduces normal noise levels by more than 1/2. I have a few Bell Custom 500 helmets (Stunt and Rally) and I feel the same way about them as far as fit and function go, but love the paint on this helmet with the chrome trim on the edges.

I bought this as a 2nd helmet to cruise around town and it's cool - at least that's what the people say when I pull up next to them at the stoplight. It's a great helmet, at a great price - the interior stitching is nicely done. The one thing about an open face helmet, you'll get more wind noise - hence the reason I got it for around town. I did get a bubble screen to get that retro look and the vision is very wide and airflow is great. Highly recommend this helmet and other Bell Custom 500's especially if you have a classic cafe racer style bike.
