Ballistic Performance 4 Cell EVO2 Battery

The 4 Cell EVO2 is designed for use in multi-cylinder applications of less than 550cc and racing applications of up to 600cc where weight is the primary consideration. The 4 Cell EVO2 is also perfect for 250cc single MX bikes. A 600cc race bike uses a battery that weighs almost 8 pounds. The Ballistic Performance Components Battery 4 Cell EVO2 weighs less than a pound! That’s a 7 pound saving for less than $100! You would have to spend thousands on Titanium, Carbon Fiber and Magnesium to get that kind of weight savings. The 4 Cell model can easily start a 600cc sport bike, but we recommend them only for racing applications. If you ride your 600cc sport bike on the street, we recommend the 8 Cell model

A battery for dedicated purposes, unreliable, expensive, necessary evil? You decide! This is my second Ballistic. The first one, used as a backup, started to perform badly just after two years of seeing very little action. These batteries are small, light, pack a punch and are great as a portable spare. The drawbacks are price, poor performance at low temperatures, and in my opinion more unpredictable and unreliable than a standard batt. Why I insist on these? Well I like the idea, they are easy to carry on a plane, shed weight off the bike, in concept there are the path to the future. Would I recommend them? Well, yes and no. It all depends what you want to achieve. I did not get much after sales support when my battery started to play games. I did not get an invoice from Revzilla either that supports my warranty. A word of warning: Be very meticulous in ordering the right post location for your battery as these come with Left or Right ground. If you order the wrong one you have two issues: 1. the fitting will be difficult because the posts have a L shaped plastic shield and going over those with the wires will surely break them (happened to me). Also, wrong post location may lead to connecting the battery the wrong way and frying all circuits! Yes, I did that too but since I had a ground cutoff switch I realized my mistake seconds from disaster. October 20, 2014
no more corrosion This battery was easy to install, just use the foam that comes in the box to fill in the additional space that will be in your battery tray. You may have a little bit of trouble making your battery leads reach the terminals, but with a bit of fancy footwork and clever thinking you should be good to go with the stock set up. I do recommend purchasing the ballistic battery quick charger set up as well, it comes in handy if your bike sits for too long. That being said, I have let mine sit for two months and it started up with no issues. September 29, 2014
Compact and Powerful I ordered this battery because I needed the smallest battery possible because I bobbed the tail of the bike and real estate is at a minimum. I assumed I was going to run into cranking issues as the bike is a 1000cc Vtwin sportbike. (2002 Aprilia RSV Mille) However up until this point I have had ZERO issues with the battery, the bike fires right up every time. Some reviews say that the battery doesn't do well in cold conditions but I live in south Louisiana so that doesn't happen too often and if it does I drive something with a heater. September 29, 2014
Works great in warmer weather but watch out for the cold Bought this since I wanted to try a smaller battery and my Yuasa was due for a replacement. I also got tired of hooking up my tender to it all the time and wanted to see what all the rave about with lithium batteries. Couldn't believe how small and light it was. It seems to work well in warmer temps and engine cranks up on the first try. However, cold weather starts really suck and I'm worried I might damage my sprague clutch when it cranks and winds down. I have to hit the starter a few times and wait in between each attempt to wait for the battery to "warm up". Once the battery is ready, it works as it should. I only recommend this battery for folks who live in warmer climate and I'll probably get a regular battery next time around. I also noticed (as they advertise) that no tender needs to be hooked up to it and I can let the bike sit for a long period of time to have the bike start up on the first try. April 28, 2014
Expensive but worth it...so far I bought the Ballistic 8-Cell EVO2 battery because I was sick of the traditional/ancient lead acid batteries. I don't race so the weight savings doesn't really appeal to me too much but it really is significantly lighter. The smaller size is nice but it actually make's it a little more awkward with battery straps and cables being far too loose now. On the other hand, the small size made it possible for me to twist my connection points to get to the terminals. Which brings me to my next point, it would be nice if Ballistic made the batteries with reversed posts for those bikes that don't have the space to flip the battery in a different orientation to make it fit. Those are small potatoes though because the power output on this battery is noticeably better than my past lead acid batteries. I've never had my bike start up faster, and has plenty of juice for my 750cc Ducati Monster. I honestly haven't had it installed for very long or started up in really cold conditions so I might have to report back in a year or so with more durability testing, but based on first impressions, this is definitely a huge improvement from the old days. Lastly, the price is quite steep and I don't really know if it's worth it yet, but I can tell you it will probably be very difficult for me to switch back to a lead acid once this one eventually dies. Overall, I am very pleased with the battery so far and would recommend it to anyone that is just fed up with old battery technology. April 23, 2014
not the ideal motorcycle battery Great concept, tech specs look good, but battery start-up performance thus far during the winter months is not good. My BMW F800GS is almost impossible to start in colder temps. Ballistic Performance has a video posted showing start-up procedure in colder weather, and my experience is no where near as good as what's shown in the video. Two to four minutes trying to start-up, with the bike electrical system and my GPS and other electronics gear continuously resetting, is not good. However, I have decided to keep the battery and see how it does in spring and summer (reinstalled old lead battery for the remainder of the winter). There is a tremendous weight savings with the Ballistic Performance battery, and that high on the bike the weight is definitely noticeable. Hopefully the battery will function in a more acceptable manner in 60+ degree temps. March 13, 2014
Do not buy! Ballistic Performance Components recommended a 12 cell EVO2 battery for my 2010 BMW R1200 GS Adventure. This battery would not reliably turn my engine over especially when the temperature was lower than 50 F. The dealer arranged a replacement for me to try again. This one too was too weak to crank over my 1200 cc boxer engine. After speaking with Ballistic, the owner himself replaced my 12 cell battery with the 16 cell battery. This worked ok but still had some problems when the temperature dropped below 35 F. On a recent long distance trip, the 16 cell battery suddenly failed and would not even turn over my engine. After returning the battery to Ballistic Performance Components, I was told that the battery was full of water and most likely had been submersed in water. The water caused the battery to short out. Now it is useless after 10 months and would not be covered under warranty. Here is the problem... My 16 cell battery was never submersed in water! In fact my bike was not even washed in this time period. I ride every day rain or shine. The owner could not tell me why the water was in the battery other than it MUST have been submersed in water. I believe that there was a flaw in the plastic housing such as a crack or poor weld that allowed wheel spray into the battery. How can Ballistic Performance Components sell a product that is advertised as impact and water resistant and that can be mounted in any position for any power sport? Evidently, this battery is not ready for prime time! Do not purchase! February 18, 2014
Good but not that great. Got a 12L for Christmas from the wife. Was 11.2V out of the box. Put it on my battery tender for a couple of days brought it to 13.8V. Sunday a week ago My wife and I were left stranded 45 miles outside San Antonio, TX with No Electrical power. After paying through the nose to the Kaw hauled Home I found that this $179.00 marvel was dead reading only 7.3V. Placed the battery from my Buell in the Kaw and it started. Checked the stator and regulator both static and running and both checked out. Now after sitting a week it reads 11.7V with out haveing seen a charger. If you want to be stranded this is the battery for you!!! Go with an AGM Product. January 27, 2014

Christian N: I already have other Ballistic batteries, they work well. Most of all, the customer service at Ballistic is excellent. I had a problem with a poor battery / bike match and they fixed me up. I'm back buying more batteries, we both win. Apr 18, 2014
